best thread ever

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Sunday, 16 January 2005 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

it certainly is! (xpost and well, to both previous posts really)

CUTEST

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I just see some whisper thin clove-cigarette smoking dressed in black drama student hoisting some big ass round thing. Ken C is the Bowie of his time and place.

"THIS AIN'T BOWLING, THIS IS PERFORMANCE ART!"

*cheers of happy crowd*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

god i love kenneth chu

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

We all love him but he only loves himself. THE PERV

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

aww i love you too. come and go bowling with me roxy and ned.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

way to ruin it

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to love bowling in a league, but my knees gave out.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahahaha

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

::pout::

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry the laughter was xpost!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

what happened to the knees dude? are there like knee support you can wear that might help?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I like bowling and cloves!
let's be friends

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

come bowling with me then!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'd be okay if I wore my knee brace and started off just a couple of games a day, but the last time I bowled (with some bowling-mad friends visiting from London, wouldn't you know), my right knee was in misery for a week. I donated my shoes, ball and case to the Salvation Army years ago anyway.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

once i bowled a 17.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Monday, 17 January 2005 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

so who's coming? londoners? non-londoners? come one, come all.

Let's try that again, it's worth it.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

haha. apparently i always wiggle my bum just before I start the approach. the thought of that put me off for a couple of games, but now i do it deliberately to put others off their games.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

there's still a distinct lack of actual bowling plans formed on this thread.

I bet the londoners are all thinking that this is an actual thread about the SUPER BOWL and thus are avoiding it like Janet Jackson's right boob!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were in London, I'd be all over this, kneez or no kneez. Bowling = an excuse to drink beer. Having an excuse to drink beer in a place with better beer = CLASSIC.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah totally! i once went to this bowling place in Chicago that served beer in bowling pin shaped bottles!!! with a crazy owner who gave us free games as a result of answering his 70s pop quiz all wrong.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm also hopefully going to be joining a bowling league soon with my flatmate! we're gonna get UNIFORMS and everything!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to suggest we actually go bowling on 6TH FEB to coincide with the actual SUPER BOWL. but then realised that i'll either be in York or Hong Kong at the time and definitely not london.

So maybe the weekend before like the Saturday, 29th Jan?????? Nobody wants to play???????

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

How many bowling alleys are there in the London area now? When my friends were over visiting (summer 2000) they said two or three.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

there's surprisingly few of them around given london's size. i know of about 6 around. but i have yet to find a place with decent, well kept lanes as yet. (The ones at Surrey Quays was alright as far as i remember, but it takes around an hour to get there from my house!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

God I miss the AMF in Nottingham.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

So is the camden road bowling team going to be called the Gutterpunks?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the pinheads?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the Alien Lanes?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

CALL YOURSELF "THE SUPERB OWLS".

Do it.

DO IT.

oh so cold here, Monday, 17 January 2005 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, just having lanes isn't enough, they have to be well maintained or it's misery trying to bowl on them. I refused to bowl on the lanes at my university's student center because they conditioned them ONCE A YEAR, MAYBE, TOPS. The owner of Rebelanes in Tupelo is an asshole, but he's a conscientious asshole, and the lanes were always in good condition and hooked consistently when I bowled in a league.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha gutterpunks!! omg that's a good one - and maybe co-incide with my idea of wearing jumpsuits as uniforms! matt's up for that idea but I haven't run through the bit about setting our bowling balls on fire with him just yet.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

haha you guys come up with good ones.. Pinback? Split Decisions??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Irritable Bowl Syndromes?????

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Could Well Be Pin??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Split but you know it!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Splitalfield Market Vendors

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Camilla Parker Bowlers!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You are obsessed, sir.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

that one's rubbish ned!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously the only other londoner who has posted on this thread was Ed. I wonder if it really is because everyone avoided the SUPER BOWL or if they just hate bowling in london.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

honestly! haha.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

when then?

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

post first, read later steve :)

I was going to suggest we actually go bowling on 6TH FEB to coincide with the actual SUPER BOWL. but then realised that i'll either be in York or Hong Kong at the time and definitely not london.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

shall we add something thread title to indicate the date and also the fact that this isn't to do with american football???

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

29th is good for me i think

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

great! and hopefully now that it mentions LONDON the londoners will come pouring in.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

or maybe not!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

everyone's just to scared about being pwned ken, never mind...

either that or they still think it's a superbowl thread...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

silly londoners...

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I went by that bowling place on the bus the other night. It looked very scary. Especially the videofeed on the outside of the bar! I don't want strangers on the 4 watching me bowl!

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I will come!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I will come and own ken.

Rowans I take it?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah rowans is good! yay archel and ed and stevem! kate it's not scary at all, the other day in there some random guy started talking to me and it turned out that i helped him with his digital camera months before and he remembered me!! (I helped him change the language setting from English to French)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/comics/Zippy_the_Pinhead_Color.dtl

Another Zippy bowling strip today. Hotlinking didn't work yesterday and I don't feel like hosting another one, so there it is.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on, is bowling a sport or a game? Because participating in Sport is against my religion. If it's a game, however, I might be persuaded to come along and get drunk and offer friendly encouragement. (Though I'm unlikely to do any of the pwning myself.)

Masonic Boom-Boom (kate), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it's only a sport when it's done in a league. at rowans whilst drinking beer it's totally a game. (the drinking, however, often becomes a sport)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

if i beat ken it's a sport, if he beats me it's only a game and i wasn't ready

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

haha game it is then.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I imagine I'll be on for this - and Archel coming is a definite added incentive, of course.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

are we talking afternoon or evening as i am going to see MJ HIBBETT in the evening?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like you to be there so i'm up for bowling around 4pm

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

if that's not too late in the afternoon

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

where's MJ HIBBETT playing?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't come! :(

(Wow a car just crashed outside my house!)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect there will be a football match on Sky after 5, so I'd prefer later, but this is negotiable (I mean, I haven't checked - might not be one, might be Norwich vs Palace or something...).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

what if it's earlier than 4 (e.g. 2) so it's a pre-footie bowling? the format worked quite well for 51n15t3r bowling events...

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, in fact it's a cup weekend, and at 12.30 we have Southampton-Portsmouth, which could be a bore, then at 5.20 there is Exeter or Man Utd vs Middlesbrough - why did Carsmile not highlight this? Surely he doesn't assume Exeter won't make it? Anyway, certainly I would be up for meeting in a pub to watch the first game, then going bowling for a few hours, then returning to a pub for the second game! But there is no reason this should be built around me, obviously, and I'm not saying I won't show if there is a clash with TV football.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

p.s. rowans normally shows football on their screen.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess earlier is better then i.e. 2pm...are Arsenal at home on the day?

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

They are.. it's only vs Wolverhampton for the FA Cup though.

Are you guys EXCITED yet??? Ahh.. the prospects of being pwn3d!!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I might come to this.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

if i can crash somewhere i'd come up to bowl that weekend

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

You're welcome to crash at mine, Hari - I'm a 20-minute bus ride from the venue, and have a mattress in one of my spare rooms. And a sofabed in the living room, if you prefer that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

awesome, i will definately see if i can get a train ticket and come up.

(since i just got given an overdraft to spend)

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 21 January 2005 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yay hari!

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we talking early afternoon then? That is certainly better for me as it is Not Fun travelling back from Finsbury Pk to Brighton late on a Saturday night.

Archel (Archel), Sunday, 23 January 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yup let's confirm this...

2pm! 29th jan, london, meet at finsbury pk station or inside rowans. woot!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 23 January 2005 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

job's a good 'un!

(MJ HIBBETT is playing at the bull & gate)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 January 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll at least stop in to say hello, as it's just a short stroll from my house. i haven't seen you folks in ages (brief glimpse of stevem at 4am saturday doesn't count).

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 24 January 2005 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, early bowling sounds good. Have to go see a corporate pantomime after though :(

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(brief glimpse of stevem at 4am saturday doesn't count)

yeah i was sad that we didn't get chance to chat but on the other hand it was during Vitalic's relentless audio bombardment P.S. who's ass do i have to kiss to blag the End VIP bar?

Have to go see a corporate pantomime after though

this sounds great, "The boss is giving me a promotion!" "OH NO HE ISN'T" etc.

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

the vip bar was a downer, steve. i sat for too long before going to down to see vitalic and all the drink had a chance to to kick in and kick my ass. by the time i saw you i was like someone out of a cartoon with tweeties going around my head and a big jug labelled "XXX". i should have stayed put dancing with the common folk.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 24 January 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh that's odd Liz, it's Matt's work panto on Saturday too.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 24 January 2005 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I'll be bowling as I fancy a lazy Saturday which does not include trekking up to Finsbury Park to get my arse kicked again. I am planning on seeing MJ HIBBETT in the evening though, so if anyone is still milling around in the evening maybe there could be pintage in the B&G or the Pineapple or somewhere.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 January 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

we should look for a pub with bookshelves, you know.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

we can thusly shout at the bar owner: "THIS IS NOT A LIBRARY"

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

what do y'all bowl on average?

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, I'm at about 90! I am rub.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm only like 110-115

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 24 January 2005 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been bowling ca. 100 lately.
I had a good game the other day where I hit 136, though.

MY FAVOURITE LIGHTER IS CHEESEBURGER (trigonalmayhem), Monday, 24 January 2005 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i average normally 1 pin over stevem's total ;)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I normally beat Ken in game one, getting 130-160, then lose by about 80 points in game 2, after which I lose interest and go and get sweaty on the DDR machine.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Er any word on what time this is? PS this evening some mentalists from OTHER PLACES on the internet are ALSO going to be at Rowans from abt 6ish - madness.

PS I am going to see MJ Hibbett too :)

Sarah C, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

2pm.

also there are NO OTHER PLACES ON THE INTERNET, ile has always been at war with lj etcetc.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

ile only pretends there are no other places on the internet because they lost 8-0 vs sinister at football......

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I will prob just be up for pre-MJH plans actually but we can sort those out later innit.

Sarah C, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I just remembered the 5 strikes in a row glory while bowling with carsmile a couple of years back. omg those were the days.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you have to pay to get into Rowans if you're not bowling? I might have a go on the DDR machines, though ISTR paying money last time (tho I admit I wz rather drunk).

Sarah C, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, one english pound for the priviledge of getting through the door...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

what an amazing door tho

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I htink you have to give them a pound to cross the threshold. xpost

I may come along to this, depending on how much I drink the night before. I am rubbish at bowling but it's almost worth it for the surprise of joy that comes with the occasional strike or spare.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

NOBODY FUCK WITH DA JESUS

Stevem On X (blueski), Friday, 28 January 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

So, see you at Finsbury Park at 2 then? I just remembered I can't bowl for shit but never mind.

Archel at school, Friday, 28 January 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yup finsbury park at 2pm! yay archel returns!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 January 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Are we meeting at the station? I mean, I'm not that keen on standing at a tube station until everyone turns up, especially in cold weather (and especially given Ken's punctuality record!) - and anyway we don't know exactly who will show. I'd like to suggest meeting inside Rowan's, but I guess it's large enough that it's worth nominating where - I think there is seating between the booking point and the alleys, so I think I'll hang out there if I'm there before anyone else (I will check in the station too). Or if they are showing the football on a TV I'll probably be watching that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 28 January 2005 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

also the station will be rammed with Arsenal and Wolves fans no? see you in Rowans around 2

Stevem On X (blueski), Saturday, 29 January 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

meet somewhere in finsbury park dude. inside rowans is cool (or warm).. for those who can't find rowans then look for the mainline station/bus terminal, and i'll either pick you up there or you'll see rowans anyway and go in (since it's basically right there)

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 29 January 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

My mobile number is available on request, if that might help anyone.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 29 January 2005 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm getting the hang of this game a bit. I'd never got into three figures in the I think seven games I'd played before today, but I started today with two strikes, and won the first game with 160! I was only fourth (out of twelve of us) on the second game, but even that was a better score than I'd ever had before. I'm turning into a half-decent bowler. I had a good time, then extended it in the Swimmer afterwards.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

126
93

ack

might play again thursday night

Stevem On X (blueski), Saturday, 29 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasn't very good on the first game but redeemed myself slightly with a 175 or something on the second. i love the new shoes.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 30 January 2005 09:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I was awful, too much beer before starting I think.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 30 January 2005 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

If WORLD FAP! ever happens, we could rent an entire bowling alley for the evening. AND THEN I WOULD SCHOOL YOU ALL.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 30 January 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

130 and 153 (3rd and 2nd), which is unheard of (getting a better score in game 2. That's down to stopping drinking. Hmm, I wonder if stopping drinking will have a positive effect on other parts of my life too...?

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 30 January 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I am SO BAD at this game. No one else got more than one negative strike though!

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 30 January 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

149 and 116 (1st and 3rd) - probably about my best overall performance but not enough to beat TEH MIGHTY KEN in game 2.

robster (robster), Monday, 31 January 2005 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

101 and 98. I was a bit rub. And PWNED utterly by the boyfriend, damn you Robster.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 31 January 2005 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh sorry I missed this, I'm afraid I had an engagement with my sofa and a bottle of port :) Glad you all had teh fun tho!

Sarah C, Monday, 31 January 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

tues 8th Feb, y'all

ken c (ken c), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm, it's The Knife thing at the ICA that night tho - but i'm not sure if i'm going to that yet so we could still bowl

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 5 February 2005 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I won't commit - I'm not in terribly good shape at present, so I'm not sure I'll feel up to it - but I would like to play again, after the big improvement in my game last time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 February 2005 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I could be up for it, must drink less before bowling.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 February 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you go last night, the thread kind of petered out. How about next week, not wednesday. I've just been looking to see if there are any other bowling centres to try out and the next nearest ot the centre of town is Lewisham so it'll have to be Rowans I guess.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

we didn't go in the end... i do like to go next week, how about next tuesday, then? (just picking an arbitary date i have no preferences any which way).

the lewisham one is an AMF which usually means it would be good in terms of lane conditions, etc but that's like miles away!

if you want really centre of town, there's always the Trocadero!! but the last time i was there it costed £5 a game, and the lanes were dry and a grandma.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

dry AS a grandma...

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Rowans is the logical choice, unless you're in South London. maybe we could squeeze a couple of games in tomorrow night before heading to this Nambucca place?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd go next week, if it actually happens.

there's also a very nice bowling alley at elephant and castle, which isn't exactly central, but isn't too bad to get to. i prefer rowans, though.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

steve i'm up for a quick session tomorrow (and also next week)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I could squeeze in a couple early tomorrow.

Actually the Queensway one is AMF and the Elephant is superbowl, i could do either next week as well. A better selection of house balls is what I am after, they never seem to have more than one with finger holes in the right postition for me at Rowans.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Also

http://www.hollywoodbowl.co.uk/visit-us/surrey-quays/index.html

is not too far out. I'm not anti Rowans just thought we could do with a bit of bowling tourism

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

the surrey quays one is nice actually.

the Megabowl at Park Royal is my favourite at the moment - £7 unlimited bowling on weekdays (but during working hours only :\), and league nights on wednesday. I was thinking about joining, but my car was stolen last night which puts a damper to it as getting there by public transport isn't so easy compared to the 15 mins drive round the north circular.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

your car was stolen? holy shit dude!

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

it's no biggie. bread and butter of life in holloway. sometimes actual people get stolen here. sometimes even bikes.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

harsh.

i'm more and more in the mood for tomorrow tho so shall we say 7 at Rowans? don't be late you fuck

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

OK

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

when have i ever been late?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

also - stevem has thread title changing powers no?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i've changed it so we can always recycle this one when we want to arrange le rendezbowl

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

nice work!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That Lewisham one is 5mins walk from my flat, I'll go if you go there. I don't recommend it as its miles from everyone else though.

Elephant is more central than any of the others, right? But at the same time, its Elephant and, well, horrible.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely the FT DJs are playing down the road tomorrow night! We should all be there supporting them rather than bowling!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

exactly martin - bowling fisbury park then short bus ride back to nambucca holloway, perfect.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

we're not on til 9 though if you want to get a quick frame or two in though :)

xpost with ken

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, fair point - one frame then on to Nambucca? I think I'd be up for that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm keen on two personally and hope others are

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't recall how long they last - I sort of imagine an hour each, but I guess it depends on players per lane. I think it was something like an hour last time, but it was 6/lane.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah if it's like 4 people it's well quick. espeically if we stick to just bowling, no chit chat. you can get 2 games in within an hour no problem.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

actually reading the previous posts more carefully, i was seriously hoping for way more than 2 FRAMES of bowling before nambucca!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

(that's like a maximum of 4 throws each)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, sorry, I thought a frame was all ten goes - that's a game, I take it?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

yup. 10 frames = 1 game

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

aw your car was stolen :( RIP rushworth.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

rushworth?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

KEN C NEEDS NEW CAR

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure whoever has custody of it is looking after it well....

i can't believe out of all cars on that road they decided to take mine, though!!? i mean.. you'd think for joyriding they'd steal one that has an engine.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to bowl. I am now determined to do better. Last time was a turning point for me. Besides, I'm in the area. However, if you want to be quick by having less people I will do something else. Like go to the shops and buy underwear. It's all I seem to do.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What we need to do is split up into smallish groups, so having too many people isn't a problem.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

one extra person won't make any real difference. also, it's thursday night, the place will probably be quiet - we might even be able to split the group to two lanes for maximum luxury and speed. there may even be time for underwear shopping afterwards.

xpost

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Joy and that car have seldom been in the same sentence together. I am still sad though :(

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve, mark and I called it rushworth before it joined Ken. He probably gave it a name with a little more cred, though.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like we should pour out a 40-ounce for it or something.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

well, the polis may find it yet. i'm thinking about putting up "lost car" posters around holloway.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

If you do, you must use the phrase 'answers to the name ...'

alix (alix), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

here's my flatmate (being retarded) and I on Rushworth's last ride.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/kenjuggle3/rushworth.jpg

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe your car just ran away of it's own accord?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Or perhaps it flew, eh?

alix (alix), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

don't be ridiculous

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

(What a team).

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 February 2005 09:26 (twenty-one years ago)

what, a-team?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

my dad used to have a honda that ran away

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

of its own accord

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Ken.

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 February 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i can't afford to buy you a mercedez benz :(

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

how about a couple of Lexi?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

a lixi?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

sale!

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

stop taking lixi's ale

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the end (please?)

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 10 February 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I go away for lunch and this is what happens?!

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 February 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

you can't leave your ale unattended for one minute these days.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

THREE HOURS, GUYS. til BOWLING.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to point out that there is no actual monetary transaction going on between myself and teh stevem.

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not even sure if that is suggested. Am I completely unable to process language? Maybe I should do a degree in Linguistics.

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

you still owe me £200 you big menk

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 10 February 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It's more than that, but if you want to settle on £200, that's fine ;)

alix (alix), Thursday, 10 February 2005 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i had to pay the islington council £80 once, that was a fine.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 11 February 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

And back to bowling.

steve scored a big 160, I did not disgrace with a 133 (after last time's performance anything over 100 i'd have been happy with). We all need to work on right arm stamina, our second game was about 40% down on the first.

Lewisham in 1 or 2 weeks time?

Ed (dali), Friday, 11 February 2005 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried to score 49 but failed and got 56 instead.

alix (alix), Friday, 11 February 2005 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

My second game was rather better than my first, but was still kind of rubbish. I think my first ball got 9 of them about 6 times, but I kept missing spares. Still, only my third 100+ game ever, so not disastrous.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 11 February 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

good news guys - rushworth is safe.

Apparently after york, the car was parked with one wheel outside the parking bay. And it was thusly towed away, without me being notified of it. I finally found out about this today after phoning trace and islington branch, reported it stolen with police, insurance company, and the police finally called back today to tell me.

and after all this, you'd be interested in the fine for this.

£375.

more than the market value of the fucking car. jesus.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

This has happened to me three times (OK, it was a wheel on the kerb and two suspended bays with insufficient warning). I have challenged, and won, on all these occasions.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Unfortunately you have to pay before you can challenge.

Back on the Bowling Meme.

How about Lewisham next wednesday?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Or maybe thursday might be better.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i've paid it - i don't even mind the penalty charge just now, but the removals fees and holding charges were ridiculous. (the £175 of holding i'm 90% certain i can get rid of since i had no knowledge of my vehicle's whereabouts despite calling trace service, and the removal fees i'm fighting because i had to go there TWICE to get my car back because the idiots parked the car behind another car, and couldn't move it out.)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

my flatmate is being a genius about using Freedom of Information Act to obtain all the photos etc of the incident before deciding how to go about writing the appeal.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

next thursday = club FT!!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, will you drive me to Oxford some time? I can't pay you but I can talk crap for the duration of the journey.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

when are you wanting to go to oxford?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dunno really, anytime. I have things I need to take there that I can't carry on the megabus. I'm talking books, rather than massive giraffes made from newspaper. It would be putting you out a bit, I suspect, so don't worry.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

actually guys i might well be going bowling at the Megabowl at Park Royal, tonight or tomorrow night, because i have vouchers that let me go bowling for 2 games for £5 for up to 6 ppl (only valid until tomorrow).

I'm driving there, and can give lifts if you can get to Holloway Nags Head area. let me know if you want to come. if i go tonight i'll probably set off about 7:30pm. tonight is league night too so i'm gonna try and mingle and inquire about what's going on with that.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost yeah.. although if maybe there's some kind of oxfordian FAP organised for a weekend it'd be convenient to drive up there and back and see sunny oxford at the same time. is there a bowling alley in oxford?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

No, but there is a LazerQuest.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

so, do you guys have plans tomorrow apart from wanting to come bowling??

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd be up for tomorrow night actually as it means i could watch the Champions League match (assuming you're talking about going to Rowans) as well as bowl.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no money to bowl with, tho I am free.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

excellent, you should both come.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i forgot about the money aspect and how i have none again.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

the Champions League is too unpredictable to bet on. what odds can I get on Ken bowling a 200?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll give you 22p if he does.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope to get a high score.. i will need to be on top form with hitting spares though. it's been the weakest part of my recent games (i used to be so good at them)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm up for it.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

If I think about it, I can't come, unless I find a pot of gold under a leprechaun. Which is a shame, as there is nothing good on telly tomorrow night.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll go but can only play one game

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I really want to watch the game, and bowling doesn't quite fit with that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm planning to bowl then watch the game

so can we meet at 6.30 in Rowans?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm, that sounds more possible, if we get a reasonably early start. I will decide later, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

If I think about it, I can't come, unless I find a pot of gold under a leprechaun. Which is a shame, as there is nothing good on telly tomorrow night.

Umm, Desperate Housewives?!!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm out to dinner tomorrow night tho', yay!

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

try the fish

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

So are we bowling? What time? Park Royal or Rowans?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah yes, Desperate Housewives. Now I won't sit in wondering what fun I am missing due to poverty. Well, I will, but it'll be tempered by Channel 4.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I'm coming - I'll settle for a quiet evening in watching the football, since there is Club FT tomorrow, of course.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah steve are you still up for playing? if we play it'd be rowans tonight i guess.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still up for it.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

see you at Rowans at 6.30 then? ok

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, see you rowans at 6:30 then ed? and if anyone shows up just join in?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

hopefully i can still get a decent score tonight.. calf still a bit tender after a rather energetic football game on monday!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

145 and 141. ph34r my pwnage.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit guys, the place in acton does unlimited bowling for £6.99. Three of us played 6 games each in the end.. works out just over a pound a game.

High scores 187 and 196. watch out steve!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 3 March 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve and I were reckoning lewisham next thursday, but unlimited bowling in Acton sounds cool too.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

lewisham is good - also unlimited is only on wednesday nights.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 3 March 2005 08:32 (twenty-one years ago)

We'll have to keep that in mind for a non-champions league week.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 3 March 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken, what's yr high score?

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 3 March 2005 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

233.. i was on fire that day (it was really odd as i was playing guy with the lowest handicap that day - and i beat his scratch score!! my average then was around 120)

If I can bowl regularly again I hope to beat it within this next couple months.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 3 March 2005 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

My high score was that recent 160. I'd be up for a trip to Acton before Easter, as I don't have to work the Thursday, but only if there is no big football that night (all the English teams may be out by then, of course). Otherwise not on a Wednesday.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 3 March 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

well, if you guys ever fancy coming, the closest tube is Park Royal, it's like 3 minutes walk away, or hanger lane (about 7 minutes away), both zone three. it's a big entertainment complex basically on Western Avenue, where it almost meets the north circular.

right here in fact!
http://uk.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=519250.071935772&Y=182250.415293219&width=700&height=400&gride=519221.071935772&gridn=182291.415293219&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=GB&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&scale=5000&out.x=5&out.y=9

ample parking if you decide to drive there - if i go i normally drive, so there is possibly lift from holloway nags head. depending on car load!

this place is basically heaven - standard Megabowl fayre, pool tables, decent bar area, 2 DDR machines, fruit machines, mcdonald's INSIDE the bowling place . KFC next door, a VUE cinema, some TGI friday ripoff place, a Chiquito, an oriental buffet kind of place, AND a petrol station. it has, basically, everything i had ever wished for for years, right there.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 3 March 2005 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Park Royal is far, far from heaven. sounds like a good deal on the bowling tho so i call shotgun in ken's car.

I am sitting directly across from the Streatham Megabowl, and they also do a "bowl as much as you can" deal but there is a bus sitting in front of the price.

If you came and bowled down South, I would come and drink and watch you...

Masonic Cathedral (kate), Friday, 4 March 2005 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

is there a KFC next door?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i just had a look, the streatham megabowl only do unlimited during weekdays noon-6pm, and on sundays 19:30-22:30 (for £8).. not quite so good! although might be fun to visit one day anyway though as part of the london bowling centre tour.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 7 March 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

where are we going on Thursday.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 March 2005 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

this thurs?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 7 March 2005 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm up for whereever. something not rowans might be fun!

Archel (Archel), Monday, 7 March 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Let me know when you're doing Lewisham and I'll swing by.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 7 March 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's say Lewisham then. Set a time.

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

shit, a bit late now i guess?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 March 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Least-organised fun evah.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 10 March 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

better than organised least-fun which happens frequently.

i wonder if lewisham is better reserved for like a non-school night.. so getting home before 1am isn't as vital a factor (and thus saving me some money from buying a travelcard).

ken c (ken c), Friday, 11 March 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
yesterday afternoon I scored a whooping oonnnneee hunnddreeeed anddd eiiiiiighhhhhtttyyyyyy!

except it was during bowling, rather than darts :(

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

And I wasn't rubbish! Go COCKS!

alix (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Do I want to ask what cocks had to do with the quality of your bowling? I think I do...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

big balls.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

fanny hair.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

We are very immmature and made it so our initial spelled 'COCKS'. I was Calix.

Alix with an I ? (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i scored 133 and 133

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I scored 113 and 118. If this was The Games that would be a personal best and I would get 1 point for that too. I love The Games. If I was in them I would be Mel Giedroyc and rubbish at it all.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I scored 113 and 118. If this was The Games that would be a personal best and I would get 1 point for that too. I love The Games. If I was in them I would be Mel Giedroyc and rubbish at it all.

(alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened there?

Alix with an I ? (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i would be Teh Chesney - how is he doing?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he is fourth, beating Craig Charles. He is ever so moley.

Alix with an I ? (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

not as in the animal tho eh?

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

No, the animal. Velvety fur, myopia, and the like.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

LIVES IN A HOLE.

alix (alix), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I am the one and moley

Chesney Hawkes (blueski), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
so who fancies some 10 pin action.. NEXT weekend? (sat/sun 23rd/24th)?

if it's during the day maybe we can venture further than finsbury park...

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Lewisham is equidistant to me, possible nearer. Surrey Quays is another option.

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i quite like the lewisham idea!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It might be fun.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

It's been so long since I pwnz0red anyone at bowling, I'm prepared to go to South London to do it.

lock robster (robster), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

hehe i love liz's enthusiasm!!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Me possibly if Sunday! But depends on some travel plans of my hubby-to-be which no doubt will be left till the last minute.

Haha I can't believe I just said 'hubby'. Shoot me.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

/==== . . . . . archel
//`

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Also me possibly if Sunday. Also, does anyone have any boxing gloves? I think there's something Archel and I have to sort out, Marquess of Queensbury stylee.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

history tells us that we'd have it on sunday and bring boxing gloves, and then mark won't turn up.

but sunday sounds good.24th then?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do sunday too it seems.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 14 April 2005 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

see you guys in lewisham then! what time.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh! Ah! DLR!

Oh, a civilised time.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

10am then?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You cheeky scallywag.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I went ten-pin bowling for the first time, on saturday!

I scored 117.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

How did I miss the fact it's in LEWISHAM? I have no idea how to get there.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

For you, to waterloo then waterloo east to lewisham

Ed (dali), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

history tells us that we'd have it on sunday and bring boxing gloves, and then mark won't turn up.
-- ken c (pykachu10...), April 13th, 2005 4:46 PM. (ken c) (later)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

way to go cozen!!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay Lewisham! 5mins walk from my house.

Anyone fancy a pint at my local afterwards? Its tucked out of the way a bit but it is the best pub in London and therefore worth looking for.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 14 April 2005 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

4pm, Lewisham station or at the alley itself?

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 14 April 2005 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I may well be on for this, I expect. Even in such a ridiculous location...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 April 2005 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

at the station sounds like the best bet - i have no idea where the alley is just yet and don't expect others to know either.

Is there only one station in lewisham? or are there seperate ones? (one for DLR and one for normal trains?

I'm kind of thinking about getting there by bus, is that a mad idea? What buses go there? (188?)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

all the same intergchange. There's one main entracy concoursey bit

Ed (dali), Thursday, 14 April 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yay! i cannae wait for this.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate wants to know if anyone would like a pre-bowling walk in Crystal palace, say oneish, look at The rolling London walking thread.

Ed (dali), Friday, 15 April 2005 09:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The station is not a great place to stand around waiting. I'd recommend meeting at the alley. Walk from the station in the direction of the clock tower, turn left after Yates and left again. Its opposite the White Horse pub.

Don't get the bus, its 10mins by train from London Bridge which is by miles the quickest way. Unless there is maintenance work on the line like there was last Sunday. Try phoning ahead!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 April 2005 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Its not significantly further from the centre of town than Finsbury Park, incidentally.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 15 April 2005 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I might mill around Greenwich beforehand - cheap pie and mash maybe

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 15 April 2005 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to walk to the bus stop at this end, make some transfers and exchanges along the way, walk from the station to the bowling place at the other end, and then walk back and forth to the actual lane several times - I'm damned if I'm deliberately adding to that!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 15 April 2005 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't get the bus, its 10mins by train from London Bridge which is by miles the quickest way. Unless there is maintenance work on the line like there was last Sunday. Try phoning ahead!

matt but it's not speed i'm after (it's economy)

but i feel getting a travelcard is probably wise this time. the bus is just a london bridge too far.

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 16 April 2005 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Walk? Walk? Anyone? Sigh. Never mind... :-(

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Saturday, 16 April 2005 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i would kate, but i'd be carrying a 10lb bowling ball

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 16 April 2005 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i kept thinking this was tomorrow! but the 24th is cool

$V£N! (blueski), Saturday, 16 April 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 16 April 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

nope, next week.

although in retrospect today would have made sense. maybe.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 April 2005 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

4pm at lewisham AMF - i think i've seen this place already.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 21 April 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

really??

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 April 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Like worse than Rowans?!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

awesome!

all bowling alleys should have a touch of grittiness about them (i hope the lanes are well kept, though)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

FOCUS people.

So, still up for this?? Sunday? 4pm? Lewisham???

Can we have a quick roll call? so far stevem and liz:x (+robster?) martin? mattDC? ken???

ken's in.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

robster and Liz:x are in

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, ILX kids are going bowling in my 'hood! can you all wear some kind of identifying badge or symbol, please, so i can tell who you are? as it's a sunday afternoon, i'll probably be stationed outside the ladies' lav with a can of Special.

Lee F# (fsharp), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

can i join you instead?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

feel free - it's open house for the stretch of wall between the lavs and the cold drinks machine. it's like a SE London 'King of the Hill', but with a rotating cast of nutjobs.

Lee F# (fsharp), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure - I'd like to come and play, but I've been in terrible mental/emotioanl shape a lot of the time lately, so I don't know what my odds are. I'm also still unclear why Steve from Stratford and three North Londoners (or four if I make it) are travelling to Lewisham for this. I'll email/text or something if I'm likely to make it, since I don't actually know where it is.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 April 2005 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Lee, we must be neighbours. Whereabouts do you live?

I'm not sure I can make this despite it being a stones throw from my flat, as I think I'm going to a cards night in West London. I may pop along early doors though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i confess i was being a wee bit broad, geographically. i am a fashionable East Dulwicher, although i have to stress that i am not a well-off, middle class, married-with-children thirty-something like everyone else in East Dulwich. only the middle class bit applies, sadly.

Lee F# (fsharp), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the lewisham idea is really kind of just a like a field trip.. It just seems nice to go visit other alleys - and it's actually good practice to bowl in different places so your technique doesn't become too particular to one bowling house.

Even though the lanes are pretty much regular size but there are subtle differences that can affect your game hugely (the way the lanes are greased, the approach area including where they place those dots on the floor, the atmosphere of the place). And getting used to that helps the understanding of the game.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Lewisham is just as close to me as Rowans wrt journey time if not a little quicker to get to so I'm fine with it personally.

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's further for us than Rowans, fer sure, but it does mean I get to go on the DLR. Yay!

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hey what zone is lewisham?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

2 & 3

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

So this is the AMF bowling in Lewisham, yes? Location?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 22 April 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.amfbowling.co.uk/images/maps/New%20Maps/lewisham.gif

robster (robster), Friday, 22 April 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I would make the shortish bus ride from mine.

But I'll have to see it I can get out of a family commitment

Sean Carter (roc), Saturday, 23 April 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(The DLR is a really shit way to get to Lewisham unless you're coming from East London, Rob. Overground trains from London Bridge take ten minutes)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 23 April 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

DLR is slower, half an hour from bank. But sometimes I prefer it, better views, can be nicer inside the trains.

Sean Carter (roc), Saturday, 23 April 2005 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to watch Man Utd v Newcastle first I think, then see where you guys are. Steve keep yer phone on.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 24 April 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I won't be there, I'm afraid - feeling too rotten today. Have fun!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 24 April 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Lewisham not as good as Rowans, bit more expensive as well i think - but hey it was still bowling.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I was a bit rub. It's Lewisham's fault.

robster (robster), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the place was nice actually - it was a bowling alley for bowlers - the lanes were in better condition, it was well lit, and there were house balls around drilled for hook bowlers! (plus there was this old Storm one that was lying around which hooked like a motherfucker! i had fun throwing a couple)

i wish my right thigh didn't hurt with every single shot though - although i didn't do too badly really considering. hitting the headpin with most shots but just not getting the right pin action but picked up enough of the spares. but not breaking 150 was a bit of a setback as i had hopes to go over 200 that time.

play again soon??

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry guys - it was Sarah's last day in the UK for a while and I wanted to hang out with her. Maybe next time.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 April 2005 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

aw we never got the printouts either! (not that our scores were anything to take home about)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 27 April 2005 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

so provided i can get my car fixed in time... anyone up for some unlimited bowling next wednesday 11th may?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

That is kind of tempting. Keep us updated on the car-fixin'!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

keep in mind that this unlimited bowling thing can sometimes disappoint - you can get at least 3 games for your £7 - then when you finish you have to go back to get another 3 (and may not get it if the place gets busy, but normally it's fine).

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Remind me where this is?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 3 May 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

We went bowling in Manhattan (in the Port Authority bus terminal building) but I was rubbish and got 111 and 104 but without a single strike.

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh! Already booked to eat Thai food in Fulham next Weds, can't do bowling as well. Let us know if it's any cop though.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

acton/park royal.. it's where park royal tube station is (hanger lane station is also near - where that big hangerlane roundabout is where the north circular meets western avenue)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem i didn't know there was bowling in that building!!! i walked past it so many times.

i could have gone bowling instead of sightseeing. :(

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think I much fancy the journey back from there on a Wednesday night - but what time were you thinking of getting there? It occurs to me that I'll be working late that day anyway, late being 6pm.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i dunno if i'm up for it just yet.. i'd be more persuaded if more of you are coming along.

it'd be about 7pm I aim to get there.. If I go. My car is fixed so lift is available from the Camden Road bowling transport depot i.e. my house, to bowling alley, and back. at about 6:30.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 May 2005 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

A404 would be a nightmare round that time tho probably. I would like to try Park Royal tho, not sure I've ever bowled there.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

you mean the A406?

the north circular runs fine the three times i went on a wednesday night. 15 minutes from holloway (via A1 joining at henly's corner)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 9 May 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yes and okay

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 9 May 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

as you probably guessed i can't be bothered to go tonight (actually i have work to do)

but next weds??????

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I doubt I can afford bowling until payday. It all depends how much I want to eat in the next 2 weeks. Actually, I probably can afford it. I don't intend to eat that much.

Alix with an i? (alix), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

when is payday.

remember that this bowling is CHEAP (well, relatively.. 7 quid for bowling until your arms hurt)

last night in my dream i left my bowling ball at the bowling alley after bowling, and when i returned, someone else had crushed up the ball and it wasn't ball shaped anymore and thus cannot be used properly. and i asked who did it and the staff said that the ball was too crap and i should but this new one (which was basically the magic swerving one i found that day in lewisham).

How strange.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to get this illusive 200 game.

i'll have to make sure i don't damage my right groin the night before this time.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean either elusive or illusory, I think. Possibly both...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no i've just created a new amalgam buzz word. how edutaining.

elusive was what i meant.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Payday is 2 weeks ish. I am happy when I score more than 80.

Alix with an i? (alix), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)
