and so, as the days turn slightly longer and new years resolutions fail, mendip council licensing committee make their only interesting decision of the year...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/4182773.stm

i can't understand all the fuss about next year's being "cancelled" though. he's had every 5th year off since it became proper big...

tickets on sale 3 april, a sunday. start buttering up your broadband-owning mates now...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I read that the New Tent is being renamed The John Peel Stage this year. Lovely tribute:)

C J (C J), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

not if it's going to be full of bands he'd never have played (which seems likely)

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that lovely when you consider the rubbish that gets put in the New Bands Tent.

Hey, here's an idea! How about we all have a FAP on Saturday 2nd April, go to the Spanish Bar, then a club, stay up drinking coffee the rest of the night, safe in the knowledge that we will be tucked up in bed, with our tickets purchased, at ten past nine in the morning.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

a reservoir? oh dear...

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

also it's going to be where the dance tent was and the dance tents (plural, including the glade) are going to be where new bands was last time.

was that the sound of ronan exploding i just heard?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

it = john peel stage, not the reservoir...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

noise patrols = no fun

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the noise patrols are in pilton, not on site.

also get off this thread, fun hater, especially if you're not even coming this year ;P

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh shite, I was considering skipping it this year. There was talk last year that everyone who got tickets last year would be barred this year, and I thought, better to go with everyone I know in 2006 than go through hell getting the tickets and only find half my friends there. But now I have to go, and so does everyone = utter hell on the 3rd.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

but it seems that the noise patrols are only in pilton to make sure the noise from the festival site itself is not too bad hence moving The Glade around and stuff.

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i'm quite glad it's not on next year as i will be concentrating funds on Deutschland round then

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope nobody pisses into the reservoir :(((

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just reread the whole of this thread and am now excited again.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not going, but I'm hoping for a repeat of the panic and agony that was last year's thread. It was funny!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah let's bring that thead back! where is it?
'worthy cockfarm!' that was our catch-phrase.

the 'learn' from last year is, sit on ILX and do not go to bed until u get a sneaky link for tickets.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you mean GLASTONBURY TICKETS SALE CANCELLED.

If I can't get through then 'freya' and 'no s' will be the very first things I try.

I am disappointed to note that I was not, as promised, worshipped as a god at Glasto2004.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(I think that thread might mark the first appearance of Barry Krishna as well, I'm not sure)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i wanted 2 put a message in the Q daily paper that said 'hey thanx matt from all at ILX!!!' or same. only thing was the paper didnt run the 'daily messages' bit last year.

this may well b the first year i dont have the energy for all the usual ticket mither.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

waitaminute - they are moving The Glade out of The Glade? That seems like a really dumbass idea.

Is dance music officially dead at Glastonbury now? I foresee Ronan spending every night up at the stone circle with the bongo drummers in future Glastonburys.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

no there are the unofficial london hipster bars

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder will I bother going this year?

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I still haven't decided!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not getting rid of dance music they're just moving it to a different tent, jaysus. I still think a couple of smaller tents might be better, provided they don't decide to put Mike Skinner in there or something.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
blimey!!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/news/20050127_glasto.shtml

People buying tickets will have to send in photos when purchasing them. They will then be sent a card similar to a student card complete with a photograph and electronic chip which will be read at the festival gates to accompany a ticket bearing the buyer's name and address.

better than taking your passport though, i'd say. also they're still never going to check everyone, i can't see how they'd set up the requisite technology/deal with the logjams at all the gates...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i imagine it won't be that hard to check everyone who passes through the gates if they have a chip reader/barcode scanner type thing

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh for fuck's sake, you'd think they'd make sure they had a system that ACTUALLY WORKED IN THE FIRST PLACE before devising ever more convoluted ways to waste everyone's time on April 3rd.

(Does this mean everyone will have to buy their own ticket? Because this may cause me major problems).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

but there's no point in having chip reader etc, if they're not checking people's info against it, steve. it's not about forged tickets, it's about people selling on genuine ones...

also what if you change your hairstyle between april and june?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Given the amount of checking that happened last year ie none, I would be very surprise if anything but the smallest proportion of people get checked this year.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

when will we know who's playing?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

well how long is it going to take say 50 ticket inspectors to inspect photocard tickets in reality? it doesn't seem that unfeasible, it's not as if 100,000 all turn up at exactly the same time after all. i don't think it means queues akin to the ones we were in waiting to get on the bus out of there. the car queues won't be any worse as long as they do all the checking only when people actually enter the site on foot.

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

roxy: bands list usually revealed c. 1 June, ie two months after the tickets have sold out, but, of course, "it's not about the music, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan".

steve: yeah, you're probably right, it just seems a bit pointless and annoying...

everyone: we must start an CAMPAIGN to write to national express (copied to M Eavis) to get them to sort out the effing busses on a monday morning...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 February 2005 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Getting on the coaches on Monday morning was nothing compared to the abject hell that is trying to get into Castle Cary station. Never again.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

we got a taxi. sweet.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

actually on reflection we had to walk fucking ages to get to castle cary.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not referring to getting to the station itself, I'm referring to standing cooped-up in a massive bottleneck in the sweltering heat for two hours before you even get onto the platform. Not fun.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I know, that happened me the last time, in the rain.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

better than taking your passport though, i'd say.

given that I have to bring my passport anyway, I really resent having to dick around with stupid photos and some expensive smartcard that just adds tonnes to the price of the ticket.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Next year you will be required to carry around a sample of your semen at all times for random DNA tests. Let's hope they don't do that at Reading, could get very messy next time they invite 50 Cent along.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have any semen though.

alix (alix), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a good job there isn't a Glasto next year then. It'll give you time to find some.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

DV it does say you only need one kind of photo id, ie you won't need to get a card if you are bringing yr passport. also if you get on teh ferry do you need your passport btw, or is it only for teh flying?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

God this whole thing makes me shudder with distaste. I am a bitter old man.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 3 February 2005 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

At this rate Glasto should qualify for nation statehood by 2007. They should introduce their own currency (actually didn't the 90s Woodstock festivals do this?)

robster (robster), Thursday, 3 February 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile - the ferry had gone all upmarket last time I travelled - they check in your luggage and everything. So probably, yes, they expect a passport.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i still have no idea what a Castle Cary is

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Thursday, 3 February 2005 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

noise patrols = no fun

I hope this does not lead to a mass outbreak of mime.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 4 February 2005 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Kylie and... New Order!.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 5 February 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

omg

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 5 February 2005 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 5 February 2005 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Well, New Order = my favourite band of all time, and Kylie = the most long-term crush of my life. But...nah, I still think I'm going to skip it. After the intense trauma of the ticket nonsense last year, I promised myself I'd never go through anything like it again. I'll just watch it on the telly insted this time. Oh, except that won't be the same either because John Peel won't be hosting it. Sigh.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 5 February 2005 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Kylie = Windowlicker

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 7 February 2005 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Those people who might come along on Sunday to see Kylie Minogue might not enjoy New Order or the White Stripes, so we have something for everyone."

Everyone, clearly, is appeased by these three choices.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 7 February 2005 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/news/index.asp?id=176

TWICE the number of people answering the phones!! that'll be about 150 then?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Saturday, 5 March 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

if i went, would you meet me, would you FAP with me? would you spot me? does anyone remember me?

g-kit (g-kit), Saturday, 5 March 2005 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. possibly (mobiles are useful for this). kinda.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Saturday, 5 March 2005 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Brian Wilson is headlining now supposedly, either clashing with Kylie or replacing her

Sven Bastard (blueski), Saturday, 5 March 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

sound-clashing with her?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 6 March 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

how odd, this just popped up on my RSS feed (hello yes, they call me mr sadbastard) as though it had been updated, but it hasn't wooooOOOoooo. we were talking about glasto in the pub though last night, primarily the large numbers of people wot are not going this year :(

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

why are people not going? this is the year of the backlash!

piscesboy, Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

because they are big gurl's blouses/going to seattle/vietnam/other stuff...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Basement Jaxx and New Order in Hyde Park!

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, that as well...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I really resent having to dick around with stupid photos and some expensive smartcard that just adds tonnes to the price of the ticket.

the Citizen Card, as it is known, is available free for people who need it for Glasto purposes (instead of the usual nine quid): http://www.citizencard.net/glastonbury/

anyone know any doctors?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

jaxx and new order are playing glasto!!

piscesboy, Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I can now afford Seattle and Glastonbury. Or I could be a good Tom and put the money in the house deposit savings account. Hmmm.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

what the...? do you need one of these id cards to get in???!!!

what a pallaver this turns out to be every year.

piscesboy, Thursday, 17 March 2005 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

unless you're taking yr passport or (picture) driving license, yes.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

my question still stands!

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I am umming and aahing. A very pleasant lunchtime just spent sitting in St James's Square drinking beer with my workmates has suddenly made me up for this.

But at the same time I could spend the money on something else fun, like going to America. And I don't know when I'll get time off from my new job. Argh.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

like i said in the pub last night, i'd like to go, but i'm not going to get stressed about it. i figure if i'm able to get tickets without killing myself with anxiety (and it's stress free, like last year), i'll go. otherwise, i'm sure i can use the money for something else!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm excited!!!!!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

NO S!!!

it will be peasy ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Surely all of ILE (or those who were here last year) will just take the 's' off at the first sign of a fuckup?

Except I'll be away at a wedding that weekend and will therefore miss the whole ticket mentalism even if I do decide to go.

(haha xpost - FREYA!)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, i had decided i wasn't going to go, but now, i'm not sure. apparently kylie is definitely headlining the sunday night.

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

and come on how fckng good will that be?

piscesboy, Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait -- what's this about BJ and NO in HP?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so going to that, fuck Glasto.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

When is NO BJ in HP?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Glasto 2005 is go this Sunday 9AM!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I can feel the ph34r from here.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

number of people with knowledge of sneaky
back-routes via ILX/freya et al in 2004 = 5,000

number of people with knowledge of sneaky
back-routes via ILX/freya et al in 2005 = roughly 1,000,000

and that's my ph34r.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

GLASTO ROLLCALL PLEASE!

I am checking my bank balance this afternoon and that will probably sway my decision somewhat.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

if we manage to get our comps, then i'll be there.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Overseas Bookers – Non UK residents may present a Domestic, Foreign or International Photo Driving licence, a CitizenCard, or a Government Approved National Identification Photo Card from their country of residence.

So that's me and my passport fucked, then.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure a passport will be fine (write them to ask?)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I might do that, but it seems notable by its absence on the list of forms of ID foreigners might have on them.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Are the rumours about a silent disco where everyone dances around with headphones after hours true?

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I am disappointed that this year's mad scramble for tickets will be during the day instead of last year's exciting nocturnal adventure.

There will be a silent dance tent, it's official. You will be able to hear people's folds of fat gently slapping beneath the tent flaps.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahhh, fuck it, I'm coming to Glasto!

If only to watch RickyT's reaction at an entire tent's worth of silent ravers...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 31 March 2005 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

COOOME ONN! etc

that silent disco story in full:
http://breakingnews.iol.ie/entertainment/story.asp?j=138179026&p=y38y7973z

good grief...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

is it really 9am? or is that funny dublin time, or something? i'd put it in my palm pilot as 10, which seems much more sensible for a sunday morning.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 April 2005 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought this was an interesting rule:

When you purchase your two tickets, you need not be one of the named people - they may be purchased for two other people, but you will not then be able to make any further purchase for yourself.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 1 April 2005 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess it's so teenagers can get their parents to buy tickets.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ARGHHHHHH

Lucretia My Reflection Is Wavering (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"arrrghh" whut?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes but I ahem haven't paid off last years ticket yet and once that's gone getting another ticket is a bit wheeesht eh innit? Argh bvgger this for a game of soldiers, argh oh, I dun- argh!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

aw bless.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Shaaaa-aaaab!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, you said you were paying me back out of this pay packet, so no probs, yeah?

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

In an attempt to avoid engaged tones, one dedictae draver was interviewed on the radio this morning saying she was going round to her friend's house who lives next door to another friend and they were all going to ring at the same time, thus eliminating the possibility of getting an engaged tone, and they were all going to be on the internet as well.

I don't know whether this is a foolproof plan or a flameproof pudding plan.

There is a programme on tonight about when floods reached Glastonbury Tor all the way from the Bristol Channel.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to go!!! *cries*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah dude, that means I pay you back out of this pay packet (ooh gimme yr bank details innit) and then would need ANOTHER wedge of that amount for this years ticket! Aieee! But yes. Yes.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, because if 3 of them ring at the same time as the other million people there's NO WAY they'd get an engaged tone to one of the 140 lines...

it's going to be similarly as bad as last year, except it starts at 9 in the morning, instead of 8 at night...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless I crack before Sunday morning I am not going and will instead have rubbish no-fun with the smug hataz.

(Or go somewhere completely different that weekend.)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - Which means you at least get to sleep after 16 hours.

Hey Starry Lady, if you don't go this year, you'll be sitting around next year with all the money you've saved and nothing to spend it on.

Tom and Markelby's Smugatorium and Haterade stall!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

My smugness will be reduced by it starting at 9 in the morning. I really enjoyed last year.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to hyde park instead (not on sunday morning, but during glasto)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I am getting MY DAD to buy me tickets.

If my dad = Carsmile. Possibly. Steve, do I need to give you anything other than my address?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

And the money, obviously.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, remember what we were doing this time last year?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I read that ENTIRE thread this morning. Am now having the fear.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

is there an email-link thing this year?

toby (tsg20), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i was wondering that. nothing obvious on the aloud site...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

oh hold on, there's a "festival update" available via here:

http://www.aloud.com/gig_alert.shtml

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I love how the official Glasto website still looks like a cobbled together Geocities homepage after all these years. Clipart and everything!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to the dark side, Tom, come to usssssss.....

Government Approved National Identification Photo Card is pretty much a definition of passport, isn't it?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, i think i only need your address, blood type and retinal scan.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

oh christ i've just started readin ghte old thread now which is bad:

a. because i have shedloads of work to do this afternoon and

b. it is GIVING ME TEH PH34R!!11!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha, i have just got to the bit where we discovered freya and i'm trying not to piss myself laffing in the office...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

someone should make a film out of that thread. it has tension n everything

i remember being in the queue at rye train station the next morning (waiting for a bus to camber sands) and the bloke behind us just managed to get a ticket for the festival.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

fingers crossed.. it looks like the tickets are coming through and, most importantly, THE CARAVAN.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Late night party round at Lauren's then?

Good lord, I can't believe I considered not going this year.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

the caravans rule. the site is well far from everything else, though.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

So, here's looking forward to doing this all again in 2005!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Awww. For about three days I was the undisputed hero of ILX. Someone came up to me at the festival itself and was all "You're Matt DC! I'm only here because of you!"

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

... and then I embraced my firstborn and we danced to Ticket To Ride outside a wine bar.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

My sources tell me that Coldplay are headlining Friday, Brian Wilson on Saturday and Kylie on Sunday. Of the three of them, the only one I am remotely excited about is Kylie.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

my sources (ie the 6radio news) say white stripes deffo friday, kylie deffo sunday, prolly clodplay saturday...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Martian, actuall seer of the FUTUR!!

and also having the phone service allocated with X'000 tickets, and double the number of phone operators.

Other suggestions, switch the operations to a Sunday, the phone network is less busy and most people would find it more convenient.

How about a 12 Midday start on a Sunday? with the above systems in place - tickets would sell a lot faster.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 3 April 2005 06:27 (twenty-one years ago)

But the nerves are creeping over me.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 3 April 2005 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

morning! new thread then?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm panicking. Mainly cos my Dad just told me he lost his credit card last week and has to get a new one. And my Mum is away. So erm.......why am I even up? Oh yeah, texting sister???

No, it's credit cards only for international people like Ronan - debit only for us UK mugs.

otm.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

If http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/lineups.php?FestID=790 is right and New Order provide an alternative headliner to Coldplay on the Saturday then that's great news.

On the other hand, choosing between Kylie and Brian Wilson will be tricky. Ah fuck it, it's got to be Brian Wilson, unless I'm completely off my head and under the spell of persuasive girls. Which is very unlikely, of course.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, but hang on. They're all rumoured under the Pyramid stage section. That makes no sense.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Seen BW, not seen Kylie, so Kylie it is. Kylie supporting Brian Wilson makes quite a lot of sense I think.

BOB GELDOF?!?!?!?

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha - I love it when you get down to the third page, for the Outside Dance/Fire stage and it says things like:

Pronghorn - strong rumour

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm stoked that Al Green is rumoured. I saw that he was touring but as with Brian Wilson, the ticket price put me off. Good old Glastonbury.

Dead Fish - strong rumour

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

This we must see!! If you look at the scrolling news banner, they have challenged Hayseed Dixie and their poofy version of Ace of Spades to a showdown at the Lost Vagueness stage.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

8am in a tent near YOU (x-post)

right. the plumber (real actual plumber) has been. i have no real excuse to be on t'internet on a lovely day like this

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you played Pronghorn's 'Vasectomy Cluedo' yet? I fear we must keep this from Waddington's.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

surely brian wilson will be in the sunday afternoon slot, with kylie as kicking out music?

always with the pronghorn :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Traditionally, they've had an old-timer as the Sunday evening Pyramid headliner, to wind things down nicely. I don't think Kylie is right for that slot, but then maybe the little shiny pixie will rouse us all from our Sunday torpor and make it the best Glastonbury ever.

My ideal would be Kylie Friday, New Order Saturday and Brian Wilson Sunday, but I realise that is not going to happen.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Superpitcher is headlining the main stage on Sunday.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

NO! FOR REAL???

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be a bit rubbish actually.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Now you mention it, Ronan, give me a dance wishlist like you did last year.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to try and make sure this year that the Bad Things do not happen on the Sunday night. (or the Thursday night for that matter).

This may involve avoiding the Brothers Bar.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently the Brothers Bar is being moved to the Avalon stage this year.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll give you ten to one on on tom managing to do this ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Against?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my chances of avoiding Thursday night catastrophe are a bit better than that but yes it may involve a negotiation with the Brothers Bar rather than a full ceasefire.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it possible to avoid perry gout rot by eating lots of Rennies or am I kidding myself?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

just for the sake of it then Alba.

ok, presuming it's a dance tent style set up

Friday-(first two kind of quirky personal suggestions, or moreso than the rest anyway!)
16.00-17.00 Whitey
17.00-18.00-Mount Sims
18.00-20.00-The Glimmer Twins
20.00-21.30-Jacques Lu Cont
21.30-23.00-Erol Alkan
23.00-whenever stuff has to end-Blackstrobe Decks/FX

Saturday
19.00-20.00-Jo Jo De Freq
20.00-22.00-Get Physical DJs
22.00-23.00-Vitalic
23.00-whenever Michael Mayer or DJ Koze or Superpitcher, or all three.

Sunday-zzzzzzz

I'd put Optimo BRWH set on the Saturday but I haven't seen it so I'd be being dishonest.

As for stuff in the day I don't know, I'd be happy to watch US house people like Derrick Carter or something all day, if it was sunny.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

No I've tried that, in fact I wonder if indigestion pills make it worse.

One simple solution to avoiding Thursday night ruin is to go on the Wednesday. (This may only make sense in my brain.)

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

oh no, getting there "early" sets all sorts of plans going.

Last year we had severe trouble putting up our tent, because we got a taxi to collect our tickets as opposed to the bus, and having saved a few hours, beaten the rush, and not had to queue for the tickets, we thought we'd go for a drink, at 10.30 in the morning. we left the pub about 4 o clock.

in the end a 13 year old girl who was camping near us helped us put up our tent, after about half an hour of drunken whining at each other.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I may just be feeling overambitious since 48 hours ago I'd made the solemn decision not to go at all...

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

A regular Optimo set, rather than BRWH, might go down a storm, in fact.

I haven't quite worked out the dance situation yet.

You've got the 'G stage', which is basically the Glade nutters relocated (look out for the Egg).

Then there's the Fire/'Outside Dance' stage, which I think will be Osric Tentacles et al.

Big dance acts will probably be on the Other Stage again.

Then there's something called 'the 2nd dance tent' - how big is this?

I'd be quite happy for all the good stuff to go on at little places like the Red Bull tent, the Lock Tavern and Lost Vagueness, as long as they sort out the water/going to the loo situation in the first two.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Are the Faders playing?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah right - according to the official site the new Dance tent is actually bigger than the old one.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

the Bad Things do not happen on the Sunday night

But the bad things were the best!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously, i think rickyt's tape player may have a TERRIBLE ACCIDENT with my peg hammer...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the silent disco goes on all night apparently.

my brother was saying he read somewhere that the dance stuff is going to be divided up among smaller stages, and run by labels or clubnights? so are places like the Lock going to be more official or something?

The Lock on the Saturday was the best thing I saw last year.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The Poptimism Stage will be open for business I'm sure, but not on the Sunday night I'm hoping.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

who's got the early 'word' on the
RIZLA/LOCK TAVERN action this year then?

oh, xpost with ronan yeah the lock! the lock!!

piscesboy, Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

also:

https://www.nationalexpress.com/utilities/contact_email2.cfm

send national express an email NOW telling them to sort out the monday morning travel, rather than when you get back...

alsoalso, how can we get to do club popular at the lock tavern tent (this is semi-serious)...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

20.00-22.00-Get Physical DJs
22.00-23.00-Vitalic
23.00-whenever Michael Mayer or DJ Koze or Superpitcher, or all three.

Aw YEAH! Though the chances of any of those playing must be vanishingly small.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

new order or coldplay ?

ahhh tis no choice.

Go Team headline the John P tent according to the recent MI mailout.

but as ever i may be finding the choice more difficult on the night ..

mark e (mark e), Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

does chris T-T post here anymore?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It's looking like if NO are playing, then they're second fiddle to Coldplay on the Pyramid Stage, which seems stupid, but there you are. A headlining New Order set would be so much more of a great thing (not least because they'd get longer to play) so I hope this changes.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris T-T is the one former poster who announced his departure, departed, and has never returned since.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 3 April 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The prospect of FULL-ON KYLIE CAMP DISCO ASSAULT on a Sunday night, in full knowledge of what has happened in previous years, is frankly delicious.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 3 April 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Bearing in mind it is unlikely the Pinefox will attend, am I the only person genuinely excited by the possibility of Chas and Dave playing?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 3 April 2005 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

why is the line-up always so much better in my 'gap' years?

Sven Basted (blueski), Sunday, 3 April 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Eavis hates you. Always has done, always will.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 4 April 2005 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

efestivals.co.uk now has Kate Bush listed as a rumour. I'll eat my beanie if she appears.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

reasonably full line-up in today's graun:

i'm getting QUITE EXCITED NOW!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 April 2005 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, it looks a bit underwhelming to me.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 11 April 2005 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 April 2005 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I am just disappointed that the dance lineup has no electromicrokompaktgetphysicalbpitcheryhaus. And that f#cking Dreadzone are playing again. I also completely missed the 'Whiley' listing the first time round.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 11 April 2005 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it looks good!

Who's for the pop quiz in the Pussy Parlure?

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/performance/index.asp?id=196

If you would like it from the horses mouth. I think there are only about 9 acts I would sort of be interested in seeing.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 11 April 2005 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

ALSO, if peoples republic of disco get to have a go, poptimism SHOULD SURELY get a set...

we shall RULE THE POP QUIZ LIKE AN COLLOSUS

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 April 2005 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

PITMAN!

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 11 April 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

JER GET MEH?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 April 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

well the P.R.O.D. have that 'bring your own CDs!' gimmick that's gonna stand out more innit. i dunno if people would be as sold on 'number one singles only', JSL (and much as I'd love to see You Lot play Glastonbury - even if I wasn't there).

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder what do Eat Static do that weekend during Glastonbury's gap years?

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

No pronghorn on that list :(

People missing Poptimism will get plenty of dancing opportunities courtesy of

DJ Pikey Clothing Stall
DJ Inflatable Wine Bottle

and the obvious DJ Rick's Tape Machine

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

B-b-but what happened to Terry Callier?! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not a final list pink/tom i'm sure there's still a chance they'll be added.

also has anyone new played the avalon stage for the last ten years?

alsoalso, WHERE IS NEW MAP OF SITE???

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe the Proclaimers are new to the Avalon stage, and I predict they could be quite a draw.

No Al Green :(

The dance lineup does indeed look a bit rub. The 'Dance Lounge Bar' looks the best of a bad lot - what is that?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

And what is Roy Ayers like these days?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The lack of Pronghorn is a blow, but look: Salmonella Dub!

Alba (Alba), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The PROD people are also hippie crustie trusties who do the 'we're _so_ progressive vibe which means they'll be able to get the politically-minded-but-naive thinking it's a perfect fit between the Glasto vibe and themselves.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 11 April 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a surprising amount of grime in that lineup. Especially if Scratchy is the guy from Roll Deep.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

it is a bit underwhelming but I don't really care, this year. I didn't really feel anything specific except the stuff at the Lock last year, and the rest was just atmosphere and hanging around different places.

it's probably a better dance lineup than last year, at least it has 2manydjs and mylo! who are both OK.

Am I the only one who thinks the dance booking person is just best pals with System 7 and Way Out West etc etc, they play every year and who even likes that stuff anymore! Crusties I suppose. So much breakbeat aswell, like an unholy amount. if you were into breaks glastonbury would be some kind of mecca.

I am hoping there'll be more stuff like the Lock Tavern but you never know I guess.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet they always get a crowd who love them tho Ronan (System 7) - I mean it has to be a given that most of the world's remaining System 7 fans will at least try to go to Glastonbury.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose so!

All the Kompakt/electrohouse stuff is all becoming so close to prog maybe people should just close their eyes and think of Engl...Germany. (while at System 7).

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Goldie Lookin' Chain
Jools Holland
The Thrills

This is the worst run I have ever seen. Thank god its not the actual schedule.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

tis the end of glastonbury as we know it. kylie?! i'm glad i didn't get a ticket.

cavern (cavern1), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Its looking increasingly unlikely I'm going to make this, unless I try and do Fri night - Sunday evening, which I'm still not sure about. :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Has your workmate managed to get a ticket? Did it originally belong to the Nigerian Energy Minister?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I am hoping there'll be more stuff like the Lock Tavern but you never know I guess.

piss off grandad :P

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually quite like the grimey look of this glasto, it was sorely lacking last year. Thanks for the optimism Carsmile!

Roy Ayers will indeed be interesting to say the least!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard that Kylie/Blue Monday mash-up the other day in a shoe shop. I don't know what all the fuss is about, it was rubbish.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

has cavern turned up from the bbc talking point?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just been informed I can have Friday afternoon and all of Monday off. Which means I AM COMING TO GLASTO!

Oh Eavis, why must thou torture me so EVERY SINGLE YEAR?!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

tis the end of glastonbury as we know it. matt dc?! i wish i hadn't got a ticket

have i woken up in 2002 again?

piscesboy, Friday, 15 April 2005 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Judging by the shoes, yes.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 15 April 2005 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Erol Alkan and JoJo De Freq are playing the Lock Tavern again. What time I'm unsure of, but HOORAY for the return of the best thing of the whole festival last year! it went on till 5 in the morning then and JoJo played Superpitcher followed by Joy Division as the last tunes.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

we may have talked about this before Ro but does that kind of thing really seem different at Glastonbury than it would at a club (in any big city) on a typical night? This may just come down to something as trivial as it not being in a big tent maybe I don't know...

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it does yeah, for definite.

it's the outdoor thing I think, it's really cool actually it gives it a really fresh feeling, you're relaxed and in glastonbury mood and then you get to............go and see the exact same kind of DJs you go and see at home!

Ah I sell myself short with that maybe (maybe not), but it is quite different I think.

In fact, on reflection, perhaps the biggest difference is the free nature of Glastonbury once you're inside, like if you want to walk out for 15 minutes and do something, you can. Then after the music ends you're not left stranded and thinking "where do we go now", it's more like "what will happen next" as you walk around and gravitate towards the hill at the back.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it! Talking to random strangers is also ten times better at Glastonbury than anywhere else!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you not discovered the London tent scene yet, stevem?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Erol Alkan and JoJo De Freq are playing the Lock Tavern again. What time I'm unsure of, but HOORAY for the return of the best thing of the whole festival last year!

where did u hear this ronan?

piscesboy, Thursday, 21 April 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Well reasoned Ronan. Sometimes it would be nice to get a minicab back to your tent tho...

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"South of the Old Railway Track at this time of night? Sorry mate. Try Glade Cars".

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the latest on dance-y stuf? the alt.rock ness of the line up is killing me this time and only confirmation that there'll be dancepop will save me.

piscesboy, Monday, 25 April 2005 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm starting to think i should go to Roskilde as Bikstok will surely be playing there...

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 25 April 2005 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It says on Ellen Allien's tour schedule that she's playing Glastonbury on the Friday.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 May 2005 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

This year's map is up:

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/index.asp?id=210

Not sure how accurate it is. Everything looks the same, apart from the dance area. I thought the New BandsJohn Peel tent was supposed to be moving elsewhere?

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Why was Ellen Allien not listed in the first announcement?

Also why are the Chemical Brothers listed as playing on their own on one of the stages.

Is it too much to hope for that there is going to be alot more dance booking going on, possibly by people like........the Chemical Brothers, and whoever booked Ellien Allien!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't Shimura Curves playing? Shame.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

that map is not accurate at all, unless Lost Vagueness is going back to being a camp site.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

LV is still there in the bottom right, was it further over last year?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
All is lost. Flee.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What a shit solution! I mean, I like the killers, but to headline glasto?! Still, it suits me, I hated the main stage anyway. I'm just glad that Coldplay are playing so that they'll draw lots of ppl away from the other areas!

Moaningpinky (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it just me or has that page now mysteriously gone blank and all reference to the story been removed from the news page? Have the protests been that quick and effective?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

fucking chumpwagons.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

How long before it disappears from here as well then?

Huey (Huey), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Alba, you have indeed killed that page! Glasto is cancelled!!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 26 May 2005 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

That NME link has changed. The Killers apparently turned down the slot.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

hurrah! no killers headline!

blimey this is as much of an emotional rollercoaster as las tnight ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yowzers! Respect to the Killers for knowing when something is wrong.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm.. that NME story doesn't say they've turned it down, only that no replacement is confirmed yet.

They should just let Brian Wilson headline.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Pronghorn.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

this is reminiscent of '98 when the stages sank and the headliners pulled out/got sick. it ended up with (swallows hard) KULA SHAKER headlining on the sunday. and they'd already played the day before.

piscesboy, Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey. I was there in 98 and I don't even remember that. I must have blanked it out.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Step back in time!

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Things you need to know. Tickets went on sale on 30th March on 0870 607 7380 and are still available as of today (24th April); you should be able to get through first time.

Happy days, eh?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 26 May 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello everyone. Since I was on the other side of the planet, I didn't get to particiapte in all the ticket-buying excitement and hoopla. But I am coming (thanks to Trish) and am very excited indeed. I'll be in a posse of about 7 or 8 Canadians. BEWARE.

Prolly camping around the same spot as last year (where Colette et al was too). A great spot. Going up on the Wednesday (yes, mentalism), and setting up our CANADIAN COMPOUND. Yup, big tent area covered in a tarp (learned our lesson from last year), marked by a big-ass Canadian flag, eh? OH BABY.

Could care less about the Pyramid stage. Plenty of stuff I want to see, and good dance/DJ lineups. But no Ozric Tentacles? Shame...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 26 May 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

So does anyone know the deal with buses/coaches/trains? I.E. are they all sold out? Still debating whether to rent cars/minivan or go public...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 26 May 2005 11:08 (twenty-one years ago)

the busses kind of don't sell out in that they just keep putting MORE AND MORE ON, certainly from london anyhoo.

http://www.nationalexpress.com/destinations/events/festivals/glastonbury.cfm

for national express, £30 i think, if there are 10 or more of you you get a 10% discount (but someone has to be ticket daddy)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 May 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, £35 from london

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 26 May 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yay Rob, I didn;t realise you were going! Just heard a Michael Eavis snippet & he said that the killers weren;t confirmed for it although he was in "talks" with them. The same as he is in "talks" with Ian Brown about it. But Killers headlining, I don't think so.

I have no idea where to camp, please help!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 26 May 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Clearly our Sunday night fun will have to come from the time honoured route of Ricky T's tape recorder.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Pink - camp near us crazy Canadians! It's a great spot. MattDC will attest to this. When are you going up?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I do like crazy canadians! ;-) We'll be going up on the Thursday morning. Leaving between 6 & 7 I should imagine. I am sooo excited this year for some reason. It's odd though because we're going on our own instead of in a big group. I know 2 other ppl going but they've got a camper van.
Whereabouts are you camping Rob or should I just trapse round the whole site looking for a Canadian settlement?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, we're going up early-ish on Wednesday, so we'll have a pretty good chance at camping where we want. I imagine we'll wind up where we were last year - the SE corner of the site. Can't remember the name of the actual field... But I am tempted to be near the John Peel tent as well, which is obviously closer to all 'the action'. Dunno - I'm partial to the SE spot though.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the John Peel tent actually the other stage, or is it under cover?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Div, of course it isn't!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

John Peel stage is the re-named 'New Bands' tent, in the upper east side of the site. It's also where the ILX-MASSIV camped last year, and are (possibly?) camping again this year(?)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaysis the new bands tent AGANE, I'm not sure about that. Obv if dead fish play then I am so there.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, the field is called 'Pennard Hill'.
HERE is a pretty good grid map of this year's layout. Last year our posse (Colette's crew, Trish and I, etc) was at U8 (roughly). I think ILX loonies were around E3/F3...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And for you cartography freaks, here is an official, 1:500 super-detailed grid map of the 2005 site done by the the glasto festival office...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually have butterlies today because I am getting so excited!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, this is a direct link to that official map...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

that big map is ACES.

remember the advantages of new bands/john peel are:

1. not in the back of beyond
2. everyone else who camps there is deaf seemingly
3. not far to carry stuff
4. dead fish OH NO, WHAT AM I SAYING????

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate to bring this up so early on in the proceedings, but what are the toilets like if you camp near to one of the stages?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Foul.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you see that's what I thought. I mean the toilets away from the stage are godawful, so I dread to think what the others are like. Although I believe i found the holy grail of toilets last year. Managed to go into one in the Lost Vagueness field that had just been cleaned & smelt of bleach. How welcome that smell was!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually the ones just up the hill from the New Bands tent ones weren't too bad, because it was not such a busy stage, plus they were further out than the stage itself, so didn't get used by people on their way from there to the main festival area.

But generally, I think the toilet situation is one of the main reasons not to camp near a stage.

That map is great - I must find print it off on A3.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed it is a fantastic map!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am intrigued by 'Michael's Mead' in quadrant F8. Is this Eavis's attempt to challenge the Brothers Bar Perry hegemony?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to be really careful with that stuff this year.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I could not indulge in the stuff as soon as I made the connection between the smell of the cider & the smell of the toilets! euw!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Perry-mead shandies are the way to go.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

assuming you are trying to get to HELL

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

we've got our CARAVAN with ELECTRICITY booked, to be parked on the caravan grounds by the HOT SHOWERS and 24 HOUR BAR.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

so yes, i'm excited.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Get one jealousy! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

you can visit. we ended up with about 15 people back on the friday night last time!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, sweet! :-) My brother & his girl are taking a motorhome too. It looks like a palace! I've never been so excited in my life as when his girl said to me "i'm thinking about getting a chemical loo"!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on Lauren - is this in the backstage area? If so, aren't we plebs not allowed to visit?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

no, it's not - it's off the grounds, actually. maybe a 15 min walk?

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I think I know. I camped with a camper van friend once. I liked it up there, though I think some of my friends got a bit scared walking back on their own in the dark cause it was so quiet. I don't remember any TWENTY-FOUR HOUR BAR though.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

We might never find our way back though!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

What is the quickest possible way for me to get from Islington at 1pm on the Friday straight down to the site? Am I going to have to bite the bullet and get the train and brave Castle Cary Monday mentalism?

Thankyou muchly to the kind person who offered to take my tent down early for me. You are a hero.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

the bar was opened june 2003. the people who live in the big house near the camper ground apparently decided that they could make some ££ off the festival-goers instead of viewing them as 4-day nuisance.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

blimey, 1pm is an rubbish time to try and leave mate...

options are:

coach:
depart 1300 arrive 1640
depart 1530 arrive 1910

train:
depart 1300 arrive 1556 (via bath)
depart 1315 arrive 1556 (via swindon and trowbridge!)
depart 1505 arrive 1639

train arrivals are to CC obv, not the site itself...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

last train service direct, hence the speed...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

so what's the experience with hiring cars and driving in? i was ready to go after the mentalism of sunday night, and would have happily left then, if i'd been the driver. thinking about doing just that this year.

any reason anyone can think of that hiring a car might be a bad idea?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

the people who live in the big house near the camper ground apparently decided that they could make some ££ off the festival-goers instead of viewing them as 4-day nuisance.

Gosh - this sounds great and of dubious licensing legality. Do they sell moonshine?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Going by car is a bit of a lottery. Can be great and you can get stuck in atrocious jams (esp. on the way out) for hours and hours. Last year I got a lift home with some friends who had arrived late and thus were parked miles and miles from the centre. The walk back to the car park nearly killed us BUT the plus side was that we were then really close to the exits and got out dead quickly (while listening to tales on Avalon FM of other people having been stuck ALL DAY in their car parking fields). So we felt smug.

Unfortunately you don't get much of a choice about where to park, so if you arrive on Thursday then you might find you're herded into a field that you'll never get out of on Monday.

I suppose you can get around all this by getting up really really early on Monday, or alternatively hanging around a decaying site till really late.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

no, but they have nice blood marys.

and a huge, roaring fire overnight when it's chilly.

i can't wait.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

You are making this place up.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i know. it's totally a brigadoon type of scenario. believe me - when our friend hiked us what seemed like miles outside of the grounds promising that there was a 24hr bar at the end of it all (as frogs and crickets and things like that made lonesome country noises), we didn't take him seriously. we prepared to slump, cold and slightly resentful, into our bunks. and all of a sudden, as we approached the site, a sliver of light was visible from the door of an outbuilding. and that light was from... THE 24HOUR BAR.

if it's not there this year, i'm going to have a fit.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i was thinking about arriving really late on wednesday (leaving london after work) and leaving late on sunday night?

we drove out super early sunday morning last year (about 5, i think?) and it was super quick and easy. i'd rather just leave at like 2 or 3 rather than try to sleep for 2 hours and then drive, like last year.

lauren, your setup sounds amazing! did you hire the caravan or do you know someone that has one anyway?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

hire. i wish i knew someone with their own!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Colette - that sounds like you should be fine. I am envious. Leaving late on Sunday is the way to go, I think. It's just finding a sober driver that's the stumbling block.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

colette, another reason for not car hiring, what if it rains and it gets stuck in the mud? i suppose you could always hire a chelsea tractor or similar ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

This sort of happened to us in 1998, but it was happening to everyone so it wasn't so bad. Actually, it was. But anyway. Take some planks of wood in your boot for sticking under the tyres in this eventuality.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Or something - why am I pretending to be an expert in getting cars out of mud?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be selling blankets and hats and other festival-type stuff at the Oxfam tent - come and see me and the krazy krew!

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

We didn't really have any trouble when we left at about 6.30-7 on the Monday morning. I was awake anyway, so getting up & going didn't bother me. There wasn't any queues or jams.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone is still after tickets, they've put the returns on sale: http://www.seetickets.com/g2005

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

damn. sold out already. (i'm still trying to get 1 more friend a ticket)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

caravan and 24 bar - wow. how very posh!
colette, we're likely renting a car (or minivan). it does have its disadvantages, but we want to check out stonehenge with our fellow canucks on the drive up on wednesday, since it will be completely open to the public. the big problem, of course, is that by getting in early, it will be VERY difficult to get out on monday - we'll probably have to leave crazy early...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Stonehenge is a bit rubbish.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, just a bunch of rocks, but my overseas peeps want to see it.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The rocks are OK. It's just the whole set up. I suppose it helps if they're having a free day (why is this - some kind of druid reason) but then again that would mean huge crowdsa and screaming children.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

you can just gawp at it on the way past, stopping seems a bit excessive, it was all built by the victorians anyway you know...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Do I need one of these wanky Citizen Card things if I've got my passport?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Allegedly but I hope not.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

did you book through the UK again "Yer Man O'Farrell"?

for overseas this year I think I need a credit card receipt. should be ok.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

We stopped at Stonehenge en route to Glasto in 2002. Great was the weather, not great was the admission price.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I'm going to have to pick them up from 'JH Haskins (the main furniture store)' in Shepton Mallet. I'm worried there's going to be a three armchair minimum to pick them up. I think you definitely need a photo ID of some sort.

http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/index.asp?id=69

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

though apparently they won't turn you away if you have a passport.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear Glastonbury Customer,

Please note the collection point for your tickets to this years festival is -
JH Haskins (the main furniture store in Shepton Mallet)
64 High Street
Shepton Mallet.
BA4 5AX

In order to collect your tickets you must provide either your credit card or
credit card statement as proof of identity.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh right, good point. But you need your passport to actually get in after you've picked up your ticket.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

though apparently they won't turn you away if you have a passport.

I'm sure you're right, because there are going to be an awful lot of people with passports and nothing else. Why don't they list (non-hologram) passports as acceptable ID on that page. It's daft.

The deadline for applying for one of the "Citizen Cards" is this Thursday, btw. You can do the whole thing online (emailing them a digital headshot and a scan of your signature) but be warned that you also need to provide a referee who's from one of the old-school professions (doctor, lawyer, teacher, civil servant) and not related t you. This is far tighter than the list who can vouch for you on a passport application these days. I'm all right cause I know teachers and civil servants but I bet they'll be plenty of younger kids who'll struggle.

I can't see this whole photo ID thing being very tightly enforced at all.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The Police strongly discourage people from turning up with passports, because a percentage of them will of course go missing.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you cap up Police so that someone would make a Sting joke?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, I understand that, but if you're flying there you haven't got much choice.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't they say last year they'd check photo id too? And it never happened?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it didn't have to be photo ID last year and they did check a small percentage. But yeah, checking everyone would slow it all down to a crawl.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

But I guess as long as you know there's a chance of being checked, it puts you off buying one off a tout.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that's the general way it works. My friend had to sell a ticket last year and he asked about it at Shepton when we were collecting them, ie would the other guy be ok? (He didn't know him, just advertised for a sale, face value)

The girl there just began mocking him a bit about this but assured him it would be fine

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

just to add, your employer is on the approved list of referees. it's on the first page, then disappears from the list, but is one of the choices in the pull down menu on the application. i just got someone at my work who vaguely supervises me to be my 'employer'...

also, toby's clever idea for those of us without scanners (i don't know why i didn't think of it) is to take a digital pic of your signature.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

My Citizencard has arrived!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v417/albaalba/ilx/ccard.jpg

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Why does it have two photos of you on it?

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

That is very hurtful.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww, Nick, only joking. How are you doing anyway?

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not really hurt!! I am OK and looking forward to Glastonbury!

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I just booked my flights.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Make your you pack your hair gel.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Your = sure. I have been drinking.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I might get my haircut soon. it really is long now.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Why not get it cut AT GLASTONBURY? This must be possible.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Also utter madness. My friend will cut it, she is trained in such things.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan, I'm concerned you're not feeling the voibe enough.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll cut it for you. Maybe after the Lock Tavern. What's the worst that can happen?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Apart from me drunkenly shaving all your hair off and glueing it to your chin so you look like Michael Eavis.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

And then licking your head.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to Glastonbury once, it was stuffed full of crusties and accountants all shouting 'bollocks'. I won't be going again.

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I have only just finished my thesis and am remembering how to feel anything. If I tell you Glastonbury will be like this..........

http://stat.discogs.com/R/455754-1115914036.jpg

do you believe then I am feeling the voibe? it will be like that. I am sincerely looking forward to smoking some spliffs near the brothers bar and going to see erol/jojo play till the sun comes up again. hooray!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Good times.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Remember when we picked up that little Japanese boy in the Circus tent?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet you wish I didn't go to bed and leave that comment hanging there for 12 hours.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

did I say comment, I meant boy...

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

This is going to be the best Glasto ever. I've even persuaded myself I want to see some of the acts.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"Full line up" in the Graun today

LAst thing Friday night is a bit barren though.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I totally missed Kelis as well. Has she just been added?

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Still no Kylie replacement confirmed yet?

Well done everyone (inc. Eavis) for making me pissed off about not going in earnest now.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe art brut will do a Carter cover

ja (_ja_), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe CHAS AND DAVE will do a Carter cover.

xpost oh cock.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm all right cause I know teachers and civil servants but I bet they'll be plenty of younger kids who'll struggle.

kids know teachers. they get taught by them. at school.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Pitman, Whitey

ja (_ja_), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

WHERE ARE DEAD FISH????

ja (_ja_), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Where are Pronghorn come to think of it?

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

why arent the cocking dance tents sorted day/time wise like the rest in the official line up?

this will literaly be the first year i don't even make it to the main stage field.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't have hospitality this year, god dammit. i'll have to take a shit in the stinky bogs like the rest of you proles ffs.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you Prog HongroPronghorn?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

My friend is going down there on the basis she will be able to get a ticket down there, what are her chances?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Anecdotally, nil.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously?

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

My list of like to sees is similar to Tom's, minus the Futureheads and plus, I guess, the Chemical Brothers yawn stretch etc, Nouvelle Vague (I have sold a few hundred of their CD so why not), Husky Rescue, and Whitey.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus, I have been reduced to saying I'm looking forward to seeing indie band.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste, seriously, the chances of getting a ticket are vanishingly small, and even if she did get one it would be very unlikely to get her in.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ste, it's probably best of her if she didn't go down there without a ticket! It used to be easy to get in without one, but not any more & her chances of actually getting a ticket down there is zero. She may find one to buy at a ridiculously inflated price, only to discover it's not going to gain her access!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

arrrgh.. whitey.

i just got depressed because i realized that NO ONE will see steve earle with me.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

She may find one to buy at a ridiculously inflated price, only to discover it's not going to gain her access!

Yeah this is what I was warning her about, she refuses to believe me and argues that "they say the same thing every year".

oh well, it's her money.
thanks for the responses anyway guys.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

everybody seems to hate whitey...is there something I should know?

I liked a remix and his record which is on the Glimmers "The Glimmers" mix cd.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I got really quite paranoid near the the actual site last year as I'd stupidly read stories about ppl asking to check your tickets & then running off with them! *gulp*

I am stupidly excited about glasto. So close now, it's great!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I leave 3 weeks today!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

you should ask people who've had anything to do with them why everyone hates them.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll see Steve Earle with you, Lauren! Is he playing the folk tent?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

From another internet:

I have two mates from London that went down the first year of the big fence. They drove to one of the
fields near Glasto that used to run car their own car parks. I don't think these cowboy car park
operators are allowed anymore.

Anyway they spent about 18 hours from Thursday evening till mid afternoon Friday wandering around in the undergrowth,
following all kinds of false leads about where and how they might get and getting chased several times by security.
They eventually paid some farmer who was delivering milk to the site about £30 each to get in, hidden in the
back of his trailer.

I doubt if this approach would work now, since if you remember in the first year of the fence, all the problems with
crime and that occurred outside the fence. Since then they have made it much harder to get anywhere near the site without a ticket.
I imagine anyone cruising around outside the site without a ticket would be picked up pretty fast.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post yeah lauren those are the kind of stories I heard I think...cancellations etc

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"etc"

heh.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

don't go without a ticket. TOTAL waste of time.

if the legendarily hard-as-f*ck scallies of 2000 couldn't get in in 2002 (and they couldn't) then no-one can.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll see Steve Earle with you, Lauren! Is he playing the folk tent?

yes, apparently he's last on friday. hmm.. with the fairly weak headlining competition that night it might not be too hard to convince people - i don't know anyone who's going to be making a mad rush to the white stripes.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

My other horror story is of a couple of friends who turned up two years ago on the Wednesday and only got in Friday morning, and only then because they knew someone in David Kitt's entourage.

In summary then: Don't Try It.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

So the Killers have turned down the headline slot, who will be the replacement?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Mayer? Superpitcher featuring Rod Stewart? WHOEVER'S LEFT OUT OF THE BEATLES AND ELVIS COSTELLO????

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I do hope Eavis remembers that this is meant to be a replacement FOR KYLIE.

I'd be quite happy with the Scissor Sisters even though I saw them last year. I'm more concerned about there being zero good headliners on Friday but there's always the Rizla tent.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I actually was really keen to see Kylie, it's an awful shame, it'd be nice to actually see and enjoy a headliner at it some year.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

but there's always the Rizla tent.

is it b-b-back?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I use "the Rizla tent" to mean "any and all unofficial stages, including DJ Pikey Clothing Stall"

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought about that the Scissor Sisters would be a good replacement, but it isn't going to happen. I head an interview with them recently & they said that they wouldn't be doing it as they are out of the country. Also, Eavis said he wasn't going to try to "replace" Kylie rather just "fill the slot".

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I am still hoping they might get Prince in. This is a forlorn hope, I know, but it wd be SO GOOD if they did.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I got last year's tickets on the vain hope that Prince was going to play. I'd like Outkast to play (as they were rumoured to) but then that would mean I'd have to go to the godamnawful pyramid stage!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Outkast before, must have been in 2001 or so. They played for 25 minutes and it was "goodnight sprunton there will be no encore"

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

why haven't they invited madonna to take kylie's place? she's most similar in poppy huge stage shows, has a set ready from last summer, is doing the liveaid thing, so is ok performing this summer AND she's local.

i really think this should happen. seriously.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

We could try DJ Knackered Tape Deck on the Friday instead of the Sunday, it might have logistical advantages (though the living on the edge was part of the appeal last year, our joy growing as each "are you alive?" failed to be met with our well-deserved destruction).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think DJ Knackered Tape Deck keeps to a schedule Andrew.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Outkast before, must have been in 2001 or so. They played for 25 minutes and it was "goodnight sprunton there will be no encore"
Come on Ronan, what did you say to offend them?

Madonna headlinging Glasto? I couldn't think of anything worse. Although having said that, at least it'll keep ppl at the main stage & away from the other stages.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The chances of Madge agreeing to be second-choice to Kylie are surely infinitesimal.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, Colette I was also thinking about Madonna, though slightly less seriously than you. Stranger things have happened at sea though.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on Ronan, what did you say to offend them?

"I've stopped dancing to 'Hey Ya' two years in advance"

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I really liked them then. Those were weird days, it was at Creamfields Ireland and I wasn't on drugs.......

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Have managed to get a ticket, well my friend did. I’m pleased to be going as I missed last year (Muse, McCartney, Doh!) and I’ll be getting mashed with my mates. I am not too pleased about the line up this year. Doe’s anyone have any idea to the TBC slots?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

This year's line up is far better than last years! Still there were a few bands that played last year that I wish would play this year.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Only the Pet Shop Boys can save Sunday now. Its time to get petitioning. Unless they're off hawking Kettlechip Potemkin round the world or something.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

are there any good headliners on any stages on any days? i had a look last night when i was very tired and i couldn't see anything good at all...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I still like Outkast. The PSBs is a good call. Though maybe they're more 'afternoon' (like when they played in 2000).

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I hadn't even thought about PSB but god that would be incredible.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby, the Go! Team on Saturday are as good as it gets.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

they are an unholy racket!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

a motley crew!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

a disorganised rabble!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

in other words, they suck.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I would rather just see the real Alvin Simon and Theodore

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

are you thinking of akon?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe there is a student petition to get Neighbours' Karl Kennedy to perform! Bluddy students!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

akon vs the go team is a tough one. akon has never given rockist interviews so he wins resoundingly.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

What do the Go! Team have to be rockist about?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

when i saw the go! team, the rapping girl was wearing a bra top and trackie bottoms. i know i'm shallow, but that alone was enough to put me right off them.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the record is okay but yeah it didn't work for me live.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Obvious control question: have yez seen the Avalanches live, and what did you think?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not seen either live. I just hate the Go-Team record. more jokes...

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

go team were ok when i saw them. i think i might find them v annoying 2nd time round though, the audience participation was a bit too much for me 1st time around...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

My tickets just turned up! HOORAY!

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

AAARGH missed the tiXoRs because I was at work and Isabel was taking the rabbit to the vet. I have spent a million million minutes on useless seetickets phoneline and will get them redelivered, fingers crossed, as if £180 in vets' bills wasnt enough :(

Tom (Groke), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

so have they sent the ticket out by courier or summat? why didn't they just do them special delivery like usual (fortunately meg was in when mine came)?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Vets' bills suck Tom, I hope the animal/s in question are OK!

We had this conversation about tickets this morning actually!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The animal is fine yes, my annoyance at the vets' bills is partly down to my suspicion that she always was fine and was just in a mood.

Mind you the tickets thing did remind me to finally get my citizencard sorted out.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

And last night we worked out several nailed on choices for THE TAPE. Come on Ben Liebrand!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm, we had to pay out about £1,000 on one of our cats recently, thank god for pet insurance!
Did the tickets not come via royal mail then?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i got an email yesterday from those delivery people (they didn't leave a card, though). i'm going to try to arrange redelivery in a minute...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Just booked my train ticket. That's Fear #1 out of the way (that the trains will be booked up and I won't make it onto the site until 11.30 on Friday night).

New Fear #1 is I'll turn up and they won't accept my passport as ID, and then turn me away.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 5 June 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on Ben Liebrand!
-- Tom (freakytrigge...), June 3rd, 2005.

4 words to bring a smile to anyone at 1 am! come on indeed.

piscesboy, Sunday, 5 June 2005 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

that's NOT EVEN the best version of eve of the war, i have a corking 70s disco version of it, oooooooh, LAAAAAAAAAAAR...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

So Basement Jaxx are confirmed as the headliners to replace Kylie.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurray!!!

How does the delivery thing work??

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my gosh!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! They were great last year when they headlined the other stage.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

can anyone confirm rumour of the Young Knives playing this year?

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

:-(

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

If you're stuck for something to do on Friday night you could do worse than come and see me (!) at the 'continental drifts dome', in the lost vagueness field. I'm in the 35-piece Brazilian drumming and dancing band due on at 1.40am. More info:

http://www.continentaldrifts.co.uk/htm/driftsfrm.htm

We play grubby, noisy Northeast Brazilian rhythms, some distance removed from your typical samba.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Crikey! It may just be a date.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds very interesting indeed. I love the Lost Vagueness field too.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

If you see a small fellow dwarfed by a large drum the chances are it'll be me.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 6 June 2005 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

What ID are they after at the gates?

My driving licence is with the authorities I’ve heard they don’t accept passports, is this true?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

passports aren't of the main list as they are trying to discourage people from bringing them BUT i understand that they are fine.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

So can we just use our driving licences?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, read the website Sarah! duh!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 6 June 2005 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

a guy i used to work with is PLAYING at glastonbury this year. my god.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

so is there gonna be some kinda ilx0r cider free for all or summat? i'd kinda like to meet some of you people so i can see the "who??" look on your faces n stuff.

g-kit (g-kit), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

22/6 to 28/6
High pressure is expected to build, bringing increasingly fine and settled weather to much of southern England where it should become warm. Central and northern areas are expected to be rather unsettled at first, although things should improve during the week as drier weather develops and temperatures rise.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

and a warm glow has just spread across Japanese Giraffe's little heart.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

in other words, thanks for that, Tom

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't thank me, thank falsehope.com

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, got you.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Monday, 6 June 2005 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

It's rain

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 9 June 2005 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

When I linked to that site a year ago you scoffed at me. Which is good, because it was predicting sunshine and it shat it down. I hope it's not got any more reliable in the intervening time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 9 June 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Have just been going through the line up & have realised that a lot of what I wanna watch is gonna clash.

Anybody else got this problem, if so who’s clashing with who?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 10 June 2005 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, I still don't have any tickets! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 June 2005 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a number on the site you can ring to chase them. Its in the "information" section under "tickets". They didn't leave me a calling card or send an e-mail but apparently the tickets were at the courier waiting for me to sort it out.

I'd definitely try calling them. It doesn't seem like they're terribly well organised. Surprise surprise.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 10 June 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Which is good, because it was predicting sunshine and it shat it down.

Well the Thursday and Friday were gorgeously sunny and warm.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was still raining on Thursday morning.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 June 2005 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I called them & have rearranged. They've been sitting with the courier since 31st May & they haven't left a card yet! fuxors!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was still raining on Thursday morning.

Our coach got to the site last year at around 2pm on the Thursday last year and the weather was absolutely perfect bar a bit of a gust. I don't recall it raining until waking up on the Saturday around noon to the sound of the deluge.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I predict less if any rain this year. Sometimes my predictions are corrext!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 10 June 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought for a second that said "ruin".

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Put them away

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Its not really in the spirit of the thing, is it?

Also, this guy did it first, with his head, I suspect it has already been linked to here.

Thinking about it, anyone with a logo on their clothes is already doing this. Its not such a big step.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 10 June 2005 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Kelis still not listed on the official site. I fear there will be no Kelis.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 11 June 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't suppose anyone not going to Glastonbury has a decent-sized rucksack I could borrow for the weekend?

I'm also starting to regret abandoning my sleeping bag last year.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 11 June 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did you abandon it?

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 11 June 2005 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Forecast has been updated:

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/14days.asp?zipcode=Ba4

Looking much better. A bit more sun would be nice, but the cloud cover means that the nights will be warm at least.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 12 June 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

SATURDAY.
02.00 Big Screen, Sin City

How good?

I KNEW they would show Sin City.

goonies is on as well.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Monday, 13 June 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 June 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Rain's moved on to Monday, now.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

Oh alright, a bit on Sunday, maybe God wants us to keep the noise down.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Given the way the forecast has changed from no rain to some to buttloads on Monday, I have decided to give it no more heed until next week, when it will stand half a chance of being accurate.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Can anyone with a metereological bent give me any idea of the confidence levels associated with 10-14 day forecasting? I have a feeling they are v.low indeed.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

Meteorological. I always get that wrong.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

Anything above 5 days = untrustworthy unless we are in an unusually stable patch.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Would you trust a man called Everton Fox?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

I just had a look at the (incredibly vague) Met Office four-week forecast. This basically says they're not confident enough to predict anything much.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 13 June 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Boo them, rain sucks!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 June 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

btw, my Glastonbury packing tip for this year involves a bottle of that anti-bacterial dry handwash they run out in the portaloos. Especially handy if you're going to have to handle contact lenses (I still had a few daily disposables left last year but I've only got monthlies now).

You can get it in larger branches of Boots, in the soap section.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

I've only got monthlies now

what exactly have you had done whilst you've been away???

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I get it.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Is 'monthlies' a term for the curse? In which case, no I am not a woman now. If I were, I would be eating feminine mints.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

good, that's good to know...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

I am also going to bring a collapsible water thing (tank? carrier? container? canteen? jerry can?)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Your search - "collapsible flagon " - did not match any documents.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

alba, millets has what they call the 'platypus' or something that's pretty cheap, their version of the camelback water bag thingys. i was thinking about getting one as well.

since i don't have any trainers that i'm willing to sacrifice this year in the event of wet weather, i had a mission when i was in spain. i successfully bought shoes for under 10 euros (6, actually) which is essentially disposable for the weekend. and they are SO UGLY that i actually like them. they're like a weird cross between basketball high tops and wrestling boots. you can all laugh at me when i wear them.

i also, since it was like 100 degrees and i was all suntanned and optimistic, bought shorts to wear. since i've been wearing my coat since i got back, probably not much of a chance that i'll be wearing them, but still. i have shorts! hurrah!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 13 June 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

I have some disposable shoes too. Or did I dispose of them at the last Glastonbury? I must check.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 13 June 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Metcheck is the worst site in the entire universe.

That said I hope it's right.

Is there a freya.metcheck.com that has the real forecasts?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

Should I be concerned? My driving license is with the authorities, I’ve just checked my passport & it doesn’t have a hologram & I’ve heard nothing from citizen card.

Erm…help!

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

It's best to give the Glasto ppl a call. When did you send your citizen card info off?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

cheers pink, i'll give the glasto pips a call. i got confirmation from citizen card on the 6th june saying my application was going through.

i'm sure my passport will be fine(?).

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure it will be, so I wouldn't sweat it too much, but in situations like these, it's best not to spend the next week panicing. I on the other hand am nervously waiting for my tickets to arrive tomorrow. *gulp*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

who's got a good link to the full line up? the one in the guardian was ok but it had no times/ dates for the dance tents.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

The offical noticeboards:
http://forums.virtualfestivals.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53351

Can I use my passport as ID?
Technically yes, if it is valid (i.e. not expired) - however the Police are strongly discouraging this as passports are valuable to thieves. If you can, please use another form of accepted ID. If you insist on bringing your passport please look after it, and store it in one of the lockups at the Festival.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

glasto FAP or wha?

Thursday night near the brothers' bar I'm guessing. We'll be waving a Girls Aloud scarf.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Plenty of photos on this here site. We will almost certainly be singing Ticket To Ride over some hardcore gabba.

we're thinking about arriving 'after work wednesday', whenever that means. i'm getting scared thinking about putting a tent up in the dark, though...

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Will you be up on Pennant's Hill again, or with the ILX massive? If the latter, I'll be arriving late Wednesday, and wouldn't mind other people to set up camp/mark off space/dig shark infested trenches with.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

ATTENTION ANYONE WHO IS A MEMBER OF CAMP SAUSAGE

At some point in the next week I need to see you in a pub to:

a) Get my ticket
b) Give you my tent

Next Tuesday or Wednesday would be good for me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

i've just read the last two posts together. is the ILX camp called 'camp sausage' anywhere other than matt's head? because if so...pennawhatsit hill sounds somehow less scary.

but otherwise, i see no reason not to camp with ilx people.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

if anybody would like a handy and simple-to-understand five-page word document with all the stage details transcribed lovingly by me, please email me at the geemail address below...

(no actual stage times i'm afraid, but it's nonetheless a damn sight easier to cross-reference than glasto's own site - bear in mind that the "main" atages are chronologically listed, but the "dance etc" stages are reverse chronlogical, for infuriating reasons unexplained)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Camp Sausage was a term coined Not By Me in the pub last week. Its an eventuality I would like averted if possible.

Taking sides: Charlie's five-page Word Document vs Dave B's EXCEL SPREADSHEET from last year.

(Actual answer - the little Guardian Guide things that hang round your neck. I still have one from every Glasto I've been to, sad twat that I am...)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

I know not this Camp Sausage, and welcome all comers to Pikey's Rest

(i have all of my grauniad things ever oh dear)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha. "Planning".

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Metcheck back to rain again, surprise surprise!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Matt, yes! ticket! sorting out!!

next tuesday i am going to see PUNK and DOLLY MIXTURES filums at the barbican from 7.30, so should we meet on wednesday?

camp sausage is so-called due to the probable lack of females in the camp. there may be a starry and ktee but they may run away and join the ljers on pennards. for entirely inexplicable reasons both myself and ptee are very keen on staying next to the new bands tent.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

I hope you have made a suitable flag/banner to advertise your area as Camp Sausage! It has so many levels.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

whichever level they choose i'm sure it will be the lowest.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

Google images has come up with this for "Camp Sausage" so beware!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

IT WILL NOT BE CALLED CAMP SAUSAGE.

Also no decision has yet been made as to where we camp ahem.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

Did you want it to be called Sausage Camp instead Tom?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 08:42 (twenty years ago)

If there's no decision, steps may be taken on the ground, and, indeed, in the field. Specifically as few steps as possible in the dark with tentropes all over the place.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

Still no tickets! *gulp*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

yeah, that's true. will it be up to early arrivers to pick the space for the group?

if it's going to be a 'sausage situation' i can go camp with the ladees somewhere else, though, i guess?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

i think colette will be in the ilx camp? at least that's our plan as far as i'm aware...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

ha x-post. we have now got tickets but not a car permit; i rang up this morning and they said that had been sent separately last night, so here's hoping...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

We don't want it to be a sausage party Colette! The name arose after we thought it would end up that way.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)

yeah, pink, maybe your tickets only got sent out later because they had a car pass as well, or something?

now i've got the phrase 'sausage factory' in my head, but don't even know what that could mean. probably gross, though.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

Have any of you ilx people camped together before, if so did you get on or clash?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

^^Most of the ILXors are friends & meet on a regular basis Godwin!

Colette - they were sent out on 31st May, but the couriers have been totally rubbish. I have just confirmed with them that they are out for delivery today. Phew!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

We all (except Colette & Rob & The Irish Contingent) camped together last year. We drove up in a big bus!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, and except PinkPanther. Being friends doesn't mean you can camp together, necessarily.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, and except PinkPanther.
Get one outcast! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

Pink, easy! I was just wondering, as I’m new (ish) compared to some of you seasoned ilxors.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

well, i'm not new, but that's news to me.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

I got a car pass and didn't order one. Anyone need one?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Most of the LONDON ilxors.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Pink, easy!
Sorry I just need to confirm here, do you mean "easy" as a greeting, or easy as in "easy tiger"?

Oh & to everyone else, I meant the London Ilxors on this particular thread of course! grrrr!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

2manydjs on the Sunday night, what a magnificent idea

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

easy tiger, it was the "Godwin!" that made me think you were being a little touchy. oh and what's with the little squiggle at the start of that post?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

Um, not touchy at all, just making sure that you knew I was talking to you & the "^" is to show I was pointing at you! Jeez, I was just trying to help! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

oh noes, fites.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

Oops!

It’s just that when I see, hear Godwin, I’m usually in trouble.

I’ll have to get familiar to the squiggle usage on here.

Thanks for the help by the way. ;-)

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

De nada G! (is that better?)

maravilloso!

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

I have a question which Aloud could not help me with.

Is Stevem going to Glastonbury?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

no, because he hates fun.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

I can't think of any other reason why not.

this year I am staying in a hotel in Bristol on the Monday after, no more horrible sleeping in the airport. I am going to have a sensible moderated Glastonbury (with some excesses), and actually feel like a human being come the Sunday.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

but it's no fun if we don't bump into you seeing through time on the sunday ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

usually it's more like soulcrushing despair on the sunday!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

I’ll have to get familiar to the squiggle usage on here.

I think that's just a Pink thing. I've never seen it before.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

oh right, so i wasn't the only one baffled?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah you'll be able to spot me at Glasto with the "i am different" t-shirt on!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

haha

unrelated story:

i was walking through victoria station last saturday and saw a young, if you will, gothic lady with a "nobody knows i'm a lesbian" t-shirt on. i then saw another, if you will, chav young lady shout "DYKE!" in her direction...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

signs point to a thursday arrival, which i'm excited about. i've only gone on the saturday morning in the past.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Haha, what a fantastic story Carsmile!
x-post

Mine has to be wet wipes.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

God, it's almost like you want to hear them.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

I got a car pass and didn't order one. Anyone need one?

is it independent of the ticket? if so and ours doesn't show up, then yes...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Its a car sticker I think (or did everyone get a car sticker so they can drive near the site?)

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

The car parking ticket was a car sticker last year. No specific details on it at all.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

I will be there this time next week

i'm getting there about 9am wednesday, can't wait. It’s great watching how quickly it fills up over the Thursday & Friday.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Alas we are not getting there til Thursday, although there's no reason I can't go on the wednesday!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

We (friends & I) always get there as early as possible. It’s handy as you can choose where you camp, you can mark out space for friends & you’re accustomed to the bumpy ground, cold nights and nuclear hot tent at 8 in the morning for when the fun starts.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Hm, I am tempted!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

yeah and you're sort of in a haze by the time it starts, I like it that way

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I feel bad for those who arrive late and have to set up in the dark only to find they’re an inch from the bogs.

If there are many reasons for taking extra days off and getting there early, that’s has to be in the top 5.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

I'm not getting there til late Friday afternoon so will miss meeting you, Mr Godwin. Unless I end up bumping into you at some point over the weekend, which is hardly unlikely.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

That bus ride last year was fantastic. It had that massive first-day-of-school-journey feeling of excitement about it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

woo, we have a car parking pass and citizen cards!

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 16 June 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah the ILX bus ride is always great, scaring the tinies with our immense sadness.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

ooh, just like the snow-drift glastonbury of 1945 (when it was moved from June to December so as not to clash with the VE celebrations)!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

the hotter it is, the warmer that can of stellar will be. i'm praying for ice!

That's why my drink of choice is red wine! Come on sun.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Red wine is good except for the stomach the next day (see also perry). And the red teeth. I need to think of more good warm drinks. Whisky, I guess.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

HOT AND SPICY CIDER!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Calamacho!!!!

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

vih-tah-lique! vih-tah-lique!

I shall be bringing a bottle of Scheweppes tonic. It will contain some tonic. But mostly GIN.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

If there is one thing calculated to bring about my first Glastonbury hurl, it's neat warm gin.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Why don't they do perry ice lollies?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I am going to investigate warmish vodka-and-apple-juice I think.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 16 June 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

the glastonbury 2005 line up thread

just in case you hadn't seen this.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 16 June 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Why don't they do perry ice lollies?

Good point. You used to be able to get cider(flavour) lollies, didn't you?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 16 June 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

That reminds me, must get a cheap bottle of white port.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 16 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

i'm getting excited! just bought a load of wipes, and shopping for wine boxes at the weekend, and hoping the tent actually makes it.

and this weather! please please please let it be this nice...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

Did I read that thread correctly or is Vitalic really playing on Saturday? Good lord I'm excited.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

They are playing to the tradional Glastonbury audience of three men and a dog, as that's all you can fit into the Lock Tavern.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

phwoar! Cider lollies. now they were the business!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

the hotter it is, the warmer that can of stellar will be. i'm praying for ice

i dig a hole for my cans, keeps them cool.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

you can still get cider lollies from all good ice cream vans. i had one at Glastonbury last year (or may have been 2002). it cost about £1.50 but whaddya gonna do?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

bring your own lollies & dig a hole. DUH.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

Glasto weather guru, Richard Angwin has updated his forecast. Possible thunderstorms for Sunday!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

I treated myself to some fancy waterproofs the other day, so it better rain at some point.

I’ve only been rained on once at glasto, wasn’t much either. Ain’t seen any mud there either.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

lucky sod. i reprazented at TWO mudbaths.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

As it's never happened to me(the mud thing), give me some survival tips, just in case.

If you don’t mind?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

someone post that picture of all of us wearing bin-liner skirts...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

My survival tips.

1. Sulk around for ages tiptoeing through the mud so as not to fall in it. Not really enjoy myself much.

2. Fall on arse, cover self in mud, have drunken epiphany and go on to have one of the best and most hedonistic nights of my life (covered in mud)

In other words, if it's going to piss it down, embrace it.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

I coped far better in the rain/mud last year than I ever thought I would.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

has anyone seen this?

http://www.clashfinder.org.uk/view.htm

it's quite spectacular.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the only hard and fast rule is "don't let it bother you". everyone else is in the same boat, stop making out like you're hard done by, and have some fun ffs. take wellies, even if weather forecast says SUN SUN SUN ALL DAY EVERY DAY. they're not that heavy, not that expensive, better to have and not need than to need and not have etc.

last year's mud was pretty lame as glasto mud goes.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

hmm, i guess i've had 3 muddy glastonburys, if you count last year.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

http://www.clashfinder.org.uk/view.htm

It is, though I was genuinely expecting it to have something to tracking appearances by former members of the Clash.

What was that 'Joe Strummer space' they had before? Was that a permananent thing?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Gills.
Also wellies.
Also booze/drukgz.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Got wellies & have just finished getting the drukgz (trying to talk about drukgz in the middle of an office is quite a challenge) together. Booze run tomorrow.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

I am picking up my tent and sleeping bag tonight. Getting VERY excited. Other essentials, such as the 'www' (wipes, wine and weed) on the weekend. OH BABY.

I'll be up there with my posse on the Wednesday, staking out the CANADIAN COMPOUND somewhere in high ground on Pennard's Hill. Pink (or anyone else considering coming up crazy-early), you are welcome to join Camp Canuck! We have a gazebo, tarp, chairs, and large Canadian flag... Where are you ILX massiv going to set up? C'mon, roll over to Pennard's hill!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

You are cleverly trying to disguise the fact that you have to roll UP a hill, and frankly sod that.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

People are so bloody lazy. No pain no gain!

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Pink (or anyone else considering coming up crazy-early), you are welcome to join Camp Canuck!
I am sorely tempted for sure Rob!! Is your mobile number still the same?

X-post

It is a hill to get up, but think of the fun rolling back down again!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Yup, same number. And I think I still have yours in my phone from last year! And, mysteriously, Ronan's...

Bonus of being up a hill: DRYER GROUND WHEN RAINING.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

Be positive Mr Bolton, THERE WILL BE NO RAIN!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

i think i need to buy some hiking boots sort of shoes

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

Be positive Mr Bolton, THERE WILL BE NO RAIN!

But metcheck now forecasts a tornado.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

No no, that was half an hour ago. Metcheck are now forecasting torrential rain in the north half of the site and a 42 degree heatwave in the south, except for the stone circle which will ice over.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Oh no.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

dig a hole, get in it.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

i predict a sunny glasto for this reason: my crew and i are going VERY prepared for rain - lots of weatherproof gear (got my combat boots for mud) and the giant gazebo/tarp combo so we have shelter. after all the effort hauling this shit to the site, it will surely be nice out.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Dudes: Vitalic is playing Hyde Park on the Saturday, unless he is FLYING IN in une helicoptre as they say in furrin, I doubt he is @ Lock tav?

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

fucking 808 State play Glastonbury for first time in over 10 years and i'm not there. why is this line-up so much better than last year's?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

BECAUSE THEY HEARD YOU WEREN'T COMING, obv ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

Vitalic can play early doors Hyde Park then fly in and pay 2am Lock Tavern. Easy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Vitalic can do anything. He's amazing.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to Hyde Park next Saturday if it's not sold out.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

rob, DO NOT SAY THAT!! you fate-tempter. now oh look there is no bus coming we have ages quick someone light a cigarette ohshit we are jinxed

emsk, Friday, 17 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

g-kit the other thing that makes is easy to take wellies is that you can stash your pre-mixed gin-vodka-moonshine cocktails in them. er, in bottles down each one, not just tipped into the wellies, obv.

emsk, Friday, 17 June 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

rain/mud tips: make sure you have sth to keep your head dry and your feet dry, and if poss your back dry. then you will be fine. take plastic bags for wearing on feet/sitting on (the worst thing abt wet festivals imo is the never being able to sit/lie down anywhere and therefore having to be on a constant mission), wet wipes and moisturiser (ok sounds poncy but whatevah - that mud will dry yr hands out like nothin else).

cider lollies aaaahhhh... sadly - and i dunno how eavis allows this - all the ice-cream vans at glastonbury always seem to be selling solely nestle, which means no ice-cream for me at glasto :( OH! no that's not true, there are the mega-frozen-yoghurts off of the yeo valley peeps for a quid a go. which pisses on a cider lolly for 1.50. yo yeo valley!

emsk, Friday, 17 June 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

last year's mud was NUTHIN', btw.

have been doing teh shoppin for vodkas and wineboxes and junk food today. yay!

emsk, Friday, 17 June 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

yeah if vitalic is playing hyde park that, to me anyway, makes it fairly certain he's playing the lock, the lock would have checked that out and booked him as a result of him being in the country anyhow.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 18 June 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

g-kit the other thing that makes is easy to take wellies is that you can stash your pre-mixed gin-vodka-moonshine cocktails in them. er, in bottles down each one, not just tipped into the wellies, obv.

arf. good point though. i'm getting HELLA EXCITED now.
and, not to be outdone by the female funky-welly brigade, i myself have GIRLS' WELLIES this year. plain green? pffff. never again. so, if it rains, that's how to spot me. boy in girls' wellies.

g-kit (g-kit), Saturday, 18 June 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

I have just bought:

An airbed that somehow folds up to about 25x10x4cm
A roll-up 15 litre water carrier
A mini battery-operated lantern
A sleeping-bag liner (can be used without bag in hot weather)
Some new shorts with a billion zip-up pockets
Some new lightweight trousers
A Kangol hat
A can of dry shampoo
More of that water-free anti-bacterial handwash
A pack of baby wipes
Other stuff

Bring it on.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 18 June 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

there are posters for the lock tavern at glasto all around old st, and they have VITALIC written on them in big letters. so i think it's a safe bet he's playing.

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

i've found my hiking boots. entirely mud covered, but they'll do fine.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

I'm off on a supply run now. Boots boots boots.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I'm still dithering. I've never liked the boots I had - a bit to cheap to start, I suppose - but would a new pair be broken in in time for Thursday?

h., Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

Also today I am going to make The Tape.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 19 June 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Sunday, 19 June 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

composing IN MY HEAD.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Sunday, 19 June 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

A sight to behold

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 June 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

I thought you were bringing it Alan.

I can try and get one off my mother-in-law tho but it may be too late.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 19 June 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Lidl are doing portable CD machines that play MP3 discs for like, £30 or something. I was quite tempted and then I wasn't.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

good man, can we use a pole from the old one to attach the scarf to?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Don't see why not, remind me via the usual channels on Wednesday tho.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Tell me of this scarf...

I have just given my tent a good clean. Its still a bit minging and I feel this will be the old dog's last adventure.

I've also just found out several friends of mine recently managed to get hold of tickets. I'm really quite excited now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 19 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

It is a Gurls Aloud scarf purchased at their concert.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 19 June 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

What will the neighbour(ing tent)s say?

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 19 June 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

It's mostly going to be used to mark our Perry Spot on the Thursday, so lurXoRs can say "Aha! A girls aloud scarf, you drunken old fools must be ILX, I will rethink my plan to introduce myself."

I shall be set up and sat on my arse drinking a can of kronenberg by midday.

We're not leaving until Thursday unfortunately, but it should be fine.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

Anytime before Friday’s ok, after that i can imagine it being a bit of a nightmare setting up.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Monday, 20 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

bah, i'm trying to find a decent picture of the girls aloud scarf so i can put it here, so that those of you who haven't met us can (if you want, obv ;)) join us in the now traditional thursday drinking perry by the brothers bar (actually it'll probably be helpful for those we have met, as it does tend to get a bit crowded round there...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 20 June 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

It is a long thin red scarf with the faces of gurls aloud on.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

I remember last year waking up Friday morning & there were so many more tents around us & it kept growing!
x-post
Whereabouts are you lot camping?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Whereabouts are you lot camping?

good question, pink!

ok, i think that andrew, toby and i have semi-volunteered to bagsy space for everyone, since we're all arriving at some point on wednesday night.

here are my questions:

who's going that wants to camp with ILX? so, how many tent's worth of space should we save?

what time are you lot arriving?

does anyone have a strong preference on where we camp, or is it up to us?

and do any of you have serious moral objections to us doing something wanky like roping off an area to save the space (is there an alternative?)

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 June 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)

i'm up for being part of an ILX-massiv campsite, but as i've mentioned, i have the Canadian Compound in tow. mind you, we will be up there quite early on wednesday, and should have a pretty good choice of where to set up, so if you guys are definitely aiming for a specific area, we can easily set up nearby. mind you, we are kinda keen on pennard's hill, since it is a spot that has been good to us in the past...

question: where is a good place to acquire some kind of long pole to put a flag on? anywhere in london sell bamboo? pool sweepers? i'm at a loss...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

do you have a knackered old tent that you could use the pole from?

colette i have moral objections to roping off space, mainly because it is wanky.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

Roping off = teh wanky and against the spirit of Glasto etc.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

I have a strong preference for the John Peel Tent field, as it's close to the entrance. And far away from the hippie bollocks. And fills up slowly (EG us getting places there on the Thursday the last two years). And provides a strong motivation to get out of bed before the cloth-eared indie starts. But I will abide by the decision of my peers.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

My current plan is:

get to site on thursday
ring rickyt
if space on pennards, then pennards
if no space on pennards, then new bands probably

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

I like Steve's plan.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Roping off = teh wanky and against the spirit of Glasto etc

Oops!, we need to do this so we can all camp together. It’s the only way we can guarantee being together.

It ain’t that bad is it?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

i think roping off is ok on weds but gets increasingly less ok as thurs wears on. when there's plenty of space around i don't think it's too unreasonable. then again, it's been 5 years since i last went up on a wednesday, so things may well have changed since then.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

if people are happy to camp on pennards with the canucks, we should have enough tents to spread out and not have to rope off, and then squeeze people in as they arrive. i think that's what happened at our site last year, and it seemed to work ok.

rob, were you there for that whole process? i arrived thursday night to a tent that was already pitched.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

a beautiful plan steve

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Please may we join your merry throng? It's just nicer to be camping near to ppl you've met before know. ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

haha someone has just sent me the packing list i sent them last year for their first glasto. wot a festival spod i am:

Subject: the LIST

here is my list... i don't THINK i've forgotten anything!

festival ticket
train tickets (+railcard if you have one)
tent
sleeping bag
sleeping mat
pillow if you can be arsed to carry it
blanket if you're a big wuss
big chunky (waterproof?) shoes/boots/wellies
summer shoes/trainers (flip flops/sandals are nice but not when yr in the middle of a heaving crowd)
anything waterproof you have - jacket/trousers/binbags
t-shirts/tops (as many as you plan to wear plus one spare)
socks (ditto)
pants (ditto)
jeans/some kind of trousers, x2 if you can carry them in case of rain
shorts/skirt
jumper (with hood if you have one)
something else warm (if it's cold you want lots of layers rather than one big thing)
woolly hat
sun hat
shades
water bottles
as many plastic bags as you can find in your house - these are for wearing as well as putting stuff in
umbrella
toilet roll
mobile phone
cash & cards
alarm clock?
deodorant
wet wipes
soap
toothpaste
toothbrush
towel
sun cream
tampons
moisturiser
earplugs?
aspirin/paracetamol
something to read
pens & paper
immodium if you really can't face the loos
hairbrush
hairtie
contact lenses + case + solution
glasses + case
torch + spare batteries (batteries are a total rip-off on site)
plasters
swiss army knife
fruit/nuts/crisps etc
alcomahol - you're allowed to bring your own booze to glastonbury, glass isn't allowed but if you're bringing anything in bottles shove them down inside your wellies in your bag and pack around them with clothes/plastic bags
stove? if yes then gas, tea, coffee, filk, cupasoup, a cup, lighter/matches, pan/s
if you smoke, cigarettes/tobacco/papers and a million lighters

this is quite a decent list actually. now i can add to it the crazyarsesupergeeky phone charging/radio/torch wind-up thing stevie gave me for my birfday last summer...

emsk, Monday, 20 June 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

that is a great list :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

is pennards hill the small bit right at the southmost point of the map between lost vagueness and uh something else, where you have to go past the tipi field to get there? if yes we def want to camp there - me an my crew are arriving castle cary 4.39 thurs - but saving space is probably more hassle than it's worth... roping off areas ugh ugh yes huge moral objections. one year i took a scythe and went around cutting them all. apart from the not-in-the-spirit part of it they are fucking LETHAL in the dark (yes even if they are glow-in-the-dark).

emsk, Monday, 20 June 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

thx steve! :)

emsk, Monday, 20 June 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

It's the southernmost part of the west side. South of the railway tracks, north west of the stone circle.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

colette's right - us wednesday people will be already starting a pretty big campsite(s) among us that shouldn't require roping/anti-voibe/buzz-harshing action. although since we are up there so early, i'm sure space around us will disappear sooner rather than later. unless, of course, the wider public are afriad of camping near canadians, which i can understand. we are kinda smelly.

re: poles (long sticks not eastern europeans) i did consider an old tent-pole as a flagpole, but thinking about the Science Of It, i figure the huge flag we have will blow it outwards (since it is all elasticky), and then pole will fall over limply.

y'all are welcome to txt/ring me when you arrive as well, if you need the 411 on space, etc. if you don't have my numba just email me.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 20 June 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Expect a phone call/text rob!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

I would much, much rather camp at Pennard's thingummy than by the New Band's tent. I'm happy to camp with the Canadians as well as I've met most of them and they are nice people. The bigger the camp the better.

Can people make sure they've got their phones on for about 4.30 on Friday? That's when, hopefully, I'll be hitting Glasto and I'll need to find you.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

Could you get someone to pitch your tent for you Matt?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

quite. have you got a plan to get your tent to me?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

WE SHALL MEET IN THE ANGEL IN ST GILES ON WEDNESDAY, I HAF DECREED IT!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

(giving up)

The New Bands Tent's other advantage is that it's really handy for everything: Pyramid Stage, Other Stage, Dance Tent, New Bands Tent, Cinema, Lock Tavern/Ticket To Wine/DJ Pikey Clothes Stall.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

Yes but it's not handy for the acoustic tent, circus field, sacred space, green fields etc. And frankly it's not THAT great for the food and booze markets out beyond the Other Stage either.

I have never camped anywhere but the New Bands tent and would do so again very happily. But I don't mind a bit of a plod if it means camping nearer more people I like - one of the great things about having a big camp last yr was being able to think "sod it, can't be arsed" at some particularly barren stretch of line up, and tramp back to the tent and usually find some company there.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

The food and booze thing is u+k. It takes BLUDDY AGES to get to the interesting food places from New Bands, whereas the Jazz/World field of tasty food is just a one field stroll from Pennards. The nice beer tent and the Brothers Bar are similarly much closer.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Yes, proximity to the Brothers Bar is urgent and no wait, hang on..

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Tom obviously completely OTM on the usefulness of a large gathering, hence I will do as the council decides.

Are you turning up early as well, Ricky? What are your plans?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

this is sounding like it will be up to me, toby, andrew, rob and a lot of wiley canadians to bagsy as much space as we can without being assholes about it, hopefully on pennards hill?

food is close to there, and perry as well.

does anyone object to this plan? is anyone else getting there earlier than the ilx coach? and when does ilx coach arrive?

p.s. i feel like my posts read like i'm anxious or something, i'm not. i'm actually hugely relaxed about it all, i just figure the more info we have, the better.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Judging by last year the main body of the ILX crew will be getting on site at about 3. We'll phone ahead though I'm sure.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

cool. rob, are you up for fending off advances of all the english people that want to take over our land? i think we're the right people to lead this mission.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

We should be there around 11ish (depending on the queues) on the Thursday morning.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

In terms of tents we have 7 (Alan, Mangus, Pete, Sarah, Steve, Me, Matt DC in absentia) - all fairly roomy 2-man jobs I think. Did I miss anyone?

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Everyone TOUCH WOOD as you read this (I type with wrists on desk) - Standard headline says TEN DAY HEATWAVE, wh000000

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

yeah, we won't do any roping-off or anything, but colette i'm sure we can occupy (within reason) enough space to accmodate new people who want to camp immediately in our space. although i'm guessing a large-size ILX camp group will likely have to find their own area on thursday in pennards (assuming there is room). so even if we're not camping right beside each other, we'll all be relatively close, which is cool.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Let me be the first to moan about the heat.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Achtung! Some rain forecast

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

cool,

i'm guessing we'll play it by ear, depending on how crowded it is when we arrive, but yeah, i figure we should be able to set up in a way that there's some dead space that we can move around, but other people can steal if they really want it...

i LOVE this weather. i think i'm glad i bought shorts now!

xpost-- boo!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

To the beer tent!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

In terms of tents we have 7 (Alan, Mangus, Pete, Sarah, Steve, Me, Matt DC in absentia)

Is there a Ktee as well?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

re: beer - will it be only shitty BUD on-site again this year?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

My list of things to get tonight = longer than I thought argh

Sleeping mat
New trainers (my current ones have holes and may become full of gribble, to be honest it's probablt time to spend that £20 on new converse you know)
BINBAGS
Crappy tops/skirt etc from H&M (I found VOUCHERS!)
Socks + pants (running low generally tbh)
Cheap hoody/jumper/cardy thing if can find, if not will get something there
FAMOUS GROUSE + water bottle innit (mmm hot chocolate stall)
Brolly (if can find a decent one)
Tissues
Deoderant wipes
Lady's things
Suncream
TORCH

xpost: Ktee camping w/ Aubrey/his sister/silver springs people somewhere, dunno where they are planning yet

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to get a sleeping mat onsite again, and probably discard it again too. They're just too unwieldy.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

god I'm excited just reading this thread. and I'm not even going!

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

(SO JEALOUS)

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Weatherwise it sounds like it'll be similar to last year but

- much less rain overall
- with a dry lead-up so it won't be so muddy

I can cope with that.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Ste it would be cool if you could have come along! I was chatting to a guy at work who has a ticket & said that he wasn't sure whether he was going to go. Surely that's just rude to all of those ppl who couldn't get a ticket this year! haha

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Tom: apparently mats more expensive on site? I might ditch mine there as well. Apparently there is a place on the rucksack Rick leant me which I can attach the sleeping mat to rather than faffing about with it otherwise. Will be bringing one big rucksack and the same canvas army bag I had last year too for carrying around general stuff with.

Rob: ?? There was other beer apart from Bud, specifically O'ER! NUM NUM

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

FAMOUS GROUSE + water bottle innit (mmm hot chocolate stall)

ooh good call , i'd forgotten about that.

there was loads of other beer, surely? or are you saying that bud was the only lager or some nonsense like that?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

They're only a fiver or so, so it's still not bank-breaking. I need that bit of my rucksack to carry my dad-armchair.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

pink, yeah that's just wrong. i blame my mates this year (again) for me not going. the couple i was going with had a row the weekend the tickets were on sale, a BIG row. and i thought it just wasn't happening. so neither of us got tickets.

if i'd have known it was going to be this ilx-cosy this year i would've got my own ticket, maybe.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

btw is jamie lidell actually playing?! and if so then where/when?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

pink, yeah that's just wrong. i blame my mates this year (again) for me not going. the couple i was going with had a row the weekend the tickets were on sale, a BIG row. and i thought it just wasn't happening. so neither of us got tickets.

if i'd have known it was going to be this ilx-cosy this year i would've got my own ticket, maybe.
Aww yeah that just sucks!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Dad chair! Marv! Tom, are you sure they will just be a fiver? As if so I will just get one there too - no need to carry more than you really have to innit.

Jamie Liddell - I thought he was a definite but can't remember where, I only really ever look at the lineup once I'm there :) I am up for a bit of that, obv.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

yes, toby, i mean LAGER. a lot of us foriegners can't handle your wacky english ales and bitters!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

They were a fiver last year! I think we both bought one in fact.

I don't mind bud.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

No, I already had one last year, I'm pretty sure I remember my late doors trip to Blacks. I will get one with you "on site" then, I am sure they were cheap also!

The lager might be Bud, better Bud than CARLING EMPIRE MACHT FREI, innit. I will be sticking to whatever the bitter is :)

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

starry you can get 'em for less than a fiver, i would feel v ripped off if i paid more than £3 for one. i got my one 2 years ago at glasto for £2 - don't go to the black's/millet's stall, go to the luminous crackpipe/camping gear/nonsensica stalls and they will be more cheaper.

emsk, Monday, 20 June 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Ahh, the civilization shop.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I will do that, I am sure I will come across something on a perry addled wander round the site. Cheers emsk - I just wanted to be reassured this was the case! Excellent, shall cross one OFF THE LIST.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

can someone please remind me where to find PERRY?

oh also, i now have ALL STAGE TIMES at my disposal!

requests to the usual address, but be warned, the whole shebang is about 2mg.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

one last bump - i'm able to forward full line-ups until 11pm tonight.

after that, you'll have to wait til you get there, although mr dastoor should have received his copies by now so perhaps you could ask him...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

ta Charlie.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

sorry nick, hope i haven't precipitated a mass of requests arriving in your inbox...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

I mentioned it on one of the other threads, but my friends' band, Youngblood Brass Band, is playing at this festival and they're worth seeing. I believe it's sometime Sunday at the jazz stage.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh no - that's fine. Suddenly realised 'ta Charlie' might look sarcastic. Genuine ta. Is it alright to put the files up webspace rather than send them via email?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

"up on webspace" that should read. If not I'll just forward them en masse tomorrow afternoon to anyone who's emailed me by then (say 3.30pm)

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Charlie the Perry is at the Brothers Bar to the left of the Jazz stage.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 20 June 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Ummm, you mean stick them somewhere totally public? Not sure. Perhaps best not - don't want to incur any undue wrath. Perhaps I should send them to the clashfinder chap though...

Ah, thanks Tom. And when will y'all be there? Just in case I'm awake?

ps. am I right in saying there's no Stevem this year?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 20 June 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

OK, no uploading to webspace. Email me if you want them and I'll send at about 3.30pm tomorrow.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 June 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Yes, no me. I know it'll be hard but I'm sure you'll all cope and manage to have THE BEST GLASTONBURY EVAH somehow.

Where can I get a sleeping bag and tent pegs in Central London?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

i said stella as that was the plan at the time, but the kronenberg were on special offer in asda.

no lie, just change of plan.

plus it's better than stella.

*frying pan* ?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

oh god, i'm so hungover. this is going to be such a toxic week.

andrew, toby and i hadn't entered your number into our phones yet, so when you texted, i was all suspicious of the international code, and thinking 'hmm, maybe it gets you to reply and it's like a premium-rate text scam' or something.' we figured out it was you by googling the number and working out the dialling code. duh. i guess i'm still a little drunk as well as hungover.

xpost-- matt, where are you? if you're in islington, there's a camping/army store in chapel market. there's a blacks and snow+rock at the bottom of grey's inn road nand holborn. there's apparently something in covent garden, but i can't remember what.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

How central's central, Matt? There's a Blacks on High Holborn, just by Chancery Lane tube, which IIRC is convenient for you.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

it's a trek and field in cov gdn, on long acre. i may be popping by myself later..

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

*frying pan*

um, everytime somebody says "you lied to me!" all i can think of is Danny Devito hitting Billy Crystal in the face with a frying pan.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

is that from "throw mama from the train"?

it coitainly is.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

we figured out it was you by googling the number and working out the dialling code

(frantically checks that googling my actual mobile number produces no results)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

By the way, I lost my phone at the weekend and am still trying to get numbers for my new one - can people who know me and have my number please text me to let me know who you are, if you haven't already?

(I'm in Islington, so will be visiting Chapel Market after work. Yay!)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

well, it was attached to some animal pron website...

(no,couldn't find your actual number but the country code was enough to clue us in)

xpost- good luck matt! don't know what/how much they carry, but that's where i got my waterproofs. might be worth ringing to see if they have sleeping bags, in case you need to go to blacks or something.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

should this rain materialize, i will be recognizable by my aggressively flourescent greenish-yellow nylon windcheater. if the rain doesn't happen, i'll be using it as a signal flare.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

I think I always camp at Pennards Hill, so bump into you guys there if not at the Brothers first. I'll probably get there early.

Also as I think was the case last year, on the 2004 thread, I am now in a state of absolute TERROR. for no reason.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

don't know if anyone else has been looking around the clashfinder site, but they have a very neat 1-page guide, if you're eyesight's up to it:

http://www.clashfinder.org.uk/small.pdf

much more sensible than the guardian mini-guide thing.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

ugh your eyesight, that is.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

haha, i haf just printed it out and intend to spend all day (in the office looking at it and thinking "oh no chas and dave vs futureheads, what a choice!!!"

of course it's not official official timing, but then again the graun guide is always out of date by friday afternoon as well...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

Having spent the best part of an evening cleaning my tent I'm very very glad I chose to wash my wellies last year by walking through a fountain in Roskilde.

I have a backpack. I am now officially sorted. Apart from my ticket.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

this thread needs more excitment! i am now very very excited, only a few hours to go...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

I am feeling old. People at my work seem shocked and horrored that I am going down.

Oh, and if you want food, may I suggested the Palestine/Israel food tent in the Jazz World field. Get food from the palestine side, one of my employees who is a great cook is doing the food there. Mention my name and you'll get a free fork.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm sort of terrified that I've forgotten something, or that they won't accept passports (though there'll be rioting if they try that, surely).

PS: Toby, could you and/or Colette text me, to make sure that that works. Or just tell me that you've texted international numbers previously.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

i have, yeah, but i'll go and text again in a minute (phone is next door charging).

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

so where's your ticket matt?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Hooray, text recieved.

I only put up my new light tent, borrowed from a friend, yesterday. It works and all, but I didn't realise it was one of those "bend pole into a curve, and insert both ends into tent. Congraulations, you are fit to wed Penelope!" businesses.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

i'm excited. have fun you lot!

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

we're off! see you all tomorrow.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Hi Dere!

I am still in Dublin, for reasons too fuckheaded to relate. Colette and Toby have arrived, and are pitching up by New Bands Tent. However they don't have numbers for anyone coming down tomorrow, and I think I only have Pete's. I have a number for Starry, but it doesn't seem to work, I understand Tom is getting a new phone, and I've never had a number for Steve/Matt.

So I'm mailing my number and Toby&Colette's numbers to the four people I've just mentioned, so check your email and text one of us your number.

I should be getting there around 4 (in theory).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

pennards update: spoke to charlie no 4 about an hour ago and apparently it's chocka - space for individual tents now, not for groups, and prob that will be gone by tomorrow too...

emsk, Wednesday, 22 June 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Right now the WORD on the STREET is that the SOAS sound system is rigged up on a pikey food stall at Glasto. Without Pete's knowledge. Therefore GLASTO POPTIMISM IS GO! Oh the fear.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 23 June 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

I think Toby sent me a txt so I sent him Carsmile's no.

we're back!

actually, we got back about 5:30 this morning, but i'm now awake enough to post, kind of. i highly reccomend driving out in the middle of the night, we were off the site within about 20 mins and the roads were clear the whole way there.

the rain thing was weird. there was a huge lake at the bottom of the hill from where we were, and ricky t apparently had some water adventures (not the wetting himself kind, as far as i know), but i had no idea how bad it was until isaw pictures of people chest-deep in water. mental.

bands were pretty ok as well. and i'm totally totally sunburned/tan.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, bring on roskilde 2006!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

welcome 'ome. how did you stay awake at the wheel? this was a huge problem for my driver in '02 after we left at 4am.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

I saw a bit of Brian Wilson on telly last night - the worst thing about the performance was, errrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Brian Wilson! Surely the time has come to let Brian go back to bed and hire somebody who can still sing to front the band - I suggest Mike Love.

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

clor (in the guardian tent) and new order were my favourites. seeing the latter with alba was great, as it was his first live experience with them.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

i am totally envious now

lauren, did you see ronan? mdc, hayley & kelly? who was the most fucked up?

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

i saw carsmile very briefly, and ronan and his lovely ladyfriend and alba. for whatever reason, things were fairly sober when i was around (probably because i have totally settled into premature middle age).

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 27 June 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

I am back and unclean. It was great, apart from being camped about three metres away from the raging torrent that appeared out of nowhere on Friday morning.

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 27 June 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 27 June 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

why were the police denying any tents had been washed away when there were photos of washed away tents all over the papers and interweb? i don't get it. it's not the police's fault it rained. is it just second-nature to deny everything now?

emsk, Monday, 27 June 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I'm back and bathed. Mmmm. I liked Seeed a lot! Relatively restrained compared to last year but I enjoyed myself more, on the whole it was classik and the Friday morning thing was at least interesting.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

That was without a doubt my heaviest Glastonbury ever, also one of the best. I'm kind of surprised I managed to get through it without really feeling like shit at any stage.

Weatherwise = worse than last year, not as bad as 1998 by a long way. Maybe this is because by getting down on Friday afternoon I somehow MISSED EVERY SINGLE DROP OF RAIN but also because the latter half of the weekend was pretty scorching and with the exception of the Other Stage and the lake down the bottom of our field you could sit down pretty much anywhere onsite by Sunday. Even the top bit of the Pyramid was pretty decent.

Am I right in thinking there was no Sunday night tape player horror? I went in search of the voibe and missed the whole thing. Proper highlights to follow after my second shower.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

i realized that i don't like standing around in fields with thousands of random people very much.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

We played a tape pretty much every night Matt but it was more like relaxed campfire singalongs rather than the hands-in-the-air poptimist mentalism of '03 and '04. Though the Jeff Wayne conga on Thursday night came close.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Sitting on the top bit of the Pyramid? Ouchie.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Actually what am I saying I have forgotten a bestially drunk Pete Baran singing along to "The Impossible Dream" by Carter. Still our neighbours got their revenge when they beat a tambourine incessantly through LCD Soundsystem.

xpost Stevem please don't joke about things like that.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

If I think of one moment that encapsulates this festival for me, its walking with Ronan at about 5.30am past a stall near the Lost Vagueness field in a state of extreme upness, hearing a goth version of You Spin Me Round and and just dancing and singing with six or seven complete strangers. Then it kicking straight in to Don't Stop Me Now by Queen and everyone going flailing-limb-ridiculous-pose mental for four minutes. I'll never be able to hear that song again without thinking of it. I think me might have all gone into a group hug at the end, I can't remember.

Other things that made me happy this weeked:

- Basement Jaxx's cover of Can't Get Me Out Of Your Head, and seeing thousands of people singing along to the slow bit. Not enough stuff off Kish Kash but otherwise brilliant - especially that bass-heavy electro thing with the Ace Of Spades riff.

- The diner in the Lost Vagueness field. Ronan and I ended up there about 7.00 on Sunday morning when it was full on Proper Disco and full of drag queens and men in tuxes and wellies. Even better was on Sunday night after all the bands had finished and my friends and I were dancing in there to DJ Motown Greatest Hits. Buzz harshed when Bobby Gillespie and Mani came in and Bobby G proceded to lurch around unfortably right next to me while occasionally mauling some poor thing that I presume was his girlfriend. But still, it provided that big hands-in-the-air singalong you need on a Sunday night. There needs to be more Jackson 5 at Glasto.

- New Order's entire set, even allowing for a disappointing Bizarre Love Triangle, no Blue Monday it was worth it for those house pianos at the beginning of True Faith. And Keith Allen on a pantomime horse, doing the John Barnes rap in World In Motion.

- Primal Scream being booed off the stage. I've never seen anything like it. Bobby Gillepsie absolutely fucked out of his face, his band having just played a set of such spectacular shitness to a very small crowd for second on the bill on Sunday, slurring “who do you want, Primal Scream of Basement Jaxx?” “BASEMENT JAXX!” went the shout, and Bobby was escorted offstage by security while people booed. Hilarious.

- The bit during MIA’s set when Sweet Dreams dropped into Ten Dollar. I was still sober, a bit knackered after work and put off by all the water. RickyT and I got very excited, that set me up perfectly for everything.

- Erol’s set in the frankly rammed Lock Tavern, finding Alba right near the end and hearing Its My Life by Talk Talk and then that beefed up version of Teenage Kicks right at the end.

- Mylo in the East Dance Tent on Sunday night - so much better than last year, a bigger sound, loads of tunes stretched out and one great new italo-disco ripoff. When he played Drop The Pressure at the end of the night I had a complete stranger attempting to take my shirt off. In the end I let her succeed, if only because there was actually steam coming out of the end. I promise, never again.

- The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain doing Smells Like Teen Spirit. And Wuthering Heights. And a ukelele mashup of Spiders From Mars with My Way. Actually much more enjoyable than the novelty joke I’d been expecting and way better than Hayseed Dixie.

- Small children running in to attack men dressed as ninjas. And the ninjas playfighting back.

- And the Chemical Brothers dropping Carousel by Koenig Cylinders into their surprisingly good DJ set and going mental. And to think I only stuck around because Ronan and his girlfriend were taking the piss out of me for considering going to see the White Stripes.

Actually, looking at that all written down, it was fucking brilliant, even without Vitalic. And going to see Wiley to be confronted with Thai ska horror. I can’t believe its a full two years til the next one.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 27 June 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

And Keith Allen on a pantomime horse, doing the John Barnes rap in World In Motion.

Ha ha, this looked so rubbish on telly.

BWicked Glastonbury!

Music-wise nothing really blew me away this year but the overall atmosphere was a lot better than last.

The weather tried to make us as miserable as possible but it was just a case of accepting the mud and lack of wellies and hoping that the hare krishnas would step in in the event of trenchfoot.

Nice to be home and recovering, having just turned the bath water a nice shade of brown.

Time to start watching several hours of bbc highlights of everything that i missed...

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Monday, 27 June 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

P.s. Did anyone catch Bright Eyes in the John Peel tent last night and find him utterly repulsive?

Musically he was really frickin dull, clearly battered and evidently did not want to be there. Ripping the shit out of the Make Poverty History campaign is fair enough but there's no need to bang on about and as for insulting John Peel... what a wanker.

Stupid question but why does emo have to be so.. Umm….. emotional?

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Ha no what was he saying? We were watching Seeed running Glastonbury's first ever Dancehall Queen competition.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 27 June 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

the peel worship did get a bit grating i must admit. even 2manydjs started with fucking teenage kicks.

which was nice.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 27 June 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

The Go! Team played Bottle Rocket TWICE. Once with knackered sound though. I thought they were great, but was very drunk.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

matt, irony there.

bah i think everyone's mentioned my favourite bits, Mitch Benn's John Peel song was the best tribute of the weekend i thought.

Ricky, today:

http://www.wilson203.freeserve.co.uk/Auton.jpg

Oh yeah, I realised on Friday, while waiting for Steve Earle, that I had no way of contacting Lauren (phone gyp was the theme of the weekend for me) and had only previously met her once in poor light. So that meeting didn't happen, sorry.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Actually they played Bottle Rocket 3 times. In the end the "faked" sound problem was the best solution to filling an hour long set with a 35 minute album.

Swami Desi Rock was easily the highlight for me, Friday night playing to about thirty people had more energy than everyone on the Peel Stage put together.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

i got dragged to see willy "i suck beyond belief" mason instead of steve earle. total dud.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

Aw, that's a shame. It was a good show, though some mike problems meant that I didn't hear come of the words that well. Two of the dumbest bastards in creation brought out the Confederate flag. "Now, you have every right to fly that flag, but it you brought it out for me, roll that fucker up".

He played again on the Sunday, in the Leftfield while everyone was at the Brian Wilson Experience.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

Seeed had an auton playing guitar.

Swami Desi Rock was great yes.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

i should have been more firm about the steve earle thing. i saw him at roskilde a few years ago, and it was a wonderful show. my friend and i both cried during billy austin.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

i caught the end of steve earle whilst waiting for billy bragg, and y'know you don't really want to hear songs about death row when you are trying to eat your tartiflette... also his between song banter made billy bragg seem like he was only pausing to say "thanks"...

got back this morning, lots of great stuff, clor were great, I watched them and enjoyed it and then proceeded to think about the set for the rest of the day.

think I probably saw more really good stuff than any other glastonbury. mylo, erol, clor, lcd soundsystem, mia, new order, brian wilson were all really really top standard. probably forgetting some stuff too.

great to see everyone again! it was probably my mildest glasto, though Saturday was a bit crazy, the calming influence of lindsay is to responsible for that I suppose.

I've had this ridiculous sense of wellbeing all day, like I didn't realise how good the whole weekend was until right near the end - probably the moment in the early hours of Monday morning when I was dancing to the original version of Tainted Love like it was the most euphoric house record ever.

The last couple of Glastonburys have hit this amazing peak on Sunday night - last year with DJ Pikey Clothing Stall - Orbital - legendary tape deck mentalism, this year with Basement Jaxx - rammed Motown disco. I can't even remember the end of Glasto 2002, and I'm not sure that was for the right reasons. (Oh yeah, it was watching the Doves in a downpour - not quite the same).

been to every one since 93 and no this wasn't the worst weather (still 98 no matter what anyone says) and yeah this was one of the best. top 2 or 3 ever. erol = hero, ditto fatboy oddly enough for saving friday night in insane old school proper-dance-party fashion.

boaby won't be coming back i'd guess then?

Doves played Sunday night in 02? I remember them playing on the Friday afternoon in perfect sunshine.

I will admit now to liking the track that Fatboy Slim played on Friday night that samples Sister Nancy (agane).

i heard a song at 7am sunday morning round the campfire in lost vagueness that made everyone stand up and dance, it was great, and it turned out to be fatboy slim! something about long haired freaky people. it was really nice!

My favourite was the male stripper in a go go bar.
