as JtN has started a (strangely-titled) Premiership 06/07 thread, it seemed only right and proper that the fantasy league should start up again.

as usual it is here: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/

and your ILX League of Champs is 149287-29014

my auto-complete team contains both Walcott and Jon Obi Mickel, are they taking the p!ss???

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 16 July 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

also, everyone seems just that little bit more expensive this year, extreme cunning is going to be needed to have 11 decent players each week...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 16 July 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

ok, maybe sunday afternoon wasn't the best time to post this...

then again maybe 5pm on a work day isn't the best time to bump it either...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Les Coups des Boules are in! I will continue my streak of not being very good at this!

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

35 minutes well spent there...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

lalalalala

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

i'll read the rules before i start this time.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in and prepared for my usual slow start.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

Bump.

Sporting Redcliffe's pre-season tour of the Faroe Isles has set them up for a championship challenge.

Ranking Rupert (Ranking Rupert), Saturday, 29 July 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

only 18 teams? blimey, where are the others??

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 31 July 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

Still a couple of weeks away from the start of the season though.

My team looks quite exciting on paper.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 31 July 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

there are also the inevitable pre-season injuries to watch out for, it's going to take a fair degree of luck to keep 11 scoring players week in, week out i'd say...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 31 July 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone else decided that Henry REALLY IS too expensive this time and it would be more fun to avoid picking him all season?

I was tempted to suggest a 'No Henry' league-wide pact!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 31 July 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

could we have a thread about FIGHTING FANTASY FOOTBALL, in which armed with a sword you get to try and fight your way to the goal on the other side?

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 31 July 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

or a fantasy league in which liverpool will win the premiership?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 July 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

MICHAEL CARRICK

SKILL: 8
STAMINA: 7
COURAGE: 6

If you defeat the Carrick turn to page 312. If you lose turn to page 75. if your gonads are crushed by a rampant Rooney turn to page 400.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 31 July 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
Oh, Ashtonpaws!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

im consoling myself with the thought that everyone had ashton, so makes little difference

-- (688), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

Really? I thought Ashton was my unique secret weapon.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

who's ashton?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

Cech is also injured. Won't play this weekend.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

Everyone had Ashton as their Unique Secret Weapon. I am now putting faith in, of all people, James Beattie. This may well prove to be misguided.

Anyway, bump. Needs more players - this is still quite small by ILE FFL standards.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

i've had to go with Harewood as Ashton replacement :/

no Terry, Lampard or Henry this time so it's a transitional phase for us, Maniche

didn't want to gamble on Berbatov this soon. ditto Van Persie. Andy Johnson otoh...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

I added Blizzard from Watford to my squad. His name is Blizzard, c'mon!

My Ashton replacement is actually... Helguson. But he's my sub. For now.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

Cech is also injured. Won't play this weekend.

Is this confirmed? I've had to sell him as well now. I have a new unique secret weapon which I will keep secret.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

My sub keeper has already been loaned out to bloody Leeds.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Cech def out. he can't raise his arm above his shoulder or something.

Pete W (peterw), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

I have joined, with almost the same strip as Ailsa. You lot and your team colours :)

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Friday, 18 August 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

I have a new unique secret weapon which I will keep secret.

Yeah I thought about Samaras and Saha as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 August 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

you shouted me down for suggesting samaras. i think city might play him out wide though?

-- (688), Friday, 18 August 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't shout you down, I laughed at you. Then I heard Motty mention his recent scoring record and began to reconsider. I'll give him a couple of games though. Andy Cole looks worth a punt as well, but I think Man City are going to start the season badly.

Defoe's potentially a good pick, he's got the bit between his teeth right now and will need to seize the moment in order to win back his place in the team.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 August 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

oh ballacks.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 18 August 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

I HAVE PICKED CURTLY AMBROSE FROM CHARLTON.

(humourous nickname only cos I can't remember his proper first name - Darren is it?)

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Friday, 18 August 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

OH ROSICKYPAWS

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Friday, 18 August 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

England could have done with King Curtly today instead of Grievously Bollocks Harmison.

It is Darren, and you have chosen wisely. :-)

Scourage (Haberdager), Friday, 18 August 2006 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

I feel naked without at least one Charlton player, it's true.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 18 August 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone put a team into the Metro one? Me and Onimo are in, is it worth starting an ILX league?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 18 August 2006 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

You don't need secret weapons when you've got Bobby Convey.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 18 August 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone put a team into the Metro one? Me and Onimo are in, is it worth starting an ILX league?

Let me know if you do.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Friday, 18 August 2006 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

u_u are ready to play total acid football

: hahnemann

-- (688), Saturday, 19 August 2006 09:36 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in. Start up the ILX league someone.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 19 August 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

this doesnt look good, for...anyone!

-- (688), Saturday, 19 August 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

Thank goodness for Leroy Lita, I'd be somewhat stuffed otherwise. Still, three Chelsea players to come. Plus, given Crouchy's non-participation, I think that means I get Michael Tonge subbed on and apparently he got an assist. Which is good.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 19 August 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

For some reason Gerrard's score has been changed, rescuing me in the process. My UNIQUE SECRET WEAPON in place of Ashton was Benny McCarthy. Carragher off injured and Lucas Neill sent off.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Saturday, 19 August 2006 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

Lucas Neill is about to pull a Gary Breen on us. Great WC followed by wretched, disastrous domestic season.

Djimi, I shall enjoy yelling at you during MOTD tonight.

Scourage (Haberdager), Saturday, 19 August 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

This yank has joined your league is now in 7th place.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 19 August 2006 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

the bonuses have been added, thats why the score has changed

-- (688), Saturday, 19 August 2006 20:01 (nineteen years ago)

Nyaaaaagh, way to underperform/fuck up everyone in my team!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Saturday, 19 August 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

This yank is also drunk and has trouble with grammar.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 19 August 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

ILX Allstars are go in the Metro League. Password/PIN is 10763.

I appear not to have any points yet, oh well.

Proper Fantasy League will get better once subs are done and 12 point Bobby Zamora hauls his sorry ass off my bench.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 20 August 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

I suspect they are waiting for all the fixtures to be over because METRO STAFF ARE LAZY BASTARDS.

Anyway, I'm in.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 20 August 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

I need Robben to get at least one goal today - but will he play 90 mins?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 20 August 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Why does Friedel have 9 points, incidentally?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 20 August 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

saved a pen and made 9 saves, but even so, that should only be 8 points in total? 1 point for playing, 1 point for every 3 saves, and 4 for the penalty save (1+3+4=8?)

-- (688), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

2 points for playing.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

(playing the whole game, that is, you only get one point if you get subbed on or off)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

it's just mad that he got more points than keepers who kept a clean sheet - ah well.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

but michael gray only got point for playing

Blackburn
Friedel 90 0 0 3 1 0 0 0 9 0 9
Gray 90 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 1

because they should have both lost a point, when the 2nd goal went in. gray did, but...friedel didnt?

-- (688), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

and why the fulham defenders all have no points at all, because for every other goal conceded, another point is lost

-- (688), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

2 points for playing and then

+4 for clean sheet=6
0 for conceding a goal=2
-1 for conceding every 2 goals after that, so

lose 1-0 = 2 points
lose 2-0 = 1 point
lose 3-0 = 1 point
lose 4-0 = 0 points
lose 5-0 = 0 points
lose 6-0 = -1 point

etc

-- (688), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

ok penalty saves are 5 points, not 4, thats why

-- (688), Sunday, 20 August 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to play my transfer wild card thingy for the next round seeing as I'll have so many players out of it as it is.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 20 August 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

What transfer wild card thingy?

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Sunday, 20 August 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

you get one wild card you can use for one gameweek and one only where you can make more than one transfer and not have points deducted.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 20 August 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

Aha.

Ailsa - I'm bailing 'Mercantile Discredit' out of the Metro one already, as it seems that you can only enter your team into one private league and I'd already promised my brother I'd go in his league.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Sunday, 20 August 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

That's OK. I think the "one league only" thing is shit.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 20 August 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I have to accept or decline people who want to join my Metro league. POWER!

(I don't even know who the person that isn't me or aldo is!)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 20 August 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Jesus. 25/25 and 19/19 in the two leagues I'm in. Fucking Gabriel Heinze, getting injured and therefore allowing Lucas Neill into the team.

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Monday, 21 August 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

Bridge is tantalisingly cheap but Bouhlarouz will scupper his chances of regular selection it seems.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Bouhlarouz is right-back, centre-back; the impending signing of Cole will block Bridge - though he was excellent yesterday and'll surely play the next two or three games.

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 21 August 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

go berbatov!

-- (688), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

I've plumped for Berbatov over Defoe next week. Looks like I was wrong and he's been dropped to the bench already - Berbatov looks like being an automatic starter every week, and he's half a mil cheaper.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

haha, i'm totally portsmouth for week one, there.

i hadn't realised there were matches last night so haven't been able to change anything (yes, stephen warnock i'm looking at you and your gammy leg)...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

this isn't going very well so far. but as soon as i transfer Harewood he will score a hat-trick.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

Already, I think I have given up.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, bugger, I didn't realise about last night's matches either. Now I am stuck with a non-playing captain. At least I'll get Zamora off the bench again.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

well i had Robben as captain and he didn't even bloody play. relegation beckons...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

Oh bugger, I've used my transfer for the week on Berbatov and don't want to go throwing away points just yet. Unfortunately as Pompey aren't playing (and Mendes wouldn't play anyway), my Watford defender I picked to make up the numbers might now be subbed in just in time for them to get spanked 7-0 by Man Utd.

Or should I retain my nerve and hope for a plucky 10 men behind the ball performance resulting in merely a 2-0 defeat?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 August 2006 07:13 (nineteen years ago)

Does anybody know what happened to Gary Neville?

Pete W (peterw), Friday, 25 August 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

but portsmouth are playing. at middlesboro

mendes, of course, is not playing. i cant help but feel this is all due to your laughing at my suggesting of not putting him in. anyway, the preseason rejig meant a starting berth for chrissy r, so all is good

-- (688), Friday, 25 August 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/5281988.stm

b0llocks, peter.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 25 August 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey, I appear to be top of the league. How the hell did that happen? I must go on holiday more often.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

I am doing outrageously badly. This is what you get from a) picking a team of dark horses based on last year's form, and b) picking James Beattie.

I will hold my nerve though and Not Drop Thierry Henry. Although a serious injury sustained while playing for France would be nice. Save me the dilemma.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

hahahaa, yes.

this has reminded me not to make any transfers until after the international games...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

also, i suggest everyone goes and looks at the picture of sheff utd's michael tonge, who is clearly concentrating VERY HARD...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

i did quite well in the first week and then thought it was well clever to put rooney in as my captain for the second round (despite DEFINITELY have heard at some point about his SUSPENSION but WHY DIDN'T THE PREMIERLEAGUE WEBSITE WARN ME OR PUT A RED ICON NEXT TO HIME WHY??) and ben thatcher? fucked up mendes. oh well.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

How the hell am I in the top ten? And how much is Mido going to cost me?

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

I am rubbish. That is all.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

I am the rubbishest! Just in case, y'know, you want to know who that is all snug at the bottom of the league there.

This is what I get for picking a team full of people who didn't play and forgetting about it. Yay for using the wild card so early!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

So who will I have to unload for Petrov now???

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

well thats put an interesting slant on everything

-- (688), Monday, 4 September 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

how so?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 4 September 2006 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

rumours (strongly denied, of course) in the paper this morning that teves and mascherano's contracts include a clause saying they HAVE to play if fit...

...but would pardew drop zamora on his current form?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, of course he would.

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

by the time Ashton recovers perhaps Harewood will rediscover form too. how nice for Hammers fans to anticipate this striker selection dilemma. their UEFA Cup runneth over!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

Carsmile, last time Zamora was in this sort of form he was promptly dropped as soon as Dean Ashton arrived. I think he's the sort of player who's just destined to be unlucky in this regard. A move to the Valley as Darren Bent's replacement beckons, I think.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 September 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

I'm gambling on selling Bellamy and buying...er, Kanu.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Friday, 8 September 2006 06:39 (nineteen years ago)

Ouch. What a crappy weekend. Everything that could go against my team did, until Liam Ridgewell scored on Sunday (oh and Lucas Neill missing a penalty - that's why you're only on the bench sunshine).

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

All you motherfuckers who had Friedel.

Hey I actually got some points, maybe now I can finally start to recover from the amazing week where I got a MASSIVE NINE POINTS because all my players were Arsenal or Liverpool or something and not actually playing at all.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

i heart AJ

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

I am doing very badly, and I keep forgetting to make transfers ahead of the deadline.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

I LOVE YOU BRAD FRIEDEL PLS MAY I MARRY YOU OKTHXBYE

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

he scored?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

better than that, he saved two penalties

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

omg xtra pts for saving penalties is this a new thing?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

nah, it's just so rare (this weekend excluded) nobody really notices...

haha, i bet the 1841 people who subbed him out last week are GUTTED...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

or the person that at the last minute decided to put kenny on the bench, and hahnemann in the side

-- (688), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

i have stopped caring when on the 2nd week i used the wildcarrd and subbed out all the liverpool players (smart) and put in rooney and robben, and other players who are suspended/injured.

fuck.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Hat trick for Dunne tonight please or I really am screwed.

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

more by fluke than judgement my lot seem okay, its having the pompy players in (who were put in cause they were cheap but have scored better than the expensive ones they created room for)

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Monday, 11 September 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

Some big names lurking at the wrong end of the table: Matt DC, Ailsa, Ken C, possibly Mr Temporary Username too. I don't really know how my team got into the top ten with a strikeforce of Bellamy & McCarthy.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 07:44 (nineteen years ago)

ChopperInc creep ahead of Juve Fire Sale at the top, a strong showing from Thierry Henry Aaron, a dogfight between Clapton Wanderers and Blind Fury for that all-important 6th place, Mid-Table Rovers are in mid-table, Bhoyzone are off the bottom, and Red Bull Dozers sinking into deep trouble.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

gamble on Duff paid off, still waiting for Lehmann sub too.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Still waiting for Kirkland sub. Which makes me... still bottom!

YES. I still enjoy all this massively though, it's almost shameful considering how crap I am. Next time I think I will try and have a team with players that play at the beginning.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't really been paying attention, though MGP seems to have done enough to take me off the bottom of the league. The fightback starts here (as soon as I remember to get rid of James McFadden until he gets fit again). Also captaincy change.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

Guess which cockfarmer dropped MGP last night? I am at the arse end of the table for a reason, and I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that reason might be lack of Portsmouth players. Well strip me down and flay me alive with splintered darkwave CDs...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

I've just done my wildcard and changed my whole team, just about. Still only one Portsmouth player - I refuse to believe they'll keep this up for long.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Hang on, can you make more than two free transfers with a wildcard? Fuckfuckfuck what a waste.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 17 September 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

You can make LOADS. Like, your whole team. (expect hattricks for Stevie G and Stelios and Craig Bellamy next week, obv)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 17 September 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

I pledge now I will not end up bottom! I PLEDGE THIS!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 17 September 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Yay Bobby Convey and his mild overachievement!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 17 September 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

i was totally thinking "man MGP has done nowt this season, glad i didn't bother putting him in my team" only yesterday afternoon...

as i said way up there^^^ i reckon it's going to be hella tough having 11 players on the pitch this season (haha, also i have picked a load of crocks...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 September 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Arggh - No John Terry today :(

Can someone remind me that dropping Henry is STUPID THING TO DO?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 23 September 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

yay we're gash! yay relegation battle! yay but I DON'T CARE because the MEN of Worcestershire CCC have pulled the unlikeliest of PROMOTIONS out of their magical bag of tricks and conjurations! :-D

We're still fucking gash, though. Holland AND Hughes in midfield is a one-way ticket to rubbishdom.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Saturday, 23 September 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

My reluctant, but as it turned out timely, restoration of Frankie! takes Sporting Redcliffe from relegation certs to UEFA Cup hopefuls.

Ranking Rupert (Ranking Rupert), Sunday, 24 September 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

Me too! I was bottom last week then made with the wildcard transfer madness, and hurrah, not bottom any more. If only Fat Frank had the captain's armband as well...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 24 September 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

My reign of terror is over.

Pete W (peterw), Sunday, 24 September 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

bah, no fair. i was assuming that korean lad who plays for reading was a midfielder, what with him playing in midfield an' all, but they've got him as a forward. not sure if i want to swap zamora for him...

also matt, dropping henry is a stupid thing to do ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 24 September 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, I should pay more attention. I've lost 16 points from transfers because... uh... yes. Well. I'm click happy. Maybe I should read the rules also maybe.

I made Thierry my captain though, yay!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Monday, 25 September 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

i just reshuffled my whole team with a 16 points penalty because the team was SHIT.

TWO-GOAL ASHLEY YOUNG!
TWO-GOAL ASHLEY YOUNG!

and all the first XI played so minus-one-goal Damien Francis doesn't count either. Minnnnnt.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 2 October 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

Bah, I've got Young as a sub but didn't play him. He's got more in one game than Crouch has all season. I may have to drop the lanky git as Benitez isn't keen on him at the moment.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 07:56 (nineteen years ago)

Whee! I have got the most points so far this October! But why oh why did I not keep Thierry as my capitan?

Also all the other players I keep meaning to get are doing well before I can get them with no point deductions.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 22 October 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

I can't spell his name without google, but hurrah for Jussi Jaaskelainen and his 21 points.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

I have made some BRUTAL decisions. Stevie Me and Nolan have had to go. Why didn't I put my faith in recognised Fantasy League no-brainer Lamps from the start?

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

stupid rested Ronaldo. i suppose i must cave in and move for Henry now.

;_; (blueski), Monday, 23 October 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

A bad week for Pie FC. I have resorted to desperation, played the wildcard and replaced practically my entire midfield and defence.

So if anyone fancies signing Osman, Mendes, Knight, Mellberg, Nolan, Lampard or Wes Brown, they're certs to score heavily next week...

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh arse. My choice last week - shall I get Cahill or Fabregas? So I got Fabregas and got rid of Arteta.

DUH.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Saturday, 28 October 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

Lamps as captain, goals for Timmy and Supercalifragilisticgabbyagbonlahor, and all of a sudden the 'doddies have flown up to fourth. Blimey

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 28 October 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

The irresistible rise of Blind Fury continues, just two points off second place now. I had Terry as captain and feared he would have scored -6 or something (goal conceded, sent off, bad hair), but somehow he still scored points.

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 6 November 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

-- (688), Monday, 6 November 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

Automagic substitute thing meant I got to cling onto that coveted 17th place thanks to Olaf Mellberg and Frank Quedrue coming off the bench to give me 6 and 9 points respectively. Just as well, because not a single goal from anywhere in my team for, I think, the first time this season.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 6 November 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

more to do with Drogab captaincy, i would've thought. too bad you didn't play Knight last week eh?

2 american 4 u (blueski), Thursday, 16 November 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

ooh gutted that knight's on the bench though...

...although having drogba as yr capt no doubt made up for it. i have (possibly foolish (see all these threads, passim)) sacrificed rubbish old terry henry for a bit of hot ivorian action.

Cahill out for six weeks sa the beeb

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 16 November 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

why did i take the captaincy off drog last week? why? why? why?

Pete W (peterw), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

nothing will ever top my taking the armband off Henry because he was carrying an injury and then him scoring 7 goals in the next two games.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

Why did I get Cahill instead of Drogba last week? Pah!

I keep thinking about getting rid of Henry, then getting too scared.

ONE MORE WEEK

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

one more week of what?

-- (688), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

dude, you've got to get rid now while drog's still hot ;)

i am wondering what to do about my midfield, benny-oon won't be playing, but i've already done my transfer for the week, so i'd someone who's going to get me more then four points to be worth it...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

Ha, my thinking went along the lines of "Drogba's just scored a hat trick, I know if I get him NOW it'll all be downhill from here!", just like what happened with Cahill.

Something like that, anyway.

ONE MORE WEEK is what I keep saying to Thierry in my mind. I know I'd get Drogba and he'd flounder and get sent off for diving and petulanting and Henry would score about a million goals on one of those days Arsenal beat someone 6-0.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 16 November 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Anybody who is unlucky - hands off Drog until after the United game please...

I've been one-more-weeking with Gerrard all season, but finally had enough just in time to buy, and crock, Cahill. Gah.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 16 November 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

Why didn't Lehman play against Liverpool last weekend? He's not injured, is he?

I feel left out of the Henry v Drogba debate. My front line is dirt cheap: Johnson, Kanu and McBride. I haven't really got any pricey players - Ronaldo is my most expensive, but I've only recently brought him in to replace the serial non-achiever Gerrard.

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

I think he hurt himself on the way to the ground or something. Either way I'm dropping him quick smart as I realised I have got two top-notch keepers which is pretty dumb really.

I have just bought Micah Richards. I am such a bandwagon jumper.

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

me too. i just bought that villa forward whose name nobody can pronounce.

Pete W (peterw), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

I want to sign Giggs or Scholes (to replace crocked Cahill), but I don't trust Ferguson to play them ahead of a European game.

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Thursday, 16 November 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Lehmann had a bad throat, apparently.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

Still wrestling with the Cahill replacement conundrum. Why didn't Barry play last weekend (as in Gareth of Villa, rather than Eastenders/Extras)? Did he catch Lehman's sore throat? Is Hleb actually any good? If I sign Essien instead of Scholes how will I feel when Chelsea play United?

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Friday, 17 November 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Fabregas in for Cahill due to assist rate. considered Scholes (bet he scores against Sheff Utd now) tho.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 5 February 2007 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

by not having any good defenders, seems to have worked v well tho!

i just need to figure out how to accommodate Ronaldo back into my team now that he is scoring every game (unlike first few months of the season) alongside Lampard and hopefully i can finally break top 4...

vita susicivus (blueski), Monday, 5 February 2007 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

ronaldo/drogba are the new lampard/henry

e.g. i shouldn't have moved captaincy to drogba last weekend (i thought chelsea had a much easier game like!!!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 5 February 2007 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

I can't see myself challenging for the title, but I'm looking good for the final champions league place. Mind you, Ronaldo as captain has single-handedly been scoring most of my points for the last couple of months.

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 5 February 2007 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

I finally got bumped out of the cup after 7 weeks (by four points, because I left Shorey on the bench); still happy with my 2nd place though1

I can't see myself challenging for the title, but I'm looking good for the final champions league place. Mind you, Ronaldo as captain has single-handedly been scoring most of my points for the last couple of months.

the problem is most people on the top 8 (by now) have ronaldo as captain!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

but you get more points, more consistantly with good attackers than good defenders, unless they freakishly start scoring goals (eg linvoy primus) yr looking at 6 points a week max and it's very hard for a single defenders to influence the game in the way midfielders or attackers do.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

Yer Matt Taylors and other "defenders" who tend to play midfield are handy for this, although Huddlestone has yet to bring me the sudden mega haul I hoped. On the other hand, part time midfielder G Barry would have even more points if he was classed as a defender, which he largely has been.

I am pleased to see I am not quite bottom of the ILX league, despite being 8 weeks behind.

Michael Philip Philip Philip Philip Annoyman (Ferg), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

I am very disappointed that having swooped for Ronaldo he did not subsequently pick up a season-ending injury. Perhaps I should get round to making him captain.

Pete W (peterw), Monday, 5 February 2007 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

but you get more points, more consistantly with good attackers than good defenders, unless they freakishly start scoring goals (eg linvoy primus) yr looking at 6 points a week max and it's very hard for a single defenders to influence the game in the way midfielders or attackers do.

depends on your defenders - john terry used to be ace because he gets 'em 'eaders at the corners.

your strikers need to score more than 1 (or have assist) to get megapoints

scoring midfielders e.g. ronaldo, lampard seem to do the best overall, with their cleansheet bonus and extra point for each goal and usually aren't as expensive than the top strikers and thus are the best buys

ken c (ken c), Monday, 5 February 2007 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Sir Tehrance HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 5 February 2007 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

blueski, Thursday, 15 March 2007 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

How weird is that? I'd just remembered there were extra games last night, and checked my scores, and then thought to myself "I'll revive that long-lost fantasy football thread and see if anyone else still cares about it", and when I clicked on ILX it was there waiting for me at the top of the new answers page.

One point in it at the top then a near-sixty point gap then just 6 in it between 3rd and 4th. Squeaky bum time.

I'd just like to thank my competitors; it was an honour just to be in the same league as such hard-working, football-savvy fantasists. I'd also like to thank the players that helped me ascend to the league championship for the very first time: Ronaldo, Lampard, Arteta, Lescott, Primus, Drogba (till I dropped ya), and the revolving door of other strikers and midfielders whom I employed. This Yank would also like to grant special favours to two of my countrymen who had surprisingly great seasons in the EPL and on my team: Brian McBride and Tim Howard.

If Manchester City hadn't made a right haimes of it I'd be sitting pretty in the catbird seat. As it is, I'm satisfied, grateful, and cognizant of my good fortune. It was fun, y'all.
