I'm at work, and I'm dying to know what the SERIOUS, low-key Oscars are like. If you're watching, please inform. Thanks!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:16 (twenty-three years ago)

grouchy

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve MArtin is funny, but the crowd's not so into it. Chris Cooper won Best Supporting Actor, which is right and good. No lame editorializing yet.

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 02:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone has just received some prize or other from some blonde lady.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:21 (twenty-three years ago)

It's exactly like the non-serious, non-low key Oscars. Lilo and Stich wuz robbed!

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve Martin is pretty funny. I noticed guys laughing more at him than girls were, what was that about? Harrison Ford looks like a right pervert sitting with Calista Flockheart.

So far, both Brendan Fraser and Keanu Reeves have presented, so I guess they wanted to get the "men who should just stand and look good and never speak" segment of the show out of the way early.

Jennifers Connolly and Lopez had on terrible outfits.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:23 (twenty-three years ago)

they are NOT low key. i cannot sense any change. Martin even made a point of the lack of difference.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 02:23 (twenty-three years ago)

fuck that, Carey! Spirited Away is the best movie I've seen in years!
you haven't even seen it yet!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Have you seen Lilo and Stitch?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Lilo and Stich wuz robbed!

Wh-wh-whu??? Spirited Away winning has been the only good thing that has happened to me this week.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Carey, unless Lilo And Stitch was the best new movie I've seen since 1999, it doesn't fucking matter.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait minute, is Spirited Away the movie I alwasy think is about the horse?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and oi! At the risk of sounding terrible, Catherine Zeta Jones! I mean, right on, gain proper weight when preggers, etc, but jesus! She's bigger than my mom was, and my mom had 8lb twins! What the hell has Catherine Zeta Jones got in there, a 5 year old? It's spectacular and awe inspiring!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet she gives good lap sits now.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

and I can't imagine a little blue gremlin in an Elvis outfit topping the visuals in Spirited Away.

NO!!! That's Spirit: The Adventures of Cinammon or whatever. Spirited Away is anime. and goooooooood.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked it when the robot microphone ran away from the boring old LOTR art directors who had spent more than 20 seconds on their speech.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry - SFX guys.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah i have a fetish for that little blue gremlin. Probably because I originally thought the movie was about this wacky koala bear that get's stranded in Hawaii.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh stop arguing about cartoons and make fun of how everyone looks, jesus. Catherine Zeta Jones! She's having a litter! Etc!

Boy, Paul Simon is boring.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, actually that horse movie is caalled Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

You'll love Spirited Away. Trust me, Carey.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I had my picture taken with a 20 ft Stitch, but I'm still glad that Spirited Away won.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Can Nia Vardalos please go away now?

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:30 (twenty-three years ago)

instead of running away, the microphones should give the speakers an eletric shock.

"and I want to thank my managerrrYOW!"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Why is it when people get money they lose weight. What happened to weight being a symbol that you were wealthy? Nia Vardalos you suck! (although you are married to Javier from Felicity)

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Catherine Zeta Jones (why the hell is she called that anyway - no one is called things like 'Zeta' in Wales?) is having septuplets AND THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERENT FATHERS.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The swelling music is so tacky.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:33 (twenty-three years ago)

do they have Peter Coyote at a news desk announcing stuff with a headset mic on like last year?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

What's really fucking awesome too bad is that the little feel-gooder that could, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, won't even be mentioned tonight.

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

What? The jokes are not so hot. (Do you think Jack and Anjelica laughed at the Roman Polanski quip?)

Bizet is sooooo spinning in his grave over that Pepsi commercial. Sweet Jesus, what the hell was that?

Jennifer Lopez was wearing a dress that either Carla, Marla or Darla wore in the Great Muppet Caper

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean Connery on his way home from the Capt D's late night menu.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

and who's singing "Lose Yourself" in Eminem's place? Coolio? Academy Award Nominee Queen Latifah? Will Smith won't do it cause there's a war on.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Catherine Zeta Jones: I'll concur. She was pretty good in Chicago. Who knew she could dance and sing.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:37 (twenty-three years ago)

she's damn sexy until you think about her making out with Michael Douglas. Yick.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Carey looks vaguely like Catherine Zeta-Jones! I forgot! So ya know, folks.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:39 (twenty-three years ago)

You are the second person to tell me this. But I'm not pregnant.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

she's damn sexy until you think about her making out with Michael Douglas. Yick.

That's hot too if you're a pervert.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I once told Mark S. that Michael Douglas was smug like a frozen smurf. I stand by that assessment.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean Connery is the dandy highwayman.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:41 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst tattoo I have ever seen was a smurf with a huge penis coming out of his pants. Which reminds me of Michael Douglas now.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just heard a rumor about Robin Williams doing 'Lose Yourself'.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:42 (twenty-three years ago)

any anti-war people speaking out?

robin (robin), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:43 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst tattoo I have ever seen was a smurf with a huge penis coming out of his pants. Which reminds me of Michael Douglas now.

Exactly.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:43 (twenty-three years ago)

which reminds you of Douglas, the smurf or his penis? I vote for the latter.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

No anti-war people yet. I don't think that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins will be giving anything out. So there is one given gone.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Renne Zellwegger always looks like she's just eaten lemons, hasn't she any joy? Real joy?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Decided to ditch the Oscars this year, even though "Lord of the Rings" is up for a few awards. The only thing I can be thankful to this war for is that the bloody glitter and air-kissing had to be turned down a notch.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Renee Zellweger always looks like that, and her buffness in Chicago was distracting. I kept imaging what it would have been like to have Madonna in her role.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it just me, or does Renee Zellweger always kind of look like the mom on That 70s Show?

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Was that Peter O'Toole I just saw? Yikes.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:49 (twenty-three years ago)

She sounds like her too. I just decided I don't like her. I don't like most of these women. I like the guys. Does this make me bad?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:50 (twenty-three years ago)

He's getting the honorary award.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Name for us some women you do like, Ally

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I LOVE PETER O'TOOLE! EVERYBODY GO RENT THE STUNT MAN!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i heard dustin hoffman was going to have something to say about it
i've also heard will smith isn't going because of the war
what does this mean?
is he worried the iraqis have one huge trick up their sleeve?
or is it in protest?
i cant imagine someone who was in independance day being anti war

robin (robin), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:52 (twenty-three years ago)

These clips will be the death of me. They could get rid of like 4 of these friggin clips and let people give their acceptance speeches without the 15 second cut off.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:52 (twenty-three years ago)

what are clips?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to work with someone named Peter O'Toole. He only was there for a short time, he stole money and they fired him. He was later on a show on cable called America's Convicts or something like that - turns out a simple background check would've revealed he was a lifetime corporate criminal.

I like Liv Tyler.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:54 (twenty-three years ago)

is it just me or does renee zelwegger have about three or four clones who are always in trailers for romantic comedies?

robin (robin), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Robin - they were ALIENS! Something had to be done fer Christ's sake.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Will Smith is not going because of personal choices. He's not pro or against anything. He just withdrew. I don't think Independence Day was the pinnacle of what it is to be American.

Clips- I should have said an endless montage of clips from movies we've all seen hundreds of times in other montages.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I just think most of the women in romantic comedies are horribly annoying and cutesy, so they become interchangeable.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and Will Smith didn't attend because he felt it was inappropriate to go during a war. Not because of any pro- or con-rhetoric.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Salma Hayek - what is Spanish for big bazoombas?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that's it...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:58 (twenty-three years ago)

renee zelwegger has such a specific voice though,i'd never heard it before she was famous, but now loads of actresses seem to have it,and they all look like her too

robin (robin), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I just found out on Imdb that Frida won best make up. That unibrow must have been damn impressive.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Salma Hayek.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

but seriously guys, i think it's "grandes jugosos"

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Zooey Deschanel, Kathy Bates and Kirsten Dunst. Can't think of anybody else (Frances McDormand is good sometimes, Susan Sarandon on rare occasion).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jugosos Grande, maybe?

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:01 (twenty-three years ago)

What is the other half of Salma Hayek? I know she's Mexican but is she Arabic too? I got into an argument with the last guy I dated over this.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Carey, think about this: Selma, mash potatoes, Ed Norton, "si! es bueno!"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed Norton always looks like he just got finished crying.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Salma Hayek gonna win a highly belated lifetime achievement award for Dogma? I only saw it a week or so ago.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:04 (twenty-three years ago)

http://i.cnn.net/cnn/2003/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/23/sprj.aa03.oscars/story.zetajones.ap.jpg
Woops.

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Moderator! Moderator!

Did she win then?

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

"I EAT CHILDREN!"

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I... I don't know who that is...

Wasn't she in The Mask Of Zorro?

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:11 (twenty-three years ago)

That robot microphone shadow has made her cleavage scary.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

"I BANG SALMA HAYEK!"

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

That bastard. That beautiful bastard.

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you see how smug he is?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Diane Lane = ultra hott

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

what a strangely phallic photo that is.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I would be smug too if I was banging Salma Hayek. Like, all American Psycho mirror-style and shit.

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:17 (twenty-three years ago)

THE OSCARS ARE ABOUT TO ERUPT INTO A FITE! MICHAEL MOORE YOU ARE A ROUSER! RAPSCALLION!

I would go after Ed Norton except there's just no way I'd beat out Salma Hayek, why can't he date like Renne Zellwegger instead?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:19 (twenty-three years ago)

what did Michael do?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i saw a lot of people sitting quietly, but who was booing?

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Talked about a fictiously elected pres starting a fictious war. And people booed him!

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Michael Moore gonna bang Salma Hayek anti-war style?!

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Moore invited all his fellow nominees onstage with him and said they were all standing in solidarity against Bush and the war.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Not in my name!

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:21 (twenty-three years ago)

John Travolta should have blinded him with his teeth!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry - that was in response to Gatinha.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:22 (twenty-three years ago)

She's enormous, but the Zeta is real. Grandmother's name.

Ooo the BBC has Amanda Donohoe commenting. I've just gotten up to catch Peter O'Toole collect an award he really doesn't want - when they told him about the honorary award he was miffed to be considered that close to corpsing.

Oh, never mind, Michael Moore has just been holding an Oscar, yelling 'Shame on you, Mr Bush'. Big standing ovation too, followed by booing.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I was totally stunned by the booing - it seemed to have a higher (or more vocal) booing contingent than it did cheering contingent. Hollywood in pro-Bush shockah?! Haha I'd like to see both sides start fiting now hardkore.

Julia looks purdy.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Everybody's gonna get up on stage and go up Salma Hayek in a last ditch attempt to stop American troops marching peacefully into Baghdad!!

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I tells ya, if Frank Sinatra was alive, Moore'd be getting one knucle sandwich right now. Nobody disrespects America on Frank's stage! NOBODY!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:26 (twenty-three years ago)

WHERE'S TIM ROBBINS WHEN YOU NEED HIM!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:27 (twenty-three years ago)

smugly applauding at home.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Banging Susan Sarandon?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

smoking pot with Matthew McConaughey?

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Watching Jacob's Ladder and Bull Durham and crying over the time he was considered a real actor and not the punchline to a bad joke?

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim's telling his kids to turn up the TV cuz Live is about to perform at the Video Music Awards! ROCK!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

betcha it was J-Lo who was booing.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Walken's hair deserves the best supporting actor award.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:33 (twenty-three years ago)

OH MY GOD COLIN FERREL IS HOT.

Thanks.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:33 (twenty-three years ago)

this Oscars need more cow.... nevermind

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 03:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just heard another rumor that Bongo is gonna shoot J-Lo and hoist a white flag!

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Is bono having some sort of hemmorage with that singing? One can only hope.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

why isn't anyone booing Bono?

i demand equal opportunity booing.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh bloody hell the BBC have got the editor of Movieline on as a pundit and HOLY FUCK, SHE'S A MORON. Amanda Donohoe is looking at her like she has spinach on her teeth as she has just criticised Michael Moore: 'b-b-but he wasn't supposed to say anything! He wasn't following, *ulp*, the rules!'

Fuck the rules, you forelock-grabbing, cubic zirconium-lumbered Fat Clubber.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Matthew McConaughey looked really really stoned.
is it just me or is U2 the most dull band on earth ?

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

you are so right ally. colin makes my cock hard.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

But Moore wasn't disrepecting America, he was dissing the president and his decision to take the country into war. I was pretty surprised at the amount of booing there, especially following the pretty enthusiastic cheering that greeted both the announcement of his name in the list of nominees, and when he won. And really, what the hell did they expect from him, if they had actually watched the film that they voted for? I mean, it's almost a case study for Bush's motivations for the war.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, just what the FUCK is it with film editors?!

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Bono def. deserved booing with a performance like that. Holy shit was that ever awful.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Daniel Day-Lewis was weeping, having flashbacks to being kicked on the set of "My Left Foot" from that song.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean, realize that I know that, but Frank, FRANK wouldn't care about your goddamn semantics he'd give that pudgy sonuvabitch what for. Bono would be SO conflicted.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

(The most disappointing thing about the Michael Moore speech was that they didn't put Charlton Heston on the screen when he was speaking. That would have been the best thing EVAH.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm reading all this shit about how they wanted the Oscars to be subdued. How FLAMBOYANT did it used to be? I don't recall choruses of "fuck the homeless" or anything. I don't remember Jack Nicholson riding in on a rickshaw, whipping his drivers.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:40 (twenty-three years ago)

OH NO SUSAN SARANDON SHE'S GOING TO SAY SOMETHING CONTROVERSIAL I'M SURE!!! Actually, she seems too busy making bedroom faces at the camera to say something controversial. Where is Tim Robbins!!!!

Bring back Colin Farrel, the whole show should just be him standing around looking hot.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Appears Polanski is falling prey to the curse of "I Did It With a 13 yr Old"

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 03:41 (twenty-three years ago)

In the tech category, I'm pleased Chicago didn't win for Cinematography...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Farrell, Ally.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Colin Feral

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Susan Sarrondon looks like bette davis.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Colon Feral

o. nate (onate), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh like it's important how his name is spelled, I don't know the last names of half the guys I've dated for god's sake.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Not that the Oscars are THAT important, but are the people involved going to be a little embarrassed by an awards sweep by "Chicago" in ten years?

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Susan Sarandon is hot. Please don't put up an unflattering photo of her. Let her rock my world White Palace style forever.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:45 (twenty-three years ago)

By the way, I'm like still unable to breathe over the image of Jack Nicholson and his rickshaw drivers, oh my god.

badgerminor, if they aren't embarassed by Mira Sorvino winning for Mighty Aphrodite, nothing shames them.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:45 (twenty-three years ago)

like titanic ?
and i hope his colon is feral.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Appears Polanski is falling prey to the curse of "I Did It With a 13 yr Old"

I would have figured that doing a movie about the Holocaust would cancel that out this time, because we all know how those Academny voters love movies about the Holocaust...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

RIP

James Coburn, Richard Harris

Cub, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I wont get to see the Oscars (if I bother) til tonight Aus time (its about 2.45pm here now). I just have to say you guys doing this running commentary is making me pee my pants. Keep it up! :D

A recap

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:48 (twenty-three years ago)

being Jewish is bad press in an Arab-centric year perhaps?

Tim Robbins' career montage next...... featuring Martin Lawrence

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Dances with Wolves should have been a musical.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, I thank you for that Sarandon photo. mmmmm.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

what can we do to stop having tom hanks at this thing.
also i am really glad that the war didnt prevent halle berry from showing almost all of ther marvelous tits, she paid for the things, she might as well show them to the whole world.

and the curse of the 13 yr old is lifted.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmm I see your point. Being Jewish in media is soooooo 20th century...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Adrian Brody is gonna have his ass served to him on a plate by Halle Berry's SO (or the police).

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicholas Cage is a man who quite annoys me for reasons I can't put my finger on.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom Hanks needs to run for president. Or make Return Of The Man With One Red Shoe.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

yay Adrian Brody. Way hotter than Feral

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 03:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Come on Big Bill the Bastard!

Apparently Daniel Day-Lewis excused himself from use of toilet facilities, refused to speak to anyone he'd ever met and PRAYED for eight months in preparation for the role.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are they playing "Jane B'"?

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Adrian Brody is hot but NOT hotter than Colin and I'll take this outside if you want!

Especially if Ed Norton is also outside.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 03:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Colin Farrell is boring as fuck looking.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:56 (twenty-three years ago)

and with that list you guys gave on previous Oscar winners... nevermind... those are all fairly embarrassing.....

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:57 (twenty-three years ago)

STOP BEING JEALOUS OF MY COLIN FARRELL. Anyway I make a career out of dating wankers, come on. I am saving myself for Ed Norton.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Colin Farrell is...not in any movie I've ever seen.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Adrien Brody deserved it.

Cub, Monday, 24 March 2003 03:58 (twenty-three years ago)

adrian brodys speech was deeply moving.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Robert Smith to the rescue please

and all the actor winners have been the obvious and right choices

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 03:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Adrian Brody's speech was moving.

Barbra Streisand = Jennifer Aniston in 30 years.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw Farrell for the first time in Minority Report. I am so sheltered.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 03:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I've ever seen him in a movie. I seen him just now! He was hot! Was he in some kind of cowboy movie? Cos I think I remember seeing that, it was terrible.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Barbra Streisand = Jennifer Aniston in 30 years.

Ally is OTM.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HOLY SHIT Eminem just won an Oscar!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:01 (twenty-three years ago)

EMINEM IN WINNING AN OSCAR SHOCKAH

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:01 (twenty-three years ago)

YES! I am SO sweeping the Oscar Poll at work!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:02 (twenty-three years ago)

And it was announced by Barbra Streisand, which is possibly the funniest possible turn of events imaginable.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, holy shit is right.

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish Eminem had been there to accept the award from Barbra.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i didnt know he was a stage hamlet.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Comparing the photos makes me really glad I didn't live in the '70s. I fucking hate Robert Redford.

I hope they get some great ham from Becket and The Lion In Winter for O'Toole. Lots of shots of him SCREAMING LOUDLY!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Brad Pitt: is he the most objectively good looking man currently working in Hollywood today?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:06 (twenty-three years ago)

60s O'Toole was so hottt. As is Adrien Brody.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Are we placing bets on who wins best actress now?

it'll be J. Moore, but should be Diane Lane. I did call the Brody darkhorse though.

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 04:08 (twenty-three years ago)

As long as it's not Renee Zellwegger I'm happy.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a film major, and I know clips from other clips shows rather than from film school.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:18 (twenty-three years ago)

haha she takes advice from Russell Crowe!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Kidman's smooch of Denzel there was nowhere near as passionate. But it looks like she can barely stand upright because of the emotion, so...

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

"Did you ever notice that Peter O'Toole is a double phallic name?" - Groucho Marx

Joe (Joe), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

haha she takes advice from Russell Crowe!

Does that mean she shouts "Nicole Kidman!" during sex?

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

That'd be some banging, getting the two of them together.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

rileys ears are closer to the kids.
nicole kidman deserved it last year, not this year.
this year it was all about julianne moore.

and she is making the art is important speech, self serving bitch.
maybe i am being far, unjustifaction.

families losing people, explicit mention of mother, cheap sentiment makes anthonys tummy hurt. i am too much of a cynical prick ?

Joe (Joe), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony: Replace "tummy" with "crap factory" and yes, you are a cynical prick

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:25 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst speech in Oscar history was Roberto Begnini's.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

HAHAHA CUBA GOODING JR!!!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

What about Jack Palance muttering incoherently and then doing one handed push-ups?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

That would be the BEST speech ever, obviously...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:31 (twenty-three years ago)

One handed push-ups = the stuff of dreams. It should be a requirement. That and jumping and screaming a la Cuba.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope Cuba gets nominated for "Boat Trip" next year, it simply screams Oscar!

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, back from my cheese sticks break. Who replaced Eminem in the sing a long this year?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

This little retrospective of past winners reminds me that there should be more Rita Moreno in the world.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

see. I'd agree if he'd segued into the push-ups well. But instead he went "er um they say um er old people can't well, here's..." and then one-handed push-ups. It reminded me too much of Don Ameche breakdancing in Cocoon.

AGHHH! I wish I had some cheese sticks.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

ive been playing my own oscar drinking game. chug your drink everytime you see a Coppola or a $cientologist.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

My late observations: Michael Moore is a jackass and Geena Davis looks better in curls.

bnw (bnw), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Holy crap, Mickey Rooney still walks the earth?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Did Mira Sorvino get plastic surgery? And I so do not look like Zeta Jones in that picture.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Has Cuba Gooding Jr's career been in decline since his Oscar, or was his Oscar an abberation... like Brady Anderson's 42 HR season?

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Louis Gossett, Jr. in Iron Eagle IV

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 04:34 (twenty-three years ago)

well not in THAT one, Carey. I meant in general.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:35 (twenty-three years ago)

mira looks real bad i liked it when her face was fat

chaki (chaki), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Christopher Walken deserves an Oscar just for being Christopher Walken.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I could have a thing for Adrian Brody.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean Connery should've won for Highlander.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:36 (twenty-three years ago)

At the very least, Carey, he gets best hair award.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:36 (twenty-three years ago)

The best Oscar speech was Joe Pesci's, now that I think about it. "Uh, yeah, thanks!" Brilliant.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:37 (twenty-three years ago)

(Christopher Walken, that is)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Holy crap, Mickey Rooney still walks the earth?

I was the biggest starrrr...in the world...(zwoop) (pop!) (swish).....***in the world***.

Joe (Joe), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

You know if Michael Moore did all that, I wouldn't have expected anything less. Bowling For Columbine was great. The people who should see it though won't.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. Liz Taylor on a gurney. And with Michael Jackson by her side...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Richard Gere sounds like he's been smoking a lot of unfiltered extra-tars

Wow, Almodovar won! Way cool!

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:48 (twenty-three years ago)

why the fuck do they hate far from heaven so much ?
it was the best movie of the year, and had so many good preformances, not only did they not reward it with the right nomations, they didnt give it at least one of the traditional "artist" awards.
i think i will be sick.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:49 (twenty-three years ago)

No, not way cool. Almodovar is the most overrated non-US-based director of the last 15 years...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:49 (twenty-three years ago)

tie me up tie me down was good dude

chaki (chaki), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Almodovar does kind of leave me cold. Not that wild of a pick really.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Women On The Verge is a fantastic movie too

OK, I'm freaking sick and tired of the "Rock And Roll" Cadillac ads

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Y Tu Mama Tambien would have been wild...

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, what's up with Harry's hair?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Polanski, wow...

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 04:54 (twenty-three years ago)

(And looking back at the start, Spirited Away is godhead and is much better than most other things ever -- including B***y, but I digress. ;-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I am shocked.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Kirk Douglas = too many facelifts?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

What's with Kirk Douglas's voice?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

How did someone as cool as Kirk Douglas end up with a smurf like Michael Douglas, I ask you?

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Harrison Ford's tie matches his hair. How stylish.

Oh god, I loath Michael Douglas. I had to watch Pink Flamingos in my university library for a class and this girl was watching Basic Instinct next to me. She kept looking over at my movie, like I was a freak. And I was like, dude , you're the one watching Basic Instinct for fun.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Kirk Douglas had a stroke a while ago.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

He had a stroke or something.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Aha.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Scorsese seemed to be the most genuinely enthusiastic about Polanski's win.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Spirited Away is godhead and is much better than most other things ever -- including B***y, but I digress.

Let it go Ned.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

ps. Musicals can sukk it

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll second that.

Chicago was actually better than most things that have won in previous year (Gladiator, Shakes The Clown in Love). Everyone in it was very very good.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Gaudy musicals are the new historical epics.

badgerminor, Monday, 24 March 2003 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

well that wasnt a bad oscars show at all now was it?

chaki (chaki), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Spirited Away is godhead and is much better than most other things ever -- including B***y, but I digress

...Booty?

Why is everyone hating on Gladiator?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Let it go Ned.

Aw man.

Anyway, LOTR cheated out of rightful victory for the second year in a row = nothing is valid and all is lies. There.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If only every Oscars was this mercifully pared down...

Aaron A., Monday, 24 March 2003 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Booty?

No, booty has its place.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Again, who sang "Lose Yourself"?

Carey (Carey), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:01 (twenty-three years ago)

LOTR even being nominated is a total injustice, Ned. I mean, I enjoyed it and all, but best picture of the year? C'mon now.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Phoned my mum after Peter O'Toole was on and she says Renee Zellweger has Nice Girl Blowjob Face: 'you want me to WHAAAAT?'

She is also a hata of Michael Douglas: 'I know he saw that girl - MY GOD SHE MUST WEIGH 200 POUNDS - and ordered her like a fucking pizza.'

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:02 (twenty-three years ago)

WHO WILL COME WITH ME AND MAKE A HOLOCAUST FILM???

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:03 (twenty-three years ago)

diane lane = hubba hubba

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:04 (twenty-three years ago)

LOTR even being nominated is a total injustice, Ned. I mean, I enjoyed it and all, but best picture of the year? C'mon now.

It being the only one of the five nominees I've seen, I have to judge it the best of the lot! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:04 (twenty-three years ago)

And in one post, it is revealed that Suzy and I are sisters.

(psst - there was no performance of Lose Yourself, unless I fell asleep at some 5 minute point)

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, does your mom call all shifty men eg. Michael Douglas 'wieners'? She was saying a lot worse, and funnier too, but then Kate woke up and whined about me being loud and I forgot everything in my annoyance. FOR FUCK'S SAKE IF YOU CAN'T DISS THE OSCARS WITH YOUR MUM AS LOUD AS YOU WANT IN YOUR OWN HOME WHAT'S LEFT?

I think the Holocaust vote bloc and the Hey, I've Shagged A 13-Year-Old Too vote bloc magically came together tonight. Do they FedEx Polanski his award or will they be like 'well, you have to pick it up...'

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:15 (twenty-three years ago)

She doesn't really say "wieners" but she definitely has said that thing about him and Catherine Zeta Jones. Oh man does she hate him. He's like her definition of creepy old git.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I was really looking forward to watching Robin Williams perform Lose Yourself when I rewatched the highlights. Damn those fake rumors.

CUDDILINESS

chaki (chaki), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh I remember: Mom said that when she saw CZJ and Queen Latifah standing next to each other, she had to DOUBLE TAKE to distinguish between them.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:29 (twenty-three years ago)

That's really disturbing, that cuddliness thing.

Haha, that's what my mom said too. "She's making Latifah look like Calista Flockheart!" Oh my god, the poor woman is pregnant and we are being so harsh, but REALLY who gains that much weight unless they are having a litter of puppies?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Well it is her second... surely most normal people gain more weight the second time around, no? I mean she looks matronly in the cell phone ads. Now she's going to look like a Southern Fried Mama.

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed it all. I was watching the 8 Mile DVD. Damn, that's a great fucking movie.

Spirited Away was awesome.

That Girl (thatgirl), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:38 (twenty-three years ago)

No dog ever gained that much weight in pursuit of a litter. Maybe she's going for the lead in The Julie Burchill Story.

My mom seems to know a lot about Michael Douglas: 'I remember he was with Brenda Vaccaro first and ran off with that beauty queen who he dumped to be with that huge pregnoid. He should have stuck with Brenda Vaccaro.'

BTW I think boo-ers of Michael Moore were incredibly rude and Far From Heaven (I've never known someone who was up for an Oscar before but I know the cinematographer of that) was robbed on some level.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:38 (twenty-three years ago)

CZJ obviously is someone who doesn't "naturally" have that sickly Hollywood physique so I'm not surprised she looks matronly, but even with that she is VERY big for just having one baby. It's incredible! I am certain she's having twins.

My mom also knows a lot about Michael Douglas, she's very upset by his existance.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, suzy how do you know Ed Lachman?

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Jimmy, met him six months ago at a dinner for L@rry Cl@rk which went HORRIBLY WRONG (EL also shot Ken Park, the LC film that's not out yet). But because of circumstances and fact that we had to hang out waiting for police etc, 'met' became 'know'.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Fucking radical

jm (jtm), Monday, 24 March 2003 05:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Far From Heaven was an incredible film. From all aspects. I'm sad to hear it won nothing.

People who talk about women's weight are loserz. (but damn Q.L. has got some big ass t. . . never mind.)

That Girl (thatgirl), Monday, 24 March 2003 06:06 (twenty-three years ago)

CZJ is as big as a bus, yes. Hit me, bus.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 24 March 2003 06:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I think FAT has mutated from a feminist issue into a capitalist one. I'm just as likely to diss fat men: cases where obesity is part and parcel of a medical condition are the exception, not the rule (just as anorexics make up a fraction of the thin). And in the land of the Bloated Voter some light flensing wouldn't go amiss, along with the message that 10 Africans could easily live a well-nourished life on the consumption habits of one Super Sizing American. YUCK.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 06:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, that dinner with Larry Clark.

What did Adrien Brody say that was so moving?

I only saw a few snatches of this in a bar.

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 24 March 2003 07:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What is the other half of Salma Hayek? I know she's Mexican but is she Arabic too? I got into an argument with the last guy I dated over this.

Just read all 310 posts, her other half is Lebanese.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 24 March 2003 07:34 (twenty-three years ago)

highlights for me: matthew mcconaughey trying to keep his shit together, despite telltale psycho stare and jaw set to "gurn" all the way though the ceremony; michael moore's rant; adrien brody winning, and the subsequent sound of a million jaws dropping when he did....and nic cage's totally unfakeable expression of jubilance and delight - now that's a gracious loser.

also all the catherine z-/ weight stuff is really icky and weird. she's pregnant for fuck's sake.

jeanne picot (jeanne picot), Monday, 24 March 2003 11:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought CZJ looked powerful, radiant, energised and very beautiful.

Tatyana, Monday, 24 March 2003 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

And in the land of the Bloated Voter some light flensing wouldn't go amiss, along with the message that 10 Africans could easily live a well-nourished life on the consumption habits of one Super Sizing American. YUCK.

Do I think Americans eat too much? Yes, way too much. (Myself included sometimes, but I live in the food-culture capital of the USA and it'd be a shame not to take advantage of that.) But if Americans eat less, how exactly does that fill the stomachs of starving Africans?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 24 March 2003 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, where was Paul Hogan this year?

Joe (Joe), Monday, 24 March 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

who else thinks steve martin has had a nose job ?
he looked like robin willyums in
millenium man (worst film ever obv.)

also despite agreeing with moore, who else thinks that
chris cooper/nicole kidman's subtle war-referencing
talk was dignified thus made it's point
quietly but better ?

nic cage and jack were
sat nxt to each other despite both
being nominated 4 best actor that's
surely unusual ?

this year was bo-ring compared to last year/yr before
even the clips montages were a bit dull.

peter o toole = genuine british legend
the fact that he spoke about all the friends
he'd made/ people he had loved in america
was most moving bit of the show i thought.

do we *really* need that bit every big anniversary
where they line up all the nominations together on stage ?

yep highlights apart from peter o, and moore
were cameron diaz looking stunnin'
(but like phil oakey a bit),
julianne moore looking genuinely
not that arsed all night meaning she knew she
was on a loser for both awards and had decided
to just enjoy, and yep that eminem lift vers.
of lose yourself.

ooh also - the bit where they played a montage of each year's
musical bits, but actually stopped the background music
for the ike hayes shaft theme where it goes 'shaft ! daaaamn right'
then went back to the music. ace !

piscesboy, Monday, 24 March 2003 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just been debriefing an artist pal about last night and she was whooping at the transcript of Michael Moore's words. It's really odd to see that montage of previous award winners because it looks like a Love Boat/Fantasy Island guest-stars round-up more each year. Nobody you'd really want to see (Katharine Hepburn) turns up, and the '40s actresses that have gone a bit reclusive/Norma Desmond still have the same hairstyles and colours as in their heyday (sheeyit! Jennifer Jones!).

I got up SPECIFICALLY to see Peter O'Toole, who as a crush figure probably led me straight toward the wonderful world of well-spoken, well-read Bowie casualties I later perved over for the rest of my adolescence (and would they show the NO PRISONERS part of Lawrence to pass political comment? Would the only guy in the room able to ride a camel SAY ANYTHING?). My mum tried to say how frail he looked but he's always been that thin. See?

http://www.globalgallery.com/product.links/s-bwc-A034.jpg

One of my former suitors even tried to theorise that he looked enough like PO'T to sustain my interest.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

But right now I really want to watch THIS.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 March 2003 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

matthew mcconaughey trying to keep his shit together, despite telltale psycho stare and jaw set to "gurn" all the way though the ceremony

He always looks that way though.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 24 March 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Especially when attacking Renee Zellweger with a chainsaw (that is what happened in that one movie, right?).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 March 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I totally want to see Jennifer Garner nude. That fucker from Felcity gets to hit that shit every night.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 24 March 2003 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

http://graphics7.nytimes.com/images/2003/03/23/movies/fash_garner.jpg

Goddamn!!!!

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 24 March 2003 18:26 (twenty-three years ago)

this is a really late, negligible complaint, but i'm convinced that "24 Hour Party People" deserved nominations. Bastards.

badgerminor (badgerminor), Monday, 24 March 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha ha

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 24 March 2003 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't know Horst Bucholz had died until they did that dead people montage. This happens with someone every year. I heart Hortz. Sigh...
