Seeing as most of you are on-line, Shall we try and have a FAP sometime this coming weekend? Chris and I are up, and reading the 'try glasgow more' and 'fire!' threads has warmed the cockles of our hearts and amde us want to see you all in the pub.

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

saturday, west end or town?

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, West End I think. For a change. How about the Lismore?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

the lismore is a good pub.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we should go to the Bon Accord or the Three Judges. And Mother India for din dins

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm up for Mother India, but we'll have to book. Is this within our capabilities?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we should ad-lib.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

not really,

the west end for a change of what?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

nothing

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

We would have to book for Mother India on a Saturday night, yes.

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

we can book injun early on, then be in decided pub from certain time onwards.

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Vicky, can you always be here please?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

that would be lovely, find me a similar job up there, and get Chris a better one and we'll be there in a shot ;0)

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm quite ashamed that there have been three pubs mentioned already, and I've been to none of them before

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Shame on you! (Let's put that to rights)

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Glasgow pub crawl!

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

timed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

All three look like good pubs, but if we're going to mother india, is the sensible thing to go to the Bon Accord?

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not familiar with this 'Bon Accord'

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

you've been there.

past the mitchell library, near the harley davidson shop. is that still st. george's road?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know where the Lismore is - have I been there before?

The 3 Judges is about the same distance away from MI as the Bon Accord and it did fab gingery beer last time I was in.

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

remember, where you learned how to pronounce the name that is "stephen"?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, there. Funny old place. I wondered where all the people had come from.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

the lismore is along from ichiban on dumbarton road. 150m from the three judges.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

it is quite west end.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the best pub in the world, according to some whisky club.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know why I'm suggesting going there. It will just remind me of my ex-girlfriend and I'll end up crying into my single malt.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

it's an ok pub, I hate it.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

you can spell it 'lios mor'.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, but only if you are approaching from the west.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

that fucking pub!

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris demands to know whether there is pub quizzing on sunday

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

We haven't, for ages, but we could.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

there can be but it might be shit. is that okay?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Cozen should stay away.

the bluefox, Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

At least the quizmasters aren't bent up here.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Will they lose our scorecards?

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

(I've become terribly homophobic since I moved to Glasgow)

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, great x-post

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 22 August 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, did we decide? or is Glasgow being usual?

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 23 August 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Mother India on the Byers Road? If so what's the name of the big boozer opposite-ish? It was good (once when I went there in 1997).

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

no, mother india's further into town. I'm trying to think which one you mean on Byres road and failing miserably.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's down a little alleyway thing near the Whistler's Mother restaurant...probably.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, the ashoka? With Ginty Mcginty's just across the way?

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

you're makingthis up now aren't you?

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

although Ashton lane isn't that near to whistler's mother, so maybe not.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

eh?

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah Jinty McGinty's, where men in suits drink Guinness with hearty ostentation.

It's totally near, Vicky!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm down with the Three Judges. Lismore is nice but lacking in seating. Plus I don't want the sight of Dastoor's pathetic blubbing disturbing my drinking. Mother India at 8pm? Pub from when?

I got very drunk yesterday in Brel at lunchtime, then looked above the bar to see a picture of Jacques Brel whereupon my instant thought was 'that's a bit random'.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Lismore is nice but lacking in seating

This is not true, unless you go late on a Friday or Saturday night.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Curry? Beer? I'm there!

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 23 August 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't understand how the Ashoka keeps getting all these Curry Club awards - every time I eat there everything's covered in generic orange sauce. Ally likes it, but then he likes his scrambled eggs done in the microwave.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect the Curry Club is plagued by corruption.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, so it's looking like the usual suspects:
Me
Ally
Alba
Ailsa
Cozen
RJG
Cathy

Are all these people coming out, for drinking if not for curry?

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes to both.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am saying yes for everyone. Maybe to everyone.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

The mister will be there too.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't RJG away? Or will he be back by then?

Anyway, it's sounding good!

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Should someone phone ahead/book for food? Neil will be there for food as well as drink, if I didn't make that clear.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, that's why I'm fighting the usual Glasgowfapdisorganisation with listmaking.

Food: Mr & Mrs Ailsa, Me, Ally, Alba, Vicky, Porky. Any other takers?

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm staying away.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I assume RJG and Cathy. The idea of Cathy missing any meal is ridicluous. Most, she has twice.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU'RE STAYING AWAY?

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm staying away.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Why, you... take your neckerchief and...

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 23 August 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

O please come out with the neckerchief!

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

you're mocking me?

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

NO!

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU FUCKHEAD.

Is that mocking?

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

fast-talking college guy.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I demand fancy neckerchief action - but only from boys

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Doesn't Vicky sometimes wear a neckerchief?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

no, maybe in private

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I've seen her in private. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry for imagining your wife.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll see you later young man

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 23 August 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

you've twisted my arms.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

So you'll come? Don't cancel.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

no, this thread is having a weird physiological reaction on me. I am typing this with my laptop behind me.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

(psyche.)

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 23 August 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't weird out on me, cozen.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 23 August 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't Get Weird On Me, Alb.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 23 August 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Cozen rocking the mic?

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 06:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm never entirely sure what he's doing.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll phone tonight and book a table for 10, to be safe. If I have to phone up on Friday and change it to 7, so be it.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What time should I go for? If I remember rightly, they have sittings on a Saturday night - 5, 7 and 9 I think. I guess 7 is best, ja?

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Why have you swung from 10 to 7? Whatever suits me, anyway. Probably earlier, actually. I like drinking after dinner, not before.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

7 is fine.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Ali Baba taking the piss? Can't he tell his times from his covers?

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

in other glasgow news, the 'I'm not maxine carr' woman is spinning me out.

cºzen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

She looks nothing like Maxine Carr.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

What have I done wrong?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Mooro is confused, I think.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with Mooro. I think. I'm confused too now. I thought it was a table for 10 people at 7 o'clock. But now I am not sure.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, now I see.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You're a smart cookie.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope booking staff at restaurants are used to dealing with this kind of seats/time ambiguity.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's what they live for.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

That's why they deserve a big tip.

Mooro (Mooro), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I got carried away with the fletics and forgot. I'll do it tomorrow, promise.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Why can't you do it now?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

did you get your cds, alba?

cºzen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, there were 3! I was going to thank you when I had heard them all, but I don't know why I always take this approach to thanking people. It's a mega-goft - thank you so much.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

'mega-goft'?

s'ok, it's just I don't have much faith in the post.

also re: fapping - I will try come out. I probably won't drink much tho, don't want to fall asleep on the train home and end up in largs.

cºzen (Cozen), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Like a gift, but bigger and "ooh"-ier.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

That woman looks more like Stewart Lee than Maxine Carr.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

her story wasin Metro this morning

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

This is Not Maxine

http://scotlandtoday.scottishtv.co.uk/content/mediaassets/images/irene-lyttle.jpg

I would have liked to join you all for fap but already arranged to go to the Cowal Games in Dunoon.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Why aren't we all going to the Cowal Games in Dunoon?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

that is a very good question

is that some caber tossing business?

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

and what's going on on Friday night? I'm going to need to do some serious drinking if the week carries on like this

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Curry? Beer? I'm there!
-- ailsa , August 23rd, 2004. (ailsa)

i like the fact that, in scottish, this RHYMES!

note to self: try glasgow more soon.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

fri is my brother's birthday and, as it turns out, someone else's birthday.

I'm going to be in derby, I think, even though, in many ways, I wish I wasn't.

we should, really, be trying 'try glasgow more' more.

what rhymes, though?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

beer and there, obv.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Not really.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Because, you see, one has an 'eee' sound and one has an 'ay' sound. Unless perhaps you're thinking of some non-existent comedy Scottish accent such as Groundskeeper Willie. Ya wouldnae be doin' that noo, would ya mon?

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

here and there rhymes with beer and there.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Try Glasgow more more more.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

the ally cook connection.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

try glasgow more more more, moore

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Last week I was going to suggest going to go to the Cowal Games on the Waverley, but thought better of it due to needing to phone up, book ahead, spend money, hope for decent weather etc etc.

Maybe I should have said. I wonder if we could still go?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

now you're all at it.

cºzen (Cozen), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

This won't be happening.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

bumpity bump.

i am up at our Glasgow office tomorrow. can someone (cook, madchen?) text me and tell me what is happening about meeting up etc?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought saturday was the day.

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 27 August 2004 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

every day is the day Cozzer

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 27 August 2004 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am stupid. You can all laugh at me tomorrow.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 27 August 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, if you insist (I think we'll be at pop league tonight)

about to get on train, see you soon Glasgow!

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 27 August 2004 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a very good thread.

I have been to Ichiban on Dumbarton Road. I don't know the Three Judges. I think I know the Bon Accord. I certainly know the name. I think a lot of the places you mention are new. For instance, Brel.

I think Derby Cathedral is worth a visit. Also Derby Museum, with its Joseph Wright of Derby paintings. But perhaps I am speaking out of turn.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 27 August 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Peter, Lloyd says he will be in the Halt over the coming months. This is exciting news.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

New pub quizmaster??!!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope so.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, dinner tomorrow: they only had a table for 9.30 or 5.30. Feel free to curse and scold me - I should have booked then but it was bed time and I forget that places are still open at bed time. Anyway, I went for 9.30 so I suggest meeting in a pub, going to dinner, then going back to a pub. First pub to have Olympics coverage please?

With the exception of Onimo, it seems to be the usual faces on this thread. If there are any other Glasgow Ilxors who want to come, please don't feel we'll be cliquey and exclusive - we like meeting new people!

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Speak for yourself!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be in Glasgow sometime in October with work. I usually manage to meet Onimo for a pint or several, so I'll offer a FAP once I know when exactly.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

so, meeting pub & time?

cºzen (Cozen), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

so.

cºzen (Cozen), Saturday, 28 August 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hallooooo Glasgow! Just popping in for a deep fried Mars Bar and an Irn Bru.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 28 August 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

what Cozen said. I believe the women's 1500m is at 6.30pm if you want to arrange around that.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I want to watch the Olympics in a pub / be drinking for hours. 8pm somewhere would suit me.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't particularly want to watch the Olympics in a pub either. I meant as guide for what time I would get to the pub after the 1500m was finished.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, no it was just Lucy said "First pub to have Olympics coverage please?".

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't that before she booked the table for the middle of the night though?

(I'm not averse to Olympicking pubs, but I am averse to drinking before going out for a curry)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

8pm onwards. Three Judges. Is what I'm saying.

Ally C (Ally C), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

So not Olympicking in the pub then?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I say go with Cook's plan. See you all there. I'll let cozen know.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds good to me. We're taking the car anyway, so can come up after top Olympic action in the house. This will also give me several hours to repair the huge attack of frizziness that has befallen my hair today.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope you enjoyed yourself.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 29 August 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Why, didn't you?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 29 August 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I always enjoy myself.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 29 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Alan/Ian, whatever your name is. "Who are you? I don't know you." etc etc

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 29 August 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That wasn't so much fun. But everything else. Yes.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 29 August 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

are you david cozen?

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 29 August 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You're famous!

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 29 August 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to show up cos I was in town. But I was dead drunk and I don't know you guys. So I shat it. Next time Gadget.....

scotstvo (scotstvo), Sunday, 29 August 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

people in glasgow - how exciting is optimo, anyway? do you pull there?

etc, Sunday, 29 August 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

optimo

RJG (RJG), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I just had my bum pinched there, but I don't suppose that counts.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Scotstvo - come next time. And whoever else.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

it wasn't me.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 30 August 2004 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It was me.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 30 August 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

it was him.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 30 August 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Well anyway, as you see, Optimo is clearly a great pulling ground.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Not for me.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 30 August 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I would have pinched your bum if you'd asked.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Roll on next week!

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 30 August 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Glasgow hasn't let me down.

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 30 August 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The staff in the restaurant we were in on Saturday did, a bit.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 August 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

They were Spanish, though.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Still, we got to laugh at Gordon Smith.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 August 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

glasgow is amazing.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 30 August 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It really is.

On the way home last night, RJG overheard an American woman say "I find people in Glasgow very..." but missed the last word. What do you think she said?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

very.

cºzen (Cozen), Monday, 30 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

sophisticated.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 30 August 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

emo.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Monday, 30 August 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

pinchable.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 30 August 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

easily.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 August 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

more.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 30 August 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

""

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 30 August 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Sigh.

That was meant to be me blowing a kiss to Lara.

Sometimes I don't like nu-ilx.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 30 August 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it felt like there was more than one word, coming.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 07:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you do the Old Firm thing, Porky?

Come to think of it, I don't know the score.

That's what I think of Scottish football.

Kick and run.

Do you really go to Optimo? Hardcore!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Optimo Schmoptimo. 1 nil to them.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Kick and run.

Most of the kicking and being done by Rangers, as a direct result of the amount of running done by Celtic.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha we got to Hubbards and it was rammed, as was Bar Oz over the road and in the end the stomach prevailed so we went for food at Oran Mor, which was very nice (expensive lager apart)

we saw Ned Sherrin yesterday!!

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Ms Vicky still here? Are there more bouze opportunities before the end of the week?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure, I just spoke to her and she was heading for Buffet dinner, no idea what she's doing now though

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the way Cabbage saves his use of capitals for the really important stuff, like FOOD related items.

Mooro (Mooro), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

but of course

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I found some heel tips which I think belong to Vicky, but I haven't found Chris's brown hat yet.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

it's ok, Vicky found it in her luggage last night.

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It was fun to meet you Chris and Vicky, even though I missed the fapping and the curry : ( Come back soon.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

a pleasure to meet you too Cathy, Glasgow was a treat as ever, and enjoy the wodka!

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Cathy you must make sure to not to miss fapping and currying with me next weekend.. missing two faps in a row would be devastating!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

no more booze opportunities unfortunately, as it's my last night, and we're having a drinks reception and dinner (with free booze, or else there will be some very unhappy archivists) at the city chambers.

We did end up going out for drinks last night, a select gathering, and we went to the horseshoe. I was amazed how quiet it was until i had to go upstairs to the loo. Laser kareoke is very popular in glasgow.

More golden promise! And 8 pints and a glass of pineapple juice for less than £13!!!!

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 2 September 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The largest medical conference in Britain descends on Glasgow today. Find yourself a nice doctor!

btw. I don't suppose you saw the report on your conference in the Evening Times. It's so sweet!

Keep it on the record

A CONFERENCE exploring the challenges faced by archivists gets under way today at the University of Strathclyde.
Academics from universities including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Oxford will be represented at the four-day conference, with workshops and panel sessions.
It will look at the importance of keeping records and conserving archive material.

I just love the last sentence.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

End of conference: "So, we're all in agreement: we still want to keep records of stuff? OK! Same time next year kids! Byee mwah!."

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry ken c, I will definitely be around for fapping next weekend. : )) It will be a good chance to share my ill-earned vodka too.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I have your vodka, Cathy!

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, I may actually manage a Ken-fap this time.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

: ))

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I have, however, drunk it.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

fapping glasgow.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 2 September 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You best be lying Ally C!!! I won it fair and square!

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. I may be lying.

I have never been scared of Cathy before.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

vodka coffee gives you the fear, you know.

so how was this vodka won??

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I won it, as I say, fair and square by being at a table with some people who know a lot of stuff in a pub where there was a quiz. And if Ally C turns out to have drunk it after all, he should be trembling in his boots!!!

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

or something.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Never come between Cathy and her food.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

haha being at a table with people who know a lot of stuff is my favourite pub quiz strategy. i can only answer questions about state capitals. (our local pub quiz asks one every week - the only time i break the silence during the quiz, say "nashville, tennessee" and then go back to drinking my pint)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(Is vodka food? I kind of think it is, like fish are animals)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

vodka jelly definitely is

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, well that's neither here nor there.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's made of potatoes! (I think)

I could only answer about Cadfael, and I was wrong anyway.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

there was a pub quiz question once about what is vodka made of.. you'd have got that one too.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

You weren't wrong as such, just over-specific.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Never come between Cathy and her food.

Remember the crisps picture!

'Sacramento' is another good answer to have up your sleeve.

'Sacre Menko!' is a good exclamation for any kind of ilx gathering.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi, Mooro - and company.

We are listening to a Lloyd Cole & The Commotions track, 'Beautiful City', that has never been released! It's very good!

One day, we, too, will return to Glasgow.

Jerry the Nipper & The Pinefox (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to think Jerry was sitting in the Pinefox's lap as that was typed.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

He was. How exciting! Why not come to see Lloyd on October 12th?

Fish are animals > Alba is a vegetarian > Alba eats fish > Alba has no respect for even his own beliefs.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe I am a fraud, thus defeating your objection.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm taking the 5th.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, I'm not a vegetarian, as is clear.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 2 September 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the 'next weekend' Ken refers to this weekend or the weekend after? Next confuses me.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 3 September 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The weekened after, I thought.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. We should drink the vodka before he gets his hands on it.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 3 September 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe I was stupid enough to put it in your rucksack.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 3 September 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

oops sorry yes next as in the weekend of next week 10th and 11th! for winchester fun!

damn now i have get my hands on other people's vodkas.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 September 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

Or, Fancy a Gig. Fancy a Park. Fancy a Coffee. Fancy a Museum. Fancy a Glasgow!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

Fancy!

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

Hello ... Euai.

Lots of vowels!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

euai euai euai he's a little butterfly

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Are you going to be in town on Friday night, PF?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

I enjoyed re-reading this thread, but it's shocking that it's 2 years since we tried glasgow

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not here this weekend, I'm afraid.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

where have all those glasgow peeps gone? did they let go?

stet (stet), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Madchen, I am!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously: Glasgow, this weekend!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

hahah are you coming up specially to see the wonder that is mr alfy cock and his band hot to trot?

dahlin (dahlin), Wednesday, 6 September 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

Glasgow FAP, Friday

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 7 September 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

I got the impression that that was some kind of ... afternoon event.

I am going to Glasgow to see The Rememberers. And the Cocks, yes.

Other days are U&K, also. As I said elsewhere: fancy a gallery / museum / walk / etc?

the pinefox (the pinefox), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

if I were in glasgow this weekend, I would suggest the newly re-opened kelvingrove museum, which is both a gallery and a museum and in a nice place for walking.

unfortunately I am going to ostend. ostend fap anyone?

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

i went to kelvingrove. it was swarmed with annoying people. like bees. only more annoying. actually, i like bees. (but not people.) i'm going to see john hegley's kiddie show in the afternoon. woo!

dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 7 September 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

I am being teh culture vulture on Saturday. Renfrewshire open doors day then Proms in the Park. Possibly venture westwards for Doctor Cock, dependent on timings. And weather. If 96 would tell us what time they will be on stage, we will endeavour to make it in time (unlike last time when we got to Mono - boo - just in time to see them come off the stage).

I have not been back to Kelvingrove yet.

It could be an all-evening event, Pinefox. When are you here?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 7 September 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

karaoke at the pewter pot

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 7 September 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

The Pinefox's ETA is 7.45pm. Chez Cock has no tinternet but they have phones, which will be rung. I'm going to see Tony Wilson on Saturday so I hope TPF can come out tonight! It is hopeful, if he arrives at Central Station. I'm going to the Alpeng Lodge now.

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

I got directions from one of Grimly's colleagues but still cldn't find the Alpen Lodge :-( Oh well, next time

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 8 September 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

Ward, you should have given me a shout!

stet (stet), Saturday, 9 September 2006 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

how can you not find the alpen lodge??? lordy...

dahlin (dahlin), Saturday, 9 September 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

hey i only learnt to distinguish my ass from my elbow the other week

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Saturday, 9 September 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)
