um, yeah, I still like Look Sharp, and I'm the Man, too. (Though I'd like them a lot more if Phil Lynott was singing. Though between Phil ripping off Van Morrison and Joe ripping off Graham Parker ripping off Van Morrison, Neudonym is proably right in that they were basically the same person.) And you know I've had it in the ear before anyway, just like Iggy says. (And I forgot all about that Calexico album, which I actually liked a lot when I listened to it, though I have no idea who they are, or whose dick and/or clit they remind me of. Possibly TATU's, though maybe not.)

The only 2003 release so far in my possession is Matthew Shipp's Equilibrium, although I neglected to note that Sterling had pegged it as "accessible" on the "Last X albums purchased" thread, on which point he seems to be correct, but I haven't yet decided whether or not I think that is a good thing (I was sort of hoping for the more "difficult" kind of improv that he does in live solo situations), but I haven't even listened to it through once yet, so it might still win me over. damn, I was gonna note that I don't enjoy it quite as much now that the novelty's worn off and the nastiness of the video concept (especially how smug he looks during the "OH! The damage is done" part) has started to drag on me. I definitely think Justified is a disappointment overall, but Ned just had to go and destroy every impulse to dis J. Tim (whose best work is still on "Celebrity").

Hey, how come no one's mentioned 50 Cent? OK, actually, I know why. Still, that's the only bona fide 2003 release I can remember getting so far (recent purchases having come largely from the used bins). And it is pretty damn dull. "In Da Club" is nice, of course, and I got the special bonus edition which has "Wanksta" tagged on the end, and the Em appearances are marginally worthwhile, but jeez -- I like to think that if I'd gotten shot nine times, I might have more to say about it.

Agreeing with Julio et al. about Matthew Shipp...I'm reviewing it, and can't find any sort of superlatives. Fine jazz album but we're all just kind of expecting more from him and he doesn't deliver this time.

Also agreeing with Swygart about Aereogramme. Can't wait to get my hands on this, as their first record was really amazing and great.

Yeah that's what I thought it was, my friend saw rolando last week and said he was terrible, bad mixing and just generally poor. D1 in Dublin seem to have some UR love connection or something going on though because Galaxy to Galaxy are meant to be doing a live set for them. Suburban Knight cancelled again on Saturday though, I was at Lu Cont thankfully.

no ronan, i am between jobs *coughs*. i don't have the same internet access i used to but i can get online most days. it's just difficult to get back into the flow when you've been away - ilx is like a serious relationship, it needs plenty of working on. i feel like a stranger here!

yeah I've hardly posted much on ILM lately anyway, it's been a bit quiet really. Lu Cont was stunning on Saturday, Cosmos, the LRD remixes, Depeche Mode, DJ Gregory, So Much Love To Give, night was helped by parents being away and bringing my friend who does the support dj gig back to my house afterwards to dj for us all. I may know quetzal but don't know I know it. did you ever hear that jaguar style Tomaz Vs Filterheadz track on Intec? I like it a bit, not as much as some folks I know or enough to justify it getting hammered out everywhere in Dublin but still.

Miranda it comes out 2/23 i think but it found its way to the net a couple of days ago. It's less "rock" than S. Strip, this time more like a retro-pop/jazz album (often Andy Williamsesque), but still wrapped in flourishes of feedback/noise/sound. Tons of production wizardry going on, chopped up voices and things. A

Wow this new Aereogramme is really different from their first one, I mean it's the same really, but better deeper more beautiful and kind of more ugly, not as much deathmetally but also less fragile. And lots of strings backing their shit up.
