I am stunned not be able to find the scripts to Yes Minister on the interweb. What is going on?

A thread to share frustration or possibly help each other...

That painting of James Mason with the Siamese Cat.

I feel very proud of myself because I googled something online which my mother could not find! i.e. information related to the Priory of Sion which was not in response to The DaVinci Code.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 23 January 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Tesco was a let down :( It was one of those metro stores and I ended up having to trek all the way to Sainsbury's instead. I shall look for your scripts, it looks intially promising...but that's sometimes not a good sign.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think they are online. The yes-minister website has a FAQ asking for them. There is a book on Amazon.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 January 2004 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what I found too :(

Thanks though!

2" square thermometer fridge magnets w/ U.S. state/city themes. Kitsch whimsy infected by collector tendencies. Thought they'd be easy to find in airport lounges by travelling friends, but not so lucky, and have only located a few online.

Would have said a Japanese only Hal Hartley tribute cd comp, but I got a good lead this week.

an explaination of how cranes are constructed, without having a crane in the first place??! How do they go so tall?
http://www.pre-engineering.com/resources/images/cranes/counter.jpg

ken c (ken c), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You do indeed use a crane to build cranes.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

so how does the first one get built??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 26 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Noooooooooooo! Not the crane debate again, please! I'll go mental, I swear.

First crane is mobile, built elsewhere and erected using hydraulics, pulleys an' that. First crane then used to build/erect second crane, at which point first crane says its goodbyes and buggers off, leaving second crane to erect as many more cranes as it damn well fancies.

Grrr.

Leee Majors (Leee), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The last time this question came up, in a context I now forget, I had just tried looking up a series of records that I can never find anymore anywhere ("Desperate Rock 'n Roll" rockabilly compilations, released on Flame Records) and discovered some guy had catalogued them in part on his country-music index website days earlier. They are great--wish I had more.

The failure came just today, when I tried to find a good, uncheesy, unChristian, animated thank-you e-card to send to my Uncle. I had to settle for something kind of lame.

I can't find the ILX thread, probably from early 2003, where I had a long stupid argument with a newly arrived Oops about how much homosexuality was a "choice," or something.

I also can't find that one ILX thread where you can ask people to find other ILX threads for you.

btw, somewhat surprisingly, you completely misintrepreted my views just now.

Wiggy (Wiggy), Friday, 21 April 2006 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Dude, Oops, I didn't misrepresent any of your views: I said we had an argument "about" a topic. I don't even entirely remember what the topic was or what positions either of us took on it, which is why I'm interested in finding the thread.

Unless you're denying that you've ever expressed any opinion about either (a) "how much homosexuality is a 'choice'" or (b) "something."

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 21 April 2006 21:50 (twenty years ago)

the way you phrased it, it's pretty clear that you thought i had some wacko, fundamentalist hardcore stance that dem faggits er choosin to be sinful. and oh the laughs you'd have if you could revisit that thread. (for the record, I have know idea how much homosexuality is a choice or not, and, frankly, don't care)

oops (Oops), Friday, 21 April 2006 21:54 (twenty years ago)

oops yr position on that thread was complete indefensible nonsense!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 21 April 2006 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Ha, it should go without saying that I disagreed with whatever you said on the thread -- we were arguing about it, after all -- but come on, dude, I think you're reading a little defensively: I said we had a long stupid argument about a topic. That doesn't even assign you a position, man.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:01 (twenty years ago)

Also you should relax, because half the reason I'm keen on finding the thread is so I can re-read whatever you actually did say and figure out if it really was as weird as I remember or whether I was just being huffy that day!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:02 (twenty years ago)

i want to know what all i said too! but wait, why bother. mark has already told me what to think of it. (haha "relax". as if i'm being grilled by the state's attorney. it's puzzling why people think one would care whether anonymous internet people think one is homophobic or not. fags.)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:09 (twenty years ago)

That doesn't seem to be it! I'm remembering one of those total afternoon-long drawn-out things where most everyone abandons the thread and it's just like three people arguing with Oops.

(Oh man, sorry Oops if this seems like a hearing or something -- I'm not hunting for dirty, I just really wish I could remember this thread!)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:25 (twenty years ago)

Ah, but it contains a clue, when Oops says...

**zips up mouth, locks it, throws key into abyss**

...which would suggest that it came shortly after the argument thread in question.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:26 (twenty years ago)

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

i tried searching with a bunch of different keywords that i remember using or others using, but no luck. i know the opening question----not mine----was something like "so is there any truth to the whole gaydar thing?". is it possible for a thread to just...vanish?

oops (Oops), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:32 (twenty years ago)

Additional clue: it may contain the phrase "should you only perform actions that serve a biological purpose?"

Oops, I actually wouldn't be surprised if it had been axed, as there's some discussion on a moderator thread about "the oopsgay thread" or some such -- maybe something happened eventually that got it deleted.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, back to the thread topic:

-that picture of wiggy where she looks like one of the banger sisters

Bob Six (bobbysix), Friday, 21 April 2006 22:38 (twenty years ago)

the "...biological purpose" thread was a companion thread. there's also this: Queer, Gay, Homo, Butt Pirate of the Carribean. , which mentions the original thread. i did a search for all my posts from 1/1/03 til 2/13/03 (or 13/2/03) and it didn't pan out.

milo z (mlp), Saturday, 22 April 2006 02:40 (twenty years ago)

Long time lurker, 15th or so time poster.

Was the oopsgay thread the one called "is it really possible to tell if someone's gay without them making it explicitly clear to you?"? Because that one's deleted. The only specific comment he made on there that I can remember was one about how he thought that if there was a pill to turn a gay person straight, all (or maybe most, I forget now) gay people would take it and that given the choice gay people would choose to be straight. That doesn't really fit with him thinking that being gay is a choice, but it did get him into some hot water.

all of ILX was like one big Cap'n Save-a-Fag. itchin for battle after years of training. if you could take a pill that would let you not be at risk for being beaten to a pulp by some moron, wouldn't you take it? or is being gay some great honor? is it like being a Puerto Rican? gay, straight, who the fuck cares.

Is this the thread where you ask people to find you stuff you can't find online? I'm looking for pictures (ideally photographic but also drawn/painted) of London's Victorian slums, and I'm not having much luck.

Those tiny plastic stopper things to stop up the hole at the bottom of your iPod that you plug the lead into. You get a spare one with the iPod but I have lost that too. I don't know if I can't find anyone selling spares cause no one else cares about losing them or because I am using the wrong search terms. What is it? A plug? A stopper? A cap?

Oh, about my Farfisa thing up there - it turns out there is a VIP-200 model that functions exactly the same as the VIP-200/R, except that the VIP-200/R has a built-in drum machine. I have managed to re-tune mine, but it still bothers me that I don't have and cannot find a schematic for the drum machine.

Thanks anyway Archel.. The story you linked to was niggling at me last night - I wouldn't like to admit how long I spent twirling around on Google Earth, just double-checking that Colindale wasn't next to Canary Wharf..

Seriously.

Nicholas Passant (Nicholas Passant), Thursday, 13 July 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Colindale's next to Harlesden/Wembley, isn't it?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 13 July 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

North West somewhere. In any case, certainly many miles away in completely the wrong direction.

I'll just mention one more thing I've struggled to find - because this has been frustrating me on and off for a number of weeks.. A passage in a book that runs something like "I seek greater passions, headier air, higher vistas.."

Huysmans? Blank. Nietzsche? Blank. I just can't get the wording right, and am therefore drawing blanks from dawn till dusk. It's something all literary and that - I'm pretty sure.
