s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

metal assembly (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

matlewis, Friday, 10 June 2005 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I KNEW this would be s1ocki.

the D Double signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That's either a switchblade or a frog in his pocket. Either way, I'd watch myself.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

You should shoot them a communique via markerboard!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

You could pelt them with rolled up copies of Entertainment Weekly!

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki at home or at the studio??

jones (actual), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were you, s1ocki, I would report them to a truant officer, if not to Miss Crabtree herself.

k/l (Ken L), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

studes!! haha that would be funny if they were living on the roof of the yeshiva though

(xp)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Get them jobs as Newsies!

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

once i was walking down an alleyway not far from here at night with a friend & we were gabbin' loudly & all of the sudden i hear a "SHHH!! people are sleeping here!!" from a low rooftop! it was another case of punks living on a rooftop!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

tv show idea: continuing saga of "roof" punks vs. "alley" punks

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Are punks solar powered?

Huk-L, Friday, 10 June 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

jw (allocryptic), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

when i first came thru mtl i made the rooftop scene for a bit but i looked more like a soc than a punk

jones (actual), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a low, crappy building housing a cheapo computer store. they have big cheap signs outside.

last year they had a sign painted on the car outside that said "LABTOPS - $300!"

the next day it was corrected with a sharpie.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

jones (actual), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It's funny to read the thread title thinking that s1ocki means "punks" in the Clint Eastwood sense.

the D Double signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 10 June 2005 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

they're jewish too! that's why they HATE it when you fling ham at them.

jewish punks. rotten semitic no-good rascals.

this thread is nuts - i was on the way to work yesterday and the police were trying to evict some squatters from a warehouse. they had fled to the roof and were raining tiles and bits of guttering at them, were also having a great time doing it from what i could see, too. they were punx, too!

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 10 June 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

To answer a few of your mindless ramblings...obviously I am not one of you because, like I said before, I am punk (and now you've convinced me that some of you aren't,) being punk is exactly what I'm doing right now, my own thing and not giving a fuck what anyone thinks, I'm just having fun using you all as a vehicle to my rise to fame, (you should see the news down here, me and my band are all over it, but don't be mad, I'll mention your names at the bottom of my first album's reckognition note, at the very bottom!) And what's wrong with being from the streets? I am and not ashamed of it. My parents were drunk and fucked up and living in a station wagon when my mother's water broke. I lived in that fucking rusting piece of crap until I was five or six and my parents brought my two younger brothers into this bird shit ball of rock. I was beyond white trash. My life story is so crazy, anytime I tell it to a therapist, they gotta go see therapists, and believe what you want, but I ain't fucking shitting you. I'm using this as a self promotional tool, but nothing I've said has been falsified, it's all fucking true. I was taken from my parents and put through fifty foster homes in two years (the equivelant of a different family every two weeks,) and my two brothers and I were put up for adoption when I was thirteen like slaves waiting on the auction block. Then I failed the Marine Corps after barely passing high school and the rest will soon be history. So hopefully some of you buggers can see where some of my narcistic opinions and hostility comes from. I don't understand what there is to rebel against if you come from a rich, or medium class family where you have everything handed to you and have absolutely nothing to worry about, or maybe some of you can SCHOOL my WHITE TRASH ass! None of you have been able to do that yet, and to top things off, I ain't going nowhere but to the top, I'm here to stay bitches. I'm going to bed now, I gotta leave the shelter early in the morning and raise some more hell out in the streets. I'll see you all in your dreams!

http://www.fvdes.com/secondary/porro/English10/documents/MakeParagrWork.htm

Making Paragraphs Work

Paragraphs are strange things. They only exist in writing (nobody talks in paragraph form). But they are very important. Good paragraphing can make all the difference between a reader being able to understand exactly what you are saying and a reader being so overwhelmed and confused that he or she puts your essay down and walks away.

What is a paragraph?

A paragraph is a group of sentences that work together to make a single point. A single point. Every sentence, phrase, and word in a paragraph should help explain, develop, or illustrate that main point. If it doesn't, get rid of it.

[...]

How can I make my paragraphs more coherent?

To cohere is to stick together. So making your paragraphs cohere means making all the parts (sentences) stick together. One way to do this is to use transitional phrases or words to show the connection between elements of your sentences. I have just used two transitional phrases in this paragraph: "so" and "one way to do this." Those phrases make the connections between the sentences clearer. Other examples of transitional phrases or words are "also," "but," "finally," "and," "meanwhile," and "however."

kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
so much has happened.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 18 July 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

first, they vanished for a few days when workers appeared on the roof to replace some aluminum siding stuff. but they weren't gone!! they've re-appeared and they've built a little shack for themselves up there!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 18 July 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

wow.
i missed this thread
thanks for the update

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 18 July 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

they need that fucking shack, let me tell you. it's a fucking SCORCHER!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 18 July 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

I hope the shack isn't made out of aluminum siding leftovers, and doesn't have a door, which would make it pretty much an oven. I am a little worried about those punks on a roof in this heat. Ah, punks.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 18 July 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

what are they wearing?

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 18 July 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

the shack is largely made of cardboard.

and the last one i saw was wearing... NOTHING!

matlewis (matlewis), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

they looked around with stern expressions on their faces and then left; i don't think any of the primary punks were up there at the time. perhaps building a house was going too far!! we will see what happens...

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 21 July 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

there are workers with drills on the roof and the punk shantyhouse is gone :( :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

the punk house survived for over a week after the cop visit but i didn't really spot them any more... either they had left or they were keeping a low profile (very low, as you can only really see them from where i am, not from the street at all). and now, this.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

they're also working on the adjacent building, which is one story higher (must have the same owner)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

how sad! no more punks!

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

they will live on, i'm sure, on a rooftop or in a trainyard or under a makeshift lean-to somewhere!! they can not be stopped!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

giboyeux (skowly), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Oh, punks, where have you gone?
I am moving to Mile End in Sept, close to the railway tracks, so I will do my part and keep an eye out for punkist dwelling activity. But will try to avert my eye from peeing workers.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

omg, Mark, wow. It's funny how rooftops can seem so private when you're on them, yet really, unless you're high up, a lot of people will see you. It's one of those non-space space things.

s1ocki: To St. Laurent & Bernard (all the way from Little Burgundy/St. Henri, so it's a bit of a change, but one I'm looking forward to. And I get to live by myself (cheap rent!) - hurrah!) I'm guessing you live around them parts? I have a feeling my social life may get busier after the move, but then again, I have a thesis to finish, so I may just become a shut in! haha, ha...

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

surely there are no punks in ME!

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

i live at jeanne-mance & st-viateur (that's not where i am now).

VERY NICE NEIGHBOURHOOD.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

haha, dahlin re: ME! This made me reread that as S1ocki being full of neighbourhoods, some with punks, some without, and one of which I will be living in. S1ocki is welcoming and spacious, family-friendly and accessible, with many quaint cafes and inexpensive eateries. haha. Mile End *is* quite nice, and, yeah, prob not too many punks on rooftops...

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

...but you never know!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

oh. i assumed MAINE. silly me. ME.

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

It's all entertainment, the acronym mixup.
Every time I see this thread I say/growl/yell:
PUNKS! ON! ROOFTOPS!!!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

bah i thought you meant LONDON mile end (nb not london, ontario)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

haha, if I was moving to London Mile End, Carsmile, you would know, everyone would know. I'd be all "I'm moving to London!! Fix me up a Welcome to London FAP, Sinister picnic, indie dance nite, drinking-on-the-beach day in Brighton, bowling, karaoke, etc, etc." Yeah. But I'm pretty excited about the intra-Montreal move anyway.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

THEY'RE BACK!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 4 August 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

slocki, I'm moving to MTL this fall (big ups to Mssr. Jay Watts III for help). Tell everyone not to panic, but that they should still take necessary precautions ok? Murdaaaa

LeCoq (LeCoq), Friday, 5 August 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

i know a nice rooftop if you're looking for a place!!

when are you moving?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Wow, LeCoq is moving to Mtl! That's cool. I don't know if Mtl is prepared for your wisdom (seriously!). mmmrrr, I have nothing funny/interesting to say as I'm only mildly drunk and tired from dancing and being bluddy grinded against by guys named Mario. Why do people still grind?! It's like the primordial dance move (nb. I use those last three words quite loosely.) It is my own fault for entering the "hip-hop" room (and finding it way more fun than the house/electro room). Oh yeah: PUNKS! ON! ROOFTOPS! NAKED!!!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 5 August 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

where'd you go dancing rrobyn?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

i want to see naked punks. :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 15 June 2006 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 15 June 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 15 June 2006 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

I lived on a rooftop in Bangkok for three years. It is a good life up on the roof.

After I left my friend moved in, then after him, another friend of ours, now a girl from Singapore we know lives there. You can't hand rooftops on to just anyone, you have to trust them.

Paul Kelly (kelly), Friday, 16 June 2006 07:13 (nineteen years ago)

This threaad is so beautiful I think it's going to get bookmarked. The highlight:

doesn't the computer store know about this? punks can't be good for business

-- caitlin oh no (caitx...), June 12th, 2005.

unless they're........ CYBERPUNKS!!!

-- s1ocki (slytus...), June 12th, 2005.

Seriously, that made my morning. Thx guyz :) :)

four years pass...

some urban farming craft bozos were keeping one or more beehives on the rooftop down the street. today a beehive sits abandoned on the sidewalk outside, bees buzzing about in encouragingly languid and nonthreatening circles. "punks," i thought.

bucyrus ohio, vus cun nus en l’aria (Doctor Casino), Monday, 23 May 2016 17:14 (ten years ago)

oh btw the building that was home to the beehive is a loft that's been converted into 'luxury' places. the building the beehive was left in front of is a residential facility providing "long term transitional housing and on-site support services to 40 adults with psychiatric disabilities and a history of homelessness." privilege, ladies and gentlemen.

ugh wtf

Οὖτις, Monday, 23 May 2016 19:10 (ten years ago)

I mean the bees aren't gonna do anything/hurt anybody... unless someone tries to move it

Οὖτις, Monday, 23 May 2016 19:10 (ten years ago)

i've passed along some numbers for beekeeping associations in the area so hopefully a safe removal can be accomplished. also hopeful that the neighborhood's various security cameras caught the schmucks that did this, they deserve to be on the cover of the daily news with a mocking headline e.g. "HIVE BEEN A BAD BOY"

bucyrus ohio, vus cun nus en l’aria (Doctor Casino), Monday, 23 May 2016 19:17 (ten years ago)

follow the honey

“bad” mothers, rebel mamas, and other radical/transgressive moms (nakhchivan), Monday, 23 May 2016 19:18 (ten years ago)

one of their flatmates probably has a histamine allergy, can't believe you're all being so heartless to these bearded innovators

And the cry rang out all o'er the town / Good Heavens! Tay is down (imago), Monday, 23 May 2016 20:12 (ten years ago)

the cops cordoned off the area and i just saw the beehive loaded into the back of a car by someone in a beekepers' suit and gauntlets, with lots of boxes/canisters of something, labeled "BEE." we were told that it would be taken to one of the area botanical gardens or something like that. the neighborhood in general seemed pretty entertained aside from the backed-up through traffic.

bucyrus ohio, vus cun nus en l’aria (Doctor Casino), Monday, 23 May 2016 20:41 (ten years ago)

wish i'd had a beehive rather than a sinkhole now

my road's going to be closed for like another month

And the cry rang out all o'er the town / Good Heavens! Tay is down (imago), Monday, 23 May 2016 20:43 (ten years ago)

is it possible someone else in the posh flats didnt like the beehive being there and stole it and put it out to trash?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 23 May 2016 22:51 (ten years ago)

bees would've swarmed if that happened, most likely

Οὖτις, Monday, 23 May 2016 22:52 (ten years ago)

if you move the queen while a substantial portion of the hive is out foraging, they freak out

Οὖτις, Monday, 23 May 2016 22:53 (ten years ago)

That'd show those little SOBs

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 23 May 2016 22:56 (ten years ago)

I see what you did there.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 24 May 2016 00:54 (ten years ago)

well okay but 1) a random stretch of the sidewalk is not the trash 2) especially when what youre handling is basically a booby trap or biohazard that at the least creates a huge hassle for strangers wherever you leave it and 3) they didn't leave it in front of their own building but in front of the neighbors. whoever did it, they're scum

bucyrus ohio, vus cun nus en l’aria (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 24 May 2016 02:31 (ten years ago)
