jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 March 2003 06:43 (twenty-three years ago)

also: ground zero - consume red

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 March 2003 06:44 (twenty-three years ago)

that "one riddim" uk garage album that came out a while back

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 March 2003 06:46 (twenty-three years ago)

bulbous creation LP
thrist of the worm LP
marie and the atom EPs
terminals - first cd
mark acardipane cd of compiled stuff

your null fame (yournullfame), Saturday, 15 March 2003 06:47 (twenty-three years ago)

and the first 7" by 13.

your null fame (yournullfame), Saturday, 15 March 2003 06:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i have thirst of the worm but it'd take a lot for me to part with it.

i've had remarkable luck, i usually find what i'm looking for, which is just as well, because I obsess. The things on my "list" I don't have, i know where to find them, I just don't have the money.

That said: I sold my copy of Charalambides Market Square a few years ago as part of a vinyl bundle I unloaded and really, really regret it - it just went for $80 on ebay. Original copies of Simon Finn's Pass The Distance and Blind Joe Death would be nice, "Aphids in the Hall" 7" on Ralph Records, the Nigel Bunn lathe cut 7"...

About two years ago, for some inexplicable reason, I had a lot of trouble finding Christmas's Ultraprophets of Thee Psyckick Revolution LP! Eventually got it for $2 at a rad record shop in Oneonta, NY...but perhaps I've said too much...

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dolly mixture "remember this" 7"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Pitchfork - Saturn Outhouse

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:21 (twenty-three years ago)

anything by essential logic, ut, or the adverts

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Bigod 20 - "Like a Prayer"

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Slaughter Joe and the Modern Folk Quintet - the LP that's not All Around My Hobby Horse's Head, which I do have. I saw this once used but was kind of pricey for a cheap bastard like me.

Chinas Comidas - I remember hearing some of this band way back when and remember liking it a lot, but haven't seen anything by them in stores. My limited web searching of a year or two ago only turned up a single or two.

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I can burn you the Acardipane 2cd if you're interested in a trade, YNF--email me

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Justyn, an Essential Logic reissue is in the works

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:58 (twenty-three years ago)

FX Randomiz / Jan St. Werner (Dü) - Slow
Martyn Bates - Letters to a Scattered Family

ynf, i have the Acardipane comp (were there two versions; reference is often made to a 2xCD, but this is a single disc), and i'd part with it.

less eager to give up the Foul Play CD, Jess, but i might be persuaded.

summerslastsound (summerslastsound), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay - here's some. Clair Obscur "Santa Maria" 7", The Cravats "Gordon" 7", Geisterfahrer "Geisterfahrer" 7", Nada "Ti Stringiero" 7", Massimo Morante "Abbasso" and "Corpo a Corpo" LPs, The Sound "Physical World" EP, Second Layer "State of Emergency" 7", Klaus MitFoch 1st LP (I'm not sure what it's called).

tom (other one), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:11 (twenty-three years ago)

an Essential Logic reissue is in the works

this is the best news I've heard all week! (now how about that poly styrene solo album...)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, yeah. It's gonna be on Kill Rock Stars, the Essential Logic thing - maybe it's two discs? There's some ever-so-brief news at their website about it.

BTW, I can make you a copy of Ut's _In Gut's House_, if you want. E-mail & we'll talk turkey.

I'd post a list, but I don't wanna gum up the works.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh - I almost forgot the Cosmic Overdose "Observation Galen" 7", the Phillip Boa "Fiesta" CD single and the Arno greatest hits CD with the extra live CD included. There are hundreds of film-music LPs, but I won't get into those. I remember seeing the Poly Styrene solo album years ago, but I heard some of it and didn't like it. I should have bought it anyway, because maybe I would now, but how can you think like that?

tom (other one), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:17 (twenty-three years ago)

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I have the Scritti Politti records, but I can't part with them. I didn't know it was that hard to find a copy of "Yeti" on vinyl. I guess more people would be looking in the last ten years or so, though, so it could well be I'm mistaken. Where are you?

tom (other one), Saturday, 15 March 2003 08:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to get a copy of "The Long Hello Volume 1" on CD on Zomart records. I lent my copy out to someone who probably doesn't care for me very much anymore, and I don't think I'll be getting it back. I love this rekkid so much, that everytime I want to hear it, and remember that I don't have it anymore, I get really upset & fux0red off. HELP!!

I also would like to get hold of all of eleven shadows' rekkids, except for "caro mio ben"

Melissa W, email me w/a shipping address, somewhere I have a copy of "Krautrocksampler" that you can have if you want it.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Saturday, 15 March 2003 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody Beth: I do have it - I'm not really set up to burn things, but if you don't mind an imperfect / unretouched copy from vinyl, I would make one for you. I've never heard anyone say anything great about it before, but I have no idea why. I like it as much as "Plastic Letters".

The A&D LP is pretty mediocre, I think, nothing else is anywhere near as great as the single.

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 16 March 2003 01:12 (twenty-three years ago)

1. first Wildfang 12" single (not the second with "he's more american").
2. Felt's Creation years, though I'm pretty sure my hair isnt good enough for Lawrence.
3. The Stickle Men -- one album on Bobby J, a Texas label. Robodosing psych.
4. Neil Young Re*Ac*Tor

Anybody want to sell/trade/burn me a copy of Oiseaux 96-98 by Hrvatski?

JS Williams (js williams), Sunday, 16 March 2003 02:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Anything by DJ Screw. It used to be Liaisons Dangereuses and The Mover, but I picked up the reissue of the former and the new album by the latter (for $2!) last Sunday.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Sunday, 16 March 2003 02:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i got a ton of SCREW stuff off Kazaa. and you can still buy his mix cds online - they're cheap - under $10 if i remember - and all WELL WORTH IT

i'll cast my line again...

Move D 'Kunststoff'

Marble Sheep and the Run-Down Sun's Children 'Old from New Heads' or anything earlier.
L (that mysterious JP CD/7" that surfaced ever so briefly in '94 and never again)
any Inoyamaland CDs
Seventh Seal LP on Acme (knew i should have snagged this while the snagging was good. stupid! stupid! stupid!)

The new Turbonegro. Maybe not "many moons", maybe just a couple. But can't somebody help a Soulseek-less brother out?

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

'In Pittsburgh' - Loren Mazzacane Connors. I used to have the Dexter's Cigar CD reissue, but left it on a train, d'oh. It's far and away the best LMC alb I've heard, and have had no luck tracking down another copy.

What a wonderful place Hackney must be, where the local library has 'Consume Red'!! (Talking of 'Consume Red', there's apparently a remix alb for it, that I've never seen...)

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Ragga Twins album - the one with that one track that sampled Prince.

Please someone have it, and be willing to make me a copy!!

Nik (Nik), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Nik, I have the Ragga Twins album - Reggae Owes Me Money [I think this is the one tho' I haven't listened to it for a while] which I can copy for you if you like. Email me & we can sort it out.

DV - if you want a burn of the Palatine box, email me as well.

Bill E (bill_e), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't have re*ac*tor, got mashed potatoes

Your walking a mighty fine line there Dave Q. Thats about the only good moment from that album I can remeber.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

'In Pittsburgh' - Loren Mazzacane Connors. I used to have the Dexter's Cigar CD reissue, but left it on a train, d'oh. It's far and away the best LMC alb I've heard, and have had no luck tracking down another copy.

It's still available through Drag City. Dexter's Cigar catalogue.

Vic Funk, Sunday, 16 March 2003 22:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been looking for the Spatula "Radio Helmet" 7" casually for years and have had no luck. Showcase Showdown's "Fuck You Norway" 7". Anything by Yo ie: "Good Tidings" EP or _Charm World_ LP.

scott m (mcd), Sunday, 16 March 2003 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, that's the one Bill E!! Thanks!! email on its way to ya.

I've only ever saw it (The Ragga Twins) in my local public library, and then I lost the copy I made way back when.

And then the library got rid of all their good early 90s rap/ragga/ chart rave compliations stuff...

Okay, hope I'm not being greedy here, but I just thought of one more thing: the JAZZ SATELLITES compilation on Virgin that Kevin Martin compiled. I still kick myself for passing it up the one time I came across it used.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone have the Fresh Maggots reissue?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:38 (twenty-three years ago)

this has been a very productive thread!

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff - I have everything by Goblin, and many of the records that various members have played on (Agostino Marangolo is one of my favourite drummers!). There's far too much for me to burn it all, though (the members appeared on SO many of the major Italian pop artists' records from the 70's on, such as Antonello Venditti, Nada, Angelo Branduardi, Anna Oxa, Patty Pravo, Riccardo Cocciante, Pino Daniele, Paolo Conte, and Renato Zero), and many of the singles and LPs I have with the members as studio musicians are on LP or 45, but if you're interested in particular things, I could send you some.

tom (other), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:48 (twenty-three years ago)

did Claudio do any solo stuff? if so, is it any good?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:50 (twenty-three years ago)

The A&D LP is pretty mediocre, I think, nothing else is anywhere near as great as the single.

That's as maybe - a far better way of getting hold of "Uptown Top Rankin" (and loads of other amazing lovely reggae) is to seek out Soul Jazz's splendid 400% Dynamite comp. Er, maybe it's 300% on reflection, but still.

The third Shampoo record.

Arthur, I'm sure I've already offered you Shampoo's Closet once before, no? Gimme...oooh, two-and-a-bit months (it's geographically displeced right now) and I can burn it for you if that will suffice.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:56 (twenty-three years ago)

your null fame (yournullfame), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:01 (twenty-three years ago)

He's done a lot - most of his later things are, sadly, just horrible, including a version of "Carmina Burana" with a hip-hop-style beat, a version of the "X-Files" theme and a rap version (with Dr. Felix) of "Profondo Rosso". He wrote and performed on several decent late-70's and early-80's disco records - the ones that I like best are by "Easy Going", the first 2 of their LPs also have Walter Martino (if I can remember properly) and are great (I don't like Russell Russell's voice much, and he's the singer on the third one), the "Capricorn" record, and the first couple of Vivien Vee albums, including her hit "Give Me a Break". Most of his mid-80's records, like the "Kasso" ones, had a sound I don't like very much - I don't know if I can explain what it's like, except that most of it wouldn't sound out of place in a club scene of an early 80's buddy movie. I don't know if you've heard the "Evil Tracks" CD on RCA Italia, but it contains excerpts from 4 mid-late 80' s horror soundtracks. It's out of print, I think, but not so hard to find. What is your favourite thing you've heard by Goblin? What is it you like about them? Have you heard "Nonhosonno"?

tom (other one), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, I say the later things horrible but I buy them anyway, you know. I've avoided the "Daemonia" records, as he's done just too many similar things, and versions of the same songs, like "Suspiria" where he adds chords and completely ruins it.

tom (alternate), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:10 (twenty-three years ago)

(+ "are" in above post)

tom (alternate), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:11 (twenty-three years ago)

null - sounds good. mental note made.

tom - what i like about Goblin is that it;s hard to say what I like about them! The abrupt (but yet seamless) manner in which they go from ominous to funky, rockin' to jazz-themes...Suspiria and Zombi are my favorites, though i admit I only own about two others (deep red and some collection with lots of that stuff). Where else to go?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Cinevox has reissued many of their soundtracks - "Roller" is their second album (sort of) - it's not a soundtrack, but it's great, and many people think it's one of their best. I think they're all over the map, though, as you'd imagine from studio musicians. The recent Cinevox issues all (except "Roller") have extra music, but sometimes they don't edit it or master it very well, and occasionally they seem not to realize what the master tapes are, and whether they're really different recordings or just taken from a source a few generations down. I say that because I'm just obsessive enough to mind. If I had a hat, it would go off to them for putting them out at all, though, as I'm one of those people who would listen in the background of the movies and say "god-damn it" when I would hear a piece of music that wasn't on the albums. If you want to hear some crazy drumming, please listen to "Squadra Antigangsters", which is, I think, the last one before Claudio Simonetti left. You've already heard "Zombi", where Mr. Marangolo plays the bass line in the middle, and I thought that was pretty great. I love "Notturno", which is from 1983 or so - it's quite an elegant progressive/fusion/pop sound - I like Maurizio Guarini's keyboards a lot; they're quite different than Mr. Simonetti's. That one was pretty hard to find until it was re-issued - the reissue has an annoying digital click in it, but it's in one of the extra-tracks, so there's no getting around it unless you edit it out yourself and re-burn it. "Il Fantastico Viaggio del (?) Bagarozzo Mark" (forgive my lack of Italian grammar if I've gotten that wrong) is a more straight progressive-rock concept album with singing by Massimo Morante, if you want to hear that. I love it, but I'm a fan and don't care if anyone would say it's good or not. I think, aside from "Roller" and maybe "Patrick" (which is great!), you should prepare yourself to hear something that maybe won't sound like their reputation makes them out to - some people get disappointed when they get much past the Dario Argento scores. "Nonhosonno" is their latest one (they broke up again shortly afterwards), and I think it suffers a little because they maybe tried to make a "classic" Goblin album and did a couple of things that were too obvious (there's only one brief instance of Mr. Simonetti's regrettable digital piano sound, though, and otherwise I'd say he's firing on all cylinders again!). There are at least three pieces on it that I think are better than I could have hoped for and I listen to them over and over.

tom (other one), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:54 (twenty-three years ago)

hmm, lemme try again gaz

Arthur - I can't believe you just mentioned me and the 21st Century Girls in the same sentence, for shame...

Tell you what I *am* looking for, and you may just have it - Ludicrous Lollipops' "Talk"? Came out about '92 on 6" coloured vinyl as I recall, but I never bought it cos I'm a fule.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 21 March 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

So has anyone possibly got copies of the following they'd like to tade copies of:

Bobbi Humphrey - any of the 70's albums not currently reissued (flute in, dig dis etc)

Also any Universe Zero, Area of Jap Cafe Apres Midi comps.

tigerclawskank, Friday, 21 March 2003 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

And has anyone got the track "Man I'm Only Human" by the La's from the first 12" of There She Goes - I've got some of it on the end of a tape and its amazing.

tigerclawskank, Friday, 21 March 2003 12:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Does anyone know if the soundtrack to the 1968 movie Oliver! is going to be re-released or has a special edition coming out? I saw the movie when I was 8 and have loved it ever since, and recently wanted to get the soundtrack but noticed that nobody had it, so I'm thinking that with this year being the 35th anniversary, maybe there's a special edition coming out.
Thanks!

T. Weiss (Timmy), Saturday, 22 March 2003 18:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Colin - Thanks - I have both the LPs, though (not the cassette - I've never seen that). I love them; there were several copies of the first one ("Dada-Koko") around Winnipeg in the 80's - I've seen the second a few times, also. There was a pretty good progressive-music presence here back then, and I learned about so much wonderful music like Magma, Goblin, Cosmic Overdose, Sensations' Fix, Univers Zero, Clair Obscur, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Ilitch, Robert Rental, etc. from some great people who were really excited about it. I'm not sure why, but it doesn't feel the same today.

Bless you Gaz, I'll be in touch (I presume that is your real e-mail address?)

"Family Fodder (any)"

I got Savoir Faire from Amazon.co.uk recently.

"Durutti Column (any)"

I've got "Return Of" on CD and can burn that. Also a couple of rarities on Factory samplers etc.

"The Passage (any)"

I got Seedy from from Amazon.co.uk recently. As the venerable Dr. C. says, all their stuff is or should soon be available on CD.

"I'd like to add Liquid Liquid - s/t"

Is this unavailable again? I can certainly burn a copy of that if it isn't.

"I have A Fierce Pancake but only on LP - I'm not sure it was ever on CD."

Any chance of burning that one tigerclawskank? If not a tape would be much appreciated - please get in touch!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 24 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

brg30: if you've had no luck with the sun city girls drop me a line. a friend just lent such a thing to me.

esoj: have you got "can't be stopped?" is it still in print? can burn. only vinyl i have is vessels: makers of dead travel fast. i can do a transfer to cd, but no way i'll give you the vinyl. i also have the whirlywirld lp.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 09:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Of possible interest to someone upthread who is searching for a different magnetic fields 7"--Clamazon has a Japanese import Why I Cry 7" from 1995 (though the price is a little steep).

I can't afford what I want, but If anyone has burned copies of the new album by the Music Tapes (supposedly released only by ordering directly from the band unless it finally came out on Merge which I don't think it has yet), or the extremely limited vinyl of anything Volcano the Bear released recently on Beta Lactam Ring Records, I would enjoy a dub. I would also be interested in the concept album (self released, second album) and especially in the cd on Bulb records by the band, MATH. If you have any of this stuff, and are kindhearted, feel free to email me.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

gaz - i've got 'can't stop it' and it's still available as far as i know. interestingly enough i'm bidding on a copy of Vessels right now!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

My neighborhood store here has "No New York" the LP. $100. Anyone interested?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:52 (twenty-three years ago)

how much does it usually go for these days?

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think $100 is a little too much, personally. Also, if anyone outside Seattle wants me to pick it up for him/her, he/she should add sales tax (around 9%) plus shipping plus insurance...(nooooo WAY am I going to be responsible if the record "breaks" on delivery, after offering a favor!).

Honestly, I think the the final price would be VERY unreasonable.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 02:06 (twenty-three years ago)

gaz - are you talking about Vessels or NNY? the copy I was bidding on (and lost..) went for A$41 which is probably about right considering the increased interest in Oz P-P lately

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

$41? sell now Mr Lom? $100, sell now?

does anyone have a CD copy of the compilation The Trojan Story that they can either (a) sell to me or (b) copy onto cdr for me?

There are a few obscure singles on there I want to copy for someone but I only have them on cassette.

Amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 03:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Spacemen 3 - "Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To"
Opal - "Early Recordings" and "Happy Nightmare Baby" (on CD)

I'm all about trading CD-Rs for these - I got HNB on vinyl and it's blowing my mind. I've got a fairly diverse collection if there's anything you're looking for. Not a ton of really obscure stuff, some stuff that's out of print in the US, some local albums.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 05:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy Nightmare Baby is still in print on CD, and should be pretty easy to track down. Half.com has about half a dozen new and used copies available at the moment, all for around $15.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 06:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i've got Early Recordings shared on slsk - from a CD and encoded at 192 - and i'm on a fair bit so have a search for it there (username = electricsound)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 22 April 2003 09:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been looking for copies of:

Masami Tsuchiya: Rice Music (1982)
Akiko Yano: Ai Ga Nakuchane (1982)
Percy Jones: Cape Catastrophe (1989)
Mick Karn: Bestial Cluster (1992?)

-any Masami Tsuchiya and any '80s Akiko Yano really

oh oh oh I thought of some more:

Afghan Whigs - Uptown Avondale thing
Jack - Pioneer Soundtracks
Shampoo - (third album that I can't remember the name of, the one that St Etienne did, may have already been mentioned upthread)

Any suggestions as to where I can get hold of these would be equally great. Anything I can do in return, clearly, etc etc X.

Hip hop hurrah, I found Change Of Heart's Smile in a used cd store as I walked away from The Nils no show on Friday night. When I got to the subway some drunken kids were playing chicken on the subway tracks and on Saturday nearly got caught up in a rock throwing riot following a soccer tourniment. Pretty messed up weekend. But damm is this album good.

Could anyone shove the second Menswear album (which is only available at a hideously expensive import price) onto Soulseek. I wish to hear this leftover curio of Britpop since I discovered it's existence in 'The Last Party'.

For any other band, I'd pay a hideously expensive import price - but not Menswear, for fuck's sake.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 7 July 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like both Denim albums. CDR's would be fine. Back in Denim goes for over £50 on eBay, which is a bit too rich for me.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 7 July 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got 'Denim On Ice'. I'll swop it for 'Hey Tiempo!', as mentioned above.

Looks like there's a good deal on that over at http://www.gemm.com Jim, (Vic is Godard rather than Goddard which might help) but if you have no luck there, and you feel so inclined, drop me a mail.

So Arthur, shall we do this now? I can see my copy of Shampoo's Closet from here...

I have Denim On Ice on double vinyl if that's any help to anyone - can't really burn it but can easily minidiscify if necessary. Would like all other Denim except Novelty rock on MD/CD/wax cylinder...

SST never released this on CD, only LP and CS. I've seen used copies at Aron's (note: as recently 7-8 years ago). I remember this album getting some exposure at the time as Pavement were covering a song off of it ("Golden Boys").

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 July 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

That's very interesting, gygax! I was DJing at some garage rock thing at Coney Island High in New York in the early nineties and I played "Golden Boys". And Mark Ibold came up and asked me what the song was!

The Factory Records "Palatine" boxed set.

Now then, there seem to be various people after this. I'm pretty sure that as well as the 4-CD set, there was also a single-CD comp - can anyone confirm?

Also, Dr C aka daveatcrossdeep seems to pop up on ILM now and again claiming to have a copy of the box set...he puts it on playlists anyway.

Er, and...am I right in saying it's a compilation of Martin Hannett productions? Cos *that's* what i'm looking for. Help!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

M Specktor - I'm pretty sure I have a cd of Headz 2 kicking around somewhere, let me check and if I have I'll mail you later.

mzui, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i have all 4 palatine cds, though not as the box. i bought them all separately. the martin hannett compilation is called "here is the young man", although i think there's another entitled "martin"..

It's at home somewhere. Cath Carrol, Marcel King, Transmission I think, and James i think.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

**Also, Dr C aka daveatcrossdeep seems to pop up on ILM now and again claiming to have a copy of the box set...he puts it on playlists anyway.**

Does he now! Of course I do! As veteran wearer of the long-overcoat and ACR shorts (but not at the same time) I am required by law to own the Palatine box. I have the CD version, and as Tom says it is a wonderful thing. Slightly dodgy tracklisting (a few rare trax and b-sides would have been nice) and they could have squeezed more stuff onto each CD, but still one of my most treasured items. It wouldn't be truly Factory if it wasn't a bit of a f-ck up though, would it?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

norm- I've never seen a copy, and its out of print, so that's why I'm putting this request in.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I am looking for anything related to Hughie Izzachar or Levi Judah. Great early-eighties roots and dub. The album I have is by "Various Artists" but it seems to actually be a band comprising these two and another couple of guys. The album is called something like "Rastafari Volume 1 Vocal & Dub". I can find very little other than the odd mention if I search on Google. There are six tracks and six dubs to go with them. The tracks are:

Alpha Omega
Father Almighty
Here I Come
Jah Jah Is The King Of Kings
Tek Back Yuh Name

I can't remember the last one.
If anyone can tell me anything about this album or if there was ever a Volume 2, I would really appreciate it.

I don't know.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh dear, it seems not:

"Rhino briefly reissued Larry's recordings for the label in a limited-edition, Internet-only 2-CD set (which is now out of print), but it appears that An Evening With... will never make it to CD. Gail Zappa, who owns the rights to the album, has refused to reissue it, calling it "a poor example of Frank's work"."

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, "a poor example of Frank's work" = "shut up & play yer guitar"

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Dog Latin: Levi Judah was part of African Head Charge, wasn't he? You probably knew that already and that aside, I can be of no help. Sorry.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim, I didn't know that, thanks! If only I could find out the names of the other members - one of them was called Menelektafari or something. My mate bought the album for fifty pence in Camden and it's been a favourite at every gathering my friends have - but no-one knows anything about it.

Mail me if you want a copy Charlie.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, you might be right Julio, I am VERY selective w/r/t zappa rekkids. In the used record shop, when we had the play all used stock to make sure it works policy, "shut up and play yer guitar vol[something]" along w/a complete collection of kitaro rekkids were what actually made us abandon said policy.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

never heard of kitaro.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

A terrible japanese noise artist new age synthesiser player. The albums we got in (and had to play) sounded like the cosmic spacey intro to pink floyd's "shine on you crazy diamond", only unblievably cheezy & leaden. The snare drum sounded like someone hitting a box of rice crispies with a 12" ruler. It was awful.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and also 'In pitsburgh' by loren mazzacane connors.

i have this julio.

the records i want: animal collective jane cdrs. anyone??

toby- could you burn me a copy. what would you like in exchange?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"can anyone sort me out with 'an evening with wild man fischer'?"

I'm sure I've got it on tape somewhere if you're desperate Julio - Pashmina's right 'though, it is piss and only worth picking up for novelty value if very cheap.

Do you happen to remember an Alexei Sayle TV series a few years ago, for which the theme music was Alexei ranting "Come on let's merry go, merry go, merry go round" in a cracked, hysterical voice?

Well "An Evening With Wild Man Fischer" sounds just like that (not entirely surprising since that title music is an unnervingly accurate cover of the opening track / recurrent theme of the album) except that the album goes on for much, much much longer.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

If you can make me a copy of it on tape and you'd like something for it the that would be nice bcz some ppl think he's good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Regarding the Palatine box set, there were two Factory compilation CDs issued in the mid 90s called "Different colours, different shapes" and "Too young to know, too wild to care" which are both rather good, in that they combine the best bits of Palatine into two CDs and include some rather nice rarities (an unreleased Quando Quango track, "Deep sleep" by Red turn to, and - my particular favourite - "Smiling monarchs" by the Abercederians). Both can be picked up regularly in bargain bins these days.

"Martin" has a different track listing to "Here is the young man" too. Can't remember the differences off the top of my head though.

I've probably said this a thousand times now, but can ANYONE do me a CD-R of Win's first album? I had it many years ago, lent it to a college friend and never saw it again. PLEASE!!!

Rob M (Rob M), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

DL: one of Haile Selassie's sons was called Menelik Tafari, I think. Various reggae people use one or other of these names, making googling difficult.

Anyway I've had a bit of a poke around on google and I think the record you're after is probably this one, on Reggae On Top records: ROTLP/CD004 Various Artists Showcase-Rastafari Teachings (Part 1)/Vocals & Dub

This page has what seems to be a fairly complete discography of the label it's on, about three quarters of the way down: http://www.ukreggae.co.uk/centre_Reviews.htm

I don't recall seeing this LP but the black and white Pablo Gad one which is pictured on the page is one I see around quite a lot...

If I'm right it's available via http://www.action-records.co.uk/, just search on 'teachings'.

If I'm wrong, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Those Factory comps were on Factory Too. Agreed about Smiling Monarchs - it's fantastic and is exactly the sort of thing that should have been on Palatine.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

DL you'll be able to tell if I'm wasting your time by the piccies here: http://www.crystalsound.co.uk/records/cd_store2.htm

I have a bad feeling I've guessed wrong...

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

the version of "smiling monarchs" on that factory comp is terrible - it's obviously been remastered (and i use the term lightly) from vinyl and there's all these awful distortions about halfway in. the version on their AB-CD album is superior.

still any judee sill stuff anyone is offering, the feelies' first record, and the gang of four peel sessions. anyone?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 18 March 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

There are copies of Crazy Rhythms all over the internet...on eBay and on Gemm and on Half.com, and I'm sure a lot of other places. You can get a copy at half.com right now for $30 ($14 more than a new CD, more or less). There are several copies of the Gang of Four Peel sessions CD on Amazon.com (for about $34). I apologize if $64 is out of your price range (I realize that's true for some) but these aren't really that hard to find. $64=about 4 new CDs.

dlp9001, Thursday, 18 March 2004 01:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The Feelies records are out of PRINT! My god that's crazy, they were bargain CDs for so long. I wouldn't buy them, cozen. I'm sure they're being reissued with bonus tracks or something.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 18 March 2004 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It is ridiculous that the Feelies catalog is out of print -- kind of like when most of the VU catalog was unavailable at one point. The Good Earth was the first to go, as far as I know...people are asking close to $100 for the CD on Amazon. Makes $30 seem like a good deal. That Yung Wu album seriously needs a reissue as well.

dlp9001, Thursday, 18 March 2004 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Broheems, I forgot to email you about it, but THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the Destri CD. I like it a lot.

The Good Earth was the first to go, as far as I know...people are asking close to $100 for the CD on Amazon.

the heck?! i paid all of $5 for this CD, the store was apparently unable to give it away!

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

What, against their store policy or something?

jazz odysseus, Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

The Art of Noise's "That Was Close" cassette
Marva Whitney's "Tit for Tat (Ain't No Taking Back)" single
Anything at all by Officer!
The Fall's "Rude (All the Time)" single
Hasidic New Wave's "Giuliani Uber Alles" CD single
The Sebadoh/Big Stick split 7"
The LP whose name I don't know where one side is a duet between Han Bennink and a bird
Maximum Joy's "Silent Street" 12"
Nightblooms' "Go Eliza" 7" and live LP
The Mountain Goats' "On Juhu Beach" EP
Boredoms' "Super Roots 2" EP

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The LP whose name I don't know where one side is a duet between Han Bennink and a bird

There's a track that matches this description on The Ex & Guests Instant - though I don't think it would fill the side of an LP (actually I think Ab Baars plays on it too).

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the heck?! i paid all of $5 for this CD, the store was apparently unable to give it away!

that's about what i paid (years ago). i hope the feelies stuff is getting reissued; i've been bitching forever that crazy rhythms was in need of a remaster.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, btw, it turns out that Magma stuff wasn't that hard to find after all. So scratch my earlier request.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Cozen, you can get both Judee Sill records from Rhino Handmade or I could burn you a cd-r of the S/T.

Nik, if you're still looking for "Uptown Top Ranking" (whcih I doubt), I've got a copy.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 March 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

James - One Hand Clapping

I had this on vinyl and sold it for a small fortune, but I would like to have a cd or mp3 copy.

They were a great band once and a thrilling live act and this live album captured them just before they near-fatally imploded. They came back with Sit Down and were always a bit mediocre from that point on.

I'm looking for either CD-Rs or decent-quality mp3s (192 kbps or alt-preset standard VBR) of the entire Mindrockers 60's comp. I know I can track down a real copy, but it isn't the most important thing to me.

southern lights (southern lights), Friday, 19 March 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Douglas, I can burn you the "On Juhu Beach" if you want. I tried to buy multiples of this, but the guy never responded, so I just sent him $20 and he finally sent one. I think it's OOP now, for some reason.

is it possible you're actually thinking of the record where one side is a duet between misha mengelberg and a parrot (and the other side is a version of epistrophy by eric dolphy/menglberg/bennink/jacques schols).
sadly i don't have it.

Hi Alisa, I think it was somewhere between £40 & £50.

BTW the biggest shock I got when I when ebaying my vinyl was getting £80 for Mazzy Star's She Hangs Brightly. Make sure that you advertise it to the US too though. Apparently it's quite rare.

holojames (holojames), Friday, 19 March 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

None of these appear to have been reissued in any format at any time.

Re posts way way back in the thread:

Stump's 'A Fierce Pancake' was on CD once upon a time.

And I have Straitjacket Fits' 'Hail' on CD -- it's the U.S. version, which I think is different from the non-U.S. I'd be willing to burn it.

I'm looking for a 45 on Super K by Mark. "Good 'n' Plenty"/"It Could Set You Back a Year." Will pay absurd price for actual record, or can stand any sort of CD that has the A-side on it.
