NYbound, Monday, 7 June 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 7 June 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

ARE YOU A TRIPSTER?!?!?! OMG WTF LOL

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 7 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently there are some whores on 14th st and 10th ave who aren't really whores, and aren't ladies. i never knew whores are supposed to be ladies, though.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 7 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

you've never seen brooklyn, but you are moving there because your friend gave you the thumbs up, and you have no idea where in brooklyn you are actually moving?

brooklyn is a large place.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Lucky bastard.

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this thread was about someone who was stuck in nyc and couldn't get out, like people who are housebound.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That describes everybody in NYC.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all so clear now. Nabisco, you must tunnel away.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ah fuck.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil beat me to it. Burritoville, buddy, Burritofuckingville.

Sammy's Noodle Shop is my favorite Chinese - it's walking distance from Fat Beats.

Lots of beautiful women.

The only record store in Brooklyn's hip area sucks.

For me, I wouldn't live in New York City if they gave me the whole dang town. But lots of people seem to enjoy it here. I'm leaving in August.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

roger, we haven't seen you on any other of the burrito-ville-love-threads

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I have Burritoville napkins on my desk to hold up to the screen

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

am I the only person who prefers Harry's Burritos to Burritoville?

Allyzay, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

No!

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The only record store in Brooklyn's hip area sucks.

hahaha do you mean Park Slope or Williamsburg? Because there's more than one store in both (I think - although maybe I'm forgetting that Holy Cow closed).

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have not had Harry's as it's not near my work.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on the moment, Ally.

(NB Ally, I don't have your email and need to tell you something. You'll want to hear this. Mail my pfork address or something.)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I just ate lunch and now am starving again.

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i like harry's. i don't think i've ever had burritoville.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

WHA WHA WHAT. there are 12 locations throughout our fair city. you are next to one.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

harry's is the same as benny's, basically. all of the places mentioned are gross in their own way, but burritoville has the mega soy and tvp sloppy joe and fake chorizo so it has my heart.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

plus cutty's fauxican girlfriend.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

That describes everybody in NYC.

You're not that bad off, Nabisco, as long as your feet are in working order. Take it from one who knows....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a Burritoville near my old apartment as well as a Harry's and I just felt the need to go there far more often, and since they also deliver I never really ordered anymore from Burritoville...

nabisco, I don't have your pfork address??? I lost everyone's emails when i got a new computer. my email is alk2102 @ columbia.edu. I actually have put it in "my email address" for this post so you can utilize the EMAIL FORM.

Allyzay, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren: i haven't been brave enough to try the route 66. don't ignroe the tempeh burger wrap, though.

i have heard many stories of the wondrous chorizo-bomb that follows.

when is BURRITOVILLE FAPPAGE

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My B'ville preference may have to do with living three blocks from them during h.s. I'll have to investigate Harry's, but right now I'm a little too preoccupied with mex-mex Taco Taco.

The Nassau Street outpost of Burritoville plays really great music almost all the time, mostly mixed electronic stuff with some norteno thrown in. I haven't heard it at other locations, but they say they get it from a central office.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it's all from the metrosexual chelsea boy's head office

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

it's usually crap like Basement Jaxx - much better when the workers actually take control of the PA and put on some norteno.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the fake chorizo is the saltiest, greasiest stuff ever, and it's an evil glowing maroonish-orange color. absolutely stunning.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I love ILX, somebody asks about what up in Brooklyn and it turns into "these are where I like the burritos" and "the music in that burrito place is best when it is more obscure"

TOMBOT, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

there are NO burritoville's in brooklyn unfortunately

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

please extract the apostrophe from that sentence

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Brooklyn is over anyway, it said so in the Village Voice.

Allyzay, Monday, 7 June 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Once I was in Burritoville, 2nd Ave & 9th st.

They were playing RIDE THE FUCKING LIGHTNING.

I'm just sayin.

and if anyone even says anything GOOD about El Loco Burrito, you're gonna see me.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the grand bakery on the corner of graham and grand in wmsburg is open 24hrs to cater to your avocado taco/huevos rancheros needs.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

really? i was not aware of this

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

dude Basement Jaxx is obscure not only to most Americans, but to most Mexicans too.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, second lauren's recommend of Gran Mostelo or whatever it's called at Grand/Graham. Also, Castro's rules burritos in my hood g.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

dudes, that place looks SHAY-DEE!

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Gran what's-it-called or Castro's?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

shady lookin' maybe, but deeee-licious. stay away from the normal diner food, though. it's rank.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And norteno isn't obscure at all.

Annoying, but not obscure.

Got a maxed-out sweet tooth? Junior's is cheesecake Mecca. Tis at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush. Prices aren't for the thrifty, though:

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 7 June 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Junior's is kinda meh.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The prices are, but the cake rocks.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 7 June 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I've had better cheesecake in the neighborhood, much less the rest of NYC.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

the cheesecake roxors, but i'd stay away from the restaurant unless you get the french toast which is YUM.

only if you wanna guarantee me never going there ever again.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Burritoville should play some Morrissey!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

morrissey should play at burritoville.

I MISS NEW YORK.

I went to the burritoville in chelsea once and I think there was windex in the food, or at least the air. my eyes started burning and I thought it was just me but I asked my sister and she started crying, so we fled. I've gone back many times since and never had that happen again.

btw. Soul Fixins on Atlantic by Smith is officially the best place in the universe. I just had baked stuffing, string beans, greens and potato salad with corn bread and a lemonade.

However, they weren't playing Morrissey.

But they were playing the Durrutti Column, which was pretty cool.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

sometimes i cry at burritoville because i'm so damn happy to be alive enjoying a mega soy

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

dan, are you back on atkins?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

potato salad is an atkins NO NO

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan would fit right in at Burritoville because he doesn't play Morrissey either!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, I've never been on atkins. I just go through phases where I avoid wheat and dairy due to allergies. I've had atkins-y meals at Soul Fixins though, though maybe not as their meatloaf is probably filled with bread or whatever.

you know what? all those carbs are making me feel GOOOD right now, though.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone CRACKED the burritoville salsa recipe?

Is it Windex?

I'd PAY for that SHIT!

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

there's ammonia in crack too, that must be it.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought i was obviously kidding about the atkins thing, as you just at a meal composed entirely of sugars/starch. like, ha. you know?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

their salsa makes me hiccup every time i eat it.

specially the GREEN SWEET WITH THE HEAT!

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never eaten at that place, but I need someone to describe that soy burrito thing in great detail, because I'm really hungry and need something to fantasize about.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The trick is...take 2 paper plates to put your chips on, that way the salsa won't leak through and make a mess. I like the spicy chicken white bean chilli burrito thing.

mmmm....starch.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

it's brown rice, red beans, soy cheese, tempeh, tofu sour cream, guacamole in a whole wheat tortilla.

i like to load it up with red salsa too.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

when is the taco party?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

dude I just unfold my burrito foil and put my chips in that. More area = more free chips.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

shit, once I got the hiccups SO BAD in burritoville, some guy next to me told me I was making him sick.

that just made me laugh...and hiccup more.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

dood...some peeps just use the CUPS for their salsa.

cheaters!

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

that is strictly forbidden by the burritoville law of the land.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, that's wrong, it's better to slather your chips in salsa so you can make a great big mess.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

like me. i was such a scofflaw when i ate there regularly.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

ddb (ddb), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

you can't use the cups! that's for the free water.

oh, am I the only one obsessed with the Blackberry Lemonade?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren you probably use the water cups for soda too?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Jon dude the AMT show is in Park SLope so the taqueria out there would be more convenient.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

stence.. soy bombs tomorrow?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

no, i'm not that ill-mannered.

i volunteered hstencil's house for a taco party but he has so far avoided the issue.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm! I am going to be around all weekend too.

HAMBURGER NEURON GROUP (ex machina), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

cutty I could go tomorrow, sure. Wednesday might be even better.

lauren - you wanted to have the party during the Belmont! I mean, how inappropriate is that? (we should've eaten Alpo.)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

LOS ANGELES - David Hasselhoff (news) was arrested over the weekend on suspicion on driving while intoxicated, police said Monday.

He should have let Kit drive.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

also I'm up for a party at my house but I'm somewhat afraid of exposing my friends to the weirdo libertarian who is my subletter.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

if you're going to be in the slope, forget the taqueria, go to Aunt Suzy's or Blue Ribbon or something. Live large. Eat lots of starch. Feel good.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

what about exposing your libertarian subletter to your weirdo ILX friends?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll go to Blue Ribbon if JON WILLIAMS is buying.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Ian's the one who spends too much on AMT crap.

HAMBURGER NEURON GROUP (ex machina), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Is the woman in AMT still backdooring her synth Herrema-style?

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I will report.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I still have lots of bourbon - does it go with tacos?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm... what about some kind of honey-mint-chili iced bourbon lemonade? would that work, or am i out of my mind?

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

that might work, and mint is easy to find (unless you're at Pete's Candy Store).

I love Brooklyn.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 June 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Graham Ave. all of a sudden because I just realized that it is almost equi-distant for me to get off the Graham stop as it was for me to get off at the Lorimer stop. There is a serious lack of trees around Lorimer.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 7 June 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

So, i just got back from doing fuckingpilates at ABSOLUTE POWER and decided to feed myself a burrito at GRAND MORELOS. I burned the top layer of my tongue eating their green salsa they gave me beforehand so I am not entirely sure if my veggie burrito ($2.75!) was good. But it was colorful and the texture seemed a-ok. I even went all crazy and got a coca-cola in a bottle even though I only drink coca-cola like 4 times a year but then when i got my bill it showed up as Mexican coca-cola anyway so maybe it's going to be ok.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

your gym wins the name sweepstakes. the mafia gym i used to go to in carroll gardens was first called "for your body only," then "body elite."

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh i'm gong to chinatown with friends on thurs.. where is the best place for dim sums??

otherwise i'll use the "grottiest looking restaurant = best chinese food" rule of thumb

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

jin fong on elizabeth for sheer variety and size. mandarin court on mott street is much more low-key, and might be my current dim sum favorite. the best vegetable dumplings in the world are at new green bo on bayard street, and i had a mind-blowing malaysian dinner recently at the overseas asian restaurant (canal street at ludlow).

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh i'll check out jin fong and mandarin court and see which one looks better! thanks for the tip!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 8 June 2004 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

JinG Fong, even.

You people made me walk all the way to The Little Place to get lunch today. I never do that.

I was chemical market reportering, sorry.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I had Burritoville yesterday too. 2nd ave in the hizzouse (although they found a dead woman in a steamer trunk over in a vacant lot over the weekend... just like on Law & Order!).

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard about that! Great quote from yuppie in NY Times about how he was happy he didn't discover the body. Way to be a neighbor, Chip!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

here it is. Somebody shiv this prick:

Justin Tobin, a 35-year-old marketing executive who lives at 203 East 13th Street - the apartment building next to where the body was found - said last night that he had seen a dark-colored trunk sitting on the sidewalk when he went for a jog about 8:30 on Saturday night.

Although he was not present when the trunk was opened yesterday, Mr. Tobin said he believed that it was the same one he had seen the night before.

He described it as a steamer trunk, about three feet long, two feet high and two feet deep, with a brass latch. It caught his attention, Mr. Tobin said, because it appeared to be in better condition than most things that are discarded in the street.

He said the trunk had been left standing upright between a chain-link fence, a trash bin and the corner of his building, so it was partly hidden from view from pedestrians on 13th Street.

"I'm glad I didn't check it out myself," Mr. Tobin said yesterday after learning what had been discovered by the homeless man. The police said that the man, whom they declined to identify, was questioned at the scene. There were no arrests in the case last night.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm upset I didn't get to open it first!" is what he should have said?

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

he should've said "fuck why did somebody have to ruin a good trunk I could put my Brooks Brothers shirts in"

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

frankly, i would be glad that i hadn't found a dead body.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)
