long hair on boys: classic or dud

when I had hair, it was untameable, and if let grow long would turn into a whitefro. foolishly I used often let it do just that.

so for this boy, long hair = dud.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 13 December 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

do you have it like abel xavier now?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 13 December 2002 16:42 (twenty-three years ago)

How long is 'long'.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 13 December 2002 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

classic, classic, classic... this thread is like the sideburns one for perving potential in me...

best = somewhere between ears and shoulders. bowlie, mop-top, pageboy, garagerock hair, yum. jawline hair w/fringe combination being most devastating. attractiveness goes down with ponytailability potential as hair creeps past the shoulders, but still can be quite lovely on the right person.

beware the white boy fro, though. this is clearly evil, but can be avoided by growing only the top, and keeping the back and sides fairly clean-cut, see jesus and mary chain circa 1985 for good curly hair management.

lovely, lovely long hair on boys.

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

sigh, Kate will never perv after me.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 13 December 2002 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I just perv after myself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 December 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i've got great sideburns, but i'll never go long - my head is designed for bouffancy and to let it grow would result in a truly horrendous mullet that no amount of careful coiffering would amend

i am feeling very wordy today

stevem (blueski), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my ex used to suffer from bouffancy if he washed, dried and combed his hair properly. so he stopped washing it more than once a week, and never actually brushed it, so it hung in lank, dirty dronerock longness around his face... uuuuhhhhh...

oh god, i'm perving. talk about long hair some more, please! and add some sideburns to the discussion!

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

long hair is actually not right.

[long=beyond shoulders].

RJG (RJG), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

i tried to pursuade the boyfriend in the post above to grow sideburns, to complete the maximum-kate-attraction look, and he got very sniffy. raised the flaps of his hair to reveal these thin, whispy little strips of hair and complained that he had been growing his burns for YEARS and this was all that every resulted. aaaawwwwww...

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I like short, but that kinda floppy long bangs almost hitting the chin is cute.

Genevieve, Friday, 13 December 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Currently rather fancy a bloke with extremely long hair but this may just be because it makes him look like such a lovely girl... ahem!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmm classic. Not to say I only like men with long hair, but there's something about a floppy fringe. Actually (incurs wrath of Kate)on some men the looser-curled end of white boy 'fro can be nice to push your fingers through. And proper afros look cute too. And I like peering from behind straight fringes. Or super-short hair with strokability factor. One boy had beautiful hair, about a foot and a half of glossy black waves, gave him a rather, ahem, primal quality. So I'm a hair slut. I appreciate men's hair. Good hair can maketh, if not man, then at least temporary crush.

I found out one of my male friends uses straighteners to achieve his carefully messy garage rock mop. He looked so ashamed when I found out I couldn't even bring myself to tease him.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

when I started shaving my hair, I found random girls I worked with used to stroke my head.

which was nice.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

You have all just convinced me not to cut my hair. My hair is about shoulder length now and very curly and thick (kind of recent Ian Brown-ish). It looks great but it's a bit annoying to have so much.

Everyone knows that the way to avoid the fro is to use mildly heavy product (I like Material) and to only wash once a week.

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

no shame in using straighteners. the great lost love of my life (c) used straighteners and a perm to tame his white boy fro into a garagerock pageboy. i saw photos of him in college looking like william reid and oh how i giggled...

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Long hair in three stages: classic. Other kinds of long hair: dud.

die9o (dhadis), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic on our Ned. Also classic on Karl Lagerfeld (possibly the only man living who can pull off a ponytail). Undecided on other male specimens.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

No, the guy mentioned above (long black waves) could definately pull of a pony tail. Not something I ever thought I'd say, but there you go.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 December 2002 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

My famous ex-girlfriend tried to use straightener on my hair but it didn't work at all.

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

My curls can't be tamed!

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I only found it funny because the friend in question wants to present an 'I'm too cool to care' image, but secretly does, massively. It was so him to use straigheners and then lie about it. It was quite endearing.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 13 December 2002 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

That's cute... but all people who are "too cool to care" actually care immensely.

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Super super super super super super super super super super super super super super DUD.

, Friday, 13 December 2002 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i am too cool to care.

i care immensely

gareth (gareth), Friday, 13 December 2002 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic on our Ned.

*blush* Aw, thanks. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 13 December 2002 18:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah... I'm not too cool to care, I just care immensely.

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Dud on me, I turn into Moe Berg's double. Long blond streaky hair thats perfectly straight. Had it way past my shoulders in high school till Hanson hit it big. Then got a brush cut as soon as possible.`

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 13 December 2002 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

DUD

g (graysonlane), Friday, 13 December 2002 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

especially if you need straighteners, in which case you are wasting far too much time on your hair.

g (graysonlane), Friday, 13 December 2002 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

full disclosure: i did it in highschool

g (graysonlane), Friday, 13 December 2002 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

in my elementary school there was a kid named Jeff Lundy who got a perm.... he just showed up on the bus one day and his hair was totally curly!! we were like "wha...?"

(hello to Jeff Lundy's current/future wife btw if you've googled this.... mwahahahaha)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 13 December 2002 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

i have never encountered a boy with long and/or dirty and/or "i don't give a fuck" hair that did not spend HOURS trying to get it to look that way. this is what is so endearing about them! i don't think i've ever dated a boy who spent less time on his hair than me. i find it strangely appealing.

ok, i lie, i have, but it didn't last very long.

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate's description of dirty-haired boys makes my heart flutter.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 December 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

sarah, some day our bands should tour together, and we can be connaisseurs of dirty haired boy-groupies...

for some reason, tony robinson has long, dirty hair in this old, old episode of time team. i'm really disturbed...

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Now now that's not always true.

This picture isn't great (you can't really tell how long it is in the back) but it's from a couple months ago. And for the record, I spend about 5 seconds on it every morning (except when I wash it once a week and then I probably spend, eh, a couple minutes putting in product and combing cuz it gets in my eyes when it's wet). Notice how you can tell I slept on the right side cuz it's more matted down over there.

http://www.ghostly.com/1.0/culture/events/kabuki/kabukishaw.jpg

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

fortuantely now they have some her gel type products that let you get that "dirty/i don't care" look in mere seconds. guys who spend a lot of time on their hair may be endearing, but i hope for some chix at least those are the guys who they wouldn't end up dating for long.

g (graysonlane), Friday, 13 December 2002 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

well, they've actually made the products for along time, it's just that now they have hip brand names like bumble & bumble or fudge or whatnot instead of billantine or v05 hair dressing.

g (graysonlane), Friday, 13 December 2002 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

that look has always been a classic on this fella

http://www.saltspringmusic.com/artists/hooper/hooper.jpg

Kim (Kim), Friday, 13 December 2002 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, I'm drunk, so this is going to come out wrong, but...

aaron, i like yer curls. they are wavy, rather than frizzy. OK, slightly disturbed by the vague resemblence to jim morrison in that photo. but this is GOOD handlage of curly hair without resorting to the white boy fro.

see? i'm NOT biased against the curly haired boys, really. i mean, if i ran into you in a club, i'd be hard pressed not to get in there and give it a good finger tousle... oh GOD, i'm perving, stop me!!!

g, i can tell the difference between real dirt and fake dirt, thank you. it's all in the smell when you get up close. fake dirty just SMELLS wrong, it smells clinical and vaguely floral. real dirty smells musky and male and pheremonal, and yummmmmm...

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.quicksilvershapeshifter.com/jonnymmm.jpg

Melissa W (Melissa W), Friday, 13 December 2002 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll take the fake dirt myself. Bathing isn't overrated.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 13 December 2002 21:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate's making me blush.

Yeah, my hair was especially curly that day. For whatever reason. I guess I don't bother doing too much to it cuz it just does whatever it wants to.

I'm way too skinny to look like Morrison, but it's funny, the guy at Subway told me I looked like him a couple weeks ago.

Meh. I deserve a VERY HIGH in narcism from the personality test. I'm gonna go post pictures of myself in that other thread...

Aaron W, Friday, 13 December 2002 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

hate it.

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 13 December 2002 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

aaron's hair = the new JULIAN CASACBLANCAS ASS!!!

fake dirt smells WAY better. sorry, forgot what country i was in, WELL better.

kate, Friday, 13 December 2002 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

jesus Kate, you are drunk.

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 14 December 2002 01:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you want to be put on the waiting list Sarah?

Graham (graham), Saturday, 14 December 2002 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurrah! I don't have long hair!

(it's a couple of weeks longer now)

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 16 December 2002 03:00 (twenty-three years ago)

White boy fros rule! Especially in an MC5-armed-but-clueless kinda way.

Dave Fischer, Monday, 16 December 2002 03:06 (twenty-three years ago)

That's not really me BTW. I'm blonde and they don't let me fly planes.

Tom Millar (Millar), Monday, 16 December 2002 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

That's a good picture of you Nick.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 16 December 2002 03:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Never go out with a man with better hair than you or spends more time on his appearance than you!

nine months pass...
revive

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Still classic, of course.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to DEMAND long hair on my boys. Then my boy manic panic'd his hair one too many times and had to cut it all off, and he was even cuter without it. Go figure!

(he also had the white-boy fro, or the semitic fro to be precise)

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I like boys with curly hair who let it go a bit. not longer than collar length though.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Still dud, of course. The Raggettmane notwithstanding.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

My wife thinks I should have mine "at the length Johnny Depp's hair is at the moment", whatever that means.

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

When I lived in DC's Mount Pleasant neighborhood years ago all the young Salvadorean guys had mullets. Then suddenly today I saw one mulleted Salvadorean type on the bus. WTF--they're still workin' that look?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

My ex roommate and I once forcibly pinned down a boy and shaved his head, that is how much I abhor long hair on boys. How did I miss this thread previously? It's my pet peeve. I mean I don't qualify that shaggy indie boy eyebrow length thing going on as "long hair" so I guess I'm not entirely a hair nazi but GOD get a goddamn haircut.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

You're lucky we didn't do it to you, you met Stephanie.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

That's true. Twice! I shall count my lucky stars.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

shaggy indie boys = CLASSIC x 1000000000000000

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Long hair =Classic. If he's got long hair, I miss my own less

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone agrees I look better with ultra-short hair, yet I pulled far more easily with ridiculous bouffant curls. Why should this be?

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Long hair makes us want to stroke it. See? Simple...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

shaggy indie boys are awful like cockroaches u can't get away from there here, they keep multiplying

Extreme Dud, except for those people who wore wigs like Issac Newton. And Ned. I like long hair on GURLS. I don't want men to resemble women from behind. I always feel a compulsive desire to grab boys w/ long hair and chop it off. There's a reason we left the 70s behind people, please. Manly long hair is never really manly and makes you look like a grungy dandy. It should be a punishable crime and seems to get you in trouble anyway. See: Samson

Even more dud if done for "artistic" reasons

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh.

Meant the hair, dammit, the hair! What were you thinking, missus?;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Another exception: Sikh boys with the ball-turbans

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It depends on the guy. It looks fantastic on a select few, and the rest look like doofy grubby hippies.

Nicolars (Nicole), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I always feel a compulsive desire to grab boys w/ long hair and chop it off.

I always wanted to do that to the mulleted Salvadorean guys. And today's guy had really short hair over most of his head, it wasn't an 80s mullet that was so bouffant you had to know where to look for the extralong to tell it was a mullet. I still can't believe anyone still goes for that look (or ever did in the first place).

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, now we know what feature on guys to talk about to get the girls to perve up.

I'm trying to figure out how to describe my hair type, but first I need someone to tell me what breed of dog Rocco had on Rocco's Modern Life. thanks.

Dan I., Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ROCKO. I knew that. sorry.

Dan I., Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

A corgi, that's what it is; I've got hair like a corgi.

Dan I., Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

k-fucking-rowr

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Dud this year. Ask me again next year.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

My last hot, illict, incredibly sex boy had hair like the equally hott boy on the left, except blond.

Just thinking about that hair and playing with it makes me dissolve into a puddle. Even if he did break my heart. (he also cut it off recently to get a job. boo.)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Long hair = Classic. My Glenn:

Elliot (Elliot), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking as one with the crush history I've had (which includes, btw, hair gods Michael Hutchence and John Taylor), I will have to say that long hair, if not fashioned into some sort of stereotypical hair metaldroid type style, and if it doesn't look unkempt or trailer trash-y, is undeniably, incomparably CLASSIC. Shoulder length is best, particularly when paired with a slightly feminine face (see also: Michael Hutchence).

*sighs*

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 05:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Never long enough to put into a significant ponytail. And the ironic mullet must die.

Yes, the mullet must die.

Sarah Pedal (call mr. lee), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't know that anyone did.

I am so very sorry, Sarah. That is horrid.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Hair (on both sexes) much longer than yr collar is dud unless the hair is intrinsically very beautiful or the wearer is AMAZINGLY HOT. Too many ugly goth boys and girls try to pull off one-length straight hair and it never bloody works. I spent far too long in denial about looking terrible because I liked my hair swishing about my back. CUT IT OFF.

I don't remember that, alba. your hair isn't LONG but it is long, yes.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

All the men I've known who had long hair and subsequently cut it, looked much better with short hair. But I have no objection to it in principle.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, there are some men that look good with long hair. The problem is 92% of men don't.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

92% of men don't look good with haircuts, shaved heads, or hair gel either.

three years pass...

A much more difficult and contentious question, imo.

kenan, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

when a guy has had long hair the whole time youve known him and then cuts it short, its really hard to look at him.

sunny successor, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

i mean even if it looks good. its like when some people go from glasses to contacts or moustache to none you can still see the ghost of it.

sunny successor, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

I had properly long hair for a couple of years. It was pretty greasy and horrible, but I was very protective of it for some reason. As soon as I cut it I realised what a pain it was and how much I'd actually hated having it.

chap, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

Are there any male ilxors who currently sport the flowing locks, besides the obvious one?

kenan, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

Having had pretty standard short, male haircut for aaaages I accidentally grew long hair about five years ago and have been reluctant to revert back to shortness ever since.

The girls I like like it so I say classic.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 28 January 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

I've seen a lot of eight to twelve year olds around with long hair. Kinda cool, actually. Who knows how long it'll last, though.

Maybe if I had a chest like Fabio I would consider it, but seeing as how that would require an accident with experimental gamma ray weapons, it seems unlikely. I think long hair on me would make me look kinda, i dunno, Blueshammer.

All you longhaired boy fanciers, perhaps you can help me. Mine has been growing out for a year and change out of pure laziness and not knowing what the hell I want it to do. I feel like it's starting to look dumpy and bad though. Beard ditto, but they go hand in hand b/c I think I look goofy with long hair and bare chin. I dunno though!!!!! What do the girls like?? You can review all the hairs I've ever had here, with the most recent at the top.

It is cuets to see a prepubescent lad w/the long hairs. Mainly because in sixth grade there was this real gentlemanly boy in my class named Daniel, who was kind and polite, but only wore way oversized Metallica shirts and tried to turn every writing assignment into something about Metallica. <3 Daniel.

I am hardly ever a fan of the long hairs once they get past chin length. (That long or shorter = usually rad). It is weird making love to a guy whose hair is hanging down on your face. "Helps cannot breath ono Porphyria's Lover shit."

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 28 January 2008 20:23 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 28 January 2008 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

Haha - thanks Ned. As I said - as far as he's concerned you're living the dream!

Every week during the extremely painful hairwashing/drying/brushing routine he shouts - 'Right - cut it all off!' but by morning he's back posing with his guitar and asking me if it's as long as Robert Plant's was "back in the day".

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 28 January 2008 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

Ow yes, that's the problem: Long hair is mostly a huge pain in the ass. And seeing as men generally seem to think they're genetically excluded from beauty routines or anything more than bar soap and a toweling, I feel like I see a lot more clumpy greasy hair on them if it's longer than a couple of inches. Our host at brunch on Sun, for instance, who you couldn't have paid me to touch. Or prob 2/3 of the guys at my house on Sat night.

Why Do Mosh Pits Smell Like Shampoo These Days?
Current mood: annoyed

So I went to this metal show last night, and you know what? The mosh pit smelled like Pert Plus. Again. The first time it happened, I was at a DragonForce show. Predictable, right? Okay. But at a Finntroll show? Gimme a break. I think the problem is all ages shows. I'm not against all ages shows by any means, but when you get these 15, 16 year old kids at shows, it seems like they probably sat at home all day primping and, yes, shampooing before they went out. They didn't come straight from work like the rest of us, you know? Typical, despicable displays of good hygiene which have no place at heavy metal concerts, much less Viking folk/metal shows. The band just crawled out from under some mossy rock in Finland. They don't even know what "shampoo" is (don't get me wrong, they did have good hair). So show some respect, keep Nexus out of the pit. The scent sickens me.

Chaki, you're proving my point for me...?

Yeah, remy, I probably do. I'm sure, like, stockbrokers and investment bankers can find the shampoo aisle but I'm not likely to know any of them.

Laurel, Monday, 28 January 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

Different question - only washing hair with a bar of soap. Surely better than not at all but is this acceptable?

Bonita Applebum, Monday, 28 January 2008 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

yes im proving your point about all long hairs except ned having bad hygene by posting a funny blog about how mosh pits smell like shampoo.

chaki, Monday, 28 January 2008 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Acceptable if it works ok for you. I'm sure it strips a lot of oil out of your hair, but if you happen to have really oily hair, hell... go to town.

Every longhair dude I've ever known was meticulous with their hair routine and had glossy, gorgeous hair you'd want to steal and make a wig out of.

I'm kind of smirking here at all the people who are saying "omg long hair on men is stupid (Ned excepted" Why's Ned ok but no one else? Pft.

Only thing I'm no fan of: guys who are clearly going very bald and still insist on long hair so they look like Brian Eno circa "Virginia Plain" era. No sir.

Trayce, Monday, 28 January 2008 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

Because a) Ned's hair always looks clean and flowing so while I might not be the person to appreciate his look, it cert won't be on the basis of hygiene, and b) Ned is so clearly himself that it would be meaningless to make aesthetic judgments EVEN IF I found that photo -- was it a college picture? -- with short hair v pleasant looking.

Only thing I'm no fan of: guys who are clearly going very bald and still insist on long hair so they look like Brian Eno circa "Virginia Plain" era. No sir.

Hahahahaha yes that is an unfortunate look.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

I had this hypothesis for a while that (some) dudes grew their hair out to be SHOCKING by SCANDALIZING people with its ever-growing lengths. Then it would quit growing or people would get used to it and the SHOCK would wear off so they would shave their heads, to which everyone reacts "Oh my GOD! You cut off all your hair! You look so different! WOW! Did you give i to the cancer kids?" Once again SHOCKING their peers!

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

dude stop hating on longhairs. your boyfriend has a flattop like a marine.

chaki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

Only thing I'm no fan of: guys who are clearly going very bald and still insist on long hair so they look like Brian Eno circa "Virginia Plain" era. No sir.

Hahahahaha yes that is an unfortunate look.

Still, I would admire anyone who would sport that and not give a fuck.

dell, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

chaks my first boyfriend looked kind of like a youthful Gandalf understudy, but he didn't when I started dating him. And he flipped out if I asked him maybe ever to cut it, or at least trim his beard. It is pretty anti-sexy. A guy can let his freak flag fly, I don't care, but the gusset's gonna remain drier than a postage stamp from 1904.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

thats fine, abbs. all im saying is MAYBE you shouldn't be throwing stones about dudes' hair when your current beau looks like he getting ready for the race war in a shack in montana.

dell:
that would be called a skullet. as rocked by canadian rock god devin townsend.

bahaha it looks like that bcz I cut his hair, chaks, and I am still figuring out how to do a proper short on sides that fades into longer top but I always get it asymmetrical and end up having to raze the whole thing. I'm working on it.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

If he was a longhair dude cutting his hair would be no probs.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

skullet! this is a new word to me, and I like it.

kenan, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

Nils Frykdahl basically got the skullet:

Is McQueen wearing a false ear in that mugshot?

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel, thats fine that you prefer military guys getting ready for the race war over longhairs. however its your sweeping, absurd generalizations i take issue with.

chaki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

you should take issues with more stuff.

ken c, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

i am about to get my hair cut soon to shock people ;_;

ken c, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

"abbott theories"

chaki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

HYPOTHESES hello. I am trying to get people to stop misusing the word "theory" by setting an example.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

ken c your hair looks really good! You are a very attractive man tho so I am sure it will look good short.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

i think more people should talk to laurel like she's a really stupid person, because that's such an awesome thing to do.

kenan, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

I would say it's more "out of control" than awesome. Chaki is turning into that Honeycomb monster mammal thing.

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

Or: maybe not!

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

both of you are failing to make any sense.

chaki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

Honeycomb monster mammal thing

Can we have pictures please?

Bonita Applebum, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

i did not speak to laurel as if she was stupid. i was pointing out that, yes, maybe "all guys with long hair have bad hygiene except ned." might be a bit of an absurd, sweeping generalization.

chaki, takes one to know one, so i know: it the tone. it's all about the tone.

kenan, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

Because words and phrases like "liable to" and "pretty good chance" are the same as "always"?

Laurel, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

I mean someone is not reading very closely here.

Laurel, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

Bonita Applebum, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

i did not speak to laurel as if she was stupid. i was pointing out that, yes, maybe "all guys with long hair are liable to have bad hygiene except ned." might be a bit of an absurd, sweeping generalization.

abbott, dont hate on me because i mentioned your man has timothy mcveigh hair.

chaki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

actually timothy mcveigh's fade was smoother.

chaki, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I am trying to re-achieve this hair of his (which is what it looked like when I first met him) but he has a low hairline in the back he is really self-conscious abt so that is why I am working on the fade thing:

http://b0.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00028/06/96/28206960_l.jpg

But I do not think this is a bad look!

Abbott, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

He is so beautiful. <3

I have another hypothesis that everyone wants their loved one to have the same haircut they had at the beginning of their relationship. Certainly this has been my experience, way sad at a haircut. :(
