FALATIO - fancy a lovely aliment to ingest orally?

I'm in from the London division!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

yes, that's what i meant! thank you, ken!

ai lien (kold_krush), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

In the unlikely event of anyone wanting a genuine Melton Mowbray pork pie I can supply.

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Ohhhhhhhhh.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

Total Tep bait, this thread. Anyway, yes, I'd be happy to supply bottles of that great goodness, Huy Fong sriracha sauce, for those as yet unblessed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

what is Huy Fong sriracha sauce??

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

spicy heaven in a bottle!

If I were still in Indiana I could provide jowl bacon -- any bacon-eater wants jowl bacon -- but alas. Hm. Whoopie pies, coffee syrup, Drakes cakes, Moxie, Polar soda.

I'm actually completely broke right now, owing people money, but once I can afford to mail things I would love to work something out with anyone who can pick me up a twelve-pack of Sun Drop.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

You all should have some of Jimmy's Satay Sauce. But that's really from Hong Kong and should be readily available in all good Chinese grocers anyway.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

All requests for Sundrop/Cheerwine should be directed this way.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

This is the sentence I am typing after backspacing "Jessie, what can I show you in the Funny Bones department?"

This sounds like a good game, and just before I go to camp too where food parcels are doubly welcome.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in -- Viennese stuff if we get going in the next three weeks, otherwise Swiss goodies. we should do this with a Central Scrutinizer assigning people to people, so we don't know what we're gonna get until we've gotten it.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

spicy heaven in a bottle!

Yus. Please to ask RJG, among others, for confirmation as to its goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

Tep, I have pretty close to ZERO knowledge of regional foods outside the south, so anything that is nummy would be worth a trade. (Sundrop is dirt cheap here anyway--I went to high school in the town it originated in!)

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:18 (nineteen years ago)

I am getting so poxyfuled.

It's kind of cheating, but I make fruitcake all the time. Like all the time. I have a cabinet full of aging boozed cakes (and my fruitcakes are good -- I sent some out a few months ago, Aimee's tried one, she'll vouch). I've been playing around with various things there.

Jessie: you are my new best friend. I have six cans of Sundrop in my dresser upstairs, because that keeps me from drinking it too quickly since I have to go get it and put it in the fridge. I know lots about regional food, so let me see what highlights I can think of from these here parts -- what do you like, in general?

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha cheerwine... makes me think of 2nd grade!

tehresa needs more out of this relationship than she's willing to put in (tehres, Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

anyone want anything from nyc?

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

xxpost I LIKE CANDY AND JUNK FOOD. PLZ MAKE ME MORE FATTER.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

I can get Cheerwine here (Lexington, KY) now, after like 20 years of crave! Only at one specific Krogers in Scott Co., wtf.

If anybody wants Ale81 (super sugary soda), I am yr mang.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

Cheerwine is delishuuuus.

What's Ale81 taste like?

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone up for some fantastic salsa, tamales, or other Texas delights?

patita (patita), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

I'll keep my eyes out for distinctly New Hampshirean junk food -- there's plenty to choose from.

Ale81 is really good -- gingerish, but I don't know if I'd call it a ginger ale.

Anyone got Buffalo Rock Southern Spice ginger ale by them? Perfect mixer for Campari or certain rums.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

Oh p.s. if anyone wants BBQ sauce I am also your girl.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

I live in Chicago but am from Delaware and will be there in a couple weeks, so I will gladly share a delicious block of Rappa Scrapple, Delaware's contribution to world cuisine. I know it sounds gross, but everyone I've ever convinced to try it has really liked it.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, speaking of BBQ sauce, I can get this stuff, which is pretty killer:

http://www.atasteofkentucky.com/product/images/Food/fsms18.jpg

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, I can get sriracha here in Bumfuck, Missississississippi, so you'll have to come up with something more exotic.

What could I provide? Jim Dandy grits and good sorghum molasses come to mind.

Whitman Mayonnaise (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm, i suppose we have regional food in australia, but i don't know what. Anyone want any... Tim Tams, vegemite, do they do kangaroo jerky?

miele kitty (miele), Thursday, 27 July 2006 03:05 (nineteen years ago)

Don't forget Violet Crumble, musk sticks, and burger rings.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 July 2006 03:08 (nineteen years ago)

This is the thread wot reminds me I never did get those chilli-choc TimTams for Tep. Argh. I dont know if they still make them now! I R fule.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 July 2006 03:13 (nineteen years ago)

O but burger rings and violet crumbles, thats easy.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 July 2006 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, I can get sriracha here in Bumfuck, Missississississippi, so you'll have to come up with something more exotic.

The peoples overseas know not of this bounty, though, and they must be supplied. Complainers like yourself get Heinz. (Alternately, something else.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 July 2006 04:22 (nineteen years ago)

They'd only melt right now, Trayce :/ That's the problem with this Aus-US food exchange possibility! Twice as much hot.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yes. pooey.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

Burger rings would be fine! They'd probably get pulverised into tasty burger flavoured powder though.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:09 (nineteen years ago)

...which would be a smashing crumb topping for a bake now I think about it, hrrm.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:10 (nineteen years ago)

i really want to do this, esp with tep, but im not sure what alberta can provide: bison jerky, saskatoon berry products, various odd potato chip flavours, buckwheat honey, garlic sausage, root veggies...

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:10 (nineteen years ago)

i want cider, lots and lots of fresh cider, and chokecherry wine, pluse moxie, i love fruit cake, and would love me some of teps, but i have had the two best fruitcakes in the world, and i wouldnt want to disappoint him (grandmothers adn the monks of bardstown) i also love me the sodie pop, and would kill for some of the mexican varities, cel ray, moxie, vernons, fanta (i fucking miss fanta, my heart aches for english soda) adn anything mentinoned by steve almond.

(saskatoon is like a tart blueberry, i love it...garlic sausage is keilbasa, ukranian food (hand made perogies too)

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

and tim tams

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

I wish shipping soft fruit were not such a colossal pain in the ass, because I'd kill for sour cherries (my ex already played around with this, infeasible), cloudberries, and huckleberries. The blueberries aren't even in here yet, and I'm not sure where to find the fox grapes now that I'm not a little kid anymore.

I can definitely do Moxie, Anthony! And fruitcake too, though it can't compete with a grandmother's when hers is good.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:18 (nineteen years ago)

i notice you dont mention the monks.

so why dont i send you some mundare sasuage, a bottle of syrup, a bottle of jam, and my first born

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 27 July 2006 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

Craving Cherry Ripes now.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 27 July 2006 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

Is one allowed to send meats into the US by post I didn't think you were. I can think of some fine bacon, pork pies and some good British cheeses that would be good. Plus everyone should have some anatolian breakfast, onion marmalade and gentleman's relish.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 27 July 2006 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder how the fine folks at ohmaha steaks do it?

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

I think there's only an issue with crossing national boundaries. We won't allow US beef into Europe because it contains higher than what Europe deems is a safe quantity of Bovine Growth hormones. there are always notices up in the arrivals halls of both the US and the UK about bringing meat in.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

I've bought smoked salmon and haggis through the post no problem though, but in this country and by next day delivery as well.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 27 July 2006 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

sending food is always funny but i guess the poor bit of meat will just have to hope to dodge the state-of-the-art meat detection systems they have through customs!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 27 July 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

You have Tim Tams in Saskatoon???

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Thursday, 27 July 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

so, how is this being organized, if at all? behind-the-scene emailing? ? ??? ?? ????

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

australians, you cant imagine how long its been since i last ate a mars bar. I NEED LOVE.

ps american chocolate is rank. they put wax in it, people. WAX!!

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

that's what i'm sayin'! i love love love japanese chocolate.

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

im getting you a mars bar

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

ummm for xmas, i guess (next trip to aust.)

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

most excellent (hi, it's finally raining!)

ai lien (kold_krush), Thursday, 27 July 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

i just realized! windowless office.

i wonder if they still make those chewy fudge tim tams. Everything Australian doesnt stock them anymore.

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

i notice you dont mention the monks.

so why dont i send you some mundare sasuage, a bottle of syrup, a bottle of jam, and my first born

Ha! Well, I can't promise it'll compare to the monks', either, they've been at it longer than me. Mostly what I have on my side is good ingredients, which I think is the problem with a lot of fruitcakes that wind up as doorstops.

What's mundare sausage?

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

I kept reading that as mundane sausage and thinking, "Why bother?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah sunny they had a whole slew of weirdy timtams for a while - fudge, black forest, and chilli. I meant to buy and try them all but never did, and now I dont know if they are making them at all :( They still do the dark chocolate ones though mmm.

You can't buy Mars bars in the US? I thought they were a sort of worldwide choc, I know the UK has them. Trying to think what else is very Aussieish - maybe things like, I dunno, Paddle Pops but you couldnt exactly send those in the post.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

i would like some enchiladas suizas from javier's at laguna beach. or from javier's at irvine.

estela (estela), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:28 (nineteen years ago)

Mars Bar abroad -> similar to US Milky Way; nougat/caramel. It's a chocolate nougat, isn't it? I haven't had one in a while.

US Mars Bar -> originally a nougat-heavy bar with a little caramel and whole almonds; distinctly different sort of nougat from 3 Musketeers/Snickers/Milky Way. Recently rebranded to Snickers Almond, eventually changed entirely.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah what we call a milky way is just the whipped nougat covered in choc - the Mars bar is similar but with the caramel layer, and the nougat is a little heavier than in the milky way (I think).

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

Man I used to LIVE on marsbars and Life Savers, until I got braces on my teeth at 14 - stopped dead, and now I never eat sweets.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

i would like some enchiladas suizas from javier's at laguna beach. or from javier's at irvine.

Hmmm, the trick would be keeping them warm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:44 (nineteen years ago)

I miss US Mars bars :/ But that's a whole nother thread, a thread about Pepsi Blue, 7-Up Gold, Mars bars, caramel Jolly Ranchers, and me.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

i can prolly get some korean stuff when i go home to visit my parents...

i wish supermoleman was real.

estela (estela), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:01 (nineteen years ago)

My favorite candy/chocolate bar is Nutrageous, which I'm guessing is available everywhere. But as far as exchanges go, I can procure Mexican candies and some of my favorite sodas, including Big Red (diet for those who wish), which isn't available everywhere IIRC. Though someone's going to have to tell me how sodas can be shipped without any problem. Oh yes, and I have been very curious about Moxie for a very long time. Apparently it's supposed to taste like TaB, which would be a great thing as that's one of my favorite sodas.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

Oh gosh, it doesn't taste a thing like Tab.

If you want a preview of Moxie, put a healthy amount of cocktail bitters -- Peychaud's preferably -- in a Coke. It's basically a gentian root beer, so to come close you need enough bitters (which are in this case gentian-based) to overpower the cola elements.

One of the nice things about it is that that gentian bitterness covers up the aftertaste of the sugar substitute in Diet Moxie.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm a teetotaler. Please explain to me "cocktail bitters".

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

They're a potent non-potable: a cocktail ingredient ... well, technically THE cocktail ingredient, since a cocktail is classically a base liquor, bitters, sugar, and a minimum of other nonsense. They're a strong flavor extract, I guess you'd say, though they always have multiple -- often dozens -- of flavor components. There used to be hundreds of brands fitting into seven or eight main types, but vodka, diet Coke, and appletinis killed that -- mostly what you find now is Angostura and Peychaud's, which are both aromatic bitters.

The definining characteristic these days of bitters is that although they're alcoholic they aren't sold as alcohol -- which requires that the FDA deem them undrinkable on their own, too bitter for anyone to be able to stomach them enough to down a shot. It's like with vanilla extract -- mostly alcohol, but used in small amounts and unpleasant enough that they can sell it at the grocery store next to the cinnamon sugar.

Any bar will at least have Angostura, so if you were at a restaurant with a bar, you could ask for a Coke and bitters, heavy on the bitters, and sort of get a sense for Moxie. You'd be in the ballpark, at least.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder if anyone's ever tried a full glass of angostura as a dare? God, the thought turns my tum :(

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:38 (nineteen years ago)

Be right back.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:39 (nineteen years ago)

OH GOD TEP NO WHAT HATH I WROUGHT ETC

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:40 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, don't do that. It's like nutmeg learned to hate me.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:40 (nineteen years ago)

*laugh* a better explanation I couldnt fathom. Did it make yer mouth numb?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:42 (nineteen years ago)

That said, though, it's hardly mega-unpalatable, so the FDA's a bunch of wusses. It was like very strong nutmeg liquor with Campari-level bitterness, but without the sweetness. My mouth feels all Christmasy now, though.

Other bitters, though -- Unterberg -- have a secondary use as a hangover cure, stomachache cure, etc., when drunk straight. But it's not exactly good.

Okay, I need a cup of coffee or something, son of a bitch.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:44 (nineteen years ago)

Tep, the man who goes there so we don't have to.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:50 (nineteen years ago)

It was a little tingly-ish, yeah, like mouthwash without the mint. There was a lot of alcohol burn. That's the thing, it's not like they break out the premium spirits for bitters, I'm sure it's the same neutral grain spirits they use for flavor extracts and so on.

I have cleansed my palate with a sort of Sambuca old-fashioned variant. Fancy A Booze Parcel would be a whole nother thing.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 02:54 (nineteen years ago)

Tep: I think I'm going to have to lift my self-imposed ban on alcoholic anything temporarily, just so I can do this whole "Coke + cocktail bitters" thing right. Whether it be via a bar or at home. But I'm intrigued by the seeming comparion between bitters and nutmeg, as nutmeg is one of my favorite spices. Thanks for your help.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 28 July 2006 03:12 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, and I can't believe you did what you did. It sounds hardcore.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Friday, 28 July 2006 03:12 (nineteen years ago)

"Other bitters, though -- Unterberg -- have a secondary use as a hangover cure, stomachache cure, etc., when drunk straight. But it's not exactly good."

You are insane.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 28 July 2006 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

trayce, everything here is the kind of same but a little off. tep is right about the milky way have the same ingredigents as australian mars bars but somehow it doesnt taste anywhere near as good. there are also malt balls called 'whoppers' which you'd think would taste the same as malteasers but they really dont at all. australian milky ways = american 3 musketeers. they taste the same. remember when the mars bars got poisoned?

chilli tim tams? good lord.

i thought mars bars were owned by coca cola ie american. i guess not.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 28 July 2006 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

I dont remember poisoned mars bars, crikey!

(did I just say "crikey"? Gah.)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

oh it was a nsw thing. someone trying to extort money said they had poisoned a bunch of mars bars distributed to stores in nsw. there was a huge recall and i think it turned out the extortionists were bullshitting and got no $$$$.

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 28 July 2006 03:40 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds like the ones that did the same with Panadol!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 July 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

Moxie sounds like italian soft drink Chino, which is totally fantastic. Brown, sticky and bitter.

Italians are, of course the kings of bitter drinks. Any bar will have a fair selection of stick bitter drinks, from the fruity Campari and Aperol, the Herbal ones like Ramzotti, light caramel ones and downright weird ones like Cynar (made with globe artichokes).

i keep a monster sized bag of fun size mars bars under my desk at work for snacks.

"Other bitters, though -- Unterberg -- have a secondary use as a hangover cure, stomachache cure, etc., when drunk straight. But it's not exactly good."

You are insane.

Because they're not good straight or because they can be drunk straight? I didn't invent em! I drink them with Coca-Cola and rye, usually.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 28 July 2006 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

hey guys, i've just created a mailbox for [email protected]. if y'all email that address with...

1. your name
2. your address
3. preference for a particular region to match with (or don't care)
4. vegan/veggie/allergies
5. approx money willing to spend (check postage amounts!)

and i'll try and match you all up. i hope to match everyone as diversely as i can but it will all be down to whether there's enough diversity to start with obv :)

moving forwards, after this initial round i might put the information (sans address) on a kind of directory on my website and then you can basically all hook up with each other as you see fit? (i need to practice my php skeeelz :))

how does that sound?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 July 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

by the way! just thought of this - if any of you fancy doing potentially more than one exchange it'd probably help too!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

mention it in the email if you do.

Tep -- because they can be drunk straight and are yummy indeed.

not yet ed i only have 3 names so far! (none from you yet).. if you want i can fix you up with someone just now so you can send your stuff?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 July 2006 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

I sent you stuff last week, let me check my outbox. Maybe I am SPAM, let me do it again.

Ed (dali), Monday, 31 July 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

oh yes ed you were SPAM! found you now!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 July 2006 07:44 (nineteen years ago)

OK I've made the first match (early because ed is sending his early).

I have 3 unmatched names so far, all in the USA - i think i want to wait til there are more people from out of usa before doing the match to make it more interesting? does that make sense (although i guess different areas of the US are quite diverse anyway)?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

When sending food to the US, unless it is home made you have to send prior notice to the FDA and get a number, here:

huh, I've had folks send food before and never got a number from the FDA. usually it's just packaged stuff like chocolate, etc.

yeah i've gotten stuff from a friend in germany a few times with no special action taken on the package. maybe this is something the fda would like you to do, but doesn't really enforce?

i don't imagine they have sniffer dogs inspecting every package for undeclared biscuits.

i used to send with fedex and they make you declare all your stuff at the counter anyway.

4 USA addresses so far and nothing else (one of them prefers a USA based exchange anyway though yay!)

how to keep meat and other sundries fresh?

i'm willing to send tayto cheese and onion, and maybe barry's or lyon's tea. i'm not sure how sought after these items are, but that's more a reflection of ignorance than taste i think.
