I need a consumer guide and I need it now!

Tom, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

aw come on tom it's all about the nintendo

geeta, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lets have some CRAZZZZZZZZY recommendations!!! So far we like CRAZY TAXI (wahey, another 'D' license) and Jack and Daxter (?) which reminds me a bit of Sam and Max (sadly not as good) which features a STOAT and perhaps 'echo' energy, which I call 'gecko' energy. SPIDERMAN however is absolutely rub, rubbest of the rub I might say. Next I want to rent BLOODY ROAR THREE from Blockbuster, fite fite fite!

Sarah, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta = OTM. TOM = not.

Alan T, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Geeta = OTM if she wants a redundant box in a couple of years time with only Nintendo in-house gamnes being manufactured for it, seeing the quality slip away like a willo-the-wisp. PS2 is the bollocks and has all the games developers slavering. Indeed the PS2 is worth buying for GTA3 alone, but ISS pro evolution is the best footy game I've ever played.

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i take issue with the word "game" being used so loosely. nintendo make games. "game" developers slavering over the PS2 make rubbish sports emulations

Alan T, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(um, i missed off the wink emoticon -- but i hope you could see it was there)

;-)

Alan T, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

does the nintendo have GTA3? no it don't and nor will it have Vice City.

My problem with Nintendo = far too cutesy cutesy cartoon stylee. Probably why you like it Alang ;o)

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

some of the excesses of cutesyness do annoy, i must admit. and one of the few gruesome games that's coming to the nintendo is Resident Evil which I have already explained at great length are APPALLINGLY designed.

Conversely, PIKMIN is adorably cute and is still a great game. Plus can you get ANY Zelda game on PS2 -- I think not. Oo, a game with the name like Vice City -- you can just tell that they spent all the development time on gameplay, structure, reward and plot, and not say... graphics of LADIES in a state of UNDRESS :-)

Alan T, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i will stop now. and take it to another thread if needs be. Tom wants recommended PS2 games

the cockfarmer

Alan T, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Vice city = next generation of GTA3, this time set in the 80's Miami, promises to be an absolute corker.

Zelda = meh.

I must admit the star wars game looked gorgeous on the game cube but the short play I had didn't really impress, mainly style over substance.

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you can of course get age of empires (iirc deffo one of those strategy games) for the PS2 Tom. What sort of thing are you looking for?

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not any more bloody sports games! Is there a PS2 equivalent to Super Monkey Ball/Pikim/Super Smash Melee etc etc? I bet there isn't. GROO. Fighting games!

Sarah, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Reason I bought the PS2:

1. I had a PS1 and games and I like the backwards compatability and DVD playing and CD playing and all that malarkey. Maybe the Nintendo does all that too, I don't know.

2. People I know have PS2s i.e. lots of games to borrow.

3. I wanted to play Jak and Daxter and Ape Escape II. Especially Ape Escape II. Jak and Daxter is brilliant.

Bad things about the PS2:

1. Too many sports simulations and hey-we're-badass games. I will probably end up checking out GTA3 but it doesnt make my mouth water.

So this thread is to ask about PS2 games that I would actually like. I like strategy/adventure/mentalist Japanese/funny arcadey stuff. I like football sims but need to know which are the best ones for someone not all that good at them. I like games which surprise me. I don't like games which try to be films. I don't like horror games. I don't like wanky cyberpunk stuff.

Tom, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sarah, you should get a gamecube, it has all the cutesy action you crave. Medal of Honour looks really good war-mongering stuff.

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Cabbage I want one so badly! However, I also want cd player that works/amp/speakers/working vcr/computer, so by the time I get round to a GameCube I'd be buying it from a retro fair/bootsale in 2525...

Sarah, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom, like I said, I'm pretty sure there is an Age of Empires game for the ps2, in terms of footy sims, Iss pro evo is the bollocks but is really really difficult to get more than proficient at.

We were playing a demo of Frequency the other day and that seemed good but rather frustrating.

Prisoner of War looks interesting in that it's a stealthy, escape from the guards kind of game, not a strict gung-ho fighting one.

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I need it to be easy but not a stupid goal-feasty thing - is that a contradiction in terms? Also footy management games - any good ones? PS1 games too since I don't have one and I doubt the extra capabilities hem hem of the new machine are much used.

Tom, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a rather good footy management one, LMA manager, very involved and you can shout at your players during the game too which is rather nice. I'd recommend it. Civilization ii on the ps1 was good. In fact I've got a shedload of ps1 games at home that I'll look through for you.

I take it driving games are out?

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Driving games are fine but I'm not great at them so I prefer the novelty ones or futuristic ones to the proper simulator ones.

Tom, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the new gran turismo concept has a cheaper release price than most and is a more basic, instantly accessible version of the big feller, plus you get to drive cool concept cars and outlandish racers. Mind you there's a new racer coming out called Auto Modellista which is Cel-shaded, and consequently looks rather spanky.

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and Sarah, if you want a pinball one I just spotted the Akira Psychoball game.

I have far too much time on my hands :O(

chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom FIFA 2003 For PS2 is a great Footie game. Also Medal of Honor Frontline is a fantastic WWII sim.

Chris, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

retro fair/bootsale in 2525

Sarah == vampiZor?

Graham, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I want a PS2 I want a PS2 I want a PS2 I want one.

I was going to buy one this week but I spent some of the vast sum required on CDs so I'll have to wait till next week.

ISS=best game ever on any console.

Ronan, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the story that nintendo only makes cutesy games doesnt go simply cos Shadowman = EV0LEST GAME EVAH. way more than Silent Hill

vic, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

PS2 search: SSX Tricky, Gran Turismo, GTA3, Ico.
PS2 destroy: dunno really, since the above are the only ones I've ever bothered to play.

Archel, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ssx tricky!!!

bc, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

drop everything and get gitaroo man

jack, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Only thread on ILx in agggeeeesss that has got me sat here fizzin' at the screen at Ronan an' chris.

Why do I get so angry at the PS2 fanboys? Why, oh why?

Irk the purist. [The pitt of my stomach is churning in anger - can you believe it? Totally rational.]

david h(0wie), Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Arrrghhhh... Rite.

Nintendo own games = magiXor. There has never been a Nintendo game below 8. Except Pokemon, but that has its exponents. What I want to see in a game:

Variety. Not repetition. Innovation. Intuitiveness. Fun. Good difficulty curve.

Do you see realism there? I.e. opp. of 'cutesy-ness'? Pikmin - possibly the most innovative game of the year so far. None less realistic but UTTERLY enthralling because it is an entirely NEW game concept. Albeit one which is grounded in Lemmings and RTSs but it is melded in such a way as to play new. Kinda like an RTS with Mario controls.

Runner-up Game of The Year Last Year: Super Monkey Ball. Y've been to the pictures, right? Y'll have seen this. Monkeys, in balls. Marble madness for the insane. Best difficulty arc since Goldeneye.

Best Football Game Ever = SWOS. For many reasons (the VAST library or teams, real names [I'm a whore, I know]) but the main one being its sheer difficulty of mastery. I have still not mastered it. In like a gazzillion years. Also the way the ball flows, the action and time scale, and amount of passes, tackles and red cards, and goals and speed are all EXACTLY proportionate to the size of the players. => Perfect.

And, Zelda, well simply the most innovative game since Mario 64! GTA3? Meh, meh, meh-mi-mi, meh!!!!

david h(0wie), Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Note: don't touch SSX tricky with a barge pole.) And from what yr sayin' Tom I don't think y'd like Advanced Physics Model 3, or Gran Turismo Look At All Wur Lovely Cars Shame We Cannae Spoil Em Cos We're Licence Hoors.

It is very anal. I like it. But you'd be better with Mario Kart :)

(Sarah, if I ever get lots of money I promise to buy you a gamecube. Or maybe just a GBA if you don't have one.) A SNES. In yr pocket!!!!!

david h(0wie), Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The SNES = the pinnacle of gaming.

david h(0wie), Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The SNES = the pinnacle of gaming.

give the man a cigar, he is absolutely correct

jack, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Choo Choo Rockets or whatever the hell that game was called, it was enthralling.

Ally, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are people not giving Tom the right answers? Do you all hate him or something?

Ico (for beautiful puzzle and heartstrings action), and Rez (for 10- minute shooting synesthesia action) are the answers.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew - I love you.

david h(0wie), Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I played a two minute demo of a game today called Project Zero and it was really reaslly scary, if you want Tom I'll lend you the demo disc. I reckon the game would be very very good played at night with the house lights off and the sound channeled through the stereo.

chris, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No need to thank me sir - just doing my job.

Rez and Ico are the most innovative titles, the ones which are more like the ones Sega/Nintendo are famous for. Which isn't that surprising for Rez, as it was a Dreamcast games first.

My support of the PlayStation stems from two things: the fact that my first addiction was Final Fantasy VII (and no other platform really supported RPGs as well), and the fact that it was, bluntly, cooler. But I always knew that The ill-fated Saturn/Dreamcast and the self- crippled N64 were the place to go for Gamer's Games (go on - feel the quality!), and that the PlayStation was the place for the stuff shoveled out for the masses. In a way the PS2 may have benefitted from the X-Box seizing this ground from them, and then realizing that just doing a shitload of sports/driving/shooting games isn't enough to keep a console afloat.

Two of the problems with the Gamecube (though I'll probably get myself one in the next year) is that it's relying almost totally on Nintendo games rather than third-party stuff, and that the games, to be honest, look like kids games. I know that Mario and Zelda are going to play like heaven (not very convinced about Metroid), but I get enough stick already without playing something that's in such bright primary colors.

I'm not much of a console fanatic, though I do get some pleasure from the fact that no-one's suggested that Tom buy an X-Box.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 30 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What are these games of which you speak, I have never seen them in Blockbuster so doubt they exist! The game that I want to get out from Blockbuster now = BLOODY ROAR THREE = ph33333344444r m33333! Hiii-YA! *special move*

Sarah, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

do not play games on it! watch buffy dvds!!

katie, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*gulps* Are you SPYING on me right now at this moment in time as I am browsing play.com for lots and lots of lovely ANIME (and perhaps some dvd buffy sets too HOOM HOOM)...

Sarah, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uncle Clive always has v funny games links on it. check out the link to "The Gamepire Strikes Back" etc

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BWAHAHA ph34rrrr my mind-melding wayZ0r starry! :):)

katie, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't really play console games any more, they either don't hold my interest for very long or FatNick can beat me in multiplayer, which does indeed suX0r. I'll just use this opportunity to say I really fucking hate all Mario games except Mario Kart 64.

(I shall now sit back and wait to be crucified by Nintendo zealots)

DG, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not keen on Mario games either - not Mario Kart, not Mario 64, none of the old platform games. Wait Donkey Kong! does that count? (Donkey Kong 64 by RARE = grebt, but no Mario IIRC)

Alan Trewartha, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DG - I hate you.

david h, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom - U&K as they say - a Medieval History game is being released soon - you're one of them folks, right? My girlfriend is and she doesn't like games but she says it looks the biscuits.

david h, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-b-but Mario does suX0r. Quite badly.

DG, Wednesday, 31 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

five months pass...
Hmm... Wasn't there a recent SIMS thread? I've heard of such a thing, but never seen it with my own eyes. I searched for SIMS and found a very short thread with about 3 posts just saying it was a total DUD game. But anyway, I bought it for PS2 never having played it before and I'm liking it.
So sue me.
And where's that thread?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

GT3, SSX, and hitman

Tweek, Monday, 20 January 2003 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

What I've done with the P2 in the past 24 hours...

Watched a P-Funk live concert DVD with Bootsy Collins & Sly Stone making appearances.

Played Tony Hawk 4 and unlocked the secret character Eddie...aka "the guy from the covers of all those Iron Maiden albums".

Watched my man Jimmy play Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and dropped my jaw at how thorough and amazing it is, as a game and almost a movie unto itself.

Played the Spiderman game that I certainly wouldn't consider rubbish. Hell, the tutorial alone was more exciting and fulfilling than most games/books/films I'm ever exposed to!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 January 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Any good comic book-isnpired games that I should know about? Is there an X-Men game? Daredevil?

Also recommend something good for someone (i.e. me) who really liked Metal Gear Solid (and that other secret agent game whose name escapes me) on the PS1.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

when am i going to see you again? i have a few games that you can have.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

including the most recent MGS for PS2.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

is there anything even as remotely interesting and fun as spyro the dragon that has been made specifically for ps2? because the spyro games were the only ones I really got addicted to, and i've had a ps2 for three years now and never touch it.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

when am i going to see you again? i have a few games that you can have.

I don't have a PS2! I've just wanted to buy one for ages now...and if you didn't keep leaving town...

Speaking of which...KYLE SELL ME YOUR PS2!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously. Unless you want to keep it of course.

Failing that...can I borrow it? ;)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Spyro (like Crash) was farmed out to other companies, and their PS2 incarnations are soulless husks. The people who made Spyro then made Ratchet & Clank, which is a platformy game with guns and a few other mini games (the skateboard one will look familiar). The Crash people made Jak & Daxter. They're both pretty great (and have produced sequels - the third in both series are coming this autumn).

Apart from that, not really. Under no circumstances purchase Haven.

Sly Cooper's pretty good, actually, but pretty short.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep the first Jak & Daxter and the 2nd Ratchet & Clank are especially great gun.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

short games are fine because I suck at games and never actually finish them anyway.

@d@m you can borrow my ps2 at some point. they only cost like $90 now don't they?

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

A Poem:
Gun = fun,
I am dum.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

they only cost like $90 now don't they?

Really? Maybe I'll buy one next month.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought that was Gamecubes that were so dirt cheap?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

On closer inspection, it appears that "like $90" is perhaps a bit of an exaggeration. Do Blockbusters rent them?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i was wrong, they're 180, but you can buy a used one off amazon for about 120, which isn't bad. better than the $350 they were when they were new!

the ps3 is coming out at the end of 2005, allegedly, and will apparently blow everyone's minds out of their tiny craniums.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't wait that long.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Must have games. Now.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

it simulates life minus work and pain

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

the one PS3 game is called BINGE, and consists of sitting being blown off constantly while someone injects you with heroin. An average game lasts 98 years.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

blockbuster rents consoles, yes.

I have jak and daxter and never played it. now there're two sequels and I feel so behind the times.

none of these games are as fun as my intellivision was when I was 11.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

There are probably only two or three people on this board old enough to have any clue as to what you are talking about.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god I can buy intellivision games for playstation2!

I fell down yesterday and thought I broke my hip, that's how fucking old I am.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Intellivision means masturbation, right?

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

It did in the 70s, at least.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean masturbation?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

But, to relevance.

Don't bother renting consoles -- it's cancerously overpriced.

MGS2 is awesome gaming experience. I've heard good things about the two Final Fantasies, though story-wise, FFX is ridiculous (MGS2 is to some degree as well, but SOLID SNAKE R00LZ).

Destroy: Beyond Good & Evil.

I thought it was the neXt-Box or whatever they're calling it and the new Nintendo out for 2005, PS3 2006, because MS and Nintendo both wanted to preempt Sony this time.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Destroy: Beyond Good & Evil.

! How can you destroy something so good (though admittedly not great)?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Beyond Good & Evil was fun in a "This isn't terribly hard, but it's funny and some of the ideas are good" kind of way. Also, it wasn't very long which makes it a nice finish-it-in-a-week kind of game, if you're into that once in a while.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

But name this super-spy PS1 game that I loved so well. There was at least a sequel. you were a spy, sometimes in a tux, called...Gabriel, I think.

It was EXCELLENT.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Got it...SYPHON FILTER!!!!!

Best game ever.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

BG&E: Tiresome sneaking, annoying Southern-farmer stereotype sidekick pig, precious design.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The pig was far less annoying than the other military asshat sidekick.

And yeah the sneaking was kinda tiresome at times.

I liked the design though... didn't think it was too precious, and I thought it was an interesting juxtaposition for a game with content that was downright horrific in places (humans being shipped in crates?!).

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I also thought it was a far better implementation of what Hideo Kojima has said his aim in Metal Gear Solid was: a game where violence wasn't as important as stealth. Everyone I know who played MGS played to kill. In BG&E, you're a photographer rather than a soldier.

Another short great game: Prince of Persia

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

PoP has maybe the best first twenty minutes of any game I've ever played. The rest is just afterglow. But it's astounding.

Destroy: Herdy Gerdy

Gregory Henry (Gregory Henry), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

what is PoP?

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

What they call soda in the midwest and northwest.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.pww.on.ca/shoppe2.jpg

haha

no, really, what is it? I want to play the best 20 minutes of any game ever, unless it's some boring first person shooter thing.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Better that than some twee gay platform game.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince of Persia

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince Of Persia.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

With MGS, it's a choice of violence/pacifism, and as us Paradise Lost nerds know, the choice is the thing. (E.g. just played MGS: Twin Snakes with intention of killing no/as few people as possible -- ended up with 8 fatalities.)

Whereas the forced pacifism in BG&E cheapens the notion of non-violence, since as far as game progress goes, is the same as violence because there's no alternative.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

BUT WHAT ABOUT COMICS GAMES, LEEE?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn you Leee, I liked BG&E. It had enough beatdown and enough non-beatdown to make me feel happy about each.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I painstakingly beat Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 without killing anybody... For every MG game I've played since my attitude has been more like "Fuck this sneakin' shit, I'm just gonna shoot the fucker."

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There are comics games?

(Most games based on preexisting texts/films/franchises typically suck, as a rule. So I've never played them, aside from the Capcom Vs. Marvel fighters.)

In MGS2 and MGS:TT, there is the M9 tranq gun which makes pacifism all the more easier! (BUT DOES IT CHEAPEN IT??)

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know why they can't get a decent comics game put together, the things would make so much money (I guess even the shitty ones make a lot of money, so they don't care?).

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I played MGS2, but the tranq gun was nowhere near as much fun as the ones that shoot real bullets. Given that ammo really wasn't much of a problem in that game, I found myself gravitating to the non-tranq weapons.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

That is because you likely used an American mindset, whereas I used Eastern/Buddhist philosophies when playing my video games. < /momus>

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Marvel vs Capcom count as a comics game? It's supposed to be quite good if you like 2-d punchups.

I remember hearing guardedly good things about the Spiderman games.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"...I found myself gravitating to the non-tranq weapons."

OH YES, THE BLOOD...

I love watching the guards' heads pop out blood like a cherry.

(That makes me sound awful doesn't it?)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I just bought a PS2 on Amazon (w/ Vice City, two controllers and a mem card) for $160. Everyone lend me games NOW!

Warning: I have had a lot of sugar and I feel like dancing.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a bunch of games you can borrow but they all suck

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml:

look me up! (ie, what are you doing tonight?)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

adam, get PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER THREE. asap!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, I needed to hear those words. better than Fifa?

Gygax, tonight I am driving around like a crazy person on assignment for JaXoN's mom. Then..sleep. Maybe we can do lunch early next week? I expect that you have THUG. is it good?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@m, get a mod chip!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds good, let me know!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

re: pro evo 3 + fifa

get BOTH, they're totally different but both great

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

a mod chip? what's that? Sounds British.

Speaking of which...do I need THE GETAWAY?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

caveat: I have never ever even played Vice City. What will it do to me?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Vice City will make you slam into motorcyclists while you're driving, and bludgeon hookers to death so you can take back your money.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

+ a mod chip allows you to play burned games.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

It's way way way more realistic than FIFA, I dunno, horses for courses, I can't even play FIFA these days but I haven't enjoyed a FIFA game since Road To The World Cup 1998 or something.

Pro Evolution is the one game that we always play, the grudge matches we have in it!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

bludgeon hookers to death so you can take back your money

Bludgeon, nothing. Shoot 'em.

Leee and his damn Eastern gaming style again...

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Ph34r my DRAGON STYLE.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Lee is such a mystical d00d.

+ a mod chip allows you to play burned games.

You don't mean...?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Road to the World Cup 1998 - was that one of those football games where there wasone spot on the pitch you caould ALWAYS score from?

I had the very first ISS, and I remember it being a bit arcade-style and unresponsive. Also - I am a geek for up to date squads and stats, etc.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh but I do!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Leee, next time you are in seattle we must roll out some games.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

haha yeah Adam, I RUINED Christmas that year cos my cousin had it and nobody else could seem to score the magical goal except me.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

are there mod chips that will allow you to copy ps2 games now? I put mod chips in my ps1 and a mod chip in my ps2 but it only allowed me to play my library of copied ps1 games. I thought that ps2 games were being written onto dvds and since I don't have a dvd burner, was out of luck.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

So far as I know, you just need a DVD burner and requisite copying software; what the mod chip does instead is allow you to "swap" discs during the PS2 bootup phase (i.e. initiating the system with a legit copy, then opening the tray to put in the burned game).

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

well that is no fun

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

How so?

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

swapping with a legit version requires the ownership of a legit version.

okay, the DMS3 will allow you to do backups without a swap (hello Blockbuster, hello new game collection) and also makes your ps2 a region free dvd player.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

b-b-but my ps2 is region free (?) for DVDs (HK, Japan, France, UK)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoops, didn't make myself clear; you just need any old legit game, then swap it in with any burned game you like. (It helps to have a large game to give you enough time to make the switch -- the one my friend uses is DOA.)

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

are you sure those aren't region 0 dvds? mine definitely won't play anything other than region 1. but mine is also several years old.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

They are various regions. My PS2 was bought the day they dropped to $199.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

well I paid more money for shit then. fuck you sony!

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 29 April 2004 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, let's play a fun game. Everyone who knows this stuff, do a top 5 or 10 PS2 games that everyone should own. Go!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Vice City
Tony Hawk ProSkater 4
Hot Shots Golf 3
Brian Lara Pro Cricket
Parrapa The Rapper

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 30 April 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Brian Lara Pro Cricket

???

You are so the last person I would ever expect to rep a cricket game.

A good Tony Hawks game seems urgent and key.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

hehe, I put that one on just for you, tiger.

(ps: haha @ "tony hawks"!!!)

ronan otm! obv. I would say that.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 1 May 2004 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Pro Evolution Soccer 3
EYETOY
Tiger Woods Golf
Metal Gear Solid 2
Vice City

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 1 May 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

what on earth is EYETOY? I'm kind of hoping that it actually isn't an acronym, because that is a great name for a game.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

...and do people really like golf games? are they better or worse than bass fishing games?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 1 May 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i like Hot Shots much better than Tiger.

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 2 May 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I like golf games cos they have chirping birds and rustling in them. Also you can play them and change over to the TV for a minute or two after every shot. And have a nice glass of coke. (Are cricket games the same?)

I've not played Hot Shots though.

Eyetoy is like a mini camera you plug into the PS2 and then the games are stuff which involve you jumping around the room, or punching the air, or dancing. It's a total gimmick but for the first month it's the greatest thing ever.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 2 May 2004 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The Pro Evolution that Ronan is on about (and is totally right about, it's the best sports game ever) is called Winning Eleven 7 in the US. Fight Night 2004 is excellent as is Tiger Woods 2004.

adam (adam), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The Pro Evolution that Ronan is on about (and is totally right about, it's the best sports game ever) is called Winning Eleven 7 in the US

THANK YOU

I have been looking for it everywhere.

MY PS2 still hasn't arrived. :(

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I just bought lauren's on Tuesday. My thumbs are already sore.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What have you been playing?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

And do I need The Getaway?

And do platform games still exist? What are the good ones?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Search above for "ratchet"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The Getaway is a bit of fun, and has amusingly bad acting. If you get it cheap, as I think you can, I'd give it a go. I know alot of people didn't rate it but I found it enjoyable.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

So...my PS2 never arrived and I got a refund. But now I get to go out to Best Buy at lunch and buy one!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

No way, dudeman!

not gygax! (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax lent me THUG. I will play it tonight.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

TH4 is my fave, but the secret Kiss concert level on THUG is the best.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

not really. although double platinum was the first record i ever owned.

Do you like The Replacements?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i know a couple of their records inside out. but sure, like one of those bands that you know all the chords/words but haven't listened to over 10 years.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Gygax, THUG is great! I made a guy with a skullhead and eraser hair and gave him a superhero mask. Then I made him skate through all the porches and mess shit up. I sometimes wish the soundtrack had Minor Threat on it, though. I will probably end up buying this game.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha nice. What else did you play?!?!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

so who's played singstar???? is it any good!?????

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I played Vice City, MGS and Fifa 2004. I began to realize that I do not have enough free time for a Playstation 2, so I may train myself to get less sleep.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been realizing that you have to specifically schedule time for video games. This is why I have next week off.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! Yes, I see this now!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 27 May 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

late at night is the best time to play them, though you run the risk of missing porn on channel 4.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

i recommend all the really bloody mindless stuff, it's good for you, i think?

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

like??

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

xpost joek!!

srsly tho, i recommend shadow of the colossus. and i haven't played it yet but its precursor, ico, gets nothing but love too.

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

perhaps i should get a good old button-mashing FITING game?

xpost what's it about/what do you do?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

shadow of the colossus is an adventure game, with only the bosses... making it more like a puzzle game, actually. you run around on this beautiful landscape looking for these huge monsters. like, 100x taller than you monsters. when you find them you have to clamber around all over them looking for their weak spots to bring them down. while they try to shake you off and smash you with stuff the size of trees. good music too!

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

ooh

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

it sounds almost... original

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

the irritating thing for me is not knowing any good independent game shops to get these things from. i really don't want to give virgin any money.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

eBay 2nd hand is the way to go. You'll pick up classics for buttons.

onimo, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Bloody Roar Three???

Never ended up renting that one for some reason :)

Typical EDGE reader answer here but you should totally get Rez (and I second Ico, I only played Tom's copy once or twice for some reason but it was so wooooa). Oh, and Soul Calibur (versions), and definitely the fantastic Ape Escape 2 (tho if you h8 monkeys and gadgets you mite not like it).

Game Focus on Goodge Street is good for cheap 2nd hand games, I get pretty much everything that I don't get online from there.

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

FITING on ps2 = tekken. zillions of characters. great moves. hilarious and beautiful ending movies. tekken tag was the last I played, no idea what the series is up to these days.

xpost soul calibur vs tekken FITE!

ledge, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

xposts yeah it's really beautiful and thrilling, i need to play that again.

the soul calibur games are well liked for the fiting i think.

i'm in love with gran turismo 4 right now but it's very fiddly and unrewarding at the early stages of the learning curve, which is kinda steep.

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

wow lots of xposts!

this is an unlearned response but soul calibur has SWORDS and stuff and a freaky bondage-y character, which has to be better than whatever tekken's got

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Tekken has a panda!

ledge, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Hehe Ledge I have only ever played Tekken in the ARCADES and was absolutely terrible so Soul Calibur has to win - so ridiculously OTT, I luvvit. Haha, I are jonesin' for an arcade visit now... ilx fancyabuttonbash???

(NB I bought a Gamecube and will be getting a Wii when they bother releasing any good games for it in the EU - ie Lego Star Wars 2 is AWESOME on the GC, if it's the same port on the PS2 I'd totally recommend it, haven't had so much fun with a game for yonks - shooty shooty dud levels aside, they're over fairly quickly)

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Guitar Hero is my most favorite thing ever. I don't really like fighting and killing so I'm not sure what other games I'd like. We also have Scarface (nah), Tony Hawk something or other (not bad) and Gun (nah).

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm, more retailer.... Cex on Rathbone Place is well dud, I am sure it used to be better :( Then again, it has loads of PS2 games so it could be good for those. Uninspiring DS selection and GC content is risible. AND they charge more for 2nd hand games than a whole bunch of other places...

There's a place in Camden, down towards Mornington Crescent that was quite good IIRC, haven't been there for a while though.

xpost: Guitar Hero, hmm, it's less classic than it should be - it can get extremely dull to watch if you don't heart the songs so it falls down as a party game. VERY fun to play, but I are riddim action sucker anyway.

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

Singstar is my most favourite thing ever, and even less videogame videogamey than Guitar Hero. And the best party game ever.

ledge, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

God of War is button mashing fun! ICO I found dull and gave up on. You're spot on about Katamari Damacy. Great game!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

Also if you have long periods of time GTA Vice City Stories is currently rocking my world.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeh! Singstar k-classic.

I have never really played a GTA outside of the PS1 top-down version (!) so meh. Am sure you could pick up a copy for 10p if you felt necessary. they'd have to PAY me 10p to play it etc etc...

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

Sarah makes me sad.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Guitar Hero, hmm, it's less classic than it should be - it can get extremely dull to watch if you don't heart the songs so it falls down as a party game.

are you serious? We don't like any of those songs but it's a blast to play in a group, passing the guitar around.

Singstar I think I'm kind of afraid of. . .

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

How does it work if you pass the guitar?! It goes so quickly that you'd miss things and never be able to get into the rhythm of it! The only song I seem to remember liking was PSYCHOBILLY FREAKOUT but that is prob only cos it was a really funny title.

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

You take turns, one song each, you know? Yeah I do like the Rev Horton Heat and the Stray Cat song. I'd say 80% of the stuff I've never heard of at all and I don't like metal anyway. . .

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

But some of the songs are so LONG! The Top Gear theme went on for so long it actually ENDED A PARTY we were at as everyone got so fed up they left!

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

what is Rez??

haha "Ape Escape" is great name for anything.

question: can these new-fangled PS2s be modded?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

What is the top gear theme? The only one that really annoys me with longness is message in a bottle.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

Rez is this amazingly boshing 'sensory overload' game inspired by synaesthisa - it's a bit hard to describe! It's named after the Underworld song.

Haha Sam I have no idea what the Top Gear music is actually called :)

Yeh tracer you can mod the PS2s somehow but don't ask me!

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

That game is incredible, but I didn't know it was named after the Underworld song! That makes me even more excited to play it again.

Will M., Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Do not buy any of the Prince of Perisas! They are really boring and long! I am in a real minority here, I know.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

what are some other games that don't involve a lot of fighting?

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

top gear = "the chain", fleetwood mac
tracer you can play backups without opening up the ps2 with these http://www.swapmagic3.com/
what kind of games do you like?

zappi, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

hang on, its not the fleetwood mac tune. something else uses that?

zappi, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

that's the f1 music

acrobat, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Grand Prix Formula 1 whatsit used to use the Chain.

Top Gear is the Allman Brothers, can't remember the title but it's a girl's name, iirc. Freebird's even longer though. Need to get Guitar Hero.

This thread's useful though, pretty much all I've played on my PS2 in 4 years is different versions of Gran Turismo, Pro Evo and GTA (haven't got either Stories games yet though). I picked up Time Splitters 2 the other day tho', a friend used to recommend it to me when I first got it, and it's the game they play in Shaun of the Dead. Haven't been bothered to try it yet though. I'm still playing Gran Turismo 4.

Bocken Social Scene, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Freya?

Freebird was so fun to play.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

what are some other games that don't involve a lot of fighting?

The crap ones. LOL. Oh I kill me, etc etc...

Simpsons Hit and Run was fun if a bit stressful.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure the types of games I would like would be crap to most true gamers. I'll have to check out the simpsons game. . .

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Nah I had to give up FPS and fighting games because they were doing my head in (no sleep etc). For PS2 though I can't really think of any strategy game that's not slavishly linear, sorry.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Have heard good things abt Timesplitters but not played it myself.

Have heard BAD things about the Prince of Persias so don't worry kev. It's a shame cos old 8 bit Prince of Persia = staggeringly grebt.

Oh, for just simple non-fitey FUN you can get a game which has a bundle of old Sonic the Hedgehog games so you can pretend yr PS2 is a megadrive and revisit all those glorious zones of your youth and grr @ Dr Robotnik (haha who you might know as EGGMAN haha)!

Otherwise the market is clogged with rubbidge licensed dross that would shame an Amiga in terms of graphics and design (COMIC SANS PPL WTF).

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

The Prince of Persias are grebt.

onimo, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

I can confirm that the game that Tom got the most play out of on his PS2 was LMA Manager but that says way more about him than the quality of the game I reckon :)

Sarah, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Omino is so not OTM but I believe that this has been discussed by us on ILG!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Need For Speed hot pursuit 2 was a lot of fun, the Underground ones are a tad lacking though

Simpsons Hit and Run was fun if a bit stressful

Oh hell aye

Ste, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

I gave in and googled, it's Jessica by the Allman Brothers (the Top Gear music on Guitar Hero)

xposts ahoy.

Bocken Social Scene, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

Many video games strike me as stressful. not sure how much worse a simpsons game could be. . .

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

The time constraints are a bitch. It's still such a buzz driving around Springfield though!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

I like NFSU2, though I still have issues with the rainy blurry night time "where the fuck is the corner?" thing.

onimo, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

gff, do you know the technique to get a LOT of money very early on in Gran Turismo 4? If not I'll type it out when I get home. It's well worth the small amount of effort required.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

yes there's too many time based missions on Hit and Run, otherwise it would be near perfect fun.

Ste, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

i know you can run a couple races over and over again that have high-value prize cars; special conditions: capri easy and the deutsche touring are the ones recommended elsewhere. but lately i've been playing by using only prize cars as much as possible so money hasn't been a problem, tbh

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

the driving missions are doing my fkn head in...

gff, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah it's the Capri race that I was referring to.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 18:58 (nineteen years ago)
