I have momentarily pondered the idea of copying my entire CD collection and then selling the originals on ebay or amazon or something. Even if I only got a couple of quid each for them, that'd be like thousands of ££.

I run a bit of a sideline selling books on amazon - it's very easy to do, and I make a couple of hundred extra quid a month for not much effort. I love books, and it's just fun to trade in them.

You just go to amazon, search their site for the book (or in your case, the CD) you have to sell, and click on the "sell yours here" button. You then list yours, and away you go. The first time you sign up, you give amazon details of what bank you want them to send your payments to, and they just transfer the dosh straight into your account every month. They take their cut of course, but they pay you postage for the items so it's swings and roundabouts really.

i think people are upset because the build up of the thread title "THERE IS SO MUCH GREAT STUFF COMING OUT IN NOVEMBER AND I AM BROKE" promising loads of must-buy items that you would want to buy even if you have very little money, and was let down by the frankly underwhelming list of items that, well, many may think twice before buying even when solvent.

i do, but i like to buy TV serieseses rather than movies. i'll watch them more than once. This is mainly because I don't have access to that much television and even if I did, I'd never remember to tune in every week to watch a particular show. I like to work through a series in my own time. I think with certain comedy DVDs I can appreciate them differently depending on with who I'm watching them.

DL, I agree eBay is too much work, but I was selling CDs on Amazon from Oct. '04 until just recently and it's the easiest thing in the world. 442 sales, average return $17/sale (less postage and packaging). Unfortunately, one of the reasons I'm quitting is because the bottom seems to be dropping out for sellers.

try redefining your TEMP system variable to point to somewhere on your emtpy drive rather than c:\winnt\TEMP (or whatever the default is)

the other thing with BT* is that it'll create dummy files of the right size to download into, reserving / wasting the space immediately.

maybe the temp file is being created on C: and it only moves it to D: when saving? I don't use bittorrent tho' can't be arsed.

Amazon Used is SOOO easy DL. I appreciate it takes a couple of hours fiddling (maybe) to set it up (then wait for the postal verification) but I've sold on tons of crap via it. Occasionally even made profit!

p.s. have you heard Ys? I'd not advise buying blind on that one, I'm still wondering whether to delete the fucker personally :P

with VHS ownership it was more about building up a film collection in the same way you would build a music collection. obviously this continues and has probably expanded with DVD and if you love film as much as one might love music you're going to want to own the material - seems reasonable enough (there's an implication that generally a favourite film might not be watched as often as a favourite album might be listened to but can't be arsed to speculate too much about that - although i do wonder if there's a film i've seen more than 10 times in my life personally).

how much is a DVDR/HardDisk recorder these days? and do they work well? i still think of them as being in the 'new tech' category i.e. buggy as hell and hard to use/lack good features.

like CDRs in the early days when you'd waste 20 blank CDs before making a working one.
