at one point J0hn was saying between songs "This next one is a bit of a quiet one, so, you know, if the people next to you want to be able to hear, and you're talking loudly to each other... I know, I know, you paid to get in, you can do whatever the fuck you want!"

bloke did not, of course, hear this banter because he was talking louder than J0hn. (nb: he was frequently talking louder than J0hn even when J0hn was singing and playing an amplified guitar to a 500-strong crowd.) people went and asked him to be quiet (like, walked over from ten feet away) at least every second song.

I very intelligently have a hair salon appointment after work, and have left my ATM *and* my visa card at home havent I? *gah*.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 September 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

Sweep the floors til you repay your debt to society...and the salon.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 September 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

How much is a haircut these days?

$8?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

It is where I get mine cut :)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

i pay $15 but i get a beer with it

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

Last time I got my hair cut I got a $350 photoshoot out of it, so they were effectively paying me :)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Jesus, I'm not telling you lot how much my hairdo's cost, now ;P

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

Tho mind you, I'm talking the cost for a wash, treatment, cut and 2-colour dye job.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

It usually takes 2 hours.

The salon is the one wot does the fake pnyfalls for that chicky in Neighbours. They do a damn good job, I cant get the colour they produce with any home dyes.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

I pay $15 as well. I've moved upmarket. I used to only pay $7. I just bought a wireless network card. Hooray, except the girl who sold it to me was wearing a name badge that said "Neo" on it. Blud oath.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 15 September 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

*mumble* I pay $130 *mumble*

But i only go to a salon once every six months or so.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Six months! That's frequent!

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

i pay $70. but that doesn't include colour. and i go every 3-4 months or i start to look like triangle-lady

gem (trisk), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

We get loaded at band rehearsal, and every couple of months a friend cuts mine into a mullet in the bathtub.

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

i've always wished i was a bit more adventurous on the hair front and let people randomly cut my hair when they're boozed. but i'm very lazy and couldn't be arsed 'doing' it every day. plus i think it looks stupid short. so i've had the same haircut for years.

gem (trisk), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

I have the kind of hair that has to go to a good salon unfortunately - its fine, broken, shitty and going very very grey. I have to get a very well done cut, or it goes to shit the moment I wash it (and even then, it does anyway). I cant use cheap supermarket shampoo or my hair turns into static-filled split ended frizz city. I HATE MY HAIR.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

It's typical, I suppose. I have very strong, thick hair, and I'm waiting for the day I go bald so I don't have to do anything with it as IT IS TOO MUCH BLOODY HASSLE.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

bah hair is stupid. mine is very thick and coarse, like a horse's tail only curly. i don't think i'll go bald. i am going grey though.

gem (trisk), Friday, 16 September 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

yay my second recording assignment is official. time to go buy more mics.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 16 September 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

yes Gaz I know re: Reynolds discs! I would have copied them and posted them but I'm still working through all the MP3s you brought as well, sifting and re-listening and deciding what gets to go onto the pod for long-term access, and haven't even listened to the audio ones yet. :(

Abercrombie from about 4 should be okay for me, beer garden if it's sunny? if it's wet you might be able to stake out a batch of sofas in the Clare tho, a whole block and a half less to walk!

thing is, it wasn't a rock environment! one bloke telling stories in charming nasal bark over acoustic guitar, while other bloke with romantic sidepart gently plucks at bass beside him. I could have stared at the girl in front of me's arse except that I think I sort of chatted her up once last year and would feel awkward now just checking out her bum for an hour if it actually was her.

I leave work in less than an hour to see Wallace and Gromit movie

moley, Friday, 16 September 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

It's fucking atrocious hear in Melbourne. Rain must cease!

I have been sick for the last few days and I had to have an early night last night. Problem is, I like less than half a kilometre from the MCG. I was also kind of fevery.

My dreams were horrible roman colleseum types as a result.

moley, Friday, 16 September 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's from Liar. I was really looking for the black and white photo where he's wearing his glasses and REALLY INTENTLY reading a book that used to get used in print all the time early '90s style, but that was the only speccy Henry that google turned up.

On his tour this year*, he told a story about travelling across Siberia by train for five days, then getting out in the middle of a frozen wasteland, whereupon some wizened Russian came up to him: "I think I know you..." "Oh no, I'm sure you don't." "Yes yes! 'I AM LIAR!' It is you, yes?" "[thinks:] FUCK! two days in front of a camera fifteen years ago..."

*five or six cameras at the first Sydney shows, so probably out on DVD sometime

How is everybody?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

weirdly, a tad stressed about my admin assignment, due at 5pm. also BORED RIGID by the articles i still have to read for it.

gem (trisk), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

I'm on holidays. I'll probably being going into work anyway during the second week.

I'm considering tutoring to make some extra dollar dollar bills on the side.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

a little tired but i had a very productive weekend, even if some of it was quite irritating. and i am learning the value of backing up one's important data (such as the multitrack files for the new 'boat stuff) as the new protools update caused my computer to blue-screen and restart itself a dozen times

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

I am about to go up to Chapel street and buy sims2 nightlife, get a few girly things like shampoo and face masks, and if I have time, grab a feed and come home again before I go off to work.

So I better head off and do all that now, then ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

Shitting crap, that'd suck, Jim.

I want new games, Cait beats them too quick and ruins the ending.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

it turned out ok, i rolled back the update but it was pretty stressful there for a while

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 19 September 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

blue screens give me that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach, the one you get when you have a nightmare that you forgot an exam

gem (trisk), Monday, 19 September 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

i never, ever got one until protools entered my life

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 19 September 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

my old work computer was a big fan of the blue screen. i attribute this to the fact that it was an antique from 1995, poor old thing, it was just tired. i got tired too though, of it eating up important policy documents that i had spent hours and days painstakingly fabricating. i finally got upgraded a couple of months ago, i'm much more productive now that i don't have to deal with an hourly crash.

gem (trisk), Monday, 19 September 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

jim I have given your CD one listen, comments tomorrow

gaz I have copied yr Reynolds CDs (though I had to snip a few seconds off the end of a couple of tracks on the first one, it was too long!) and have 'em at work to return to you h'rah

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna quit my job. I didnt want to but I cant not, and now Ive rolled the ball in motion. I feel like such a failure right now.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

quitting a bad job that isn't likely to improve doesn't qualify as failure in my book

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

i think it's exactly what you need to do. i'm amazed you stayed as long as you have

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

Heh everyone keeps saying that :) I'm such a worrier. I have never had a job that left me feelign this shit and have to quit before. Luckily I'm in a position I can manage to do this (Ive been squirreling away most of the thankfully great pay Ive been getting) and now N's getting half-decent money. Least I'm not in my friend/coworkers position where I'm sure he'd love to leave too but he cant, as hes the only breadwinner in his house...

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

You'll do fine finding a new job. The job market is really great at the moment. Sign up with some agencies and you won't be out of a job long. I know everyone else has said it, but you don't need that kind of crap. You need to take care of yourself.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

Yeah signing up with an agency is the ONE thing I've always put off doing - recruiters all seem like such clueless wankoffs. It may be the only way for me to filter jobs down to suit, though. Hunting thru Seek et al has been annoying. IT&T always want endless helpdesk/sysadmin roles which is the exact thing I'm running screaming from.

I'm even thinking of doing a bit of study - though short courses are surely a waste of money (and I cant afford to go to uni or tafe). Gah why cant nick be earning bucketloads so I can go do a degree?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

Darren sat on his arse for months and months when he left his job earlier this year. After one day too many of him sitting on the couch, smoking cones and generally being a loser I told him if he didn't ring an agency that minute and try to get a job I would leave and never see him again.

He rang some agencies....

.....less than two weeks later he was in a job which he seems to love.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 02:54 (twenty years ago)

Heh. Thats showin' him! :) Sometimes people need a (less than) gentle kick up the rear :)

I should be ok... as long as I dont let myself fall in a rut :)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

i've never had a job as soul-destroying as yours seems to be trayce. i simply cannot imagine what it must be like, you must spend your days either miserable at work or filled with dread about going to work, and that makes up all the time you're not actually asleep... i can't believe you've stayed as long as you have either. no failure to give it the arse.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

The thing is, I dont know why I'm handling it all so badly. I take great pride in doing the right thing at work, even if I feel like "eh, its just a job". I turn up on time, I do my work, I'm nice to staff and clients, I try not to have sickies. I've never had a job where I've been "OMG WOW THIS JOB ROCKS!" but then, who does?

And when I started this job I did really like it. The new tech was challenging to learn, the location is GREAT, the hours were nice, the pay very good. It was when they threw the "shit sorry you'll have to do these weird hours for a while now" thing at me that I balked, and when I began to realise it wasnt gonna change in a hurry, I started to give up on the idea.

Now I'm just depressed because now I have to start all over again :/

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

Well they changed your job without asking you, which is what they did to Darren. You just end up feeling taken advantage of.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 22 September 2005 05:55 (twenty years ago)

I went in to see my boss today and I'm not quite sure what happened. I told him I'd been sick, he said he'd noticed and was going to ask me if I was ok, I said no, I'm not OK at all, teh shifts are wrecking my health. I told him, with a lot of umming and feeling like crap, that if I couldnt make some kind of arrangement to get off shifts I'd have to give my notice. He was all understanding and said he could see about putting me on a fixed shift (man, they must really wanna keep me here) but that he couldnt help the fact our job is going 24/7 soon anyway. WTF. I never signed on for that!

I then suggested he ask the other bosses about my "tech administrator" idea, like make a new role for me, he said he'd talk to the new GM and can I come see him again in a week?

So now I'm sort of in limbo :/ oh well.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 22 September 2005 06:59 (twenty years ago)

I think you should just go, but I'm certain it's hard to walk away from a job when you have bills to pay and they're dangling a carrot.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 22 September 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

I probably will, in the end. Timing is bad tho - theres only 4 of us in this team which is stretching it as it is. And one guy is on leave for 3 weeks from today, and we have a major upgrade this weekend, and the company's just merged with another, so a lot of shit is going down. Its all the not knowing I'm fed up with.

Money's not that much of an issue, I have enough saved I could survive for 4-6 months wi'owt dole if I had to :)

There goes my plan for a new laptop PC tho :( oh well, it isnt like i need one, heh. We already have something like six PCs in the house! *laugh*. My laptop, my desktop gamer beast, nicks pc (which we dont use), my old pc (which is a FrankenPC with Nicks RAM and stuff in), and my old creaky pentium 100 in the cupboard ;D

I'm so not a cure obsessive!

haitch in SYD (haitch), Saturday, 24 September 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

at every fap ever i bet there is mention of ned...

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:06 (twenty years ago)

I don't remember us talking about him last MelbFAP I was at, but we talked about Kate St. Claire I think and John Darni3lle.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

darnielle was mentioned here too. but then he played last week so hey. by and large we avoided ilxor chat. haitch kiboshed the idea early. i tried to steer the conversation round to ME as much as possible.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

We were too dorky to know not to talk about ilx :)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

we were too pissed. i vaguely remembered late in the night that i hadn't been looking at girls, much.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Why oughtn't fappers talk about ilx? I did not know of this rule.

Do tell!

estela (estela), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

no, actually we didn't. but i wish we had. for some weird reason i picture you as a small peruvian woman in a latex skirt.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

and pearls.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 24 September 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

actually scratch the latex skirt i just threw it in for effect. but pearl necklace yes. and wry grin.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 24 September 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

That's a bit uncanny, mully. I am not Peruvian though. And you are right to scratch the skirt. I mainly wear jeans. (And pearls sometimes, but not prissy ones.)

I wonder what kind of stars Kate meant: The Big Dipper kind, or cheesy actors from Home And Away?

estela (estela), Saturday, 24 September 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking about you earlier Kate (I hope this doesn't seem horribly presumptuous since I don't know you) and I was thinking that you should focus completely upon working at your photography and not worry about teaching or uni or difficult people–or anything– that doesn't help you go further with the photography. I think you are really talented and you should probably not throw yourself away in a classroom (or on people who don't appreciate you).
Sorry for giving my unsolicited opinion. I just hate to read 'life sucks' from you because I don't think yours should. You are young and clever and funny and I hope things work out really well for you.
(Forgive me?)

reps came to the uni today and gave my department 320 samples of crackers and cheese dip (for an office of 50ish). my workmates descended on the cheese mountain like crazed mice and now it's just a cheese hillock. i was involved in this downscaling and i think i might throw up quite soon.

I thought I orreddy went over all this... maybe that was on LJ.

Aaaanyway. Work's simply making me sick. I cant handle shiftwork, and especially not this kind of harsh, all over the place shiftwork.

So I had to go to my boss and ask if there was any relief on the horizon - was my role reverting to what I'd been led to expect ("don't know, nothing's been approved"), could I work a set day shift ("probably not, we're going 24/7 shortly").

Bugger, thinks me, I have no way out of this. So, its with a good deal of disappointment that I've decided to hand in my notice at N3wS4t, which I'll be doing tomorrow. Want to give 2 weeks notice; may have to give four, depends on my legal standing in that regard.

Its a shame cos on days, I quite enjoy this work.

"The classic document of punk and postpunk music in Australia
Inner City Sound
edited by Clinton Walker
paperback, 192 pages, with 285 photographs
AUD$34.95 (mailorders please add AUD$5.00 for postage within australia)

"The bands that emerged from the punk scene of the late 1970s in Australia, including the Saints, the Birthday Party, Radio Birdman and the Go-Betweens are among the most important bands of their time. Inner City Sound is the classic documentary account of the explosive development of that scene in the inner cities of Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. Fanzine and newspaper articles, illustrated by 285 photographs, vividly portray the creative ferment of the period and the dozens of bands that sprang up in the wake of the punk pioneers, including the Scientists, Severed Heads, Hunters and Collectors and many more.

"Inner City Sound was first published in Australia in late 1981 as the postpunk scene was approaching its zenith, but soon fell out of print. Yet it became so sought after over the years that it has been bootlegged like the rare singles listed in its discography, and its influence was so seminal that it helped shape the Australian indie rock scene of the following decade.

"With this new edition, Inner City Sound is now in print officially for the first time in over 20 years and for the first time ever outside Australia. What's more, original editor Clinton Walker has added an additional 32 pages of articles and photographs, taking the story through to 1985, a period in which the careers of Nick Cave, the Go-Betweens and the Triffids, for example, began to flourish internationally.

Oh sorry, you said brief.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 06:01 (twenty years ago)

that cd looks great!! except for the go betweens track.

task force!! whatta song

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 06:02 (twenty years ago)

that looks nice!

no word on heefy kit - i fuckin hope so. i asked him to. i believe he is scribing PR waffle for someone - any ideas?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

Fuck Howard's a cunt. Jesus I'm fucking angry.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

adds its like hes a cunt we know. yr right. why get angry when he acts like one? i dunno i lost my will to despair at politics a long time ago.

(actually i mean yeah good on you but this reductive despair ah no more for me)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

xpost:

could be anybody, with that starry Drum Media background innit

agreed, I'll buy that next time Laughing Outlaw have a sale on ('swalkable from my house)

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

Gaz, it's because Howard is giving Australia's media over to Murdoch. Destroying democracy. He's done a lot of evil shit but this takes the cake, that's why I'm so wound up.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

the world doesn't get better does it? not when you vote a fucking prick in and give him power.

i saw a "houses of the future" exhibition today. the cardboard house had a huge tarp over it - seemes the carboard was getting soggy in the rain. fucks sakes - disposable housing now?

all of the other houses were crap and showd signs of rain damage.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

that inner city sound comp looks rad. the expanded version of the book is a treat too (the reason that go-bes song is on there I'd reckon is that it gets a mention in the foreword).

haitch in SYD (haitch), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

FAO Haitch: Scott Doolz has been eloquently chewed out on the M&N thread about last nights trivia

hahaha. really they should've just given him a jug to himself and got him to heckle from the bar, rather than a mic and "brains trust" status!

haitch in SYD (haitch), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Did something happen Adam or is it just random firing of neurons?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

Up ya.

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

I no longer watch the news or read papers. I'm dead serious. I dont give a fucking shit about Howard, politics, football, hurricaines, crime, wtf ever. It can fuck off and bother itself, and I'll stay happy thanks.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

That's kind of what I'm doing. Every time I pick up the paper, I think to myself "Jesus, the news makes me cross.". Ign'ance is bliss.

In other news, I have an audition to go on Temptation next week. Give me your money, Channel 9!

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

Haha yeah, go Ed! A close friend of mine was on Sale once. I saw it entirely by chance on TV :D She told next to NO ONE about it, cos she lost and was rather embarrased I suspect :)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

How about that lightning storm just now anyway? Wooh =) I love storms :D

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 11:06 (twenty years ago)

Morning mongrels. I am about to go into my work and do nothing but look at marking for eight hours, even though that's but some of the crap I've left on the backburner. Then I may pretend it's Friday and inhale a bottle of wine, meaning I have an excuse to not actually start on my backlog come Friday.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

is it my imagination or is ILX as dead as a doornail these days?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

It's not dead, it's just boring.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

well, yes.

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

I've noticed it too. It's probably time we had a jolly good fight to get everyone moving again.

estela (estela), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

I wouldnt say its dead in the usage sense: ILove Games seems lively, and there's enough people whining and bitchfighting as per normal, yawn..

I havent been on here much tho cos I'm way too busy at work (I'm holding down a shift that really needs 2 or 3 people on my own this week). I dont 'net a lot after work, I'm usually so wrecked I just want to get drunk and watch Futurama DVDs.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

Trayce, have you, you know, yet?

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 29 September 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

i think she did that a good number of years ago

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

Hah. As if I would have resorted to euphemism if I were talking about THAT.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 29 September 2005 00:14 (twenty years ago)

Nyeh heh ;)

Err.. I mean... heh. No, not yet - this afternoon, after my shift is over.

At this stage my last resort suggestion is gonna be to tell them "if you do end up getting approval for that new position you wanted me to do, in say 2 or 3 months, call me and headhunt me back - I will still do it, if I'm not working elsewhere by then".

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

omg, I was just going through some receipts and stuff, and... I'm into three figures on the records and cds and books while I've been up here. WELL into three figures!

haitch in SYD (haitch), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

don't stop!

estela (estela), Thursday, 29 September 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

Morning.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 29 September 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

"Well... on this "date" I went on earlier this week, not only had the boy heard of ILX, but knew several of the regulars. And he was someone random from the interweb."

"Don't worry, Matt, he only knows people on another continent."

Hahah, Trayce, Jim, 'social networking software' indeed!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

i actually, genuinely, hope something comes of it.. perhaps this was meant to happen?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

I'll get the popcorn then!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Um, ACB is seeing someone else already. He has made a point of saying he had coffee with K as a friend and nothin' else.

He also made some pointed rude comments about your "online persona" to me in an email after I begged off having to explain our LJ posts by saying "I dont know her, this is all based on ILX... leave me out of this!"

Gah.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

whose? mikeys? or mine?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

meh, doesn't really matter anyway. like i care what dude does with his life

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, but if you can't roll with the Bidness...well, then...I guess you just can't!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Ok, now I'm slightly pissed.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

...that he was e-mailing you and harassing you, Trayce.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

yeah sorry Mikey I meant Jim. And Mikey knows this I'm sure ;) But theres a difference between savagely funny assholism fire n brimstone like Mikey, and uhh.. talking to oneself screeching insanity um er I am not comfortable with talking about people like this, Im going to stop now.

xpost yeah I wasnt happy he dragged me into this shit privately either, but he's a creepy bugger like that. I could tell some stories...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

ARCK I still wrote that ambiguously. I MEANT MIKEY. Not Jim. FARK. I'm having a bad day.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

I am also dropping this subject because this is a public board and this is not fair or polite to talk about (well I dont want to be That Kind of Person anyway).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Not to mention the rest of us have no idea what the three of you are talking about :)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

I thought I was the only baffled mong:)

estela (estela), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

colliding worlds

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

I have an inkling, but only through a little detective work of my own.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

it could be worse. it could be belinda and calum

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Ha! Yes.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

I wonder how much an industrial pedestal fan is to buy.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

i made 'intestinal' out of those two words and was bewildered

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

savagely funny assholism fire n brimstone

Hahah, I'm going to use that.

Belinda, wait, WHAT? The Belinda I know?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

An intestinal fan?

To blow out the stink?

I can do that okay by myself :)

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

i was painting a picture

xpost

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

Hey if these posts make no sense to half the mongrels then itll make less sense to those involved. Which was nice. etc.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

Haha, she's a minor celebrity.

http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Minga

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

Friends, you're better off not knowing these people - well, Belinda at least. OH SNAP.

I better not prod her, last time she called my house and threatened to come sit on my doorstep.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

you'd have to get Flick in

jimmy glass (electricsound), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

I gotta give her props, she gave me the idea for my range of t-shirts - 'FUCK YOU, I'M A DRAGON!' for the furry roleplaying crowd, right after 'I'M AUT-ASTIC!' for internet cranks.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, wasn't the first to come up with 'autastic'. Damn, that was comedy gold.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

In other news guess what? I STILL HAVENT RESIGNED.

Why? Because my fucking boss was "too busy" to see me SO I COULD HAND IN MY NOTICE - even though he KNEW thats what I was trying to do, and he ASKED ME to see him y'day afternoon.

I can't even QUIT around here. WTF. Im tempted to email the resignation letter to HR so at least SOMEONE has it this week.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

Fuck that shit Trayce, go wait until he's out of his office and pin the letter to his desk with the biggest knife you can find. He can't ignore it then.

Seriously, how much disrespect does that show to an employee?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Thursday, 29 September 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I know. Everyone else is baffled and sad for me and stuff. And I dont even WANT to quit, I like it here when Im not forced to work fucking stupid mental 24hour shifts.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

Explain the concept of a 24 shift...

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

Wanna hear something odd? I read your post above mike, about t-shirt slogans, then went to The Age home page and saw these two headlines, one after the other:

'New Anglican head warns of evil 'dragons''
'Autistic teenager walks 30km to safety'

estela (estela), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

Ooooh twilight zone!

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

Its like this: we're supposed to have a helpdesk available 24/7, cos we have staff and clients here and in the middle east.

But! We only have FOUR helpdesk staff. You do the math - you cant do it. So we have 2 dudes on days, 2 on evenings, and one of those 2 on evenings stays "on call" the rest of the night after their shift - and then ALL WEEKEND - and then goes right back oto a morning shift the next monday - once a month.

With no per-call or hourly fee, just a 20% loading for the shiftwork. It blows, and they're being tightasses and we all HATE it.

It is the fundamental reason I'm leaving.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

G'uh, what the hell? How are you even functional after the first night?

Estela, that's crazy! I'm noticing that kind of thing more and more though.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

Trayce, I would be going out of my mind. I hope it gets sorted pronto.

Mike, I know!!

estela (estela), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I'd be like "I will need a Lilo and sleeping bag, the company credit card to order in and a PSP, kthxbye!

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

I might buy a DS today.

JIM! belated thoughts on CD from last week, sorry, I've been really busy at work (which will probably continue for months to come, semi-fortunately):

the stuff that I am guessing the A&R blokey added to the mix was all a good idea, lots of shimmery and shoegazey texture-type stuff that really complements the songs
very good job on the sequencing, the mix of upbeat vs gentle songs and boy vox vs girl vox works really well
I can't remember anything specific about particular songs that I especially liked right now, sorry :( - I did have things to say last Thursday...
the cover you posted is possibly not going to appeal to people who would like the music at all! but then I guess that's the contrast you want to go for.

more if I get time after listening again next week.

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 30 September 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

Jim, I may have said this before but I quite liked your record. I think the second half was quite a lot stronger than the first, but without a tracklisting I couldn't pinpoint specific songs. I think my very favourite was either the last or second last, I shall re-listen to it and confirm.

Also, according to the What do you look like thread, I am a skinny Marky Mark. Hooray! I can rap better than he can, though.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:18 (twenty years ago)

Argh, what I actually wanted to say was MORE GEM PIX PLZ!

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

Hey! *sulk* What about ME! ;P

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

that's very interesting (and actually very cool) ed because i was concerned we'd heavily front-loaded the record. glad to hear that's not necessarily the case.

where is gem anyway? having a life i suppose

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know where you buy brass scales?

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

so what you're saying is you'd like the brass tacks on where you could purchase brass scales?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

I thought MORE TRAYCE PIX PLZ went without saying. Oh well, clearly it didn't. MORE TRAYCE PIX PLZ. I am also taking suggestions for amusing things I can terrorise with my camera now.

Jim, send me a tracklisting and I'll tell you specifically which ones were the best.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

I'd need brass balls for that.

As it stands I found a place.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

tracks are: war against silence / apples / reynard st / tiny tales / columns & rows / so long to find you / on one condition / unfinished buildings / between scores / offside / you can't lose what you never had / the same side / a street in any town

jimmy glass (electricsound), Friday, 30 September 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

(we left off trace the outline because the recording sucked, we're redoing it for the next one instead)

jim i think you are better at vocal hooks in the verses than choruses on this record! almost every song is instantly recognisable before the chorus.

I been nostalgia-hunting this morning. After reading some precious old letters with a giggle, I decided to do some google and whitepages searching for missed old friends and exes.

I found a T Della in Brunswick, and it seems it might be a Tony Della. I am wondering if it is the Tony Della who was my first b/f.... seems weird I havent seen him in 10 or 15 years even though we seem to still live in the same city :/

Ah well.

Haha Col yes, I did like that article. Its a worry people have to lie that much on CVs though - too often people then end up in a job and they're clueless at what they do as a result.

I have never had much trouble doing well in interviews, and I don't have a huge amt of confidence in mself. I think there must be a lot of morans out there.

My eyes hurt. I'm tired.

gem (trisk), Monday, 3 October 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

No, my degree is all fucked up cause I'm doing a double degree. Put it this way, the best parts are over. It's all theory now.

Did I like it? Hmmmm....the music is tragic, but the rococco-esque costume and staging is brilliant. Theres certainly a lot I can mentally salvage from their work anyhow.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Monday, 3 October 2005 09:31 (twenty years ago)

yeah even from what i remember the video had a lot more merit than the song.

it's cool to be on the downward run on your degree anyway i imagine. i guess the theory parts would be pretty dry and tedious compared to prac though

gem (trisk), Monday, 3 October 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

Well I've actually still got at least a year to go and more if I do honours like they want me to. The fine art degree is nearly done with, but the education degree is still dragging on and on and on and on.

GET ONE BEER IN YOU, GAZ. THIS IS AN ORDER.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

That was a bit of a Homer Simpson accident, from the sound of it.

moley (moley), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

I just went to the doctor too, because I'd had a fuckoff virus. Gaz, you win though mang, you is hardcore.

I am listening to the Decemberists...

We are two mariners
Our ships' sole survivors
In this belly of a whale

Its ribs our ceiling beams
Its guts our carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill

You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you, a lad of eighteen

But I remember you
And I will relate to you
How our histories interweave

At the time you were
A rake and a roustabout
Spending all your money
On the whores and hounds
Oh Ohhhhh

You had a charming air
All cheap and debonair
My widowed mother found so sweet

And so she took you in
Her sheets still warm with him
Now filled with filth and foul disease

As time wore on you proved
A debt-ridden drunken mess
Leaving my mother
A poor consumptive wretch
Oh Ohhhhh

And then you disappeared
Your gambling arrears
The only thing you left behind

And then the magistrate
Reclaimed our small estate
And my poor mother lost her mind

Then one day in spring
My dear sweet mother died
But before she did
I took her hand as she, dying, cried:
Oh Ohhhhh

"Find him, bind him
Tie him to a pole and break
His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
Wakes up naked
Clawing at the ceiling
Of his grave
*sigh*"

It took me fifteen years
To swallow all my tears
Among the urchins in the street

Until a priory
Took pity and hired me
To keep their vestry nice and neat

But never once in the employ
Of these holy men
Did I ever once turn my mind
From the thought of revenge
Oh Ohhhhh

One night I overheard
The Prior exchanging words
With a penitent whaler from the sea

The captain of his ship
Who matched you toe to tip
Was known for wanton cruelty

The following day
I shipped to sea
With a privateer

And in the whistle
Of the wind
I could almost hear...
Oh Ohhhhh

"Find him, bind him
Tie him to a pole and break
His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
Wakes up naked
Clawing at the ceiling
Of his grave

"There is one thing I must say to you
As you sail across the sea
Always, your mother will watch over you
As you avenge this wicked deed"

[haunting, sailor-esque musical interlude lead by mandolin, accordion and tuba]

And then that fateful night
We had you in our sight
After twenty months at sea

Your starboard flank abeam
I was getting my muskets clean
When came this rumbling from beneath

The ocean shook
The sky went black
And the captain quailed

And before us grew
The angry jaws
Of a giant whale

[instrumental noise]
Oh Ohhhhhhhhhh
[screaming]
Ohhhhh
[screaming]

Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth

But, O! What providence!
What divine intelligence!
That you should survive
As well as me

It gives my heart
Great joy
To see your eyes fill with fear

So lean in close
And I will whisper
The last words you'll hear
Ohh Ohhhhh

Yeah, I know it sounds like a neckbeard sea shanty, but seriously, it's quite badassed, in a vaguely 'horatio hornblower' kinda way.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

oh no! i think bike thieves must be in for the worst kind of karma. that's no consolation to you though. i've been a bit devastated both times mine's been stolen. much more than when my car was stolen. was it insured? identifiable?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

I'm about to buy one. Shitballs! I'm going to frigging mine my bike so any fucking thief loses a limb or two.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

Though my apartment block has an impressive bike rack.

But very loud people downstairs.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:28 (twenty years ago)

one of mine got flogged from an apartment building bike storage shed. it wasn't impressive though, it was the old laundry building. rather than mining it i recommend the less violent method of listing it with your insurance company because then you can just claim it if it goes walkabout. less satisfactory than seeing the bike thief's leg blown off mind you.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

You somehow make it seem so unreasonable, Gem...

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 05:32 (twenty years ago)

I'll be unemployed soon too WOOT. I just wish it'd happen already, I'm having problems controlling my anger at the moment. Work RANG ME this morning at 10, knowing full fucking well I'm doing the oncall shift which means the only "non work" time you get is from 1 am til about lunctime. SLEEP TIME FUCKERS. And it wasnt even anything important. GEEZ.

Making and sending birthday cards with my daughter and going on an 'adventure' with her (this is where we take the train to an unkown destination and just see what there is there).

moley (moley), Friday, 7 October 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

oooh i love that train game. it's my favourite thing to do in a new city, just hop on the first train that comes along and see where it goes.

i'm going to be studying pretty much all weekend (how much does my life rock). and also going to see little fish.

gem (trisk), Friday, 7 October 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

Its Nicks birthday tomorrow. I havent bought him a present or anything :( His family are coming over for a late lunch, which I had no say in - I'll be on call, I wont have gone to bed til midnight the night before, we have hardly any food in the house and it's a mess :(

And I have to work today so Ive no time to sort it out.

ARGH.

oh! sorry. like a performance! that was a really stupid question. i love those, two of my best mates are dance teachers so i get to go to a lot. there is never anyone there for me to have a secret crush on though :(

is the co-worker the secret crush?

the secret crush is another co-worker!

haitch (haitch), Friday, 7 October 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

i think i'm going to develop a secret crush on a coworker, we have a new graduate on our floor and he's a bit dreamy.

gem (trisk), Friday, 7 October 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

haitch (haitch), Friday, 7 October 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Friday, 7 October 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

I worked out what to do for Nicks birthday. He wanted cute party junk food like cocktail franks with sauce... so I wrote up a bigass list of food for him to go buy - franks, sauce, a roast chook, some mini quiches, dips and cheeses and bikkies and i'll make tater salad and coleslaw and we'll just have a big buffet fingerfood feastie.

Then next week we'll chuck a house party when I'm working sane hours again.

(anyone wanna come over for that? Mikey/Jim/Adam/Sash etc? next Satdee nite?)

oh, this is something new from Sydney? never mind me then.

kit brash (kit brash), Sunday, 9 October 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

Something new that sounds like something well out of date.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

the first trip hop song was released in 1971

jimmy glass (electricsound), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone have a clear idea of what the first music video was? My brother was debating it with me on the weekend. He says Subterranean Homesick Blues.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

probably something by the stones or beetles

jimmy glass (electricsound), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

That's weird - there was a trip hoppy/Bristol bstyle band in 1999-2000 that Scratchie was producing and who released a few tracks on compilations - they were also called Spook. I named them! Not the same band, obviously.

moley (moley), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

that's a shame!

hmm wiki seems to think the first MVs were by tony bennett and ricky nelson

jimmy glass (electricsound), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

('56 and '61)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

jimmy glass (electricsound), Monday, 10 October 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

Oo I might have a listen later :)

Ugh... I totally overdid it last night on the smokes - I can hardly breathe now and I have a baaad pain in my left side which feels lungish in origin, and is freaking me out a bit.

Any good tips for smokers detox? Steam baths? Exercise? I need to totally lay off this shit once and for all. Maybe I should go spend a weekend in one of those health resrts.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 10 October 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

thanks kate! golden circles are lovely indeed. there's something about them that is unmistakeably brisbane, either that or they just remind me of other brisbane bands in various ways. they remind me a bit of the triangles..

true dat. a girl i was at school with did the stage production course at WAAPA, volunteered for them then ended up working for them for the last 3 years or so.

So. The songs are finished for the EP, now we need to do artwork, post-production and make the damn things. By Friday.

Tugboat we are not.

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

how long does post-production and making the things actually take? in real terms?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

that depends

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

hey if the next one takes four years i'll hang meself

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

I don't even know what post-production means in real terms, I'm considering it as adding samples to the completed tracks.

Making the things = buying some spindles of blank CDRs and all sitting around the lounge room cutting and pasting and drawing for a day or so.

1 entry found for post-production.
post·pro·duc·tion Audio pronunciation of "post-production" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pstpr-dkshn)
n.

A final stage in the production of a film or a television program, occurring after the action has been filmed or videotaped and typically involving editing and the addition of soundtracks.

Okay, I'm sorta right.

Sasha (sgh), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

it feels like friday night! i spent a class on *ahem* workplace relationships proving what a dick i am. ah well, these kids today - too cool for self disclosure.
plus i nearly strangled someone. in another class. mikey? ed? that common? it was just he is so...DUM.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Morning.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Did somebody die?

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 13 October 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Gaz, I never wanted to strangle anyone, though I did occasionally wish I could click my fingers and have gaffa-tape magically appear over someone's mouth. And once I flippantly suggested to my housemate, an explosives engineer, that rigging one particular's chair up with kaboom-stuff would make my life 10 times more bearable.

When someone appears DUMB, I usually got annoyed at myself for not being able to explain it well enough.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 13 October 2005 04:39 (twenty years ago)

in this case it cannot be explained it seems.

instruction in workbook = open new blank word document
student - scans own folder, can't find it, opens search window, begins searching for "new blank word.doc"

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 13 October 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

You don't necessarily need to strangle this student. What you need to do is immediately sterilise to prevent these genes from spreading.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 13 October 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

week one: everyone copy these docs to your own folder. you will have to open and modify them as per workbook instructions.

week two: sir, i can't find this document.
me: well, remember...its in your own folder. where we copied it to.

week three: sir, i can't find this document.
me: well, remember...its in your own folder. where we copied it to.

week four: sir, i can't find this document.
me: well, remember...its in your own folder. where we copied it to.

etcx etc

week eleven: sir, i cannot find this doc to modify?

i notice student has search screen open.

me: have you looked in your folder? where we copied them? WHERE EVERY FUCKING SINGLE DOCUMENT YOU HAVE MODIFIED SINCE WEEK ONE IS????

Cos in cust support you arent allowed to. But teachers kind of can.

My first use of a PC running DOS back in the late 80s was at a PC basics course when I worked at DFAT. Admittedly, a lot less people used PCs back then so you'd expect some stupidness.

This one old manager dude: "um excuse me, wheres the escape key? I cant see it".

I am completely unable to sleep at night because I keep hearing high-pitched noises, much like those made by the washing machine and dishwasher when they have finished. THIS REALLY SUCKS.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 14 October 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 14 October 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

i have five exams. as if it isn't bad enough that i have five exams, i have the fuckedest exam timetable ever - even though the exam period is 2 weeks, all of my exams are in the first 6 days, one after another. i dunno how i'm going to get through it. fortunately i've been studying a lot this semester, but not enough to make it all stress free i guess. it'd be good if someone set off a stinkbomb in one of my exams, forcing an evacuation and deferral of exam till later. preferably they would inform me beforehand so's i wouldn't spend too much time studying for that one.

ok, seriously flawed bad guy then michael

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

I play the brilliant misanthropic teacher who can tell much from a simple stain on the student's shirt and the way they look at one another. I am much like television's Dr Gregory House.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

i've become strangely addicted to that house show. i don't know why, usually it's the sort of soapy pap i would look upon with disdain. i think i have sort of a crush on hugh laurie.

gem (trisk), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:10 (twenty years ago)

No, don't feel bad, it's AWESOME. Hugh absolutely makes the show.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:11 (twenty years ago)

the accused will fear your poor regard. they believe you have insights into the very soul of humanity and to look at them with disappointment will ruin their lives.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:12 (twenty years ago)

be careful with this power michael.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah i bet mikey does killer dirty looks

gem (trisk), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

House isnt soapy pap!! It rocks! :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 14 October 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

Morning, you fucks.

What a beautiful, sunny day here in Melnourne. My part of Richmond is such a cozy little village.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Saturday, 15 October 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

yo trayce, where the party at? holla back.

haitch (haitch), Saturday, 15 October 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

oh it is seriously the first really beautiful day of summer here, the beach this morning was gorgeous. but i'm working at the library now booooo.

gem (trisk), Saturday, 15 October 2005 05:13 (twenty years ago)

We like House too gem! That lead character is pretty rough and salty for one of those shows.

moley, Saturday, 15 October 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

I also enjoy House. I imagine he is what I would be like if I were a doctor. Hi mongrels, I appear to be sick and I don't know what, or why.

edward o (edwardo), Saturday, 15 October 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

awesome as always. why is there a skeleton in there though?

gem (trisk), Saturday, 15 October 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

why not! more pls!

haitch (haitch), Saturday, 15 October 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

i didn't mean skeletor shouldn't be in there. just that i wondered if there was a special reason related to the masonic theme.

gem (trisk), Saturday, 15 October 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

Hmmmm....well the skull featured in some masonic emblems, also back in the victorian era, when this photo is sort of set, people liked to have photos of dead loved ones and skulls and stuff to remind them that life was fleeting, and that they should make the most of it and celebrate youth and beauty and all that....also, theres the idea of skeletons in closets, which really hits at the root of what this work is about.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 15 October 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

When I say photos of dead loved ones, I mean post-mortem photos.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Saturday, 15 October 2005 08:21 (twenty years ago)

post-mortem photos?!

also, all masons have skeletons underneath the tasty flesh.

haitch (haitch), Saturday, 15 October 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Yeah post-mortem. They were called Memento Mori.

bloody marvellous.

Who saw the last episode of Sex & Pop on SBS Fri night? Unbeliveable. Jim Foetus interviewed! Graeme Revell inerviewed! Lydia Lunch! Insane German live footage or Rammstein and Die Form! We were entranced.

moley, Saturday, 15 October 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

i believe i have taped this. i got foetus ache for 5 bucks from jb yesterday.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 16 October 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

mully, you're in for a treat. Mindblowing TV insofar as it started shallow, then went deeper, and deeper, and deeper! It was a US documentary but did not appear to be particularly US-centric. We went all over Europe and the UK too. Plus - props to our fuckin country! - three of the key artists examined were Australian - and they were all gobsmackingly insightful choices of a kind you'd think doco makers in pop music would be incapable of making when it came to Aussie music. And they stuck it somewhat to Nick Cave, while spending tons of time on Foetus and Revell, two of the most brilliant musicians ever to come out of Australia or NZ (from my somewhat irrational and tendentious perspective). It was inspiring in its own right as a piece of brilliant documentary making. The subject matter was in the right hands.

moley, Sunday, 16 October 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

Did I mention Diamanda Galas was in there? And those daft chicks from Rockbitch.

Plus, satisfaction on satisfaction, Jim Foetus finally got his due as the man NIN listened to very closely.

moley, Sunday, 16 October 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

I didn't even know it was on!

haitch (haitch), Sunday, 16 October 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

haha have you seen the fake penis spewing cum over little boys arse rammstein clip?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 16 October 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

I was flicking channels last week and encountered some rammstein @ big day out clips, pretend sodomy on stage!

haitch (haitch), Sunday, 16 October 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

i'd pretend to sodomise all manner of things if it got people along to my gigs. 11 payers on a saturday night. dear oh dear. must learn to publicise, this has gotten beyond a joke.

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Sunday, 16 October 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

Was a nice nite tho - we listed to the Salivation Army ep, ate lots ov food, and then I think I bored everyone into leaving by putting Ghostbusters on for Nick ;P

I think that's why I was so quiet at Trayce's - I was trying to stop myself bleeding on the inside.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 October 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

Nah man, it was 'cos I got beaten the fuck up the night before.

I actually really enjoyed myself and y'know, I'm not really the Mikey I am on the net IRL. I'm actually a shy, retiring mouse.

Its a shame Cait couldnt join us. I was quite looking forward to shootin' shit with her re writing :)

Two weeks, then she's free - she'll be a lot more amenable to coming out then.

She's also a lot cheerier since DIMIA aren't forcing us to get married.

Fnarrrr. ;D

Seriously tho. A good friend of mine just had a Vegas wedding! She did look gorgeous in her white chinese dress and chunky 50s shoes, and he in his wonderfully over the top pinstripe suit with the faux-fur collar and bandana.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 October 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

From M*n*:

'I played Supernaut at a party a few months back, and some townie retard asked me if it was the new W0lfm*ther single.... I should have killed him.'

moley (moley), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

I know that's funny, but I don't know why.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Haha Supernaut is a goth club classic from WAYYYY back, round these parts.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

Actually, would you believe I know Supernaut, but couldn't tell W0lfm0ther from the sound of a bar of soap.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

is that the band that sang i like it both ways?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm thinking it is, otherwise I don't actually know Supernaut at all and am in fact an ignoranus.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

the only wolfmother song i can bring to mind is the one that sounds like the white stripes. the one about the apple tree

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

Is it a matter of vital importance to have an opinion on WM? Can I just go with my default "It's rub" assuming anyone ever asks me?

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

Id never even heard of them til you guys mentioned it like, here. But that should be no suprise from me these days :/

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:30 (twenty years ago)

do the cardigans still do sabbath covers? they'd do a good "supernaut", possibly. I like the 1,000 homo DJs one the bestest.

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

haitch (haitch), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

Excellent. My life has become richer and more fulfilling since I stopped bothering to have opinions based on actual experience. Gives more time for... whatever it is I do that's not listening to rub.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh I should probably have clarified that goffclubs play the 1000 homo djs versh . I forgot it was a bloody cover *smacks self in head*

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

More like 1991 man =) I was playing like, Swervedriver and shit!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

Nah, the OMNIFUCKINGPRESENT Pi soundtrack nudged it forward a few years.

RESTATE MY ASSUMPTIONS

Heheh, I also downloaded New Gold Dream by Simple Minds and have been playing it fairly non-stop. The synths were ripped off for a very chessy early rave track I am a shameful fan of.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 04:47 (twenty years ago)

i bought that last week, it's good but it's a lot more dated than i expected it to be. of course as always it's difficult to gauge from one half-listen

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

I love NGD and listen to it A LOT these days. Moreso than I did when it came out.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

Maybe it's because the Noughties are like the Eighties, Part Two.

Not listening to much new music.

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

Jim, my friend thinks the Tugboat album cover looks like a chill-out electronica compilation. Listened to it when I got home in any case. It was good.

Sasha (sgh), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

ah cool, thankyou. yeah whilst i still like the cover (not the quality of the printing though) i can see that it doesn't really fit into our aesthetic, inasmuch as we have one.

i have ideas for the sleeve of the next one that aren't too far away from 'heyday' by the church.

vacuum cleaner (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:21 (twenty years ago)

i saw simpering minds on the new gold dream tour. they were ok. jim wore baggy pants cos everyone knew of his appendage by then. i had seen them a couple of years earlier when empire and dance was out = millions of miles better (or was it the drugs?)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

also i made a fule of meself at the time when djing by drunkenly playing "i travel" (tuuuune!) after lights on for a girl i fancied only to find out she was a lesbian. even being the dj doesn't help one pull dykes (or was it the drugs?)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:38 (twenty years ago)

also i am PANICKING cos tomorrow instead of two classes i have to teach 4 (or is it 5?). to classes i don't know. cos someone is away.

bring a packed lunch said my head teacher.

where are the drugs now, eh?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

I just had a bizarre call from my sister and one of her friends, who wanted to vocalise the theme music to a kid's TV program from days gone by down the phone so I could settle a dispute as to what show it was.

It was Henry's Cat. And the friend was arguing with me saying it wasn't, so I was yelling at him down my phone and I think the people in the office next door have subsequently heard me YELLING AT LENGTH about theme music to poorly-animated children's shows.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/4314/sounds.htm

Sasha (sgh), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 06:22 (twenty years ago)

Indeed. It was the 84 theme that was being sung down the line to me. I was trying to explain that there were two distinct themes, but the friend wouldn't believe me. NOW I HAVE PROOF.
