This is the thread where you tell us what your cat is doing right now.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Sleeping.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

sitting on the hood of the car.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

curled up sleeping by a heat vent. i'm guessing out of the past 200 hours he has been doing that exact same thing for 198.

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Sleeping in his "secret hiding place" on the top-most shelf of the closet in my foyer. How he actually gets up there, I'm not sure; I've never actually seen him climb up there. I think there is enough random detritus in there that he finds a sturdy enough point from which to leap the final distance.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Well one of them's dying of cancer, one's outside my door trying to get me to give it pellets it won't eat, the other one's prob asleep

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Curled on the arm of the couch six feet away from me, half asleep. He's waiting for me to go to bed.

Aaron A., Friday, 9 January 2004 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Cats!

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Slowly going senile. It's quite amusing but also very sad.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

today just for the hell of it I put Pepper up on top of the entertainment center/bookshelf thingee. It's really high, close to the ceiling. There's a bunch of crap on it. I wanted to see if he'd try to jump down or not. Then I got distracted for five minutes, came back, and found him on the ground along with my now-broken 7th grade basketball championship trophy. I was more pissed about having missed his leap.

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

sleeping on my bed

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Cats. All they do is sleep.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

And break stuff too, I guess.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

all the stuff

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat got off the couch, came in and meowed at me ("Don't you think it's about time for bed, bub?"), and now it's just sitting there in the hall.

Aaron A., Friday, 9 January 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

slocki does your cat sleep on your bed often? mine does and my nose is nearly constantly a bit stuffed up. but what am I gonna do, refuse his plaintive mourns for late-night cuddling?

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I suffer chronic nasal congestion, too.

Aaron A., Friday, 9 January 2004 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat's siamese and when he's not sleeping he's busy being a fucking asshole. More on this as the day progresses.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah oops, but what can i do? it's usually late at night like now, and then i go to bed and she gets up and either a) goes to sleep quietly somewhere else or b) runs around like a maniac knocking everything over

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know how people deal with long-hairs, though they are very nice to pet. My cat sheds a complete wig for Cher each day and he's short-haired.

xpost what is up with cats suddenly freaking out and running around like posessed speed-freaks at 3AM?

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I always let my cats sleep on the bed. I mean, they seem to want to, and I'm not allergic or anything. And I have a nice decent queen-size.

May, my family's first cat was a siamese. It was actually older than I was! Amazing cat, it lived to be like 18; I think I was 15 or so when he died, very sad. He had the deepest, gruffest miaow.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably at this moment, Emily will be asleep in her basket and Sophie will be asleep in one of the chairs which are upside down on the dining room table (they are that way to stop the cats sleeping on the cushions, Sophie has decided that it's just as comfy to sleep on the underside of the cushion which is made of plywood).

Rob M (Rob M), Friday, 9 January 2004 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

awwww! 21st century technology is my twee nu-god.

petra jane (petra jane), Friday, 9 January 2004 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat is terrified of me.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Why, Nick, what did you do to it?

My cat is currently chasing a pipecleaner around the house.

cis (cis), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I relented. "Enjoy" yr pellets, Sheena

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Sleeping. No surprises there, then. When I last saw him, he was curled up on the living room window-ledge.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

She's terrified of me since I stood on her in the dark ages ago.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Guilt

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Right now my (ex) cat is living in the ocuntry, there she has the entire sauna for herself most days of the week. Sauna is her new home and she rarery leaves it willingly.
So, "in all probability, my (ex) cat is in the sauna, looking out of one of its two windows, feeling vaguely annoyed and quite bored."

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 9 January 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I read somewhere that cats who are allowed to sleep with their owners are generally happier.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my cats (the retarded one) is no doubt staring plaintively at the bathtub, wishing for the water to turn on so he can bite it and swim around. He's a fishcat.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat sleeps w/me when she's not slutting herself round

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Those are my cats.

You can probably guess which one is deaf and retarded. And fat.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Your cats have cool eyes!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

That's because they're demonspawn!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Asleep in the towel drawer

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Saffy is probably either asleep on the corner of the bed, on the couch, or on the chair where she can stare at my murderous fish. (He killed his bowlmate. I'm convinced of this.)

If someone is coming home, she will appear in the hallway to greet them, then will come the playing with toys and the climbing all over you, the couch, and any other flat surface where she knows Cats Don't Go (on tables, on counters, on stovetops, etc).

Although lately she's taken a fancy to hanging out in the bathtub. Maybe because she hasn't gotten a bath in awhile.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

One is taking a bath on the bed, the other is sitting on some cushions in the living room, apparently not sleeping because when I walked in the room she looked up at me like "What?"

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The boy is currently keeping my wife's nightshirt from levitating off of the bed.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 9 January 2004 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The last I saw him, he bit me and I started crying.

Allyzay, Friday, 9 January 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm at work right now which means my cat is probably either still asleep or killing time by watching squirrels from the living room window. The lazy jerk.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

My cats live with my parents, but I am fairly sure they are sleeping.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 9 January 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

At my parents house, sleeping atop the piano, probably. And look down in disdain at the big black evil dog who is trying to eat him.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Watching the news and looking annoyed that I disturbed her.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Old grouch cat: lying on the bed in a huff.
Aloof cat: lying at the top of the stairs, directly above a warm heating pipe.
Mentalist kitten: no idea, but it probably wanton destruction of furniture.

Tag (Tag), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat's siamese and when he's not sleeping he's busy being a fucking asshole.

My cat is a Himalayan, but also a fucking asshole. Currently, he's probably asleep on my sweater shelf in the closet or crapping in the shower.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I learned it from you!

Hep the Cat (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Lies!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat is still in kitty heaven drinking dirty martinis with angelsquirrels.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Our second cat was a Himalayan. The one we got after the aforementioned 18 yr-old Siamese. They're really beautiful. Unfortunately, this one had a lot of health problems. He had some kind of stroke or something when he like three years old. He used to get seizures pretty regularly after that and only lived a couple more years. Must have been bad breeding or something. Very sad.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The first cat I had, Ace, was awesome. He loved to lay all over you and when I went and played in the backyard he clawed his way up the screen door to the porch Spiderman-style trying to find a way to get out there with me. I had him for only 4 or 5 days, then we took him to the vet and they said he had a heart murmur. Told us he may live many years or he may die within a year, recommended that we put him to sleep, so that's what my parents decided. I cried and cried and cried. So much that my mom eventually said 'okay, let's keep him'. She called the humane shelter but they had already done the deed. Very shitty. (The cat I have now, Pepper, is his brother, and was a complete dick at first, totally anti-social. )

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

awww

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

right now he's wailing like a banshee. sounds as if someone were grabbing his tail and swinging him around. I don't get it. He's got food/water. He can come over here if he wants to be pet. He does this a lot and I have no clue why.

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine does that all the time. Drives me up the wall.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Sitting in my lap. I wish I had the means to post pix of him.

Aaron A., Friday, 9 January 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Existential angst, oops.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine only does that when he goes into the bathroom and there's no water turned on.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine does the random caterwaul-for-no-reason thing as well. I think it's just something they do.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 9 January 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

And the IndyCat 500 at 3 am - I get that too.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 January 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

She's sitting behind me. no, wait, now she's just jumped on my bed. I love my baby kitty!

oops (Oops), Friday, 9 January 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish I could have a cat. I'm allergic but also the landlord said we can't have one, even with a deposit. I really really wanted one, so much that last night I dreamt that we had three cats and it was fun. :(

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat spent an hour this morning flicking at papers on the floor with her paws because she knows the noise shits us up the wall, she does specifically annoying things when she wants to be fed. eg goes for my most precious cocteau twins poster, paw poised ready to rip "I'll do it, I really will, if you dont feed me, I'm gonna DO IT!".

So I got up and fed the little shit and now I have no idea where she is. Asleep probably.

Why the hell is ILX saying its the 9th when its the 10th? *confused*.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

minna (minna), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat was the best in the world, and I'm not particularly a cat person. He went outside and disappeared a year ago last Christmas.

:(

Dan I., Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I lack a cat. I can tell you about the spider in the corner tho.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the cat is now lurking softly on the front porch.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

one kitty is laying on her side on the floor. one is lazing about in the loft, his paw hanging over the edge. the third is MIA. probably sleeping with my mom.

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 10 January 2004 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Little One is licking Punky.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 10 January 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

She just came into the room. If she's not distracted, she'll jump on the bed and get in front of my iBook --

-- oh, wait. She got distracted. She does that.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 10 January 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine just paid me a visit and left. When he comes around like that, he usually wants something. If I get up and follow him out of the room, he'll lead me either to 1) the front door (he wants out), 2) the kitchen (this means he just wants to be pet), or 3) the bedroom (he's horny he's ready for bed)

Aaron A., Saturday, 10 January 2004 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Runty got a beesting on the front paw and now it's swollen up [it's his own fault, i keep telling him bumblebees are not for eating but the kids these days they don't listen yeknow]. he is playing the I'm Cute And Helpless card for meaty treaty prizes.

petra jane (petra jane), Saturday, 10 January 2004 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

One of them is sat in a box next to a radiator, another is nowhere to be found and the other three are sitting by the window, giving me cute and pleading looks to be let out so they can run round the side of the house, up onto the kitchen roof and wail at my mother's bdroom window.

mei (mei), Saturday, 10 January 2004 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

he was laying on his back a while ago. YES THIS IS REALLY MY CAT. I don't know why he is this fat.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Saturday, 10 January 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do people always have multiple cats?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 10 January 2004 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

because they show up as kittens and are too CUTE to give away

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Saturday, 10 January 2004 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I was worried that would be the answer.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 10 January 2004 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

then they turn into that beast you see above.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Saturday, 10 January 2004 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Petra Jane - have you kidnapped (cat-napped??) one of my cats?

The cat in that ski-jump-pose picture you have posted is the EXACT image of my cat, Pepsi!! He even sleeps like that!

this is my favorite thread title ever after the cats with tea one

amateur!st (amateurist), Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do people always have multiple cats?

A solo cat who is at home alone during the day is bored by the time his human comes home, and therefore wants to stay up all night and play. If there's another cat, they entertain each other during the day, and then are not as greedy for attention in the evening.

Or so said the shelter volunteer who was urging me to adopt a pair of cats.
;^}

And I just may do that...some day.

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it's also great to watch their homoerotic displays of affection, re: "Little One is licking Punky".

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

however if you have two or more cats they often gang up on you

amateur!st (amateurist), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

picking her way about the bed, bewildered, looking for a spot to lie down and sleep among all of the detritus that is currently thrown about on top of it.

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 11 January 2004 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I came home eating Haribo Gummi Bears. Kitty was intrigued, but lost interest once I held one up to his nose.

But then I have him a treat (Pounce brand chicken flavor), and now he's following me around the house wanting MORE.

duane, Sunday, 11 January 2004 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Cat update!

Lucy (Nick's stripey kiitty) is in the guitar room with me suspiciously approaching my bottle of ginger ale.

Pepper (my gray kitty) is sitting in the middle of the dark living room floor and she looks terribly uncomfortable there.

Anyway, our cats are totally into that secret cat society tradition of running back and forth like a stampede in the wee hours of the morning.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 11 January 2004 06:35 (twenty-two years ago)

One's hogging the remote.

Now, Pepper is sleeping on Nick's Korg DW-8000.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 11 January 2004 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing wrong with her eye. Flash photos never work on cats.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 11 January 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The top one's white hair is starting to turn yellow, like an old man's.

more pix of cats snoozing on music gear, plz

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Sunday, 11 January 2004 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Cat update: my cats are also engaging in the secret society behavior described by Sarah, i.e. chasing each other around and hissing and biting like they're not domesticated.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 11 January 2004 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Cat fight!

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 11 January 2004 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, FIVE cats :-)

(Plus a dog who sometimes curls up in a box next to the radiator. I think he might have species issues.)

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 11 January 2004 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Next you can guess which brand of remote control I have.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 11 January 2004 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

unless i'm wrong, you have a remote made by General Instruments/Comcast.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Sunday, 11 January 2004 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You're absolutely right. Damn.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 11 January 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, our cats are totally into that secret cat society tradition of running back and forth like a stampede in the wee hours of the morning.

That's why mine goes outside whenever he wants to, so he can stampede up and down the street without waking me up.

(of course, he then wakes me up by sitting outside my window and miaowing because he's hungry, or sleepy, or just wants a cuddle.)

I like food, therefore I name my cats after food.

One, whom I found in an alley, is called Haggis. That's a Scottish sausage.

The wee one, who is still a Kitty McNugget and wee, is called Kipper. Which is a wee-er fish.

They're Pro Cat Wrestling, at the moment.

Ali Skye, Monday, 12 January 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Meow, Meow Mow Mow. Mew? Meow meow meow. Meow! Mew Mew Prrrrr.

That's for all the cats logged onto ILM right now.

That's what my cat would look like if it wasn't an incredible fat-ass.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 12 January 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

What a beauty!

Aaron A., Monday, 12 January 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat is so pathetic. He's like, 'aren't you ever going to go to bed'?

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 12 January 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

my cat is rotting in hell!

fucking ay, Monday, 12 January 2004 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

All cats go to heaven, fucking.

One, whom I found in an alley, is called Haggis. That's a Scottish sausage.

A Scottish pudding, you mean.

(well, technically, they are little wild animals that run around the Highlands, but are very easy to catch. But the *real* haggises are now an endangered species, having being hunted to almost extinction, so we have to make do with the sort made from offal instead.)

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

He's confused now.

Allyzay, Monday, 12 January 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat also lives with my parents. (Technically, I guess it makes him *their* cat.) Anyway, he's 9 months old and his name is Enzo and he's black, white, and stripey. He's most likely sleeping now. I miss him.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll tell you what he's not doing, and that's sleeping on my bed - he was banished at 3 am because he ran across my face with his little cat claws out and scratched me - I don't take well to being woken up that way, so tossed him out into the cold dark living room.

Bwahahaha. Or something.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat fell asleep wrapped around my arm last night. I don't know what he's doing now, probably trying to wrap himself around something else.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I made my cat a little web page. He's a bit bigger now.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

awwwww...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow Jeanne, your cat is like a very cute Two-Face.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Broheems cat could be a model. Very humanlike expression.

ghost bitch (blood bitch), Monday, 30 October 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

The two cats in our house are taking the dry dog food out of the dogs' bowls and batting each individual piece around the kitchen floor before eating it.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 30 October 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

Junction, Tx is also home to a great many cats due to the constant availability of food.

Cesario just came in. He's cleaning himself, and complaining a bit 'cos it's time for his breakfast.

Sophia is sitting on the matress I keep in the hall; when I found her she stared me right in the eyes, very earnestly like "yes, is there something you want from me?"

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 30 October 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

sleeping x 2

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Monday, 30 October 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

Hopefully the cat I'm 'borrowing' is pawing through the ACME catalogue, concocting elaborate and violent plans for how he's going to dispose of the mice in my kitchen.

mei (mei), Monday, 30 October 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

One cat is sitting in the doorway to my office, looking confused; the other one is in my office closet, looking for the perfect place for a big nap.

four years pass...

Resting peacefully in a garbage bag after being killed by a loose dog during the night.
