Johnny Knoxville.

toraneko (toraneko), Sunday, 19 January 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Jon Bon Jovi and Bo Derek.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 19 January 2003 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no crush of shame but my family tries to make it sound like I do. "Oh you just want to see that because it has Juuuuuude Laaaaaw in it," in very disdainful ridiculing voices - well so what if it's the truth!

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 19 January 2003 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

CJ I share you lust over robbie williams.

This was bookmarked on a JLD site as "showing her navel".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 19 January 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

DId nt hugh grant bed a Las vegas prostitute? have fun with that rotten crotch!

Mike Hanle y (mike), Sunday, 19 January 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

The Timberlake. He's a brain dead fuzzy headed himbo who really isn't all that attractive.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 19 January 2003 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Colin Farrell. I wasn't ashamed until recently, though. He's become the new Russell Crowe.

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 19 January 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

ilx.

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 January 2003 18:26 (twenty-three years ago)

(also, several posters from ilx. and not who you'd expect. also, eminem and avril.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 January 2003 18:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Pharell Williams. (Name and shame, Havril!)

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 19 January 2003 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. Though thankfully the Jules thing seems to be fading. A brief burst of madness perhaps. (And then I see a photo of him making that particularly pathetic puppy-in-the-rain face and I go all gooey again.)

I'm doing quite well in the "no crushes" department. I haven't even been back to the Arse Cafe to check on the state of Pliny's asslessness as he sets up microphones. But the more crush-free I become, the more depressed I become. But this is good, as I spend more time in my room coming up with drone-cyclical guitar riffs and less time staring gooily at dirty dronerock boys.

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Besides, I actually think I'm starting to fancy Nick as well:

http://www.thestrokes.com/photos/9c/9c1.jpg

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Reggae" :)

He's like that guy in Ghost World!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 19 January 2003 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Does he OWN no other shirts? Christ... Even my bingo wings ain't this bad, and I'm a middle-aged woman, I have a *right* to bingo wings!

http://www.thestrokes.com/photos/3c/3c31.jpg

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

What are bingo wings?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 19 January 2003 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

You know those flaps of skin filled with fat that old ladies develop on their upper arms? Jules is really working on a set.

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

why is crushing on JLD something to be ashamed of?

i have no answer because i have no shame.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

He looks pretty skinny to me.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, this is my fantasy, not yours, and if I wanna lick blue cheese sauce off Jules' bingo wings, that's my business.

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Bingo wings aka dusters! Ew.

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

That graffiti up there has got to be the worst ever.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

It's pretty standard dressing room graffitti. I've seen much worse in various backstages...

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't get backstage much.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

jessica biel

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 19 January 2003 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

"Backstage" is way overrated. Most of them smell funny. And they all have crap grafitti. And would it kill them to have decent mirrors and decent lights? We always end up changing in the ladies toilets.

Kinda takes the thrill of groupie away... you go to venues and you're relieved you *don't* have to go backstage.

I do have to say that I kinda like Dogchicken there, though...

kate, Sunday, 19 January 2003 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Jules reminds me of someone in that B&W photo, and I can't quite put my finger on who... Don't know if it's someone famous or someone I used to know, though.

kate, Monday, 20 January 2003 00:11 (twenty-three years ago)

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 20 January 2003 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

He's like that guy in Ghost World!

Ha! The "reggae guy" was played by my best friend's longtime friend from Piven theater workshop, I guess now he's a cultural touchstone!

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 20 January 2003 01:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know half of these people. I'm ashamed that I find Renee Zellweger pretty cute when she doesn't open her mouth or squint her eyes too much.

Julie Sawalha.. not necessarily shameful except for the fact that she has dated shameful men (which gives me a lot of hope!)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 20 January 2003 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, here's an actual shameful one: Winona Ryder. not the old one, the current one. um, rowr. [runs and hides]

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 20 January 2003 09:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Robbie Williams also, and it seems to be getting worse as he gets older and more wrinkly. I need help.

smee (smee), Monday, 20 January 2003 10:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Jane Horrocks.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 20 January 2003 11:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Felicity Kendall.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 20 January 2003 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Jane Horrocks is nothing to be ashamed of, my friend.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 20 January 2003 11:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank you for your support. (I dig post-conviction Winona too!)

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 20 January 2003 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Jaz Coleman. Alex in NYC, it's all your fault.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 06:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos: what's to be ashamed of? It's sadly ironic that new Winona (klepto-mentalist who appears in staggeringly awful movies) is much cuter than old Winona (intellectual goth-girl of Heathers and Beetlejuice). The universe is cruel, sometimes.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 06:32 (twenty-three years ago)

not merely cuter, hotter. partly because before she exuded a certain innocent naivete (boring) and now she seems much more deliberately manipulative (oh my fucking god yes). the whole "she dates every rock star who gets big" thing is part of it, too: she's been around the block and is completely shameless about it. uh, YEAH.

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 06:35 (twenty-three years ago)

a certain ilxer

another ilxer, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 06:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Justyn: shame as a result of the mean things others say about her inhibiting me, mostly

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 06:41 (twenty-three years ago)

The shame is because, to me, perving on a member of Fugazi feels like perving on the Pope.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 06:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Winona Ryder, present day

He's lovely! At least much lovelier than Timberlake.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 11:34 (twenty-three years ago)

oh forgot to say. i agree guy from fugazi's nice too.

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 11:40 (twenty-three years ago)

no shame in crushes, unless the person whom you are crushing does not reciprocate. even then it is but pabulum and we disintegrate into the earth etc.

my number of ilx crushes has now gone up to 12. they are exactly whom you'd expect.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

erik, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 12:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Wayne Coyne is eminently crushable for the same reason as Damien HIrst. I.E. not particularly conventionally attractive, but their MIND is just amazing, you know they'd be fun to talk to, and quite probably really adventurous in bed.

kate, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 12:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I also have a major crush on guy picciotto, i agree that fancying a member of the fugazi doesn't seem quite right.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Wayne looks like a Preacher-Man! Hallelujah!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Muffin Spencer...I'm not sure why the "shame", I just don't think she would approve. Her music makes me very, as Austin Powers says, "randy".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

There's no shame in any of these. Gordon Brown, now that's embarassing.

(He always seems so measured and organised, but then goes and does something as ridiculous as getting Britain five billion in debt. Proof there is a wild side under Westminster suiting!)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was post 69 on the Crush of Shame thread.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay Leigh, big thumbs up for your taste but this is spooking me a little. Acid test: do you presently or have you ever perved over Greg Dulli of the Afghan Whigs?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Guy from Fugazi is really really short.

Not to mention intimidatingly skinny -- I see him at shows every so often. But still he's hot in person and even hotter on stage.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I also kind of fancy Gordon Brown.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

how short is guy picciotto then? i know ian mackaye is only about 5ft 7, i'm 5ft 8 - i'd tower over fugazi.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm 5 ft 8 also, and based on my memory, he was noticeably shorter than me, so probably two or three inches, though the skinnyness may be distorting reality.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I've now got horrid visions of Gordon Brown self googling and then becoming a regular poster on here.

Celeste (Celeste), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooo horrid mental images of "self googling" being taken the wrong way. Nasty nasty brain.

Celeste (Celeste), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

My current actress crush is one of deep shame as I seriously doubt she's 18 yet: Jena Malone.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 18:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I take it back! She is now 18! I can perv with impunity, even though she's more the type you make puppy-faces over as opposed to actually perving!

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Years ago I saw Brown interviewed straight after, I think, a Blair (or even a Smith?) conference speech. I couldn't take my eyes off him.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Nabisco have you seen The 25th Hour?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Mark, are you implying that I'm some sort of habitual young-actress perv who will crush on Anna Paquin as well?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Brown is a very big boy. Very big boned.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 19:30 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Mark, are you implying that I'm some sort of habitual young-actress perv who will crush on Anna Paquin as well?

No!! I just wondered if yr "She is now 18! I can perv with impunity" bit was a reference..

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

zemko (bob), Thursday, 23 January 2003 09:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Crushing on Tara Reid is spectactularly shameful. She seems totally devoid of intelligence, she dresses terribly, she's skinny as a rake, she often looks like death himself, and she's in the worst movies one can imagine (save for Dr. T. and the Women which was not itself Rules of the Game). She reminds me of some of the post-sorority sisters who yell "Wooooooo!!!!" outside bars in Wrigleyville.

A rough equivalent, though not quite as shameful:

I was about to say, when you mentioned that on the Think Tank thread, I looked at you deeply askance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 May 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

It's killing me. I mean, everyone knew it was true all these many, many years. I mean, how long have you known me now? Since I was like 14 or 15. It was true then, it's true now, and I wish I was dead.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 9 May 2003 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Ms. Hoover from The Simpsons. Crush of shame cuz...

A) she's a cartoon
B) she's a fuckin cartoon!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 9 May 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, fret not, dear Ally -- but be prepared for Nicole's bafflement. At least you're crushing on the earlier version rather than the current one (uh, I hope).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 May 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

But ALLY!!! He is SATAN!!!

That's one of the worst crushes I've ever heard of. Even compared to mine, seriously.

But it would be great if Ally had an affair with Damon, and then proceeded to ruin his life and take all his money, etc.

Ally Albarn.

Xtina is a crush of SHAME?!

I can't think of any crushes that would be actually shameful (other than Albarn, of course.)

This is about as shameful as it gets:

http://www.handsomehughjackman.com/images/artwork/wolverine.jpg

My excuse is, he looks a bit like HSA. Really. ;-)

kate, Monday, 12 May 2003 10:17 (twenty-three years ago)

There is nothing shameful about Jackman/Wolverine! He is dreamy.

But there is something shameful about having a crush on the kid who plays Pyro. What is he, 18 or something? I am a pervertalist.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate, everyone fancies Hugh Jackman as Wolverine!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 12 May 2003 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I am wondering if it would be pathetic to replace my Spacemen 3 wallpaper with Wolverine wallpaper. But then everyone would think that I was a comics geek when I'm NOT!!! I'm a spacerock geek!

Pyro was quite cute, yes. But he was also 12. These things are not mutually exclusive. HSA and I watched Castrovalva the other day, and I had been perving over Adrick because I was 13 the first time I saw him, and remembered him as being well cute. But then we watched it, and HSA was teasing me "When did you start perving over 15 year old boys?" And I was all "NOOOOO!!! He was older the last time I watched this!!! (and the plot was less crap when I was 13, too!)"

kate, Monday, 12 May 2003 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay, I just looked up Aaron Stanford's (Pyro) age and he is 26. I don't feel so bad now.

But I guess should still feel quite terrible about Justin Timberlake.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate, everyone fancies Hugh Jackman as Wolverine!

Not I. Sideburns, yugh! *is hit with sticks*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 May 2003 14:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

You're just jealous 'cause he's hairier than you.

This is a bit like someone accusing me of being jealous of Eminem because his MC skills are better than mine. Objectively true but you have no idea how little I care. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

here we go with the sideburns crap again.....

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, is it because you're jealous that you're not the one who gets to play Peter Allen?

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

My extremely shameful crush of shame = Lisa Marie Presley. I mean for fuck's sake! (she is hott though, and her voice is totally sexy!)

kate, Monday, 12 May 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

im shaping my sideburns into Harry Shearer Folksmen beard.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.allabouthugh.com/images/loganfake1.jpg

kate, Monday, 12 May 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I totally thought Pyro was badass and roooowrrrr. But I also fancy Daniel Radcliffe and Christian Bale when he was in Empire of the Sun. But for the last one I was like 12 at the time so that doesn't matter.

Others: Kevin Kline, John Malkovich, and as I've mentioned, Shane McGowan.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Funny thing is, there are photos of the actor that plays Wolverine where he has short hair and no sideburns, and he's totally Not. Hot. At. All.

Which only goes to show the power of facial hair...

kate, Monday, 12 May 2003 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate,Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) is also in the craptastic Kate and Leopold and that Roma-comedy w/ Ashley Judd. Both craptastic, so of course I've seen them both.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

So have I. They are indeed craptastic, but Jackman is still k-rowr.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, is it because you're jealous that you're not the one who gets to play Peter Allen?

Why on earth would I want to play him? Creepy!

You should wear a blonde wig over it.

Heh heh heh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Ned, you just struck me as being on a Peter Allen kick.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, I don't see the appeal. I remember a very strange Solid Gold appearance he did, some very odd little dance. He was happy, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 May 2003 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Have I owned up on this thread? Female: Bo Derek. Male: Jon Bon Jovi. Both terrible and talentless but I drool.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 12 May 2003 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Now this is bugging me -- who was I talking about Peter Allen with on aim? Now that the most likely suspect has begged off, I have no idea.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 12 May 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Somebody not me who knows more about Peter Allen than two or three trivia facts to thread!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 May 2003 21:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I [heart] Vincent Gallo. And Helena Bonham-Carter. And yes, I'm appropriately ashamed of myself for drooling over persons whom I have never met.

mouse, Monday, 12 May 2003 21:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Christian Bale from newsies. Anyone remember that? Really I'm only slightly ashamed ...lots of male dancers (ballet-ish) in turn of the century dirty boy dress. I think crushes on Lex, Katie Holmes, Winona, Elijah Wood should be shameless and condoned, as I harbor them.

The creepier and more assholish his character on LOST gets, the more I think he is the rowr:

jeremy piven is at least more in my age group.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeremy Paxman. He of the inquisitive nose?

I have discovered my judge has a name. Martin Shaw. Quite a young mans name for such an old body.

Rumpington Lane, Monday, 10 January 2005 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I recently watched Rules of Attraction again for the first time since the first time, and realize that Ian Somerhalder's character is pretty much the only one in the whole movie that doesn't piss me off.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno if my awful David Walliams crush would count.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the way mr. paxman handles those uppity students on university challenge.

david walliams was in the mirror's gossip section this weekend for having a try at all of girls aloud.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey, he certainly doesn't seem to go for classy burds.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The years are defo taking their toll on him, yeah.

But you know, the older the fiddle the better the tune and all that.

I've been becoming increasingly interested in Danny Moon (Eastenders). My hormones are obviously running amok.

Um, Reza Aslan is kinda cute. His shirt in that above photo is unfortunate, but his way stylish glasses make up for it.

Crush of shame: During last week's ice storm I pored through my copy of All The President's Men and stared at the photo of Hugh Sloan. My GOD he was a mega-hottie back in the day. I didn't know men in the early '70s could look that good! I'm disappointed he didn't end up having a son because man, his son would've had some killer looks, what with his dad being so GORGEOUS and his mom being attractive as well. I'm ashamed of attaching hormones to such a serious subject, but, yeah, well.

Wow so this was 5 years ago and I don't even think "Begs2differ" posts here anymore, but I gotta say that I really really feel him/her on the young Illeana Douglass thing. She's amazing in the brief scenes she's in Goodfellas, I watched it recently and described her to my friend as being "really unusual-looking, but in a way that completely appeals to me."

You could fit the entirety of Chris Cunningham's skinny little pale british chest inside one of Andrew WK's biceps.

AWK once had a spread in Blender magazine about how to gain weight/bulk up! He's changed a look in a lot of ways in the past 3 years or so...sometimes in ways that give me...feelings. Feelings I'm not sure I want?

I know! It's giving me some cognitive dissonance.

breaking that little dog's heart chakra (Abbott), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 19:02 (sixteen years ago)

Thankfully I can just look at that picture of Cunningham in the fuzzy bathrobe with the shameful facial hair, like he's some kind of awful gnome you might find in your hotel bed, and run screaming from the room and possibly file a lawsuit, and all my urges to do anything to anyone subside.

Eighteen straight. I think that's a record. (kenan), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 19:03 (sixteen years ago)

Eighteen straight. I think that's a record. (kenan), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that top pic of AWK actually gave me pause in a "hrrrmmm, I might think about it.." sort of way*.

Like, most of the time he's just muscle bound and bleeding and not very attractive but every now and then he manages to look really pretty. (Usually it's a case of not seeing his upper arms which, frankly, terrify me.)

*except then I just drew him and stuck a beard on him and turned him into Chris Cunningham so I felt A-OK about it all again.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2772/4294261098_531f448120_o.jpg

I don't understand how anyone can, just, like, look at Chris Cunningham, and not be slain with abject lust. He is so unbelievably beautiful, just the shape of his face, like a Renaissance angel. OK, if you watch his films, he's sick, perverted and deeply twisted. But I kinda like that in a man.

Thanks to the terrible power of topless pictures deciding to finish off a bottle of vodka before dinner this thread I have had bad thoughts about Chris Cunningham AND Andrew WK within the space of 30 seconds.

I have a shameful televisual crush but after people have posted pictures of actual shirtless hotties I don't think I will dampen everyone else's lust by adding pasty nerds of the babyfaced-but-balding variety which seems to be my, uh, type. Siiiigh.

Which is, like, the most adorable thing ever. (Says someone who has never ever spent the afternoon in a tube station trying to record the sound that the tube makes when it accelerates oh no not me, never.)
