Uhh, yousendit?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 May 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

that tracklisting looks beautiful but yeah, what Spencer said.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Saturday, 28 May 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

there is nothing in the world more horrible and hilarious then the vocals on Scotch's Penguin Invasion. I read they original version was instrumental and they added the vocals later.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 28 May 2005 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I only know the Cowley tracks by name.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 28 May 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

THAT IS WONDERFUL.

haha mercifully i haven't heard the vocal version of "penguin's invasion" (and i like scotch generally)

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 28 May 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

(have you tried searching for a vol. 1?)

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 28 May 2005 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"Starknight" def. sounds like it was done that way, too. The "loop-loop-louie-lou-owwwww" line in that always leaves me scratching my head.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Saturday, 28 May 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

(have you tried searching for a vol. 1?)

the hungarian claims its his friends private compilation, and no, there isnt a vol 1

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Saturday, 28 May 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i ll try and ysi it in parts

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Saturday, 28 May 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm pleased with myself for knowing about half of these. i'd love to hear the other half!

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

out in bittorrentland someone's put together several compilations of italodisco videos. one day i'll download them.

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to have a bunch of italo videos pre-HD crash. once again, scotch's "mirage" video needs to be seen to be believed

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I have Disco Band. They're in a hospital jerking around in their beds in time with the coughs in the song, and there's a fake rastafari. Bizarre.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i would like

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

you can stream both of them at http://disco80.ru (this must be the fifth time i've posted this link on ILX but i can't think of any website more valuable to humanity than this) (it's in russian but the link's about halfway down the page, not too hard to figure out)

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been to that site! i'm sure i've linked to it a bunch too.

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

this sounds FANTASTIC.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Can anyone who's fluent in italo-disco identify this track? It's from an 80's mixtape, and I have been wondering for YEARS who it is:

http://homepage.mac.com/msanthropic/.Public/italounkown.mp3

msanthropic, Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

look no further: I cant identify this rare 80s song!!!!

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I shall begin crying now.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for ysi-ing this stuff fe zaffe. much obliged.

Lingbertt, Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, fe zaffe -- thanks for the ID. I wouldn't have even recognized the lyrics if I had seen that thread (I've always called it "take me to the moon tomato".

msanthropic, Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

spacer woman is the best song ever. really it is.

t0dd swiss (immobilisme), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i found the thread by googling for "you smell like dynamite". we need an italo lyrics pov thread. xpost

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

tracks 11-20

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

really appreciate this, but unfortunately, the firsrt zip file isn't opening. i downloaded it twice and it keeps crashing my DropZip app. second one works though.

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 29 May 2005 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Both opened fine for me. Thanks a lot!

stephen morris (stephen morris), Sunday, 29 May 2005 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I think drop zip could be your problem.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 29 May 2005 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

80s Italo Disco POX

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 29 May 2005 06:43 (twenty-one years ago)

btw, played Bo Boss-Tequila tonight and got props for it...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 29 May 2005 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Living In The Shuttle - Torrevado

This is a must-have, if only for the hilarious "leeving een da shahtle" accent.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 29 May 2005 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

tracks 21-30

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

That first one doesn't open for me either :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Me neither. It keeps thinking it's finished downloading at 40 something MB. Tried it in IE, Firefox and Safari :(

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

nor for me.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

11-20 seems to be fine though. Woo!

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I read this as Italo Disco CDr of MF DOOM. I nearly died.

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

tracks 31-40

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Tracks 1-10 are blocked for me as well...

Niels Aalberts (Niels), Sunday, 29 May 2005 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I'm so in the mood for this. So great, and at a high bitrate too. Thanks so much for sharing it. If anyone who managed to get 1-10 could resendit that would be great.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Plastic Doll the vocal or instrumental version? The Instrumental is on the I-Robots comp but I've never seen an MP3 of the vocal, which is awesome.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 29 May 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I got 2 and 4 just fine, 1 and 3 were expired. Thanks for putting these up!!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

tracks 41-50

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the vocal version Dan, which is also available on the CD I Love Disco Diamonds Volume 1.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn. Tracks 41-50 are doing the same as the first lot - stalling before the dl is complete.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

And now it's unavailable. Bah.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Here are tracks 1-10 again:
http://s35.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3MM8F2TKEI22S3E92OAUXKAU31

and 11-20 again:
http://s34.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2XVMXHZJ3RL4B2CAC34HNA9IXM

I was going to ask if someone would be so kind as to re-send 21-40, but I'm going to be gone all day, so the link would probably expire by the time I got back. However, if anyone wants to put these on slsk at some point, that would be awesome.

Lingbertt, Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

bah, 3-5 are all expired. damn you ilm.

if any of you fine souls feel like reuping any of those, i't be much appreciated

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you lingbertt, 1-10 opened for me this time

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

This is fantastic... like, one of the best things anyone has ever done on ILM. Fuck keeping this lot on my hard drive, I'm whacking it all onto CD immediately, like an Italo Disco 'Nuggets'.

Someone needs to do this for Detroit techno now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Somewhere God is smiling on a Hungarian.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on - one doesn't smile on things. Shining his light or something.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I am working on ysi'ing 4, it's taking a bit.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I live in St. Louis now, Teeny. We should have an Italo Disco dance party!

stephen morris (stephen morris), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

awesome! what neighborhood did you end up in, if you don't mind saying?

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The Loop, right across from Vintage Vinyl, which was probably not in my best interests.

stephen morris (stephen morris), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Note that there is a significant lack of DOOM in these tracks.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it is DOOMING all my attempts to ysi! :(

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

tracks 51-60

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

repost of zip4 (31-40):
http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0RPY1M154980S05F2ASWERVZ24

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Would love a repost of zip5.

Finally found a reliable way of making them dl for me without stopping halfway (on a mac). Getting to the 'your download should start automatically but if not click here' screen then quickly right-clicking (ctrl+click if you have a single button mouse) the .zip link, copying it ,quitting the browser and pasting the link into the shareware iGetter download manager program. The reason speed is of the essence, and you have to shut the browser down is that yousendit creates a unique address for each download, which can only be used once. So once your browser has started the download, you've had it.

No idea why the problem arises in the first place - I've only once had it happen to me before with ysi, but I guess I don't often download such big files.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrgh - that worked for zip6 and I was assuming it was about to have worked for the repost of zip1 but now it's saying 'waiting' on 112.03MB out of 112.06MB! Arrgh. Why is it stalling like this at the last sodding moment?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

It's given up. Shit.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

And now the reposted link has expired too. Sigh.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

warning electrohouse fans: do not download unless you want to realise how many of these tracks have been ripped off!

my favourite italo track is that one with the stompy bassline and the hi-hats that sounds almost exactly like house.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

haha. you have to admit the cowbell in sylvesters "do you wanna funk" sounds familiar

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

tracks 61-68

fe zaffe (fezaffe), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Still missing #'s 3 and 5. Anyone have these on Soulseek? How about a repost or Oink upload?

Ryan Pitchfork, Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't figured out how to do an oink upload (I mean I'm on oink but I've never made a torrent of my own and all the oink rules scare me a bit).

I'll repost 5 as a ysi tomorrow though if no one else has. Need to turn off my computer now.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 May 2005 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry - I mean I'll repost 3. I didn't manage to get 5 either.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 May 2005 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a huge fan of this kind of big drum/ultra cheesey Italo in the first place, but I have to say that half of these songs aren't much better than the dreck you'd find on a compilation called "Best of Italo Disco, Volume 34." Some odd choices too, where's "Love Spy," "Boom Boom Boom (Let's Go Back To My Room)," "Happy Station," "La Dolce Vita," anything by Ken Lazlo, "I Love My Radio," "Around My Dream," or even "Tarzan Boy," just to name a few Mid-80's Italo classics of the top of my head.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 30 May 2005 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

repost of zip5

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Monday, 30 May 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

jergins (jergins), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess this is as good a thread as any to ask: is Rapidshare frowned upon here?

jergins (jergins), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

both YSI and Rapidshare have their downsides. YSI only allows for like 25 downloads per file, but rapidshare only allow for a certain amount of bandwidth per person per hour. both kinda suck

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 30 May 2005 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

is there no way of hosting this for some time, instead of this bitty request and upload policy?

I'm only moaning because I don't have access to my computer till tomorrow and all the YSI links will be expired by then : /

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 30 May 2005 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly makes Italo Disco differenrt from other disco/ dance music?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

from the stuff that i've heard, it's usually a lot synthier, less reliant on schmaltzy strings and is a precursor to techno. think giorgio moroder

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, alright. Sounds cool.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

also, most italo was prominent in the '80s, well after disco proper faded out of vogue (in the US, at least). there are some '70s precursors to italo, like, yeah, moroder and macho's "i'm a man," but italo as it's commonly referred to more or less started around '82/'83 and relied less on live instrumentation and almost entirely on synths.

joseph (joseph), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What an odd thread! I seem to have missed all of these, with the exception of 2 and four and would appreciate someone getting in touch with me via gmail to discuss mailing these? Pretty please?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 30 May 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do the YSI's keep crashing, I wonder? Somebody posting the location on a newsfeed or email list? Or is somebody shutting them off? Or are there a flood of ILXers all piling on? Like me?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 30 May 2005 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i am sharing the first five on slsk. username = eliti

t0dd swiss (immobilisme), Monday, 30 May 2005 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

hey, to further help, I'm sharing 20 or 30 italo songs right now, most of which are pretty essential and compliment the above list nicely. That selection is a little crazy, some definate classics but many more question marks.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, that's dannyDMX, and I'll keep them up there at least tonight.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, the quality of these songs is GREAT! despite the fact that none of them work in windows media player for some reason...

(i only have 2 and 4, myself)

joseph (joseph), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't all rush at once.

JohnFoxxsJuno, Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

these are good mixes! the third "non-stop mix" contains an italo cover of "waterloo sunset"! who does this?

joseph (joseph), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

managed to get 2, 4 and 5. 2 is on another machine, 5 won't unzip. Could some of the folks who were lucky enough to get these repost? many thanks in advance!

allanm, Friday, 3 June 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

allanm, Friday, 3 June 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, i'm a dick for saying it, but that leaves 1 and 6; anybody offering? I'd like to put this together as a multi disc gift set for the girl...

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

these better still be up when i get home

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 3 June 2005 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

fe zaffe, I'm addicted to this stuff now. thanks to all reposters, now I can get my fix.

torrent would make sense, but (for shame) I don't know how to set one up.

patita (patita), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i've only gotten around to listening to #4 so far, but it didn't seem very much like the Italo i've heard so far. i know there's a very fine line between italo and say hi-nrg, but a lot of this stuff sounded very, i dunno, just straight synth pop or new wave. also, not sure if it's because most of the italo i've heard is in mixes or big names (robotnik, kano, telex), but, could it be that i'm only getting the cream of the crop and this CDr of DOOM actually has a lot of not so great stuff in it? (remember this is only #4 i'm talking about so far). am i alone in thinking this?

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm working on putting 1 up.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 3 June 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 3 June 2005 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

there's lotsa kinds of italo, and not everything on that list is strictly italo...or strictly good. There's some total classics and awesome tracks in there, and stuff that gets a bit to late in the game for my taste. Bit it's definately following the more catholic idea of italo. A lot of that is canadian, san francisco, hi-nrg etc. And a lot of it is from the prime era of italo of the mid 80s that most europeans(mainly eastern) consider the true ITALO but most of us (ex-techno DJs, johny-come-lately hipsters etc) find less interesting. The stuff I'm (occassionally) sharing on Soulseek fills it out a bit better, leaning towards a bunch more classic stuff.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Thaaaank yoooooou.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 4 June 2005 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

johny-come-lately hipsters - YAY, I'LL RAISE MY FUCKING HAND TO THAT!

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 4 June 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(Dan OTM of course)

"this CDr of DOOM actually has a lot of not so great stuff in it?"

Yeah, I think once people actually stop collecting and start listening to this (which should be oh...awhile from now,) they might be in a for a big surprise if all they have heard is "I-Robots." As I said before, I was never a fan of the big drum/heavy synth/cheese Italo from the mid '80s, but this set is deeply flawed in selection, even if it does include some classics.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 4 June 2005 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

now i just need part six to complete the set! this is like when i used to collect teenage mutant ninja turtles cards.

dan's right, half of these are crud, but there's nuggets of gold here and there. in fact, the 3rd part alone (tracks 21-30) is highly recommended (by, uh, me) as a primer in italo for anyone who's not familiar with it ("living on video," "hypnotic tango," "spacer woman," "cybernetic love," et al.)

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 4 June 2005 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"Andromeda" by Doctor's Cat>>>>>>>"Feel The Drive" by Doctor's Cat

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Saturday, 4 June 2005 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The entire Doctor's Cat album (the one with "Feel The Drive" on it) is so so great.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Saturday, 4 June 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I"m not knocking the selection, there's some stuff on there I've never seen mp3s of, Get Up by Digital Emotion and X-Ray Connections' Replay are two favorites (though X Ray Connection's "Get Up" is even better) I just wanted to make it clear that this isn't any kind of "definitive" collection.

I have the 12"s of Feel the Drive and Watch Out, and downloaded the Doctor's Cat LP and was impressed with how good it all is. I love Gee Whiz.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"gee whiz" IS great, yeah. i don't think i've heard "watch out" but i still stand by what i said about "feel the drive"

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 4 June 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

(great exercise song, too)

joseph (joseph), Saturday, 4 June 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

"gee whiz" sounds like its straight outta Scarface, therfore, I love it.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Saturday, 4 June 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"gee whiz" sounds like its straight outta Scarface, therefore, I love it.

kevin says relax (daddy warbuxx), Saturday, 4 June 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

missed a typo, buddy :)

[that bastard] jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 4 June 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

note that Brian De Palma used some serious italo soundtracking in Body Double...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 4 June 2005 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"Watch Out!" was lifted wholesale on Felix Da Housecat's "Neon Human" so if you've heard the Devin Dazzle album, you've heard "Watch Out!"

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Sunday, 5 June 2005 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone feel like reupping these? They look fairly stupendous.

Pablo (Pablo A), Saturday, 17 December 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

Nice. I'm not normally given to hyperbole, but Charlie - Space Woman may be the best thing of any kind ever including the future.

Yawn (Wintermute), Saturday, 17 December 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Imagine my surprise upon seeing opening this thread to read that this apparently wasn't a huge compilation of Italian disco tracks. Anyone care to educate me?

Mitya (mitya), Sunday, 18 December 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

Wooah! Would love to see these classics reupped.

Grovsnus, Tuesday, 27 December 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 31 July 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

The track list looks good...but I don't really think that a lot of these groups are italo-disco?
