TOMBOT, Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:53 (twenty-two years ago)

saturday nights are for amateurs

I was at work again, in fact I still am.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm at work now. All night. There was just a huge explosion in Baghdad, however, so I'm busier than I'd expected.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

quiet night slightly spoiled by the stupidity of others

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave didn't want to buy Tom a drink, I found out later.

Allyzay, Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

My Saturday night:

1.  Went to a family birthday barbecue that lasted from 6 to 10 p.m.
2.  Drove to the supermarket in our neighborhood. That lasted from 10 to 10:30 p.m.
3.  Picked up needed grocery items and paid for them. That lasted from 10:30 to 11:05 p.m.
4.  Drove home. That lasted from 11:05 to 11:20 p.m.
5.  Put away groceries. That took me 10 minutes.
6.  I am currently sitting here in the same clothes I've been wearing since the birthday celebration, trying to catch up with the online world and chatting online at the same time.

Whoo, I'm a wild woman. ;)

I saw these guys tonight.

am now recovering from beer-induced stupod. am on IM. playing Kingdom Hearts, too.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed, that sums up so much, seriously, that needs to be the first line of a good novel right there

TOMBOT, Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no nouveau bourgie. i much prefer old money. don't you?

i went to a dinner party then i went to a computer and talked to my friend. i had some beer. i went to bed.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost Dee, that sounds pretty good.

xpost2 Di yes I do prefer old money, they have manners. My god, you can practically taste the difference.

TOMBOT, Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i wouldn't know, i've never been either.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm bored, I want to go home and sleep.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:29 (twenty-two years ago)

After a low-key dinner I finally watched my Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD. Damn that's a great movie. Sleep is imminent.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i discovered IRE

Man, this is like beautiful Winsor McCay money somehow.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Saturday night remarkably similar to last night only with less alcohol and a different set of movies. Given the circumstances, pretty goddamn great!

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:41 (twenty-two years ago)

TOMBOT, it was a pretty good evening, even if it was a bit low-key. And considering the fact that I just got to hear some songs I quite like, things look fairly decent in my world.

Oh yes, and screw those nouveau bourgeoise dillweeds. Hope next Saturday night is better for you and Ally.

As Sweet As Melody (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Went to a pub with the photographer for the newspaper.
Drank.
Had drinks bought for us by the guy who owns the local ambulance service.
Guy who owns service regaled us with stories.
Went to second bar. Owner bought us drinks.
Tried to look aloof while hoping pretty girls would think me complex and mysterious.
Came back to office alone.

Christian Rawk (Christian Rawk), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

We went out and watched To Catch a Thief, which was way better than I had been led to believe it would be. It was really amazing the amount and intensity of innuendo they got away with!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Makes me wonder what the actual first instance of a penis size joke (however oblique) in a feature film was.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Went to the Chicago Sketchfest. Saw some friends' sketch-comedy group. Went to the bar with them afterwards. Drank a fair amount. Fin.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I listened to Johnny Cash and the Velvet Underground, put together an entertainment center and a desk, and watched Buffalo Soldiers, which was crap.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I spent most of tonight listening to this.

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, whoops... I meant listening to this.

And basically what Telecom said.

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

worked. had minor drama when my ex who i'm sort of seeing again showed up with a date.

asked him not to bring dates to the bar on my shifts. bar manager told him not to bring dates to the bar at all. amusing.

came home. listening to new missy.

btw, michelob ultra has replaced heinken as the new yuppie beer.

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 18 January 2004 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

heineken is shite, hun, so i'm glad to hear of that.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

coughed up a lot of mucous. finished the book i was reading. made several half-assed attempts at sleeping. slept for about four hours. woke up. coughed up a lot of mucous. repeat.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Watched "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", WAY superior to Fri night

Black Sperm of Vengeance (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 18 January 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Bbbbut Di, Michelob Ultra is complete SHITE. It makes me shudder.

Some dumb yuppie bitch tonight said, "I don't imagine you have Michelob Ultra" as if we were too lowly for her trendy ass. Bitch.

Di, did you see yourself on my Sexy Gals page?

Viva La Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 18 January 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched TV.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 18 January 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Crap. Pouring buckets outside. Hung out with a group I consider to be in the 'testing phase' and found out they don't care about anyone but themselves despite my trying to accommodate them at every turn, cold ditched them in Gastown, went to apt. of trustworthy friends, yakked about nonsense till 5:00am which made me feel better, currently eating sub from 24hr Subway the lettuce of which is at least 48hrs old or more.

Le Coq (DarrenK), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

post match drinking in a nice little pub near Waterloo. Thai food. Traitor Hand turned up. Night bus home in time to catch the end of Taxi Driver. Wooo.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that Thai food gave me food poisoning. Either that or the burger at Kingsmeadow but I'm pretty sure it was the Thai seafood platter :(

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

THIS IS MY HAPPENING AND IT FREAKS ME OUT

Z-Man (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Fun. Did merch at a gig, got a bit tipsy. Went to a friends party, got even more drunk, and got a taxi home at 5 in the morning.

jellybean (jellybean), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I ate Thai food and drank beer in the company of Stevem, Chris, Vicky, Carsmile, Meg, MarkH and (briefly) Traitor Hand, and it was much fun. I don't have food poisoning, and my dinner was lovely.

I then spent the early hours of Sunday morning sulking because I was in the Worst Club In London with some people I hadn't seen in five years (for a good reason, it turns out) and bitching to the two people in the room I actually liked.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I worked, it's my busiest night of the week. Good, though. One of my waitresses got all dressed up to go out clubbing in Southport and she suddenly loked so young and vulnerable that I wanted to ban her from going, but everyone would have laughed at me and quite right too.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

on the way home from the football i bought some cake for the party, looked at my new goldfish for a while, went to the party on a diverted/hijaked bus that noone knew where it was going (turns out a building on blackstock road just fell cown into the road )

helped put out food and drinks and sat around with the hosts as loads of people arrived. danced to outkast with so many people that the wood floor was bouncing. ate nice snack food, danced more, talked to loads of people.

very very good fun. people didn't leave till after 6, so it was a late night for us. i so want to be asleep right now!

colette (a2lette), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i didn't make it to the party colette (too tired and dishevelled), glad you had fun. i also passed up Princess Superstar DJing at The Key in Kings Cross.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to see the Unicorns play with the Candyland Riots at Empty Bottle with Nick and this girl who responded to my bandmates ad. I drank a woodchuck. It was fun, but also it was my second night of going to shows in a row, so I felt all achey by midnight.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 18 January 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

failed to expeditiously stomp asses of thieving cockfarmers at otherwise nice little pub in Waterloo

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 18 January 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

one of the alleged thieves (the actually quite pretty one not Mrs Carlos T Jackal)kept looking at me and smiling or perhaps i was deluded. no doubt it was a ruse to feign security. i refuse to date kleptos anyway.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

even if they steal your heart?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 18 January 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, i need that to live!

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

attempted to go bowling, but it was too crowded. we had a few drinks while we were waiting, so after giving up on getting a lane we decided to carry on with that. over to another bar, where an old friend of mine was working. she showed her fondness for me with generous measures, and i woke up on the couch at 7 this morning with an untouched container of nachos on the table that i don't really remember ordering or paying for.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

This weekend? Trying desperately to keep eyes open through a fog of jet lag, sitting on the couch alternately reading Mark Girouard books about the architecture of country houses and playing with the dog. Oh, I took the dog for a walk, too, I think. Elizabeth Windsor, also known as Winnie, the most energetic Corgi in Christendom. Sheesh!

the river fleet, Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I watched the Right Stuff. It was pretty great except for its interminability and I think I finally OD'd on Dennis Quaid's goofy closed mouth grin.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

ate dinner at the slanted door. Great food, bad table of rich yuppies next to us who blathered incessently about their kid's French school and buying multimillion dollar properties and other shit I didn't care about; talked about seeing a movie, then heard the yuppies planned to see Along Came Polly which we'd also considered; felt old, decided not to to this; drove back to Berkeley, went to the Claremont bar for a good laugh, decided at the last minute to go to a party in Richmond at my (prospective) drummer's house, which was the right decision, hung out there until 2:00 am, came home, crashed.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

we started off with mosquito (a 1994 night of the living dead update with giant cgi mosquitoes instead of zombies). the first hour was pretty funny, second hour disintegrated into the usual dull horror/action chase-scene conventions.

then we watched turgid romcoms (which i have a weakness for when they're on tv and i'm sick or hungover): tnt's goodbye girl remake (i didn't think any more or less of it than i did the original, except maybe the kid's less annoying here, and it is the fuckin' pepsi girl, so that's saying something) and the first few minutes of sleepless in seattle (worst movie ever, my eyes, the goggles etc).

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

If you think Sleepless In Seattle is bad, let me recommend The Story Of Us.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I spent most of the day and evening yesterday painting the inside of a house, then watched a couple episodes of Family Guy on dvd. So boring I wonder why I'm bothering to write this all out.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

What color are you painting the rooms?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

If you think Sleepless In Seattle is bad, let me recommend The Story Of Us.

oh, god. the michelle pfeiffer/bruce willis flick? that looked sooo wretched.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the pinnacle of wretched really. Between that and North at least. Both directed by Rob Reiner, oddly enough.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Rob Reiner, man...I don't get what happened to him.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

There's actually a montage of their family life near the end that contains an unforgettable "It's a boy!" "It's a girl!" "It's a bunny!" "It's a HOME RUN!!!" sequence. Rob Reiner directing an Alan Zweibel script evidently opens the portals of hell. The only remotely good scene in the movie involves Bruce Willis riverdancing. Yeah, that's the BEST.

I think after not getting the oscar for Misery and A Few Good Man (he didn't deserve it, but as the Ben Stiller Show noted, he CRAVED it), I think the guy decided he hated us all and wanted to MAKE US PAY.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Oddly enough, the best scene in North involves Elijah Wood dancing as Tevye in Fiddler On The Roof. Both movies reach their comic highlight when the lead actor shimmies. Egad.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

mosquito (a 1994 night of the living dead update with giant cgi mosquitoes instead of zombies).

BUT IT STARS RON ASHETON!!! OF THE STOOGES!!! I had to watch that movie, like, a million times when I was in Detroit.

(It still sucks though.)

the river fleet, Sunday, 18 January 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It does???? I would have watched it if I had known that!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

shit, i was wondering if that was the same ron asheton!!

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, it's the same Ron Asheton! It's a much funnier movie if you watch it with that in mind!

(He has a passel of land up in the wilds of lake district Michigan and is into all that hunting and shooting and fishing and stuff, so the role is really not that much of a stretch for him!)

the river fleet, Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

This is utterly bizarre. So is he the lead character or something?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Finishing writing my short story for my girlfriend's post-apocalyptic writing project. Went and played a jazz gig at a dinner club in the middle of nowhere. There was a half a buffalo coming out of the wall next to me. Went home and went to bed.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 19 January 2004 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

went to go see The Battle of Algiers at 7:30 but it was sold out so we bought 9:30 tickets instead. Then, with a glut of time, tracked down some eats. We decide to go to The Pink Teacup, which bills itself as "Greenwich Village's #1 Soul Food Restaurant." If it is, I'd hate to see #2. One waiter on staff, cockroaches crawling on the walls (of course, I noticed this after we got our dinner), and the food just wasn't very good in general. However, the guy playing the Swayze part in the Road House musical sat near us, so I guess that was cool. Went to get desert and coffee at Cafe Reggio, saw another cockroach in the desert tray. Ugh. Made it to the 9:30, a/c wasn't working in the theater, but that's okay, the movie was great. Took a cab ride home to Brooklyn with a talkative cabbie, which is usually pretty irritiating, but this guy used to tour manage James White so that was at least kinda funny/interesting.

hstencil, Monday, 19 January 2004 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty good night actually. ILXor Colin Saunders was in town with his lovely friend Jenny. We had great tapas at Cobras & Matadors on Beverly, then walked up to our Berkeley friend Halla's apartment near Fairfax for a birthday party. Danced and drank until 3am. We came back to my apt, put Moulin Rouge in the DVD player, sat down on the couch and immediately passed out.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 19 January 2004 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Kim (Kim), Monday, 19 January 2004 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I spent seemingly hours trying to find something to eat in Monterey, finally ate a pizza that would eventually cause a terrible allergic reaction, tried and failed to get in to see The Cooler, considered seeing Torque, instead drove home and went to sleep.

the icebox (nordicskilla), Monday, 19 January 2004 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Darts and dominoes and Harveys in pub, followed by amazing drive along the coast through sunset to rendezvous with the entire Williams family for much gin, wine, beer and Chinese food. Apart from my gay uncles Peter and Peter (yes) getting emotional because they love Matt so much (in between sharing dessert recipes), the highlight was my gran drunkenly musing on food and loudly concluding 'I do like faggots'. Which, as one of the Peters muttered, is lucky.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 19 January 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha, a sitcome beckons for Archel's familia surely

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 January 2004 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Quote from last Sunday which led to one of the main non-music attractions at the party I attended/performed-at Saturday night: "You bring the shower cap and the bikinis, I'll bring the kiddie pool and the pudding". The fact that they really went through with it = amazing. Other than witnessing party insanity or contributing to it myself via playing keyboards, drum set, djembe, and a variety of strained voices, it was a pretty lackluster night. Oh who am I kidding it was ridiculous awesome.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 19 January 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Mission of Burma concert at Irving Plaza.

I was right in front, right next to the biggest and craziest Peter Prescot fan.

I also handed out pictures of Mission of Burma my mom took.

What fun!

I actually did have fun.

Aja (aja), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I sat on my sofa with sgs resting our feet and (in my case) a daytime-drinking hangover. We ate pasta and chilled out and went to sleep early. It was both nice and necessary. Sorry Colette - we did feel crappy about letting you down :(

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
I tried hanging out with Ally & Tom, but they didnt wanna come. Anyhow, I broke my cell phone, I'm sick, and I hit on some boy who said I was really cute but he was just visiting from Canada. Fucker. The Heatherette party was fun, and now I'm gonna sleep for 20 hours. Seeya later.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 29 February 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 29 February 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Saw "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" with Sarah at the National Film Theatre on the South Bank. It was rad.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 29 February 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to the pub in Greenwich with my brother and some mates and a visiting Australian tourist and drank heavy-as-fuck microbrewery beer.

Then I went home at closing time and tried in vain to stop one flatmate drunkenly ruining the other's Romantic Night In, and then had the best night's sleep I've had in weeks. I should do quiet weekends more often.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The Heatherette party was fun

i almost went, but ended up in williamsburg instead. how's that bar? i think i'm doing something there in a few weeks, but i have no idea what it's like.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil, Sunday, 29 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Went to a house party to celebrate my mate becoming 30 and my other mate passing her Farrier Exam.
Proceded with more boozing in the local pubs, carried on with more boozing in the clubs until 2am. Met up with lots of old friends, an ex-girlfriend whom I hadn't seen for over 5 years and chatted with James from 'Starsailor'.
Then went back to a mates house and played Vice City on his huge Plasma screen in his basement.
Then went to another mates house and watched Blackadder the Third on DVD until 7am. Tried reading Calvin and Hobbs after that but was absoloutely knackered and fell asleep on couch.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 1 March 2004 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i almost went, but ended up in williamsburg instead. how's that bar? i think i'm doing something there in a few weeks, but i have no idea what it's like.

its nice. its two floors. the first floor is small, mostly just the bar and the line to do lines in the bathroom. there are two flights of stairs to the 2nd floor, where there's a nice dancefloor with the DJ booth and a wall of sparkly christmas light, and a couple of steps up to another bar area. pretty nice overall. what're you gonna do there?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 1 March 2004 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

My last Saturday night was spent clutching my gut in pain, dressing quietly as possible so as not to disturb the friends we were visiting, setting the navigation system in my car to find the nearest hospital in a strange city, getting poked by fingers tubes and thermometers, and finally going to sleep at around 4:45 in a hospital bed, an IV drip filled with anti-cramping medication hooked up to my left arm. This past Saturday night was spent at home on the sofa, happy to be out of the hospital, trying not to scratch the itchy stitches on my belly. I do not miss my appendix at all.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 1 March 2004 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Went out with a friend and had a few beers in his house listening to some new mixes he downloaded, heard a funny Vitalic mix where Miss Kittin comes onto the microphone midway through La Rock and says "No no no, La Rock does not sound like zat, La Rock sounds like zees!" and the music changes into a sort of remix. Then Vitalic starts to scream "I do love you Miss Kittin" in his weird accent over the music, exactly in time, and even louder as a beat comes in.

This was the highlight of my Saturday, I've now spent at least 5 minutes describing it. After my friends house I went to the pub and then back to mine where I smoked some horrible resin and got really stoned. Much ruin - a beer and curry evening with Mrs. Dr. C and our lovely friends R+F. We were intending to crawl 3 or 4 boozers before hitting the curry, but ended up staying in the first pub which had an excellent guest mild....which I should remember the name of, but can't. Might have to go back for more.

I cooked pork tenderloin (marinated in raspberry chipotle stuff), mashed taters, mac & cheese (for the boy), and made a big huge salad, fed myself, the boy, my roommate, and her friend, played outside with the boy, laid around watching movies, stayed up recording music after he went to sleep. He got really sick in the wee hours and puked everyone. Neither of us got any sleep at all. Fin.

Art in South Kensington, wine buying, tube to Barons Court, skirting round Hammersmith Cemetery to my blonde friends' new house, seeing lots of people I was at college with (also mostly blonde), awkward chatting until the wine kicked in, gradual bettering of the party in direct correlation with drunkenness, and dancing to horrible 80s music (there was a notional Charlie's Angels theme) until it was suddenly after 3 in the morning. Slept on the night bus and was incredibly cold when Rob woke me up at Archway.

All in all, not bad.

I called it a night when the girl I was talking to was talking too fast for a long time and I couldn't hold my head together any more, so everyone had to leave. I then went to bed. Vitalic definitely the highlight.

Tonight T. and I cook for six 15 to 16 year olds for my cousins birthday party/sleepover. We made a taco buffet and everything was actually very tasty except my queso. I don't know what happened, I followed the instructions but it failed. How do you make good queso without using Velveeta?

JacobSanders, Sunday, 15 January 2012 06:37 (fourteen years ago)

Rephrase that last question as a declarative statement and it answers itself.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Sunday, 15 January 2012 06:51 (fourteen years ago)

But I used 3 different cheeses, monterey jack, asadero cheese and panela and I slowly heated a fourth cup of whole milk slowly stirring in a little flour and cumin until it was hot. I added the cheese and kept stirring and the result was lumpy stringy cheese, not really a dip even!

JacobSanders, Sunday, 15 January 2012 07:06 (fourteen years ago)

I have seen recipes where you toss the cheese in cornstarch, and then bring the cheese and milk up to temperature together. I've never made it that way, so I can't say for sure. Maybe you didn't have quite enough milk?

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 January 2012 07:14 (fourteen years ago)

well the only way I strayed from the recipe was it called for heavy cream, but it also said if you use flour and whole milk it was suppose to work. I really wanted to make great queso from scratch for the boys, but I know they really wanted melted Velveeta.

JacobSanders, Sunday, 15 January 2012 07:23 (fourteen years ago)

But I'm sure the queso didn't ruin their night. It sounds like you did a great job otherwise! :D

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 January 2012 07:27 (fourteen years ago)

That's what Tera kept telling me, they are boys, they really don't care.

JacobSanders, Sunday, 15 January 2012 07:29 (fourteen years ago)

besides, why are you trying to give teenagers awesome homemade queso...save it for grownups who'll appreciate it :) (jokes...I think the attempt is absolutely worth it)

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 15 January 2012 07:39 (fourteen years ago)

Rollerderby + late night Thai food and booze!

blurgh (jjjusten), Sunday, 15 January 2012 08:07 (fourteen years ago)

The queso proved to be very tactile and entertaining. In order to eat it they had to figure out how to keep it from slipping off the chip but at the same time not taking the whole bowl of stringy queso with the chip. It became a game of skill leading to believe teens are still kids who like to play with their food. They loved it!
