It's been a while, and I'm off to the UK in just over a week, and I keep making and breaking promises to see various SF ILXers, so we could...you know, do something to celebrate this fantastic weather we're having.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I know that a few of us are going to Black Dice tomorrow anyway, but what about something this weekend or early next week?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(I am way overdue for an SF visit myself.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not going now.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

You keep SAYING that...but will you ever deliver?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh what a mess.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm bad because my job sucks?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

NO- it's bad that you can't come!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

If I can get someone to go with me, I might go to SF over Labor Day weekend.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I won't be around on Labor Day! :(

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Here - have another stunning live view of the bay:

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha! Marvellous.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, you weren't in Santa Cruz on Sunday, were you? I saw someone that looked SO much like you...do you ever wear cycling shorts????

EURGH. That said, my dad does wear cycling shorts because he actually cycles (and has the lean physique to carry it very well). He does not however have long hair.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I met a really cute boy from Santa Cruz over the weekend. How far is SF from Santa Cruz?

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

About two hours south, two and a half maybe? Also depends on whether you're going by coast or via San Jose.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

SC is about 75 to 90 minutes from SF depending on HWY 17 traffic.

I will be in the tenderloin tomorrow night and west oakland on thursday night.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i might be up for some indian food at naan n curry.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Ben Ch@sny has a girlfriend.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm up for a FAP (or Indian.) Just name a time and place.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

My brother thinks "naan n curry" is really funny for some reason. Which Naan N Curry are we talking about, though?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex-are you still at the same job?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Nope, that job is in Banglore now. I'm working at a new place.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Also working 8am-5pm now.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Downtown?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

naan n curry is at 478 o'farrell, 4 blocks east of GAMH on the opposite side of the street.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if Kyle eats Indian food...

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Um not really. I'm on Van Ness near City Hall.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Gavin? Is that you?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ihttp://www.billburg.com/artists/alaurence/images/040127034224.gif

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I like her jacket.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

THAT's not Gavin!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I eat good indian food, which Naan & Curry is NOT.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Nobody got my Santa Cruz joke.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe we should find somewhere still showing this:
http://www.criterionpicusa.com/cplusa/images/lcl_homeontherangeposter.jpg

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

actually...fuck that

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

if you were to guess by bus shelter advertising, that movie is still playing everywhere

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle is correct: naan n curry is technically pakistanian food. sorry to be so culturally insensitive.

kyle, do you eat in the tenderloin anywhere?

bo bay mon in little saigon.
crap fish n chips at the old chelsea.
vegetarian fare at golden era.
...?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

mel's diner?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Venture Frogs?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Bus shelter advertising is like a secret code to everything.

Hey, want to hear a funny fish out of water SF story???

My brother took the Muni to the Upper Haight yesterday, but he put a $20 bill in the slot and waited for change...

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the million pho places on Larkin.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I just meant that it wasn't good. it's alright but it's very fast foody to me. we have three thousan indian buffets in berkeley which are all just as good.

my fave indian in SF is Rasoi in the Mission. The place(s) next to the hemlock are allegedly godlike. I haven't eaten there.

Rumour has it there is a Vietnamese place in the 'loin that is better than the Slanted Door. I will find out the name in a bit.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Kyle in surprising Berkeley boosterism incident!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

berkeley has good food, even if I hate every other thing about it.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Venture Frogs?

you have to be kidding, there's no way that place is still in business? is it a museum?

My brother took the Muni to the Upper Haight yesterday, but he put a $20 bill in the slot and waited for change...

bwahahaha.

One of the million pho places on Larkin.

do you eat beef Alex?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Of corrse.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Rasoi. India Oven is my fav, but it is too expensive.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i am a vegetarian, if anyone cares.

oh how I hate that Venture Frogs place. The name is dumb, the concept is cringe-worthy.

India Oven on Fillmore? It's good too. I don't remember the prices....it is crowded though.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The place(s) next to the hemlock are allegedly godlike. I haven't eaten there.

ew.

Rumour has it there is a Vietnamese place in the 'loin that is better than the Slanted Door. I will find out the name in a bit.

i rate le cheval >>> slanted door.

indian oven is good, it has table service and linens in case any of you were wondering why it's ~$10 an entree. JAXXX0N's favorite is Pakwan.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Venture Frogs is still in business (I have no idea how, although when I lived a block away I will confess that I ate there whenever I was in a rush to catch a movie.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

ew

there are two places, one is take away, one is table service, apparently they share the same kitchen. are we talking about the same place? the only person I know who has eaten there is english though. their standards of taste and cleanliness are different than ours.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

oh NOW gygax! disses Slanted Door, but he loved it those many years ago...

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

how does Le Cheval compare to Le Petit Cheval in Berkeley?

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I still have yet to go to Slanted Door, but now that cynical hipster gygax has tainted it for me.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

we are eating there next week (on wednesday, I think)! we can see if they can expand the reservation.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmmm...

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll get back to you on that. I have been leaking $$$ like crazy for the last week, so I might have to wait until we get back.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

hey now, the slanted door is just fine! but le cheval... i mean, it's just a completely different experience. le petit cheval is just a lunch counter (at least the one in oakland is).

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

what was the name of the place we went last year?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Millenium.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

it was A TREAT!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

and it was YOUR TREAT, too!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The waitresses in Le Cheval are very very pretty.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

very very pretty

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

pervert

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You hippies come to Oakland with your brown-bread-eating pacifist activism and we'll take care of you like last time...

andy, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

We might move to Piedmont.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

boutique-y!

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Blame the Mrs.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't Piedmont like it's own city? Or am I thinking of Claremont? With it's own mayor and cops and whatnot?

andy, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

there is a piedmont city but I think he means piedmont ave. piedmont the city is snooty.

i would move there if my mrs. wanted to, but we will move to SF instead, probably.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I want an Alameda houseboat myself... with a pool slide down to the water and a rooftop deck, decorated with an extreme nautical theme - lots of brass and teak.

Of course, I'll be a sixty-six year old "Parrothead" with a fifty-three year old younger woman before it's a reality. I'll listen to rap-metal and start going to raves. I'll bleach my weird beard.

andy, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle, you are moving to pacifica!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

andy I already imagine you as having a weird beard

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

HI DERE!

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

we're only moving to pacifica as some kind of last resort. I'd rather live in Potrero or the Inner sunset, certainly. or stay where we are but magically grow a second bedroom and a dining room.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a weidr beird right now. it's mostly on my neck

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of weird beards...Hi JaXon! ;p

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost!

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

My weird-beard is three feet long and rapped in rasta colored ribbons. But I had it years before everybody else grew one.

andy, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

you grew it even before this guy??

ihttp://www.santa-to-the-stars.com/portfolio/bra-10a.jpg

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a weird beard when Ghengis was still temping at a pony ride in Ulaan Bator.

andy, Tuesday, 24 August 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

When?

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno...My brother is still here for a few days...early next week? sunday? monday?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you still here, Leee?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Here till 9/9.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

So...did we cross off Naan N Curry?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

How about Golden Era? We might need a reservation tho.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hook us up, bro!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Do the Spencer Chow thing!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Monday night! Do I hear Monday night?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i thought this was for tonight?

why is there need to be so tenderloin-ish then?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

we are going to black dice tonight! you are not though.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

why aren't i?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought you were going to oakland on thursday

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, i am doing both! i saw black dice at starry plough and kimo's last time they were here. i would've seen animal collective the night before they opened for Mum last year but i was out of town.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i keep hearing they are lame hippies live. are they playing last or middle? I've seen both.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry if i made teh confusion

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, when i saw them in 99 (w/ convocation of), it was one of the most intense shows i've ever been to (in terms of fighting, blood, violence). but that was a different era.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

we can get in a fight tonight, if you like

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

ADAM BRING KNIFES PLS THNX

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

let me find that thread where i said "more 90s screamo bands should take drugs in their late twenties".

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I enjoy the band The Blood Brothers.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

do you like the Bacon Brothers?

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

are you guys going to drop @c1d?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

God no. I'm too old for that shit.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a thimble of watermelon sake last night. that's as hardcore as I get these days.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

you're only as old as you feel!

No.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Kyle's the crazy youngin.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i am waiting to do it at the RNC when I'm in NYC on Sept. 2nd. I figure if the world is going to end it might as well seem as fucking apocalyptic as possible

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i might drink one of these:

http://www.bevnet.com/images/reviews/hansens_functionals/hansens-energydeuce.jpg

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

so do you tripsters want to meet tonight?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

the RNC will be done on the 2nd!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

tripsters.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Kyle, you're not coming out until late? i was planning on meeting gygax with my fun-hating brother.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i picture adam's brother as the lead singer of jamiroquai.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

we can't leave berkeley until 8:30

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i picture adam's brother as the lead singer of jamiroquai.

You will be greatly disappointed.

Kyle, is Mrs Kyle coming?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

adam,

where are youse guys meeting?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight, Michael?

Or a tentative Golden Era FAP on say, monday night? Going once...

(I'm sorry, I am not good at organization)

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

mrs. kyle is coming yes, that's why we're leaving at 8:30

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Monday, I'll be in Tahoe. Tonight are you meeting before the Black Dice show? Where are they playing?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

tonight: tenderloin

FAP: try the tenderloin less.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The GAMH. I guess I may be meeting gygax somewhere over that way, I'm guessing around 7-7:30ish as I'll be driving into the city. No venue as of yet, but come along if you can!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Let me know. I might be able to do the 'Loin. Hemlock? The Olive? I think we should meet in a divey tranny bar. Any ideas?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The Brown Jug?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I can't do tonite, but I'm up for Monday.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's the Brown Jug?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no clue as to how to find my way around the Tenderloin, but name a place and I'll get there eventually.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd admire your frankness and your resourcefulness, adam.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Tonight:

Brown Jug (Eddy at Hyde), Edinburgh Castle (yawn), Divas (I have never been Michael!), or maybe the Bambuddha Lounge for Adam:

When Sean Penn picked the newly opened Bambuddha Lounge to host the wrap party for his movie "The Assassination of Richard Nixon," the restaurant-bar instantly became the "in" destination for young San Francisco hipsters. The '50s-style exterior draws attention with a 20-foot-long reclining Buddha on the roof, gazing out over Eddy Street. Inside, a similar theme is played out, with Buddha heads, grass-paper walls and an indoor/outdoor fireplace that casts a romantic glow over the room. A ramp lined with a waterfall and four standing Buddha-like figures connects the the main dining room to the nightclub, where revelers can sip cocktails like the Lycheetini, Guavapolitan, Monkey Cocotini and the Cherry Blossom at the sensuous circular bar or on the fuchsia leather mattresses designed for lounging, talking, listening to the DJ or whatever else people do when reclining on an expansive flat surface.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Olive, they are friendly inside and it is nice. but I'm not going to be there so don't listen to me!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Ha-Ra, the Hemlock, and the Owl Bar (but it's not very close to the 'loin).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ha-Ra is cool. I've no real interest in doing the Bambuddha but you guys call it and I'll go. (How's that for passive-agressive?)

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, the Bambuddha does sound like an Adam kind of place (given that I hardly ever actually go to bars, or socialize with other human beings, much at the moment).

You both like the Ha-Ra, whatever that is, so we should go there.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I say either the Ha-Ra or the Brown Jug would be good places to meet.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

are you doing this on purpose? ;P

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

olive

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Brown Jug Saloon
Good ol' watering hole

neighborhood: Tenderloin
tel: +1 415 441 8404

address
496 Eddy St
(at the corner of Hyde Street)
San Francisco, CA
US, 94109

A crowd of down to earth folks, mostly over 30, likes to gather here. The mood is always mellow and the interior is simple and, yes, brown. Good old American rock spills out of the jukebox, and there is both pool and pinball on hand for between-drink diversion. If you feel peckish, next door is the Layfayette Cafe, where you can eat yourself to capacity for little more than $5.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

you said you were too old for acid anyway

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha-Ra Club

Phone: +1 415 673 3148
Open Hours: 10am-2am daily
Neighborhood: Polk Gulch
Nearest Train: MUNI BUS: 38
Category: Gay & Lesbian, Bars & Pubs

Overview of Ha-Ra Club

If you were born in the 60s, you will recognize this place. It looks a lot like your living room did back then. The prices are kind of retro, too, with extremely reasonable price tags on the well drinks and beers that are available from the personable bartenders. Not everything is straight from 1960, however. The juke box is stocked with favorite tunes from every decade.

Note: Cash only.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

there are some young girls at the New Century, if youth is what you're looking for.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Note to ILX: Remember when Star Wars came out? I wasn't even born yet!!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I am kidding of course. Both of these places sound fine.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

where you can eat yourself to capacity for little more than $5

Weird. They make you pay to eat yourself.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am all carbs.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Go on, michael. pick one.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha-Ra. What time?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

errrr...7:30!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

We did it!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I get off work at 5:00 so I cannot promise that I won't be slightly sozzled by 7:30. Glasses, grey jacket, light orange tie, possibly outside smoking. Ci vedremmo sta sera.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

can I go too?

(Jon L), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

adam you'd better wear your suit

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I won't get back home here until about 6:00 and then I have to find my brother and drag him onto BART...I'll mail you my brand new cell # now!

milton-yes!

kyle-what?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

michael is wearing a tie! it is a dress up occasion! make an impression! shave, too, please.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I shaved this morning. WITH the grain this time. It hurt like hell. I am already stubbly again.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, in that case maybe you shouldn't wear your skirt.

can I go too?

Smartass answer: I don't even know you.

Sincere answer: Ha-Ra!

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

MILTON PLEASE COME!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i am going home and changing pre-FAP.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

are comets on fire any good?

(Jon L), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

don't change, you're perfect!

xpost

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Comets On Fire can be hit or miss, but lately i think they've been gaining momentum though.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I may wear glasses. gygax and michael know what I look like. i will be with my brother, who looks like an awkard and skinnier version of me.

I like Comets On Fire.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh-dark blue jacket!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm meeting JaX0n at Divas after the show.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I will de-lurk and come as well.

mikef (mfleming), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm actually probably not going out tonight, but hitting the oakland show tomorrow.

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it's gygax's fault

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

HARRISON STREET FESTIVAL

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Me to my brother while stuck in traffic while waiting to go over the Bridge:
"A guy I know called Jason lives somewhere over there".

My brother:
"huh".

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you blame him, adam?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

You should've said "JAX0N", he'd probably still be asking you questions about the man.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is JaXoN?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

he used to be known as Jackson.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael-no.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I told my brother to untuck his shirt in order to look less british. He declined and buttoned his pea coat all the way up to his neck.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

soooo... sensible.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried to feed him a burrito, but he insisted on ordering one with just rice and chicken...no beans, no sauce, no cheese...that's it. It went half-eaten.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i was told by someone english that only homosexuals tucked their shirts in in London.honestly!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

this person was kind of "lad" and an asshole though

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish your fetish for British people was a little more...discerning sometimes.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

*Furiously struggles to get shirttails out before the guys notice*

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

but Michael...you work in a bank. My brother is just some jobless early-twentysomething traipsing up and down the Haight snorting at things.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

he was my friend's boyfriend, I didn't say I liked him!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

You should have the wherewithal not to be friends with people who engage in congress with people like that.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

My brother is just some jobless early-twentysomething traipsing up and down the Haight snorting at things.

I remember it well.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too. :(

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, now I can't commit to dinner on monday night, because I forgot we're going out for my wife's birthday the next night, and then leaving for NYC the next day, so we need to get some crap done.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 26 August 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm up for the Golden Era. What time? (BTW how was the show last nite?)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

7:30-8:00 for Monday?

I liked the show. I thought Black Dice were great.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

7:30 (or even earlier) sounds good to me.

I wish I could have gone :(

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Earlier would be fine for me, actually.

What was stopping you? Would it make you feel better if I told you it was fucking hot and full of weird hipsters?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Sheer exhaustion mostly. And not really paying attention to the date the show was.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha also that makes me feel better.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

alex, there's also a show tonight in the beast that i'm going to w/ gygax

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to meet you guys beforehand but I too am exhausted.

the beast, eh?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

What is the beast? (Also what is the show?)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

what is beast in pig latin?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Doh!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realized what the show is too. Man am I slow today. I'm gonna go home, drink a beer and sleep now.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(Also what is the show?)

Same show as last night

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

How was it, guys?

How about we meet around 6 for drinks somewhere on Monday, then? I won't be checking in here much over the weekend.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds good to me.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

you won't be checking ILX on the weekend? did your wife block it with a parental control or something?

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

No, but extracurricular productivity calls and I must answer.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

it was cool. above par but not amazing. gygax ate a sack of my hot salty nutz

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

He tried that with me too!

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

the show was good. comets on fire were underwhelming... worth checking out for a song or two but a whole set is just kinda bleh. animal collective were not as good as the night before, much slower song selection, pretty damn sloppy (apologetically) but they played the same last three uptempo songs (like the previous night) which made the show memorable for me. black dice were MUCH better last night than the night before. they were playing under a time constraint and that kept things fluid unlike last night where they got pretty stagnant and stuck in a rut a couple times. same exact set just tighter.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

jax0n is a salty dog. adam is a treat, thanks for helping us navigate!

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

How long were the AC and BD sets?

dean? (deangulberry), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

In SF, AC did just under an hour, BD just over.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

In OAKLAND, AC did about 45 minutes, BD were probably on their way to a 40 minute set, we left after about 25-30 minutes because I had to eat more of JaX0n's salty nutz.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could have seen the look on his face.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

it took me about 10 minutes to decide on the salty satchel of nutz. west oakland is like bolinas.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't understand what that means. What does Fancy Feast mean, by the way?

all i know is that bubb rub and lil sis came into the convenience store while G was searching for nutz and bubb said to his friend, "shiiiiiiiit, i've got 68 kids from 8 different women, i don't do that shit no mo"

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oakland is good like that.

Read the new XLR8R.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

this gentleman said (verbatim): "hey bubb, i've got 16 kids from 8 different women, i don't do that shit no more". he had a package of condoms in his right hand.

68 you fuck!

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 27 August 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey do any of you want to see the Ramones movie on Monday???

adam. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 28 August 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's it playing? The Lumiere?

Why do I always miss what's playing there?

Yeah, I'm up for that (says the lurker).

I am actually downtown tomorrow afternoon for an interview, then there's the weekend, which isn't so good for me...then there's next week.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone like Club EZ5 besides me?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

NEVER MIND:

SF FAP? This Friday perhaps? Thoughts?

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

An old thread but what the hey -- very likely I'll be in SF a little before and after Xmas like a few years back, staying with my sis and her boyfriend before heading down to Carmel for the holiday itself. No need for specific plans yet but will folks be in town? I was thinking maybe something on the night of Friday the 22nd.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 22:24 (nineteen years ago)

I might be around, Ned. I'm embarrassed to say I can't recall your charming sister's name nor her man's, but I lost my old phone and otherwise suffer from, oooh look a shiny glass of wine!

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

Bless your heart. ;-) She remembers you, fret not! We'll work something out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

four months pass...
Kinda last minuteish, but -- I'll be in SF tomorrow for a bit before flying out to London, and my sis and I are planning some sort of dinner get-together as a belated birthday deal. Mr. White's in; anyone else interested?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 2 March 2007 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, tomorrow night I'm going to see Brightblack Morning Light at the Great American

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 2 March 2007 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

DR. MORBIUS returns to SAN FRANCISCO, May 31-June 4

Dr Morbius, Friday, 25 May 2007 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

so in brief we think we're meeting at Toronado next Thursday as soon after 5 as you can make it. Shakey, Michael, jaxon?

Dr Morbius, Friday, 25 May 2007 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

I leave work at 4:30 and can get there by 5pm, can probably hang out for a bit before I have to get to rehearsal by 8.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 25 May 2007 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

I might be down for some of the Harryhausen too, pending other developments...

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 25 May 2007 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

cooool

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 26 May 2007 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

also, Michael, how are the Cuban sandwiches at Birley's Deli? any other recomms?

anyone ever taken the Nob Hill walking tour? Might as well as opposed to walking thru myself...

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 26 May 2007 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

I have not. I've done the hidden financial districts rooftop tour and the 1906 earthquake tour. Both of those are near. Inevitably I am the youngest person there.

Alex in SF, Saturday, 26 May 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

well, sure you are. Being post-historical is what the kidz are about!

Damn, it looks like my only option for the Nob Hill walk wd conflict with A's on Sunday. Maybe I'll do Earthquake on Monday, then.

http://www.sfcityguides.org/schedules_nov-apr.html

Someone convince jaxon this is not a baseball FAP.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

oh damn, that's the non-summer schedule... June-Sept apppears to be a dead link.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

morbs - I understand sfcityguides is the standard/best, but I discovered another option - http://www.victorianwalk.com/

four months pass...

Way early notice but will be in town twice in December -- 7th through the 9th and then again right before Xmas. It should be noted that my parents as well as my sis are going to be around for that first visit because it's my dad's birthday on the 7th; while that's going to be a family thing that evening, the rest of the weekend is open and I might just see if I can persuade my dad to consider a FAP. And then you too can ask him about Captain Kangaroo and submarines.

I have a delayed wedding reception on Saturday, alas.

Alack. (Vague ideas for brunch on Sunday too with a couple of my sis's friends, need to follow up on that.)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

I have to be available around 1 or 2 to pick up cases of wine on Sunday, but before or after might work.

Michael White, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

Noted, noted. Will drop a line.
