Opinions? His flow sounds like somebody xeroxed eminem, but I'm interested in spite of myself. Pretty nice on first blush.

so, my school paper got sent a promo copy of the album (lol the label loves college(s) too!) and i gotta, say... it's pretty dope? i'm like, shocked obv tbh. "i love college" is a huge outlier but in the context of the album it makes sense, and really every other lyric is on point, and the song about being white brings up really good points. between this and ugk it's starting to look pretty good for rap music this year imo.

what is this bullshit: http://www.popmatters.com/pm/feature/72677-asher-agonistes-an-interview-with-asher-roth/

The marching band kids, with their horns slung over their orange-and-black pads, walked by. To them, Asher Roth was a joke—nothing more than a dreamer making corny MP3 recordings in a basement with ‘Footie’. They had heard about Roth but they never took the time to listen to his music. Their loss.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 26 April 2009 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

1. Asher thinks the word "tuffet" is pronounced "truffet" and no one at his record label corrected him.

2. "Suck a Dick Butkis"

3. There's a scene of him about to get a blumpkin that lasts like 5 seconds.

4. Is he really trying to appeal to people by hoping they go "I play Mario Kart too!"

5. "Cheetos be my choice of chip."

6. "You're the B.E.-EST"

7. Is the subtext of the video that this dorkball is coming through to steal all the african-american women?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 26 April 2009 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

April 29, 2009. Remember last week when MediaTakeOut.com told you about some NO NAME rapper named Asher Roth who called Black women nappy headed hoes. Well now he’s turning to Black men.

Apparently Asher, who’s affiliated with Atlantic Records and Jay Z and Kanye West, claims that he’s ‘disgusted’ by the Black rappers. Here’s his exact quote:

“All these black rappers — African rappers — talking about how much money they have. 'Do you realize what's going on in Africa right now?'" Roth says.

"It's just like, 'You guys are disgusting. Talking about billions and billions of dollars you have. And spending it frivolously, when you know, the Motherland is suffering beyond belief right now.

proxymuzak (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 30 April 2009 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

As of late, statements I’ve made have been stirring up much controversy and speculation. It is in my best interest that I feel I should address these instances personally and specifically. Truth: I am 23 year old imperfect human being who’s world is drastically changing around him. Facebook is no longer for just me and my friends. Twitter is no longer solely for the watchful eye of my parents. A new responsibility and voice has been placed upon me and is being heard well beyond my immediate peers. I’ve been receiving a crash course on perspectives and a very real sensitivity that exists and is an essential part of our world. With that, I’d like to sincerely apologize for any words that have been misinterpreted and may have offended any man, woman or child.

The twitter situation was an immature attempt to poke fun at an infamously moronic joke. In doing so, I unconsciously stooped to the level of its originator, making it just as bad, if not worse. Pathetic. Lesson learned - nothing good can come from repeating hateful words, regardless of your intentions. Leaving no context in what was being said and being presented through text (no facial or vocal inflection) the sarcasm of the joke (or lack there of) was not properly perceived and left it purely in bad taste. I immediately apologized for my immaturity but the apologies and original post were deleted by my team in an effort to prevent more people from being offended. Unfortunately, the deletion of these statements led several people to believe that my apology was insincere, which is why I have made the decision to release this statement.

The latest quote on giving back was in response to a question about rappers and their money posed to me by the interviewer. With the question and entire vibe of the conversation not being present in the article, when my statement came out in print it appeared as if I was taking black rappers to task randomly. Not the case. Although I do feel strongly about giving back when we are in a position of power and prosperity, it is not my place to talk about what others should do with their lives. Lesson learned: talk about what you know. You can call them mistakes, I call them life lessons. It is my duty as a human being to choose my words carefully, for I am a kind soul who puts a lot of stock in the progess of humans. I am a work in progress, as we all are and I will take this opportunity to learn and grow. Its bigger than an apology, its an understanding.

Moving forward, I hope we can all take some perspective and guidance from the dialogue that has emerged from these situations. I know I already have and will continue to do so.

Onward and upward

With love,

Asher Roth

this is prob the least worst thing he's ever put out actually

altho it's also like he heard "walk alone" and was like "shit, i need to do something that corny!"

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 August 2010 06:29 (fifteen years ago)

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 August 2010 06:30 (fifteen years ago)

jaxon, Thursday, 14 October 2010 05:32 (fifteen years ago)

whoa, this thread really does have a Bad Ronald reference

I still have that CD. Obviously it's really stupid but kind of funny. "Let's Begin" still is a pretty good song.

frogbs, Thursday, 14 October 2010 13:54 (fifteen years ago)

this thread is pretty funny

forks is the antigoon

deej, Thursday, 11 November 2010 16:27 (fifteen years ago)

forks repping for asher before he was a total pariah is quaint, him sticking his guns in 2010 is just kinda brass balls imo

deej otm (some dude), Thursday, 11 November 2010 16:29 (fifteen years ago)

we don't always get to choose what we like
and yeah, he's come off as a total schmuck in every interview i've read/seen
but he sounds good over a whole lotta these beats

imo its weirder that he was into it before the hype -- truly a glance at taste thru the looking glass -at least after the hype he could claim contrarianism

deej, Thursday, 11 November 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

lolz at your presumptions
i was curious about him because he was getting booked in the city and people were shopping him around for live performances with EPKs and mixtapes and i liked what i heard and was aware there was enough of a push that he was gonna be a national artist hence the thread start

wait, you post a lol racism picture when nobody else is even connecting his wackness to his whiteness and you call us presumptuous?

deej otm (some dude), Thursday, 11 November 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

think yer confusing "lol racism" with "lol kneejerk response" in a gif battle

so what does forks's card say? "it is because of my display name that I am called corny"?

deej otm (some dude), Thursday, 11 November 2010 17:54 (fifteen years ago)

i'd like to make an offer to some dude to change my display name to "some dude otm" for a month if he promises to take a break from backing me into boring arguments. i'm not interested in becoming the interim babysitter for his bitchfits while he's not engaging with deej.

I'm sure Ebay has some wicked pog collections (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 11 November 2010 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

haha have i been mean to you lately besides light jabs in the your "kick me" sign asher roth thread? if so i don't remember it and apologize.
