tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

jbr: i was all settled in and ready to go to bed -- computer off, lights off, when i heard someone yelling "help! help!" several times outside

ckb: !!!!!!

ckb: yikes!

jbr: he was calling out for a really long time and someone else kept shouting "i'm here! where are you? where is your voice coming from?"

jbr: it sounded kinda far away

ckb: yeesh

jbr: so now i can't sleep

ckb: i don't blame you... i wouldn't be able to sleep after that

jbr: i hope the guy's ok

ckb: i do too, that's scary

jbr: i'm ok... i'm just a little rattled and i won't be going to sleep for a while

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm looking at pictures of phorid flies and it's NOT HELPING.

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Also known as Mausoleum flies. These flies breed in the most putrid of circumstances and are serious pest in all types of food handling facilities. They breed in cockroach cultures and infest dead specimens. They can grow to enormous numbers and be a considerable nuisance as they are attracted to the face and eyes.

"Foul-smelling, sticky brownish 'goo', oozing from a leaking mausoleum crypt. This substance consists of liquified decayed body parts, bodily fluids, and embalming chemicals. The volatile, acidic mixture corrodes through wooden, or even metal caskets- and then drips into the crypt itself, where it may leak into the public area."

I guess it's a good thing that AOL is too slow to load those images!

I can't sleep either. I've been up since 4am, which is early for me even by British time. I'm really missing my boyfriend, so I rang him, which was really stupid because he wasn't even really awake and just yawning on the phone which made me feel insecure and stupid. Ugh. Stupid jet lag.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The time change, predictably enough, made my insomnia worse. Or it seems worse because of what the clocks say.

Sleeping drugs do not work.

three weeks pass...
walked around with a friend, came back for chinese takeout, then had a really frustrating conversation about film which he tried to continue while i needed to work on my paper, then finally i wrote about five pretty good pages, now it's four in the morning and the train for london leaves at 9:30 crap.

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 30 April 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

burning the midnite oil working on my resume and various cover letters, as always i hate getting started on this stuff but have some fun once i am working. actually it's only fun if you think you have a reasonable stab at the jobs in question, which i believe i do.

I'm awake because the asshats below me decided to open the windows and doors on their apartment so I can hear their drunken ravings as they play cards and drink. Right now a drunk harpy is attempting to shriek along to Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs"

It's 5am and I want to drop a flower pot on each of their heads.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 29 August 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

donna (donna), Monday, 30 August 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a weird sleep, partially because I ate two soy dogs right before bed and partly because I always have trouble sleeping on Sunday nights. I had two, well, not nightmares, but oddly stressful dreams, one about waiting to see if my band was going to play a show or not and one where I was in a castle that was about to be stormed by Nazis and I had to figure out how to load and fire a pistol. Then when I woke up and tried to get back to sleep the dreams just kept running through my head, making my heart beat really fast.

n.a. (Nick A.), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Right now a drunk harpy is attempting to shriek along to Rod Stewart's "Hot Legs"

i ate too much rosemary chicken tonight.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd gotten dry sherry. I switched with the cream because I'm a flaming idiot.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:08 (twenty years ago)

Aw, G, in da cold looking at heater porn :( haha, but that made me laugh.

Well, the up side to this that I did a lot of good work today/tonight - but often when this happens I get all excited and do more work (and by "work" I mean creative work) - it's hard to come down from! Herbal tea will help, I hope. I have that heavy head feeling and all sound has a weird solidness to it.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:12 (twenty years ago)

My grandparents have this amazing heater from the mid-or-so sixties, really barbarically designed, it wobbles out these great waves of warm warm gorgeous warm air, it probably runs on petrol or something. POST YR 'BEING WARM' LITEROTICA HERE Y'ALL.

Yx-post I know the feeling R! I used to sit in bed with a cryptic crossword book and wait fr the world to stop.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:15 (twenty years ago)

ah, cryptic crossword... i should try that. maybe. yes, world must stop for 6-8 hours please. Now I'm pondering "being-warm literotica"! If anywhere is going to inspire it, it's gonna be Mtl! I remember when my former roommate bought the space heater. Life changed. that was the old place. I am alone and space-heaterless now. I haven't even put the plastic up on my windows yet! So I probably don't have a right to complain as I have dug my cold hole with the shovel of procrastination.
mmm, trying sleep now.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 07:34 (twenty years ago)

for the first time in ages managed to go to sleep before midnight last night cos i was so exhausted and woke up an hour later thinking it was morning. got back to sleep at 7am. had to leave for work at 8.30am.

this sucks. i've tried anti-histamines (don't work), valerian (doesn't work), herbal tea blah blah blah (obv doesn't work). i've made a doctor's appointment to beg for hardcore sleeping pills before i go insane.

ugh, my insomnia has finally lapped me around to trying to go to sleep at the time normal people begin waking. This is not helping with my bad money situation and it is really starting to get to me. I am really upset that my girlfriend keeps on getting up to check on me in the living room.

Being on the internet is about the worst thing you can do if you have insomnia, you should go read a book or something.

JorL, Monday, 2 January 2006 12:14 (twenty years ago)

I'm not going to sleep this morning though (it is 7:20am here). I want to pass out tonight at like 10 pm and sleep till like 10 am.

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Monday, 2 January 2006 12:21 (twenty years ago)

xpost. Bollocks. It helps me. An hour on the net makes me sleepy again. The worst thing is actually reading a book in your bed. You should get out of bed and do stuff.

I wake up because the baby moves around and/or I'm terribly nervous about my impending delivery. I didn'thave much sleep the last few weeks. :-(

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Monday, 2 January 2006 13:11 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I'm trying to re-train myself to be on a different sleep schedule and failing miserably. I went to bed at 2 am, woke up at 5 am and can't seem to fall back asleep. And here I am . . . making "to do" lists and writing people and posting to ILE . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 2 January 2006 15:03 (twenty years ago)

I haven't had a proper night's sleep for about two months. I thought being off work would help but the last few nights I've been going to bed at about midnight, falling asleep, waking up about two hours later, not getting back to sleep, get out of bed so as not to disturb the mister, read/do sudoku puzzles/dick around on the internet, then end up being knackered. Have a brief nap through the day, feel shit and tired, go to bed, can't sleep...repeat until brain collapses.

I now have a prescription for sleeping tablets though, but can't pick up from chemist until tomorrow.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 2 January 2006 15:32 (twenty years ago)

i can't sleep, either. i guess it's accidentally still being on midwest time, staying up too late when i got back from xmas. sigh. i'm sure there's lots of fun things to do in london at 3.38am, but i'm not sure i know where to find them (or really want to).

i havent had a good nights sleep in three months. the other nght i fell asleep at 500 am eating macadamia nuts in my bed. i dont know if its the crappy cot i am sleeping on , the lack of girlfriend in the bed, or being stuck on 'umemployment hours' ie:going to bed at dawn/whenever i feel like it. when i get paid the first thing i am gettign is a giant bottle of melatonin, its worked from me in the past.

PAINFUL CRISPS would probably help get you into the D&D group.
haha, I have no Foucault-related anecdotes today. I wrote a bit about the Olympics at http://www.midnightpoutine.ca in lieu of actual events in my life. Seriously, today I watched Olympics, read, went to the gym, wrote, and then went for awesome dinner at a friend's. Okay, those are events. Not medal-contending events, but hey. Yesterday I went swimming and then sneezed for 6 hours b/c of, like, chlorine inflammation. WWFS (what would foucault say)? I worry about what my guesses.

I can't remember what Foucault would say about anything! September 2007 cannot come soon enough, really. I liked the poutine piece, GET IN.

x-post cheers! sleep well R!

I get insomnia like once a year. Tonight is the night. Went to bed at 11, woke up at 2:40 or so after having a weird "Lost" related dream. I can't imagine having this happen all the time, it would seriously fuck me up.

one year passes...
pls tell me of your experiences with melatonin.

I can't get a good night's sleep to save my life. I wake easily and then find it nearly impossible to go back to sleep. I take three different pyscotropic meds now and don't really want to add any more. But I'm also kind of worried about adding health food stuff in the mix.

anybody ever have trouble with it?

I don't think melatonin's effect will matter compared to three psychotropic meds. Not only is it relatively mild, I actually take it to wake up earlier, not so much to keep sleeping. Makes me wake up with the sunrise (as opposed to the usual ungodly hour..)

I think I will try it. My main sleep aid now is half a klonipin but that's not a long term solution.

I like waking up early but would like to be able to sleep at least a 7 solid hours before then.
