i will be in town on monday, planning on apartment looking and settling, but w/i the week depending on schedules, i would like a welcome to toronto fap (and shop and gallery haunt---if any of those are possible)

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't take any hostages!

Huck, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

anthony: a gallery haunt you say¿

huck: i booo you.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I'm just saying I don't want any of you guys to get shot.

Huck, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah a gallery haunt

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

As I mentioned on AIM, I'd love to get together to welcome you here, though family will be in the city from the 1st through 8th and heading off for an evening of beer and such would probably be a very bad idea for a number of reasons.

I'm definitely available after the 8th...maybe even that evening.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

if i wasn't so damn far away i'd be there! awwww, i miss the hometown sometimes. sometimes.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

any others ?

anthony, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Ant! I'm up for it - and probably Zac as well depending on his reffing schedule.

Incidentally, if you haven't found an apt yet, the site viewit.ca is sort of helpful - at least in scoping out the types of places in neighbourhoods since it has photos and prices.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This is where all the Toronto people are!

*waves*

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm totally up for it. Tuesday and Thursday nights aren't great. Otherwise my schedule's pretty open. Sorry I couldn't help you out with crash space. Hope that's been worked out for you.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey tantrum, the more the merrier!

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, Kim!

Any and all are more than welcome to drop me a line. I don't have a blog or a Friendster / MySpace thing, but I did post in the ILM "Introduce Yourselves!" thread:

Introduce Yourselves!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

For some reason reading your introduce yourself bio, Tantrum, I have the feeling I may have met you at some point. Maybe not though. Definitely show up at the FAP, wherever (and whenever) it takes place.

So do you all want to do it right away, or is the 8th okay? That's a Wednesday night. We could wait until friday the 10th. If you all want to do it sooner that's okay too, but thought I'd start throwing dates out (and selfishly leaving it later so I can attend, too.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be happy to come, Sean. Either the Wednesday or the Friday night would work fine!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I must have missed this thread when it first started ... my schedule is basically wide open. The 8th or 10th would be fine by me too.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That whole week is craptacular for me. I'll make an effort but I may be stuck at work.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

if i'm in town i will make a cameo.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

where would you be if you werent in town dyson

anthony, Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

quebec city.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

So... any developments?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The fap definitely has to happen, but please not at the Zanzibar. Sorry Anthony.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 29 August 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

you really do hate fun down to the very core, don't you sean.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 30 August 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Zanzibar? Couldn't that get, well, expensive? And won't that scare the girls (i.e. Kim) away?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

First fap I could leave richer from mind you. C'est What or similar works for me.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est What works. Also: Hey Lucy's, Betty's, The Living Well. Basically anywhere that has a decent selection of draft and a sound system that you don't need to scream over...

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

what about squirlies (since i'm probably going to be around)¿ we've never fap'd there.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 30 August 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Im still am not forgiving C'est What for getting that cockfarmer of a bouncer. Though I do congratulate them on realizing he looked like an asshat in a vest. I'll miss Ni[n?]a but rarely went there anyways.
The Zanzibar is just like any other peeler bar. Not a good place to make a first impression. with anyone.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been to C'est What, strangely enough.
I do like the Squirly's/Gypsy Co-Op area, too.
The Zanzibar is just like any other peeler bar. Not a good place to make a first impression. with anyone.
Especially when you can walk north for ten minutes and go to Brass Rail instead :)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't C'est What closed down or something? Or was it just Nia?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 30 August 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasnt really being serious about the zanzibar guys
so date time ?

anthony, Monday, 30 August 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Nia closed down. Arguement over rent I heard.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 30 August 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Noodles: what happened at C'est What???

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est What was divided into three parts: old restaurant/pub, new restaurant/pub, and the live performance space accessible via Church street (or sometimes through the swinging doors hear the head of the bar). That live performance space (aka Nia) was closed down because of an issue with the rent. My guess is they're going to wall up the space between the C'est What? old section and Nia, and then it'll just be the two restauranty sections. (I'm not as big a fan of the new section...looks a bit too hotel-bar-y but the drinks are still good and there are good memories, too.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyhow.

Let me propose this then:

C'est What? (67 Front St E, downstairs), Friday Sept 10 @ 7pm for those who want to eat something there. We're generally there for several hours so if you want to show up at 9 we'd probably still be there.

For those who haven't been there before the easiest way to get there if you're coming via subway is taking the Yonge/Spadina line down to Union station, and then heading down Front Street until you cross Yonge...it's about two long blocks east of Yonge on the south side of the street. (Directly across from a restaurant called The Hot House).

More information here: www.cestwhat.com

And yeah, looks like the landlord was going to triple the rent on the Nia side, which is why it's closed.

Anyhow, if this is okay with people I'll change the name of the thread to reflect place, date and time. If not, alternative suggestions soon, please!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 30 August 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

could we do something earlier as well, perhaps tomorrow or the day after ?

anthony, Monday, 30 August 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Friday the 10th at C'est What sounds good - I'd be rolling in after 8 PM. And I'd be up for some kind of do later this week, like Wednesday or Thursday.

I am very intrigued by you folks, and while I've done the meet-people-through-a-message-board thing before, it's usually involved me travelling, so it's kinda nice to do it on home turf. (I'm stumbling distance from C'est What.)

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 30 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

so i figure something on thursday, then something on the tenth ?

am i being creepy close ?

anthony, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Shameless Self-Promotion: Toronto UK Garage Night And Quasi-FAP This Sunday

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, omg sorry - I don't know about this thursday. I'd like to but these two weeks are suddenly insane at the ol' bank as I'm organizing an entire week of office events for 70 people that has to happen week after next, and have a presentation due next wednesday (for the paper handout, I'm currently planning to copy and paste the technical info into those 'build your own' Red Meat comic strips - dead serious). I know Zac is having troubles too - until next monday anyway as he's got a project deadline. Unless maybe it could be just dinner or something? I mean, we have to eat. You people like indian/thai food? There's a great place near the Eaton Centre (no, not the one in Atrium on Bay).

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Thai and Indian are both great by me.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 2 September 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That one in the Atrium always scares me a bit...Indian Flavor? Is it just the FLAVOR? I want real Indian FOOD. Of course, I live right near the Indian Bazaar so I can just walk up the street for that when I want it...yay!

I'm sort of blocked off until next Wednesday, as I have family in town and can't really ditch them. (I think I probably said this already). Maybe weds or thurs I can meet up if I don't have other work due by that point...still have to do my freelance work.

ANTHONY: if you like Asian food you should try a Vietnamese place at the corner of Spadina and St. Andrew (one block north of Dundas) called Pho Hung...it's got these big-ass bowls of soup for cheap, and if you get the seafood pho it's actual seafood, with tentacles and everything, not the pressed stuff you get that's made out of other fish. Definitely worth going to, though I don't know if they use MSG or not.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

haha there's an Indian Flavor on campus. It's so bizarre - I like eating there once every few months to get my fill of glow-in-the-dark post-Indian fast-food product engineering.

Anyway are you asking about tomorrow night?! That's not at all possible for me but the 10th is do-able as far as I know.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of Asian food, I can try to deliver the U of T State of Chinatown Address next week ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah sorry, tomorrow night is totally foolish - I won't even have access to this thread during the day tomorrow. For the record though, the place I meant was Matagali. Only seats about 25 people in the whole place, and it's great.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

South side of Elm, just west of Bay.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 2 September 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

That's one of those places I pass by all the time, but have never been to. I keep meaning to go, and there's really no excuse since I live five minutes from it.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 2 September 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, if I can get the time off work at 'store I'll try and come by, hope all youse well.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 2 September 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW, what's the deal with all these planes flying overhead today?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Air show tomorrow. The ones in formation are called "The Snowbirds".

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The same DJs that are playing NASA this Sunday will be at Ciao Edie's tonight, which means I'll be MCing. All are welcome to drop in and laugh at my white-boy posturing.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

how long have you been doing your thing at nasa¿ (i may have been laughing at you for a while now)

dysøn (dyson), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been sitting in with those guys on-and-off for about four years now. Usually P.O.P and Enlight do the ragga-meets-hip-hop thing and I do the white-soul-boy thing, and we trade off. So chances are that you've seen me.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 3 September 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i practically lived at the place up until 2 years ago.

dysøn (dyson), Friday, 3 September 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

You've definitely seen me, then. Pop by this Sunday!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 3 September 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i prolly won't be able to, dude.

dysøn (dyson), Friday, 3 September 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

No worries.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 3 September 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

alright the tenth it is.
i love you guys, and i love kensington market.

anthony, Friday, 3 September 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

kensington rulz. if it didn't exist i would own no cloths.

hmmm.

dysøn (dyson), Friday, 3 September 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I lives in Kensington.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 3 September 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

There are this many of us West of Yonge eh? Maybe C'est What is the wrong spot to go after all.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, looking ahead I'm finding some cheap-ass rates to Toronto in early November when I have a holiday weekend. Would you folks put up with me if I decided to visit?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

NOT WITH THE LIP YOU'RE GIVING ME ON THE DVD THREAD MISTER

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"ass rates"?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Rate du ass. See, I speak French.

Anyway, CHEAP rates, fine. But seriously, I decided to price some flights and I've found some not bad options. Would anyone dare put up with me as a guest?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

We have a septic, pee soaked alleyway just outside - you're welcome to it

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

HOORAY A WINNER IS ME!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately, I've got zero room at my place right now (plus, my roommate is moving out in Nov. and therefore I may not be in my present apartment in a couple of months) but I do expect to be around to help play host!

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Rockness. :-) Whatever happens does. I need to price another trip as well for December but if I can swing both I will.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, serious answer - unfortunately our place is very small with no extra sleep space. You can come over for dinner though.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Rah! Well the other trip is more expensive and will have to be paid for first, so basically I'll need to plan this one out a bit. More details to follow at a later date!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(Serious answer from me too: our place is also very small and there's no space for guests here either. Plus we're so far out of downtown it wouldn't be very convenient even if we did have room.)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

When you come we should just stay out reallllly late at the pub, so you won't even need a place to sleep.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

A very bibulous option.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Imbibuous, too.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Bibulous is such a strange word...it seems to equate drinking with Godliness. But I suppose that's nothing new...if I recall correctly the Japanese often have walls built out of old wine casks just outside the temples, as they consider sake a way to get closer with their gods.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Clearly they are truly more in touch with their surroundings.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm suddenly feeling very spiritual. (spirits - omg!)

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Grimstitch in Spirited Away. With Mr. Noodles as the dragon kid, me as the frog dude and Crudderz as the stink god.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Stinky heheh.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 4 September 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Whose the Radish? I proclaim Sundar to be.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 4 September 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

And who plays the soot balls?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Those who don't make it to Faps.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 4 September 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a radish?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 4 September 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

http://wwwsshe.murdoch.edu.au/intersections/issue9/images/broderick6.jpg
He's the most rockist character in the movie.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 4 September 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Because he looks like David Crosby?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 4 September 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the cooliest character in the movie.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 4 September 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Still haven't seen that.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 4 September 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i notice we have ignored the request to see art, i would like to be at the opening of the following shows, if anyone would like to join me, they can.

Mark Lambert at AGO, its all about who controls the world, but in overly detailed diagrams, with love. LOVE! (and also hate) Sept. 8th 6 to 8 pm

James Gardner cute little drawing type things of interglatic robots, sort of poppy, really indie--at AWOL on 76 Ossington, this is the date of the FAP, but at 7 pm--dont know the city that well, is this doable ?

Lindy Fyfe-- if Gyson and Richter drank Cava and ate tapas in june in a barcelona antiler, while discussing the nature of lingustic abstraction, this would be fyfe, but sweeter, with cooler (as in hip) colours.
thats on the 9th, 774 queen street west.

who wants to see the art ?

anthony, Saturday, 4 September 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

76 ozzington is certainly doable when one* has a car.

*me

dysøn (dyson), Saturday, 4 September 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

are you making a suggestion dyson ?

anthony, Saturday, 4 September 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

sure.
i like the ago idea aswell.

dysøn (dyson), Saturday, 4 September 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there an admission cost for the AGO event?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 5 September 2004 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I live near AGO, so I'd be up fer checking that.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

General admission to the AGO is $12 according to www.ago.net; if you have a valid student card it's $9. There may be an extra admission to special exhibits, but it doesn't say anything on the website so maybe not.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

can I get in on this FAP action? i just moved back to the GTA after 5 years away. Hi Sean, Noodles!

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

No one needs permission, least of all you, Dave. C'monnnnn down!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

On Friday I'm probably going to be either early or late. Have to do some stuff at work until at least 5:30 which leaves an awkward chunk of time to fill that's not easily enough to go home - I may do so anyway though. Even my day off has been stressful. Boo. I need a beer or a hug - or a beer that'll hug me. Yay to more people though!

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll show up earlier, Kimmo. If you want. Other people are welcome to come earlier too, as well! Everyone come and hug the Kim!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe meet me there at 6:30 then Sean? The work stuff may take longer than I think, and I can always go for a walk or something if I'm still early.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Why don't we just make the FAP for 8:30 or 9? Getting to the other end of town for 6 pm (? xpost - 6:30) on Friday night seems a little much.

xpost: But if that's what you prefer, then maybe I'll join you later on.

I think I'm going to miss out on the AGO thing tomorrow, sorry.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm at work until 8:00 PM on Friday, so I'd be able to make it to C'est What for 8:30.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll be too busy today for the ago.
but i'm stil down for awol friday followed by some hot fap action.

dysøn (dyson), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, unless your heart is set on the earlier meeting Sean, 8 or later is sounding ok to me as well. I might welcome the chance to come home to get the office stink off me.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I can make it to C'est What at 8.
It occured to me that none of you know what I look like (hence making it difficult to recognize each other at a FAP). I also don't know what most of you look like, so here's a link to some pics of me on my website at work:
http://lphys.chem.utoronto.ca/~bruner/Pictures.html
Definitely not the clearest pictures, but that's all I've got at the moment.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no recent pictures of me, either, but I've seen pics of Kim, Sean, and Sundar, so I'll just keep an eye out for you guys.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You look really different from what I imagined.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.geocities.com/sundar_subramanian2001/sundarkim

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 9 September 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Confirmation: tomorrow, 8-8:30, C'est What? I hope we should be easy to recognize now.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, I'll be looking for people in Santa hats who are barely sober enough to keep their bodies upright. :)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 9 September 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

That's Thurston Moore at the top of that group of images.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 9 September 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

See ya there at 8. On the offchance anyone's seeing Tommy Stinson at the Horsehoe tonight: FATSP?

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 9 September 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

wednesday night is free at the ago, sorry i missed you guys.
wouldnt mind seeing awol tonite, even w. you dyson (email me and we will sort but the fap will be difficult for me, as the bank has decided to fuck me over w/o lube (ie money is a week late & my account is frozen because i cant prove where i live)

anthony, Friday, 10 September 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

problem solved, see ya'll at 8

anthony, Friday, 10 September 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

bring teh lube.

dysøn (dyson), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay folks, I'm heading out the door now, so should be there by 630ish, if anyone else wants to come early. Cheerios.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 10 September 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Guys, this is probably weird as I've just recently discovered these boards (and because I'm without net access at the moment haven't even bothered to post) but I thought I might drop by your FAP if thats OK. I'm fairly new to the city and haven't met too many people outside school/work. So anyway, see you tonight maybe.

Colleen D, Friday, 10 September 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

See you all in a couple of hours!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 10 September 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Colleen -- cool, come by if you can. From the looks of it, several of the people planning to go tonight have never met each other either. So if you're worried about not knowing anybody, don't be.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 10 September 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

fap report #1: anthony has just arrived. barry, tantrum, dyson, kim, noodles and daveM already here. dyson has just removed his pants. the fap is proceding apace.
(dave and barry are averting their eyes.)

sean c via cel, Friday, 10 September 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Please send me a text the moment Noodles puts on lipstick.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 10 September 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

no lipstick yet. but sundar's also not here. we're worried that he may have been kidnapped by gnomes along the way...a fap without sundar is no fap at all really.

sean c via cell, Saturday, 11 September 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

We were eventually Sundarstruck and the entire bar was violently rocked by the power of his entrance. The tremors were responsible for spilling Colleen's drink.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 11 September 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks to everyone for coming out...it was actually the best turnout we've ever had, I think! Sorry you weren't able to stick around a bit later, Chuck!

Hope you enjoyed yourself, Colleen, and sorry didn't get more of a chance to talk. And I hope the rest of the crue didn't scare you after Anthony and I took off.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

As luck would have it, I already knew dyson through a mutual friend (WORD), and I'd seen (but not actually met) Colleen on-campus during my post-secondary years (note to Colleen : POST MORE OFTEN).

Anyway, good times all around - you're a fun bunch, and I'd totally be up for doing this again!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 11 September 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I really must come to Toronto, yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 September 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yes.
that or toronto will come to you.
and you don't want that.

so it was nice meeting/remeeting you all last night.
a good time was indeed had. a bunch of us went to st.james park after and made yet another friend.

& sorry about the sugar kim - i felt bad when i woke up¡

dysøn (dyson), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Kim probably felt SUGAR when she woke up.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(double xpost)

It was fun. Really nice to meet so many new and cool people.

I hope the rest of the crue didn't scare you after Anthony and I took off.

I think the scariest thing might have been the hobo who claimed he was a heavyweight boxing champion, gave dyson shots to the kidneys and tried to get Barry drunk. Unless my stupefied ravings were worse.

But, yes, definitely props to Colleen for being brave enough to come out and face the Toronto ILx massive. Looking forward to seeing more of you on the board.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

barry was even braver for drinking the hobo rum¡

dysøn (dyson), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I cannot deny any of this.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, this sounds intriguing...what happened? This wasn't INSIDE C'est What, was it? If so, CLASSIC

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Exactly what Sundar said ... we were sitting around the fountain in the park and the hobo came around and started talking with us. At most, 25% of his words were intelligible.

I don't even like rum, which adds to the mystery of why I actually drank the stuff.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

didn't anyone stab him?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

They're Canadians, not Australians. Wrong colony.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

yes - I FELT SUGAR when I woke up.

I also felt incredibly hungover. Apparently Creemore does not agree with me as well as teh lighter beers. My most drunkenest FAP evah. I had a great time though you guys - very nice meeting everyone new (or just new to me). And welcome to T.O. Ant!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Sundar, if you want the full-sized version of that photo of you for your press kit or something, let me know.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

can i get it poster size¿

dysøn (dyson), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Slip me some cash and anything is possible.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ew.

dysøn (dyson), Saturday, 11 September 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Tantrum was like a one-man jukebox!

Weren't there pictures with Kim and Noodles in them?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 11 September 2004 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried to get a shot but Kim put up her hand like she was actually in town as a special guest of the Film Festival, and we were interrupting her dinner or something.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 11 September 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't there a shot where we all were looking at the camera? Or maybe that's the one posted above.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 11 September 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

We don't need more pictures of me and my tea towels.
Sundar should just quit his studies and become the world's first indie rockist photo model.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 11 September 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Sundar, after seeing your new Noel Gallagher do, I just felt it would be wrong to sully the photo album with my "bad hair day" rat's nest.

I'm noticing now that Colleen kind of looks like another friend of mine. It's kind of odd how familiar *everyone* seemed actually, or on second thought, maybe that was just the influence of the 'evil' Creemore.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 12 September 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be in back in Toronto for all of December. Hopefully y'all will have some sort of FAP action around then. These UK ILXors are a nice bunch, but they smell like wee.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Sunday, 12 September 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man, Creemore is so fantastic I want to MARRY it. Yummy.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 12 September 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You can go right ahead Stinky, I'm DONE with the Creemore. It should consider it's beery ass dumped.

Oh and hey, we're possibly, maybe, sort of thinking about having a little get together here sometime - a long overdue housewarming of sorts. Maybe in October. Will anyone be interested? Possibly we'll even ply youse guys with free food and a moderate amount of liquor. Or if there's a good show on some night - maybe a warm up.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 12 September 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

will there be sugar¿

dysøn (dyson), Monday, 13 September 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I only keep a box of Sweet n' Low actually - y'know, for self defence.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 13 September 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened with sugar?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 13 September 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Long story short - it went down my top (I kind of deserved it though)

Kim (Kim), Monday, 13 September 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and hey, we're possibly, maybe, sort of thinking about having a little get together here sometime
I refuse to visit until you take back what you said about CREEMORE.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Monday, 13 September 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

But the bitch done me wrong.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 13 September 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Will anyone be interested?

Count me in. That is, if you'll have me!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 13 September 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Late response, but I just wanted to say it was great meeting everyone last week, y'all are really nice.

Dyson, How was the AGO exhibit?

Colleen D, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Sat. I am having a brunchy thing at Vienna Cafe, on Queen St West and Markham, it starts at noon.

I have called Kim, Colleen, Dyson and Sean, with limited success (kim wrong number, dyson wrong number, colleen you rawk!) it will feature other people, non ilxors, including perhaps a boy who may like me,

i would like you to come, but i need you to call to rsvp, (i have my phone here, but not my number, whichmakes me an idiot, to even post this message--i will give you my number on this thread tomorrow.)

btw, my review of the lombardi show is on brown wedge. read it.

anthony, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

sunday not sat. sunday.

anthony, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I gave you the wrong number? sorry! did it go *** 345 ****? cause the 345 should be 817 now. I keep getting it confused with my old number. And my voicemail has no ID message - so if it doesn't say it's me, it isn't necessarily wrong.

I'm not sure I can make it though. We have plans on Sunday that are probably going to conflict. Boo.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

im confused.
why dont you email me, because even w. plans, we should do something.

anthony, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Tentatively I think Sunday should be OK.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm really confused. where did you get this supposed number for me¿

sunday is poo for me aswell. i have a frisbee game and then (since it's my b-day next week) i'm off to stupid oakville to see the fam.

dysøn (dyson), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy birthday in advance. How old are you?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

on the buisness card you gave me, the sexy one filled with sexiness

anthony, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

My business card was sexier because it was see-thru.

I got your message on my cell voicemail, anthony...I wasn't there when you called (phone was charging) and it didn't tell me there was voicemail until after I read yr post. I don't think I'm going to be available on Sunday. We have to do another get-together soonish though. Also I have to ask you about vegetarian-style restaurants in Edmonton, things around the uni that may cater to people with health issues.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW, I should note that I finally was able to wash off the last vestiges of the "DYSON RULZ" tattoo that was carved into my left forearm with a ball-point pen.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG... hahahaha

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

What time-ish Sunday?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I'm late to discover this thread update ... but I cannot attend this Sunday ... I hope everyone enjoys themselves!

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

noon.
(also, where is dave--he should come, i have paper with words on it for him.)

anthony, Thursday, 16 September 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck Tatum in looking confusedly at drink SHOCKER

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks more to me like he's scowling because dyson's trying to take it away from him!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That's dyson¿¿¿ He looks like some kind of...country rocker. No wonder Chuck wanted to sit next to him.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I was planning on being in Toronto in spring, by the way. It looks like that may not happen now though.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

BOO URNS! If we have another SARS scare we may get cheap flights again. Nothing like 20 dollar flights from Montreal/NYC/Winnipeg to Toronto or whatever it was they were offering. With all the taxes and tariffs it was probably more like 100 but still.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Canadians make me laugh with their "natural sense of humor".

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that racist?

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm wearing a bowling shirt.

dysøn (dyson), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

a little bit country, a little bit rock n roll.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately it looks like tomorrow will be hard for me as well, Anthony. We should all get together again some time though.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

next week, same time same place

anthony, Monday, 20 September 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Anthony, have you been to Sneaks yet? We should do half-price fajita Tuesday!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 20 September 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely!
Most Tuesdays, I go to Sneaks. Been doing it for years!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

And Soundscapes.. so close by! I am 86.9% sure I can be there this Tues.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

soundscapes is great! hi guys

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes I try to roughly calculate how much money I have spent at Sneaks over the last few years. And I shudder. Then I imagine how much I would have spent if I had been drinking somewhere else. And I feel much better.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 20 September 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Great timing guys, real fucking great. OK, seriously, what time Tuesday (and what Tues) are you thinking? See, I normally have martial arts on campus till 8:30 or 9 that night. Except I might be starting a job that evening which means it's still not free unless you're thinking real late or real early. And in case I am planning on heading downtown after all this Tuesday night madness, the Ambient Ping is pretty tempting so, uh, what were you thinking again?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 20 September 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is Ping now that C'est What's closed that spot off?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 20 September 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hey - that's my b'day¡ i will be ripping shit up somewhere in the city with my friends a little later that night if anyone feels like joining us.

dysøn (dyson), Monday, 20 September 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I usually try to get to Sneak's early on Tuesday to make sure we can get a spot...like 6 or 6:30. If you go late you end up waiting for forever and if it's a larger group you wait even longer.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 20 September 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm...1/2pricefajitassneakyd... closetokensington...hmm

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Monday, 20 September 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Just checked in...anthony's in on this, and he and I are going to meet up at 6pm. I strongly encourage anyone else who wants to be in on this to arrive as close to 6pm as possible to make sure we get enough seats before the crush of people show up. I think everyone knows each other by now, but I'll probably try to get tables near the back so we have a bit of room to expand.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

shit. i forgot -- am working. never mind. but sneaky's is v near me, so anytime in the future...

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

CURSE YOU CHUCK

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

:)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ping's at the Gladstone now. No way can I make this. Happy birthday dyson.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

If it wasn't for Sneaks, I would probably go to Ping once in a while.

6 is earlier than my usual, but I'll be there -- I'll eat a light lunch!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

still think i'm in - Stinky, I always seem to forget which phone number you use, so maybe call me tomorrow after 4? ok see ya.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

This is probably stretching it, but I'll drop by round 1030 when I'm off work. I live opsit Last Tempatation on Kensington, so if anyone fancies a late one there, either...

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to meet a client for dinner.
after that i will be getting smashed - enjoying the last night of the summer - on the patio of the dunn right inn.
so... ya... guess i can't make it.

dysøn (dyson), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

so wish me a happy fucking birthday now motherfuckers¡

dysøn (dyson), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Happy Birthday Motherfucker!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

happy b-day mang

sorry we missed you chuck - it was just a two pint night tonight it seems. Anthony has found the joys of soundscapes now though. Sorry will his pocketbook be.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Dyson: happy birthday. I hope someone tweaked your nipples for you.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Dang, I'm tied up for the rest of this week. Is there a Sunday thing happening or not?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Happy Belated, Mr. Dyson!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
Hey y'all -- a quick invite, if y'interested. Me girlfriend Sheila will be doing a lecture at Trampoline Hall at Sneaky D's next Monday, so just wondering if anyone wants to come by. Tix go on sale at Soundscapes on Thursday, 'tho I think it usually sells out. Sheila will be speaking about Mudlarks -- people who scavenge from rivers (especially the Thames). She is nervous but it will be good.

Otherwise, hope alls well. (PS Sorry I keep missing you Anthony -- will call in week.)

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i kept worrying that i was being ignored cause i wasnt cool enough.

awesomeness.

anthony, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i kept worrying that i was being ignored cause i wasnt cool enough.

Pull up a chair, sir.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of ignoring, anthony...I got your message from the weekend; we actually took a weekend off and just chilled so I didn't getcher message until later. (I've been so busy this past couple weeks I just needed downtime, so all of the devices were turned off.) We definitely have to talk again soon, maybe later next week when I get done with my current batch of deadlines.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Sean, where do you live?

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't make the Sneaky's thing, but I'm thinking of hitting Ciao Edie's on Friday the 22nd, as a little pre-birthday jaunt. I'll be turning the big 3-0 at around
1-ish that Saturday morning. Anyone interested? I've already got the actual birthday proceedings covered, so this would just be a warmup.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

In an apartment, Jon!

Actually, it's out in the east end of Toronto...not tooo far from where the RochesterToronto ferry docks...yeah, at that shack we call a terminal.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

we should FAP it up sometime

sometimes i like to pretend i am very small and warm (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

If you come up, we can probably arrange a FAP or something. At the very least I'll show you the two best stores to look for Boredoms albums.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

You guys are totally cool! Email me and stuff. I'm just distracted by trying to find a new job right now. I HAVE to quit the one I've got or someone is going to get hurt. Seriously guys, seriously. I still want to have people over by the way, just might have to be in Nov instead. Wah. Beer. Me. Wah....

Is the 22nd next week's friday? Maybe? I think I was supposed to have an office party at the Sheraton that night - But I hardly want to go.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you talking about this event on the 17th (from the Music Gallery's site - www.musicgallery.org - couldn't find anything for the 18th)? I think I can make it. It sounds good. I don't know any of the pieces. Do you know the musicians?:

anthony, Thursday, 14 October 2004 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to Kim: Yes, the 22nd is next week's Friday. Any and all are welcome.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

New Brunswick's pre-eminent new music group.

LARF!

andy warhols dracula is on the 18th at the cineforum.

I had this on vhs at one point. I think we taped over it with backyard wrestling which was more useful to the advancement of the human race.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 15 October 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, so much is going on ... I'm going to add to it: there are loads of wicked gigs coming up in the next few weeks. I am going to
Singapore Sling -- Oct 18
The Delgados -- Oct 23
Do Make Say Think -- Oct 26
Mouse on Mars/Ratatat/Junior Boys -- Oct 27
Black Dice/Animal Collective -- Nov 11

Anyone else planning to go to (any of) these?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I am. Delgados, Do Say Make Think and (probably) Mouse On Mars all look like good shows.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 16 October 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

How much is MoM?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Sunday, 17 October 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be up for MoM / Junior Boys too. $15 is totally reasonable.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

im up for black dice but i dont know animal collective.
does anyone want to gallery haunt a week from yesterday ?

anthony, Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be seeing the Delgados :)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I may well go to Mouse on Mars. Do they have something new out? I didn't even know. K-Os is also playing on the 28th at the Opera House. I don't have a ticket and don't know if they're still available.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 17 October 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds me: I must listen to the Junior Boys disc in its entirety. I bought it two weeks ago and I'm only 3 tracks into it.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm Delgados.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a new MoM album, but I haven't heard it yet either. I haven't heard all of "Last Exit" either, although I have seen JB's live already (they sound exactly like they do on record).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 October 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not heard the new MoM but have heard good things about it. I've seen both them and the Junior Boys live - neither exactly blew my mind but I'm still willing to see MoM (don't really care for seeing the Junior Boys again).

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, is the Ciao Edie thing still go for tomorrow? If I feel any better than I do tonight, there's a good chance that we'll be around. What time is good?

Unfortunately looks like I'm out for the Delgados due to the forgotten prior engagement with ze wine tasting.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 22 October 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

And there is Elevator at the El Mo. And Greenfield Main at Wavelength. Whole lot of exNBs around this weekend.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 22 October 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

All this Toronto talk makes me homesick!

I'm going to be there for all of December - I hope I can meet some of you fine folks for a beverage somewhere. And since the thread title reminded me - does C'est What exist any more? I knew Nia closed, but then someone told me that C'est What was gone too! I feel bad because I told some people I met on a plane to go there. Is there still that big tower-thingy down by the water?

Oh yeah, some friends and I will be having a big-ass party at some point too (the sequel to last year's little shin-dig). You are all of course invited to come join in the shenanigans. I'll start a seperate thread closer to the time with the scoop...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! I remember those Global Pop parties!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est What still exists, physically. It's not the same anymore sadly. The Shepards Pie and the Baja eggrolls are still wonderfulness.

It now has a bouncer!
Though I have to give them a little credit, he's starting to blend in a bit better.
I don't feel like going into it here but thats the end result.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow Thermo - were you one of the six people that actually came to our nights at the Korean place on Bloor? Hi!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You're just mad because the bouncer tried to make you sit at the bar last time we FAP'd there.

I think next time we go to C'est What we should make a point of sitting in the OLD section, and ordering multiple orders of beer pie. I like the new section okay, but it still has a whiff of hotel bar to it.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

It was in the basement of some place at Spadina and Harbourd (sp?).
xpost

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, I never chimed in but I'm going to have to take a pass on tonight's festivities. Life has been tooooo busy, I need some time to catch up at home. Happy Birthday and shit, though!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy CRAP Thermo - that was our first event! The place was sPaHa. We were kinda pissed because we couldn't play the music too loud since they had been in trouble with that residence building earlier in the week, and wanted to keep things quiet. Bah!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 22 October 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to pass on tonight, too. I drank WAY too much last night at some physics department thing (unintentional drunkenness, I was only expecting to go out for an hour or so, it turned into seven hours). My internal alarm clock, which is truly a biological marvel, somehow woke me up in time for a meeting this morning that I had completely forgotten about when I went to bed (which I also don't remember doing). So I went in to work for the meeting (which turned out to be rather useless), despite not being sure which of my bodily functions were going to explode first. Then I came back home and slept for two hours. The rest of the day will be spent trying to find my most recent CV, which I have completely misplaced somehow.
Happy Birthday Tantrum!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I may be able to come tonight if it's not too late to ask for info. When? Where is Ciao Edie? Are you still coming, Kim?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ciao Edie is on College street just a few blocks west of Bathurst, on the south side.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 22 October 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I amn't. I am sick like dog. Kind of. I feel hellishly crummy anyway so made the call to be staying in. Have a happy b-day Ian - I'll buy you a drink at the next FAP!

Kim (Kim), Friday, 22 October 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ya - happy b-day Ian.
What are you sick with Kim? I think I have strep throat or something. I feel like a can of crushed assholes!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 23 October 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I just feel really dazed and dopey - achey, all that fun stuff. I'm not sure about the can of crushed assholes though. Unless you were just expressing an unrealted craving there? uh..

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 October 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

unrealted = unrelated

(proof of the dopey)

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 23 October 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, couldn't come out tonight. Happy birthday Tantrum.

If you guys are still planning on going to Mouse On Mars, maybe we should arrange to meet before the show somewhere? Provided tickets are still available.

(Is Thermo Thinwall a new nick for someone familiar? Or are you new? In which case, welcome.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 23 October 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be guessing Thermo is dyson if it wasn't for the lack of upside-down punctuation.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Saturday, 23 October 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

*Ahem*
*Rolls up sleeves*
...... ¡

I got tickits for Do Make Say Think & MoM on Friday - I'd imagine there should still be some left. I'd be down for meeting up before MoM.

Hopefully I'll see some of you guys at the Delgados tonight.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 23 October 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be at Delgados too ... anyone else?

How about meeting at Paupers before the MoM gig? I don't know what time the bands start ... typical for Lee's is 9:45-10:00 for the first band (which I'm assuming is Junior Boys, and we'll all want to see them), so how about Paupers at 8 PM?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 23 October 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's Paupers?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 23 October 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe it's a block or two east of Lee's, also on the south side of Bloor, on a corner (I always forget the exact location, I can pay closer attention on the way to Delgados tonight!).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 23 October 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

And I just realized about 15 min ago that tonight's Delgados gig is an early one ... doors open at 7 PM. Just a heads up so nobody gets burned (as I almost did).
I'm actually happy about this because now I'll get to see the end of GAME 1.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 23 October 2004 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Thermo and I caught an *amazing* Delgados gig tonight ...
Once more, before Tuesday's gig, I suggest meeting at Paupers beforehand at 8 PM. Ignore my earlier post ... it's 1/2 block WEST of Lee's Palace, at 539 Bloor West.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 24 October 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

'Twas a great show indeed. It's a shame tho, that there was another show afterwards and they couldn't have played longer.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 25 October 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey guys, haven't been online at all this weekend. The Ciao Edie's b-day warmup thing turned out to be a really quiet thing - just me MCing with the DJ to about 8 people, two of whom also had birthdays. Ended up going back to someone's house with the lot of them for booze and dub reggae. Stayed there until about 5 AM.

The for-really-real birthday get-together was the following night. About a dozen of my nearest and dearest were there, many of whom had never met before, so that was interesting in and of itself. Good times all around.

Thanks for your birthday wishes - let's FAP soon!!!

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Monday, 25 October 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Once more, before Tuesday's gig
Geez, how many dumb mistakes have I made on this thread? The MoM gig is tomorrow (Wednesday) -- today is the DMST gig. Is anyone going besides me and Thermo?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, forgot. BOO URNS!
I still haven't seen DMST since Sackville in 98.
And I got hockey tomorrow.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

So, confirming that we're meeting tomorrow at 8 at Pauper's?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Nobody cares about hockey anymore, Noodles. It's true, they confirmed it yesterday on the American sports media. Come to DMST instead.

I'm leaving now, band's on at 10 ...

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Sundar ... yes, confirmed. 2nd floor at Paupers. 539 Bloor, just west of Lee's.

I may be there a bit earlier ... perhaps getting something to eat there with another friend. Will update tomorrow ...

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Am running slightly late, should be there in an hour.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Sundar, how's the Ratatat album?

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 28 October 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. There's none of the feedback that they opened and closed with and it doesn't feel as rock as the live set might have. In a weird way, it makes me think of King Crimson - I think it's the guitar tone and the organ sounds + some of the riffs and time changes although it's obviously a bit more spacious, the beats have a bit more groove/dance to them, and it has softer parts and a more sentimental post-rocky vibe at parts. They're really good at manipulating the synth and guitar sounds (e.g. with volume swells) so they blend totally into each other. It has a lot of high and middle end, which is a sound that I could see a lot of people finding grating but I like it. I like the MoM album too.

Dec 1, around noon, there will be a free concert of my compositions at the Music Gallery featuring pro performers, which is a first for me. I know daytime is hard for most people but it would be great if anyone could make it.
