I actually have two friends who were brought up in a cult - the same cult! One of them, in particular, has an almost medieval cosmology. She sees angels, she sees devils, every day, all because of her upbringing. She works in a fetish shop - chalk another one up for Freud!

The other one didn't listen to music between about 1982-1987, because her cult banned music! Of course, she became a singer in the end - with a real lacuna in her musical knowledge, corresponding to 1982-1987.

Trial for policeman on booze-bus bribery charge

AN OFF-DUTY Victorian policeman nabbed at a booze bus site for drink driving has been committed to stand trial for trying to bribe a colleague into blowing into the breathalyser for him.

Melbourne Magistrates Court was told yesterday that Senior Constable Michael Phillip Burge also tried to get several other police to blow into the device after he was intercepted last year.

Magistrate Maurice Gurvich heard that just before 2am on July 22, Burge was driving his Toyota LandCruiser along the Nepean Highway at Elsternwick when he was stopped by police.

Burge, 41, a policeman for 21 years, allegedly asked probationary Constable Amy Virgona to "Just let me go through, I'm in the job", but she refused.

After he recorded a positive reading, Senior Constable Karen McCulloch asked him where he was stationed.

Burge replied: "Caulfield. Can you help me with this?"

She refused, then ordered Constable Virgona to take Burge into the bus for a second test.

The court heard that Burge asked to speak to a more senior officer. When acting Sergeant Julian Szycman was pointed out, Burge allegedly asked: "Don't suppose I could get you to blow into the machine for me?"

When he refused, Burge allegedly became agitated and, at one stage, left the bus to ask two other policemen nearby if they would blow into the machine. Both declined.

He then allegedly told Senior Constable McCulloch that he had been looking for a way out of the police force anyway.

"I was going to buy a pub in 12 months. Looks like that's f---ed now cos I probably won't get my super," he allegedly said.

"I've run from (booze) buses heaps, I've even run through paddocks to get away. Ah well, took you 20 f---ing years to catch me."

The court heard Burge called Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon a "fat moll" during the half hour it took to process him.

Then, moments before Burge blew into the breathalyser, he put his arm around Senior Constable McCulloch and said: "I don't suppose you could do this for me, mate?" When she declined, he whispered in her ear: "If I gave you $1000 would you blow into it for me?"

After an initial roadside reading of .091, Burge recorded a reading of .132 inside the bus.

He was charged with drink driving and was later interviewed and charged with attempted bribery and two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Burge, a trainer of young officers in the field, was suspended from duty in December.

Mr Gurvich committed him to stand trial in the County Court for attempted bribery. Burge has pleaded not guilty.

His licence was suspended for 13 months. He was fined $500.

Maybe you should get a professional to look over your CV and things Estie. Usually if youre not getting ANY interviews something's amiss. It can be the simplest things too, like lots of typos or a lack of focus on the CV. Its all about playing the game, esp in corporate jobs. There's a certain wank to it you gotta play at. It sucks, and it is wrong, but thats how it is.

R never got interviewed as she's basically been an art bum all her life. We beefed up R's resume to the point where she's almost always interviewed, and one of the first questions they ask is 'We're worried you're overqualified'. It's simple stuff like, instead of being in a band, she's a tour and events manager etc etc.

i was in the UK..

i didn't go that great, really - spent the first week-and-a-bit quite unwell, bad migraine, stomach upset, jet lagged to buggery and beyond. but the second week was a bit better, managed to see glasgow for a couple of days, had a nice FAP with a handful of london types (Dr C in particular was a very entertaining and charismatic fellow).

all in all though it's difficult to say i had a good time. i did get to see the black books store though. it seems to be in the quietest street in london.

didn't see ANY live music there :(
