Right Stevem stop pussyfooting and organise something.

One Tun, Goodge Street, from after work until the pub closes. I don't know what time the quiz starts, someone who's actually been will have to tell you that. Surely the combined branes of ILE could obliterate all competition?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

is this going to be a huge big ilx team or is it going to involve splitting into two teams as in like "ilx:the rivals"?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Either is good. Although last time we had competing teams my team came bottom of the ILX pile :(

Also the One Tun is a marvellous little boozer and worth a visit even if you're not quizzing it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for this!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies. YES!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm in.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. I like quiz.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

possibly, not sure yet, I shouldn't really though as I'm poor

chris (chris), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You might win some money Chris!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be there, if not on the ale.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't remember if its cash prize or not

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i should really phone them and check the quiz is definitely on also

sideshow stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, absolutely...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never participated in a pub quiz in my life. As I know nothing, this is probably understandable.

Phoebe Dinsmore, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i suggest at least two separate teams to spice up proceedings

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

unfortunately I won't be able to make this :(

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

but if we have two teams it's going to be like grade-school sports and i'll be the last to get picked after admitting i generally suck at UK trivia quizzes! maybe phoebe will get picked after me, actually, so that's ok.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they serve beer in these so-called "public houses"?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think its more likely to be based on who you're drinking beer with at the exact time the team sheets are handed out ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, count me in. I'll suck since I'm a UK newbie, but whatever team I'm on will CLEAN UP once those Canadian-related questions start rollin' in...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

So I guess it's cheating if I bring my wi-fi laptop and Google everything, right?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

shoot, i might not be able to come after all. the 'grown ups' dean group in london is doing a concert of some kind that i should go to support. oh well, maybe i can do both.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Could well be in, along with Daniel (dancity) - together we are the 3-time reigning champs at the Social's monthly quiz !

darren (darren), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll see what my shifts are doing.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i will bring my uni challenge superskills (though not the zebra hair).

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Even though it makes me a mentalist I'm going to pretend that this FAP is really in honour of my birthday.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

toby's talk of zebra hair has inpired me to bring a 'gonk'

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Sign me up (NB a team of Caitlin & I once got 100% in a pub quiz)

(but I've lost it completely since then)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to know when it starts - I am having dinner with a cousin that evening, but she normally wants to get home reasonably early so I may still come along, albeit not too early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

the zebra hair)

NOOOOOOOOOO! NEVER!

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 22 January 2004 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

BUMP!

Toby said

I will bring rubbish Universally Challenged skeelz, but sadly no zebra hair. Which will please Anna? Anyway, see you chaps tomorrow.

p.s. I am kind of lurking here, don't particularly want to get fired again.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 26 January 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

see for some reason when i saw this thread title last week i thought that 27th of january was like a month ago or something, because i am a menko.

i supose i could toddle along :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

toby (tsg20), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My Marx reading group has been rescheduled for next week, therefore I shall show up to this.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 26 January 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

ah that makes sense, thanks steve.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

And Brannigans for all

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(i was afeared that liz hadn't closed her italic tag, so i went and had a look at the source)

so can we have a team made up solely of ex-UC contestants?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, there's at least three of us.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm applying for this year.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Your intellectual weight* ph34rs m3, I might have to stick to drinking bouze instead of answering questions wrongly to grebt derision. I've watched University Challenge though! COME ON JESUS COLLEGE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

*hahahahaha yeah!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I may come, if finances allow

chris (chris), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Was that finances or fiancees?

Pete (Pete), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

blimey, if only it was a quipping competition...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

which reminds me:

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

we need Team Names NOW - i can never think of a good one on the spot

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't you phone ahead and ask them...

StatingthebleedingobviousSmile (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't you.....phone ahead and ask them...

damn

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be there...

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

what did we have at the swimmer, Team Cheburashka was it? she couldnt say it, when read out

gareth (gareth), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the name for stevem's team is becoming increasingly obvious...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Wanking Fodder?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

does that mean all the girls are on steve's team?

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

What, again?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not interested in girls who play for the other team

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

did i say 'not interested in'? i meant 'fascinated by'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe we fought in the [...] wars for this.

creepy! (starry), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Robot?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

'Robot?' would actually be a great team name - empthasis on the question mark. I like the idea of the team name being a question.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

plus it ties in with T.A.T.U. so all your bases are belong to covered

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"What is the average length of a stoat?" should be our team name. Someone might even attempt to answer it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

But the thing is we haven't fought in the Robot Wars, and there might be people there that have, and they may have brought their robots along, and as such we may end up being battered with axes.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

It's ok Swiggit, I have a flamethrower attachment (or at least I will do after pre-boozer CURRY har har har).

Sarah (starry), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

we call her The Starry Searer!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but then they'd bore us about how flamethrowers are not legal weapons under UK Robot Wars rules (with exception of Sgt. Bash, as he is operated by trained professionals or something).

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"The second rule of robot club is you DO NOT!!! talk about... oh hold on... The second rule is... no smoking".
"Why can't we smoke?"
"Shhh we're not supposed to talk about it".

the first rule of robot club is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT ROBOT CLUB (starry), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm being away from ILX makes meyou forget all HTML. Either that or I was being all Zen. Sorry to confuse, Toby.

Aaaargh will this day never end?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently i have to go and see two flats tomorrow night, BUT this is at 5.30ish, so no doubt i'll need a steadying beer after, it's just whether i can be arsed to come back in to town...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

where are these flats steve?

chris (chris), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Laah Derrr Laaah Derrrr

just in case anyone is now scared of the quiz night and wants to see free music instead...

http://www.deanforamerica.org.uk/howard_dean_UK_events.shtml#urban

this is where i'll be tomorrow. i might slip away and join you guys later, but it might be good fun so i'm not making any promises.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Dean is soooooo 2003.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Free to US citizens, how much for the rest of us?

Pete (Pete), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i see DJ Bighands will be playing!

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Same old septics. Making sure that they're free makes prisoners and paupers of us all.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I would still like to know when the quiz is. Why has Syevem not phoned them to find out? I may well be along, but I will not be at all early.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem says that the quiz WILL have questions and points, but he forgot to ask if there would be a quizmaster or pencils.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't need to phone them because i already know

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, I'm out of this. Babysitting the family while mum is off being told about how to not get angry at her class.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I WANT TO GO TO THE FAP!!!

::sulks::

the river fleet, Monday, 26 January 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I can come really, I have an important off-site meeting tomorrow morning.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm, i have to be up at stupid o'clock tomorrow morning to do an update to our record system, so i might give this a miss.

houses tonight are in m's manor, on the ladderladder

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris, who do you work for? (Sorry I forget) I am going to an out of office presentation tomorrow and it's about ice cream and frozen food.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

FREE SAMPLE AGOGO!!!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i should still be coming, will be there around 7.30 I think

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

errr. people who make exactly that Anna. Where is yr meeting?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Will anyone be there at normal post-work times?! (And do they fancy a curry?)

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

That is a very good question.

(Have just looked)

Bloody hell! It's in Walton-on-Thames!

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey. Walton on Thames. I've seen Walton casuals play twice this season, you know.

I'll be at the One Tun about 7 this evening, I guess. We're going to need about 15 teams at this rate.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark -where is it?

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

If things go okay I'm grabbing a film before I make it for about 7:30. If things don't go quite okay I might be up for ED curry.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna, it's probably about half an hour from Waterloo on the big trains. It's in Surrey, near Weybridge.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ED curry mmmm.

Ricardo (RickyT), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like you're going to Un!lever to me. nothing to do with us though.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Where curry? Otherwise it'll be browsing expensive stationery in Paperchase and Kolonel's Filthy Chicken for me. Mmmm if KFC did curry, just how nasty would it be?

Hurray working off Russell Square means I can get to the pub locale really quickly. I'm glad it's not in Walton on Thames.

Would not ice-cream from Unilever be toilet-cleaner flavour?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

no it would be the stuff named after two lovable hippies, let's keep this googleproof shall we?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I too have been troubled by the breadth of Un!l3v3r's product range - jacks of all trades ect ect.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I was toying with a Malaysian ChiXor Curry at the Hairy Tortoise in the Brunswick Centre. But only if I can't get to see The Palm Beach Story at Kings.

Where are you working Liz?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I am, I couldn't remember if you worked there or not. (Yes, lovable hippies who like the Dead it is)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Their share price has suffered lately. My best mate works at their big rivals, Proct3r & G4mble, so I have a natural anti-Unilever disposition. Taking sidea between conglomerates - it's tribalism gone mad!!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

nope, I'm at G3n3ral m!ll$

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Proct3r always makes me think of proctology.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to look round the cheapo curry houses round Goodge St way at lunchtime and was planning on Reporting Back with advice after lunch! If I don't find anywhere particularly tempting I could try the Brunswick Centre place, although I really do fancy a good old straight forwards cuzza IIDSSM. WITH BITS OF CHICKEN AND SAMOSAS AND POPPADUMS and can you tell I haven't had much curry recently eh?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

G4mble always makes me think of my old man

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I really do fancy a good old straight forwards cuzza IIDSSM.

can someone translate this for me please?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Curry sounds good. I shouldn't really be coming out as I have stupid amount of stuff to do by the weekend. But whuddaya gonna do?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"I would like a chicken curry with no fancy bits If I Do Say So Myself" :)

cuzza = posh for curry!!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

posh curry = curray

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know, these young people with their fancy lingo, it were all gracie fields round here when i were a lad etc...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what I thought too stevem! But it turns out they are nouveau riche. The REAL posh yars say CUZZA and 3000x cheers for the brave old families of Englande eh?!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

it's like Snoop Doggett-Doggington all over again. for shuzza my nuzza.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmmm currizle and rizzle. Err I'm currently (working) at thee BRANE HOSTIPAL on Queen Sq. So the Brunswycke Centre would be most handy for yours truly. But as always, pre-curry Paperchase porn is acceptable.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Meaning cheapo Goodge Street is good. Cheapo is always good. Cheap 'ho' is better. But not on Goodge Street.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, twenty yards from La Porchetta!!!
My Mum went to that hospital. The National Hospital FOr Neurological Diseases. Has a nice chapel.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah mate, we don't mention the d*s*a*e word these days - it's N3urology & N3ur0surgery now. Eek I'm inside a Wm Gibson nitemare.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

you lobotomised anyone yet?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha yes they let me loose with a bone drill and a laser scalpel on my first afternoon as a treat.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha yes they let me loose with a bone drill

heh heh, did they now? ;)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

oh dear, tom, please delete ken...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, cuzza expedition at lunch and personal recommendation too (coo!) suggests the Palms of Goa on Charlotte St, who is UP FOR THAT at sixish? Num num. They even have pumpking cuzza!!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

POG is grebt. Palm Beach Story vs curry. Hmmmmm.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hard choice eh Pete? :)

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, try Rasa Express on Euston Road btwn Warren Street and GPS tube, or the little take-away on Charlotte Street. There are also amazing dosas at Ragam on Cleveland Street.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn. Would've loved to come to this, pub quiz bore in extremis that I am, but sadly I'm interviewing cLOUDDEAD then off to see The Features in Caaamden. Pick a day when I'm free next time please!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been sent masses of really weird sweets: swizzle skulls with red jelly oozing through the eyes; candy earwax in a plastic ear with a plastic cotton bud to use as a dipper; light up lollypops; pens that squirt flavoured juice and more.

I shall bring many samples to the pub.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

wow you must've felt like a kid in some kind of store

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, that sounds great! I like the cotton bud one speshly!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i went to the raza express once but they were pretty horrible! Microwaved packed curries not microwaved properly!!

Better choice is to walk further up to drummond st. (off hampstead road) for a choice of curryrama - they all seem to be vegetarians though. Chutney's do a 5.95 all you can eat lunch!! And Bengal House do a similar (but nicer) microwaved affair.

OR the Indian YMCA for a no thrills, cheap and cheerful but NICE curry in a place that looks like the canteen of a youth hostel.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, enough already with the choices - I'm a Libra and thus by law am not allowed to choose things ever. So I say Follow The Starry - she has been to have a squiz around today, thus proving it by science. Palm of Goa, roight? Where on Charlotte Street is this jewel of perfection?

I'm terribly excited by Anna's wacky gory sweeties. Do we get them as prizes if we answer questions correctly?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Liz, I have so many it's ridiculous. Free wacky gory sweets for all!

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Woohoo! I have given up on tarting up consultant's overlong CVs, and now crave sugar (and curry) rush!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

great call on the Indian YMCA Ken, that's a winner.

You could also go to the Punkum for the amazing Iced coffee.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Parrrms of Goa down the top end of Charlotte Street - closest end to Oxford St. The one opposite the pink one :) Called the Palms of Goa. 2 minutes from the pub too hurrah unlike the other ones round Euston eh kids?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

oh to live in london! *sigh*

Pinkone (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Come and visit us! Everyone should come and visit us!

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

That's the bottom end of Charlotte Street, Starry. The world goes DOWN to Oxford Street from Euston Rd. I kind of slide sideways, and that's only on a good day.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaaah but that's not what I read on the toilet walls... aaaaaaah... "top" as in "best" end, obv. Ahem. Although I do want to try some of the peculiar caffs at "the other" end and only poverty and ph34r prevents me from doing thus.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

did we go to the Palms Of Goa on the night of the first NedFAP back in OCtober? I didn't really enjoy what I had (just cos it was too hot for me I guess) - didn't recognise a lot on the menu because I am a curry philistine (two more lamb bhunas here...)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't there dude, but the person who recommended this place to me doesn't really like hot curries either so I can't imagine it's a place which only serves +71 chilli rated dishes. I like the look of the Goan specialities lotsa lotsa.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

You're not just having a FAP, you're having a FAP IN MY BLOODY NEIGHBOURHOOD and I can't come. I wanna cry.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

so what's the earliest anyone's going to be in the pub?!

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

NEVER!!! HOW ABOUT FREAKING NEVER!!!

This thread makes me feel invisible so I'll just carry on being invisible, forever and ever amen, blah blah, why do I even carry on typing?

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Awww Ms Fleet. *hugs*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Invisible hugs!!!

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

wtf?!

Change the colour! (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, that was mean, I didn't mean to catch you in my web of invisibity, Pink.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure if you try hard enough, wish upon a star, believe in fairies and all that jazz, we might, just might end up going to the pub again Kate :)

I shall also take this post as an occasion to point out that I shall be off the old shandy bouze tonight. (Ok maybe ONE shandy bouze).

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

just to answer a question that someone asked yesterday about the dean thing...it's free to all. she was just trying to encourage americans or something. but anyone can come.

isn't that more fun than silly ole pub quiz? you can register to vote...there's, um, djs and stuff. right.

so maybe i'll come to the pub later.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The hell with this going to the pub thing. I've got diamonds, I mean RARE BAUHAUS TWELVE INCH SINGLES to hunt for.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, I'll forgive you for making me invisible if you give me a diamond! (then i can use it for my engagement ring! Do you see? That would save is plenty cash!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I lost my engagement ring :( :(

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no!!! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

So what time are people going to get to the pub?

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

why are people so afraid of getting there before anyone else does?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

coz they ph34r they'll be accosted by menkos?

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Because they have shitloads to do at work and can't really leave until midnight in truth, but wish to leave in enough time to get there and have some fun. However, they wish to know what time people arrive in order that they don't leave work and find they are the only one there, as this would prompt a fit of rage that would make D-Fens look like a lily-livered liberal.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess after cuzza at 6, so, probably 7. You could always come for cuzza though Davey/Tobey.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Curry is a good enough reason to leave work before you get there in the morning, surely.

And what the heck is a menko?

I haf just finished reading a book (well, e-text) about PIRATES. Apropos of nowt.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

my engagement ring is all shiny and smooth again, cos I got it recoated at the jewellers. It's like having a new ring again!

I'm not coming out tonight, either, got to save my money for buying thermals and sensible shoes so I can face the snow at the weekend.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there from about six, six-thirty. I have no fear of being alone. (Or even quirkyalone)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

That's because you have the good sweets Anna! Ppl will always love you! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I shall rule the pub with sugar! Fear my e numbers and glycerine!

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

mmm, e-numbers...

must

get

sleep

also must not update system with hangover, as that's when THE BAD THINGS happen...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, no-one will put my video on for me so I'm missing the free film at Kings. Boo.
So I will make curry. Yay!

See you at Goa at six.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i made extra sandwiches this morning for my dinner so i'll give the curry a miss.

i'll be there sometime between 5:30-6:30 i guess. basically as soon as i get bored of galois cohomology (which i have been avoiding since 2pm but am about to sit down to).

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Shouldn't you have left by now then Pete?
damn -xpost

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

4:30 then.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to have to duck out I'm afraid... I've been ill in bed all day and although I'm feeling kind of better now, that might just be the drugs. And I think an evening in the pub could ruin the rest of my week.

I might change my mind in the next two hours, but its not looking likely.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw g'wan, curry is good for you.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

it feels like only about 6 people are coming now

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Curry cures all ailments*, proven by a Which? study in 1999.

(Except explosive dihorrea which it exacerbates).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Team name: Number of people who hit on Anna before other ILXors turned up is...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Moving to London

Cons: $£$£$£

Pros: Might go to FAP

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still going, as is Sarah - we'll see you in the pub, those of you who'll be there, at about 7 ish.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Enrique - where are you?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Oxford vs Cambridge FITE!!!!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

*gasps*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink -- fair dos, not that far away (oxford), but i have a sort of informal and humorous (mostly) 'london allowance,' with her indoors, ie i go to london too often really and three times this week wd be too much (ie i'm often at the cinema).

pete -- i've lived in both, and i say... actually, i dunno any more.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, no i wasn't being funny, I just knew that you had lived in Cambridge & I couldn't remember where you were now!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Cambridge, I'm coming round to it, actually. Bit colder, but... ech, you gotta hand it to them.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Cambridge rocks, you know it, you miss it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

So so quick hands up so I know who I'm waiting for with curry? Me RickyT Pete an Liz? Anyone else?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

No thanks Sarah, I'm not really in a curry mood.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

right i'm off to the pub in a sec, the thought of a pint & reading my book is winning over maths. see you all soon...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I am still at home and have just woken up again, feeling crap. I'm going to sit at home and drink tea and watch Tony Blairs get taken down all the way to Chinatown and enjoy the consolation that even if I can't FAP at least this thread made Liz start posting again - RAH!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, it's kicking out time right about now, innit?

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mr dc.

sweet cred! sweet cred! sweet cred!

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 07:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I am glad I came out if only to bask in the warm glow of victory and terrifying sugary products.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Victory AND second place, don't forget.

One word for today - HUNGOVER. Did anyone get off with the American girl Colette adopted?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

SteveM to thread!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

*gasps*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeeeees, I think we need to hear from Mr M. Bwahahahaha! Did he show her his etchings?

Urrgh my head is nasty. I think this has more to do with the aspartame spray light-up pen thingies and the horrifying bleeding-eyes sugar skulls than the beer.

Second place added £20 to the total winnings, so you can quit being a triumphalist grump, Mark. As Chirac would say - a victory for one ILE team is a victory for all Europe! I am bitter

Back to lurking. You ain't seen me, right?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

More about the sweets please? i am so jealous

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The sweets were clearly in league with satan. Especially the sinister dolls.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

sinister's always been in league with satan.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Sweets to be found around the table:

Multicoloured swirly lollies with vaguely sinister Edwardian doll attached for no reason.

Pink sugary skulls on top of a tube that when you push down they bleeed sugary red stuff from the eyes and mouth.

Flashing red electric candysticks (these actually r0x0red)

Weird tangy mouthspray things.

Pink plastic ears with (I shit you not) gelatinous earwax you eat with a sugary cotton bud.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, the pens that both lit up and had squirty sour aspartame filth come out of the top - they're neat but even I had to admit after the novelty wore off that they were pretty disgusting. The wrist-worn sweet was pretty cool and very generous - Dave B and I tried sucking our wrists for a while but you had to be careful not to touch them to anything, especially not clothes. The bleeding skull was absolutely foul, meta-raspberry flavouredthat had you seeing double after a couple of tastes. The ice cream cones with a sugary sherbert dip were a success. The ears were a poor sweet really, only good for shock value.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

TIME MACHINES!

Wrist worn sweets = vile tumours.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I want sweets! *stamps foot*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't want these sweets, trust me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Trust Matt.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha Dave was so excited by his cola-flavoured strap-on tumour (B0yl3's Boil DO YOU SEE), but the wrist-gnawing actoin required to get anything out of it was rather distressing.

I just remembered that I drank an entire rum and coke in about 45 seconds while we were being chucked out. I blame Starry.

I have a mouth spray thing in my desk draw right now and am going to use it to take notes if a consultant asks me to do anything today. With the light on.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Where is Pete? I want to rub his nose in the Sweet Cred victory

Liz don't forget the smug expression for when you are writing with said pen/spray hybrid

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha Liz did not my look of GOBSMACKED TERROR as you downed the drink give you a hint? (I am sorry it may have started off as terror and then turned into incredulity). Grebt stuff.

ALTHOUGH bloody hell, this not bouzing lark (the second prize celebration whisky maccc not withstanding) is bad for me - I couldn't get to sleep until 2-3am! What are they PUTTING in pub coca cola these days?! I can't even blame the sweets either, for despite getting a little too fond of the glo-sticks and lightp pengs, I failed to sample their wares.

Good night innit!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah they Coke I gave you at 11.10 had Jack Daniels in it, innit

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

To all people on team Sweet Cred (oh that will be half the pub then), £20 round 6 people vs £30 on THE REST OF LONDON means I consider The Lady QC's to be the spiritual winners :)

UGH THOSE BLEEDING EYE THINGS they are probably what kept me awake, straight outta Lovecraft.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha!! Liz - that was JD & coke you were drinking then :)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you had 8 and we had 11, Starry.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Ouch. Head hurts. Have catarrh. Ate a burger with meat last night. 's all gone wrong. Wrist sweet is on balance a bad thing. I looked at it today with the embarrassment of a drunken one-night stand with someone you shouldn't have.*

* This is a set up line...

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

...me? (RAPTUROUS LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE FROM LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE)

Sweet Cred: Toby, Anna, me, cis (missed first few rounds), 'Opkins, Tico, Mark C, Ricky T, Alix - with Martin and Matt DC attaching also joining in a few rounds down

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I was there from the first round, you lying scrote.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah don't listen to that Sweet Cred team they are obviously to whooped up on sugar (still) to know sense.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Can stevem be trusted here then?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna's little sugar fueled dance was particularly good.

Stevem can't be trusted ANYWHERE.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry Matt, lost track of time

Sarah we are high on VICTORY and nothing else

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i had a good time even though i was only there for the end of it and had nothing to do with the quiz winnings.

since jim and i were still looking for fun after the quiz (because we spent the first 2/3 of the night waiting for the fun to start) we went to a bar and then when we got out IT WAS SNOWING and so so pretty. then we went for a meal and it was only snowing a little when we came out. and yes, i'm pretty hungover today.

i haven't had an email from that girl yet. i still haven't decided if she was very nice and it was just a weird situation or if she was crazy. or maybe both.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm slowly coming to the opinion that turning up mob-handed and taking both the main prizes is, in fact, not sporting or fair. a group of 5 or 6 perhaps, but not half a pub's worth.

was a good night though :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes I agree. I wish we had come third like I thought we would.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

On reflection, I think Mr Steve is correct.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That said, the landlord was keen on us returning. Maybe we should always do it in different pubs, consider us some form of pub justice which comes and unsettles the usual cosy winning routine of the quiz pros that every regular team has.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The League Of Extraordinary Quizees?

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I pondered that too Steve, in my HOURS of trying to get to sleep. But I soothed myself with the fact I answered bugger all questions so I was more of a keen observatrice anyway :)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

or start the ILX pub quiz league where we have set teams and then hire a pub room once every now and again and just do it ourselves...

...or is that the height of arrogance?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the height of pointlessness - it would quickly become clear who the best set teams were and everyone else would rapidly lose interest.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Q1: According to Hymn - The Only Way on Tarkus, how many Jews did God "lose".

Sounds like I missed lots of fun. Still, I got to stand next to Steve Lamacq, howyoulikemenow?

Might I suggest a tuesday night at The Approach in Bethnal Green next time?

Why? Cos it's a lovely boozer very near the station, with very good beer and a decent quiz.

(nothing to do with the fact that it's opposite my house, oh no)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The tube being Bethnal Green though. Pah, East London nonsense.

(May I suggest The City Of Paris, just over the road from The Approach and hard as nailz).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am unclear what is wrong with our turning up at pub quizzes and forming as many teams as the layout or quiz limits suggest - I dopn't suppose we'll grab all the top places every time we do this, but even if we did, unless someone had some wireless-access laptop I didn't notice we only won because we knew more answers.

I've now taken part in a whole two pub quizzes, and have a 100% record. I think I have a grasp of the key winning tactic now - be on the same team as Tom. If you can have Tim too, you're set.

If we have an ILX pub quiz thing at all, it should not be fixed teams, I think - partly because not everyone can make every such FAP, and partly so that we get some different competition. I guess there are demarcation issues here with Pete, who I know has run loads, but I'd be happy to try running one or two, having written something like 1000 questions a couple of years back in the following categories: music, TV, literature, films, art. (There is a comics set too, but they'd be too difficult for you lot, unless Al or Andrew L were there anyway.) I think those are mostly good areas to pitch to ILXers, and they are tough enough that no one would be getting 100%. Anyone fancy it? If we don't get anything going, I might nonetheless include this in my birthday FAP, assuming I have one, in June.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

This is all sounding a bit like the dreaded Organised Fun for my liking.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, revision of original plan, set teams of crack ILX0rs descend on pub quizzes and then report their exploits here, team with most wins out of quizzes done gets to call themselves bertie bigbollocks...

x-post with martin. yes you are right that we got more questions right than everyone else, but it still seems unfair when there were 20 of us, it just seems a bit like taking the piss to me...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

as long as there is more fun than organising that's fine

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Sweet Cred could've had only half the amount of people and still won - depends which people perhaps (i myself was rubbish and probably didn't know over two thirds of the questions)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

That's kind of the deal with quizzes, Matt. And karaoke, and football matches, etc. etc. Even going to the pub is organised as stevem has to phone ahead to make sure they have tables, toilets, ceilings and the like.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It would be nice to hear from her and see who she ends up doing.

Not colette (daveb), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

::seethes with jealousy at the good time wot was had without me::

Well, you know what? Screw you guys, I'm going to a NYC FAP!!! So there! We're going to eat barbeque and drink all night coz the bars stay open till 4am nyeah nyeah nyeah I don't need yer stupid pub quizzes and candy and random Americans and if they treat me better I'm moving back to NYC for ever and ever and oh wait, regime change and all that, sigh, mutter mutter, grrrrrr.

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you imagine her after the sugar hit??!!! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

if we have an ILX pub quiz thing at all, it should not be fixed teams, I think - partly because not everyone can make every such FAP.

that's not necessarily a bad thing though - it gives an extra incentive for people to turn up, and also, if your team isn't as knowledgeable as some of the others then you can even up the odds a bit for the fact by making sure you have a full team each time.

a 5 a-side football league sounds a lot more fun though.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

the best bit from last night was when Sonic Boom walked in with a load of his dirty dronerock mates, I overheard them talking about where they could buy some oscillators and how frustrated they were about never being able to find girls who understood them. One of them complimented me on my barnet, then they tried to listen in our quiz answering but ha ha we still won.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, are you jealous because we had a fun night or because stevem got set up with a cute girl?

and "It would be nice to hear from her and see who she ends up doing. "

yeah, i thought of that, too. i just didn't want to make steve blush any more than he already is...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Jealous of the fun night. (If Stevem gets a girlfriend, it will actually be somewhat of a relief!) But like I said, I'm going to a FAP in Queens, so nyeah neayh. And I *AM* going to a Northampton Dirty Dronerock FAP with Sonic Boom the day after I get back so double nyeah nyeah.

Why, 1ynch-B3ll, I'll get you for that, mutter mutter mutter...

(HOnestly, my mum has no idea what my social life in London is like. Random Internet lunatic? Wa-hey! Let's go to Spain! Or perhaps she thinks that English stalkers are going to be more polite than American ones. Hrmmm.)

the river fleet, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry about stepping on my toes Martin. I don't own the patent for quizes. Or indeed any of the wonderful foodstuff in Sweet Cred's extensive line-up.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

shame. you could make a killing.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Street Cred website misses the suckable lightsabre which RoXors my world.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"suckable lightsabre" = what a redneck jedi tells his girlfriend/sister is in his pants.

I evidently have no dirty dronerock radar function. Dang, I knew I should have paid out for the extras.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I linger at this thing like a mysterious ghost?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

about the 'it's too organised' thing: won't this die a natural death eventually? i've seen stuff like this happen where a group gets really excited and says 'yeah, let's do this every week/month/whatever' and goes two or three times and then everyone stops. which is an ok thing. i'd be ok to go to several more quizzes, especially if i could make it in time to contribute.

people get bored with this kind of routine. except the cheese. five years after starting, still every thursday...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the big teams thing is just a function of their not setting team limits and there being no room to spread out. We were restricted to 4 on a team at the previous quiz, and got the first three places there. I suspect a T*m team of two could have probably won last night's quiz had they been our only attendees.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Whilst I like quizzes occassionally, I would prefer just to go to the pub and get drunk.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I would rather just meet in the pub more often than not. Quizzes (and karaoke) make a nice change occasionally, but I wouldn't want them taking over.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

has there ever been a bingo FAP? the bingo place near my house has a big sign advertising free bingo on tuesdays. i've always wanted to try this out, but haven't been brave enough yet...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, maybe it's time to quash the stereotypes and yell 'HOUSE!' in an entirely different context

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And you can set Stevem up with one of the old dears!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i have no idea what the demographic of this place is. i've never seen anyone come in or out. it's like willy wonka's factory. but, i'm guessing, without all the chocolate inside.

i'm sure there's a lady in there that would love stevem, though. although they might think his hair is too long and he looks like a young whippersnapper.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 29 January 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously when Colette turned up with a hot young woman I didn't dream of trying to compete with the likes of stevem, but if we are talking old women, I want fixing up!

Can we do this when Ronan is here next? I want to see him shouting 'house' and waving a glowstick.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"four to the floor - 44!"

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

if someone gets all but one of the numbers i dare them to call out 'microhouse!'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Clickety-click house!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

two fat ladies...over there

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

my friends joined an old lady bingo club in camden and went a few times before the novelty wore off. i can ask for the details, if people are really interested.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

''Obviously when Colette turned up with a hot young woman I didn't dream of trying to compete with the likes of stevem''

its tough competing with the hair martin.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

And everything else!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

If that hair carries on at the way its going, there won't be an anything else fairly shortly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the hair.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a picket line outside my house - placards clearly revealing intense disapproval of the proposed '5 and a half inch sacrifice'

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, Kate's got skills to do all that from Vermont. (Or do any of the placards say Generation Dean on the back?)

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

more like a conspiracy of three...

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, i never said you couldn't get your hair cut! i actually told you where you could get it cut and suggested a sideburn trim!

lauren, if you could find out what the deal is with the bingo, that would be cool! i don't think it would be something i want to do all the time, but once in a while, i can imagine that it's fun.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"suckable lightsabre" = what a redneck jedi tells his girlfriend/sister is in his pants.

I'll give you a Jedi night to remember, honey.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 30 January 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused. What am I supposed to have done now? Prevent Stevem from getting a haircut? I can't even prevent my own boyfriend from getting a haircut! Sheesh!

Last time, he said he was "going out for a walk" but I went out a few minutes after him, and just happened to be going down Great Russell Street, and as I passed the #5 haircutting place, I thought "That nose looks familiar..." and then rushed in crying "Stop! Stop!" and dragged him out of the barbers chair before they could even mousse him.

It just isn't fair. Where is a serious lad who aims bowlcut?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

that man's tshirt says _____ up my _____. Intriguing.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

colette, i just sent an email asking for the info about b-i-n-g-o.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

is it possible to read that without hearing a teacher/camp counselor's voice 'and bingo was his name-o' after?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

no.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I read it to the tune of d-i-s-c-o

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

*sheepishness*

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I did too. Colette, were you smoochin' Matt DC?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too. Now the song is going through my head.

Irresistable (daveb), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, i just started a new topic, so bingo discussions should now be moved there.

except we'll leave matt here, if you don't mind...

(i'm walking to the bingo thread singing 'disco queen')

[xpost-- in real life or in the dream that i wrote about?]

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That is completely the wrong sort of bowl for bowl cutting. In fact, it isn't a bowl at all, it is a Macaroni-Stop-Water-Go-Through.

The River Kate (kate), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Or as we call them, 'colander'.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

ha! mark, your attempt to create scandal has failed miserably.

or was that a matchmaking attempt? hmm? HMMM?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, you have a boyfriend. Even if he is gay.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i was just trying to be like you. but i can't call you emma, because you're a boy. that's all.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark is the leading expert on boyfriends being taken to be gay.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 30 January 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh hush, darling.
