I just ordered two large pizzas online from Papa John's because it wasn't appreciably greater in price than ordering the one extra-large three-topping special INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYS

One of them has mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni.
The other has pineapple and ham.

I only have three beers.

What movie or tv show am I going to watch tonight?

ian, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:45 (seventeen years ago)

those are good pizzas

mookieproof, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)

though i probably prefer pineapple with pepperoni rather than ham

mookieproof, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

no pineapple on pizza pls

STINKING CORPSE (cozwn), Monday, 29 September 2008 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

papa john's is like eating a sponge w/ cheese on it imo

lil yawne (harbl), Monday, 29 September 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

you should have gotten more beers, duh

mookieproof, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

but what movies do you have, i will pick a good one

lil yawne (harbl), Monday, 29 September 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

I am sort of ashamed for ordering pizza online when I live in a city with so many great local pizza restaurants. The ones nearby are kind of mediocre, though.

It's true about I should have gotten more beers. They are relatively high ABV, but I still think I will be left wanting more by 9:30 or 10.

I might watch Pootietang or From Hell, or one of the later planet of the apes movies. I watched Twin Peaks all day.

ian, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

are you going going to utilize the "dipping sauce"

Jordan, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

pootietang!!!

lil yawne (harbl), Monday, 29 September 2008 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

that's what i would pick anyway

lil yawne (harbl), Monday, 29 September 2008 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

I probably will utilize the dipping sauce.
Last time they gave me ranch instead of the usual garlic butter stuff, but I used it anyway. It was... better than expected.

ian, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

a city with so many great local pizza restaurants

Is this really really true, though? I feel like a lot of neighborhoods are so packed with crummy $1 corner-slice places that there's no room left for the decent local-pizzeria places.

nabisco, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:55 (seventeen years ago)

the garlic butter sauce makes me feel like i've given up on life

Jordan, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:56 (seventeen years ago)

The average pizza in NYC is probably better than the average pizza in most cities.
Even if the pizza around the corner from my apartment is not, say, Grimaldis or Difara or whatever, it's still better than the typical non-chain place where I grew up.

ian, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

Hello.

In my experience the best cheap corner shop pizza can be found in New York City. I think the best pizza places in the United States can either be found in New York or Chicago, but the cheap locations in Chicago are a cut below the best in NYC.

Klaus Krück, Monday, 29 September 2008 23:58 (seventeen years ago)

how many slices will you eat

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

i would much rather have a crummy $1 corner slice than papa john's

Jordan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

I am gonna nom on some NY pizza tomorrow or know the reason why

maybe even tonight, I'm crazy like that

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

in fact I may stop by ian's and steal some of his while he's headed to the fridge for beer

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

i will probably eat 6 or 7 slices tonight and the rest tomorrow.

pootietang is not loading on my DVD player.

ian, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

certain schefters, virginia plains and ghost riders will probably disagree, but i was happier with my go-to pizza places in dc

i vote later apes, obv

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

i am going to watch the fabulous stains dvd and drink beer. i don't know yet what's for dinner.

thx, gonna change it soon though (xposts)

christian bailout (get bent), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

I had a fake blt @ teany (pretty good), will probably get "crummy $1 corner slice" i.e. food of the gods later

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

pj's is pretty shitty

Jordan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

jordan otm, when I see them in ny I wonder why the locals don't riot at the sight of them

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:06 (seventeen years ago)

who the hell besides crap chains still sells pizza for $1 a slice?

christian bailout (get bent), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:06 (seventeen years ago)

my crap slices are pretty $ these days

mookieproof, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

yeah but is pj's shitty enough to call it shitty pizza? that is the question. i haven't had it in awhile though.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

my favorite place out here (in a skeezy strip mall) charges $3 a slice! but i'll gladly pay it cuz it's quality pizza.

christian bailout (get bent), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

i thought we must have done a poll of the best shitty chain pizza but i can't find one

Jordan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

i'm thinking i want a real sandwich tonight -- something with good crusty bread and boar's head cold cuts.

christian bailout (get bent), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

for best shitty chain pizza PJ's is the least vomitous.

christian bailout (get bent), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:12 (seventeen years ago)

the places that charge you guys $2+ for slices give it to really handsome guys for a dollar, that's why we call them dollar slices

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

i am just saying, sometimes at my office we get pizza and sometimes it's fucking dominos and man it's fucking free pizza and you know what? i eat it and it is fucking delicious.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

i was looking around the staff kitchen for condiments just now and i couldn't find any mustard, but there was a packet of Border Sauce so i put that on my burger

Jordan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

these pizzas are pretty yummy.

ian, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

tbh I can't really understand making a distinction between domino's and papa john's - I'll eat a domino's pizza once in a while and enjoy the fuck out of it, pizza is delicious food eat some every day

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

enjoy it while you can ian I'm halfway there

J0hn D., Tuesday, 30 September 2008 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

my friend has a story about one of his favorite nights in college, where he and some friends went to a burger joint around closing and were allowed to come back and make their own burgers.

years later, that same place let somebody back to pour their own drink and they fell and cut themselves. one of those original bros is now the prosecuting attorney, and subpoenaed my friend to come testify against the place. ;_;

Jordan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 19:56 (seventeen years ago)

oh, lawd...wow...

at the beginning of the summer i was visiting a friend in the bay area, and we ended up going to this hardcore irish bar where us "lads" got put on duty moving kegs from the back of the establishment into the bar area.

i dunno why that seemed so redemptive, but it did...

how can a slice be as big as the whole pizza???

s1ocki, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, J. that's an amazing story...

the alleged punchline to my tale is that the irish bartender called a cab for us, which turned out to be some completely unlicensed sedan driven by a Chinese woman who a had negligible grasp on the English tongue, as well as braces on her teeth (was she even old enough to be legally driving?!) and also an empty baby seat in the back, which prompted the question "is there a missing baby somewhere in this equation??"

dell, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

how can a slice be as big as the whole pizza???

I'm assuming he's exaggerating... I mean, I went to get late-night slices the other night and the guy at this place was closing up and gave us obscenely large slices. Like, we ended up paying two bucks for the equivalent of more than three-quarters of a pie.

dell, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

Jordan, Tuesday, 30 September 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

we would get little ceasar's in high school because it was close to campus and so cheap (2 pizzas plus crazy bread for 9.99), and the slicing was always really off. you had to move quickly or you'd get stuck with one of the midget slices while someone else made off with half the pie.

i didn't know what a "stuffed" pizza was so when i asked the girl on the phone what the difference between the "Primavera" and the "Stuffed Veggie" were because the online menu showed they were the same price and had the same toppings, just listed in different orders, she read the menu back to me over the phone. So I rolled my eyes and ordered the stuffed and now i know what a stuffed pizza is: entirely unnecessary.

There is, perhaps like a Papa John’s pie itself, no excess of dignity here.

eight months pass...

since this is the de facto papa john's thread I figure I'll use it to ask: is anybody else enjoying the dénouement of Schnatter's career as much as I am? I don't even know what the properly profane epithet is for this twerp. I'm actually surprised he's not trying to dig the hole deeper and defend his racist garbage comments.

For me the real joy is seeing his name disappear from his obsequiously beloved Louisville.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 13 July 2018 23:03 (seven years ago)

there’s that but I want them to also rename the chain. And get better cheese.

El Tomboto, Friday, 13 July 2018 23:08 (seven years ago)

I'm glad i won't have to see the absolute wankstain on my tv ever again.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 13 July 2018 23:10 (seven years ago)

Ignorant

calstars, Saturday, 14 July 2018 00:55 (seven years ago)

it's incredible how much worse PJ's is (or was) than even, like, Domino's

rip van wanko, Saturday, 14 July 2018 02:20 (seven years ago)

Dominos and Costco pizza are much better than PJ. (confession: even while living in NYC I would still sometimes order Dominos. It got much much better.)

Yerac, Saturday, 14 July 2018 08:15 (seven years ago)

yes Dominos has made great strides. ive been on a Marcos kick myself. it's hard to imagine not being spoiled for pizza choices living in the USA

bye bye this Papa John evil motherfucker.

I am sad for Papa John that his financial situation might require him to stop halfway through his surgical transition into a burn victim with hastily-Sharpied eyebrows. I mean he's put so much work into it already.
