the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 26 January 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

hi stevie is it true that you told andrew from die! die! die! that the international telepaths would never support them because we are too "corporate rock"?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 1 February 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Minty (Minty), Monday, 2 February 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Minty (Minty), Monday, 2 February 2004 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Corporate rock, ha ha ha!

Minty (Minty), Monday, 2 February 2004 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's producing your next album, Bob Rock or Mutt Lange?

Minty (Minty), Monday, 2 February 2004 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I have one of your albums on CDR, you're not going to sue me are you?

Minty (Minty), Monday, 2 February 2004 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

hey wait, stevie says he is misrepresented. i suspect young andrew is prone to a little "artistic license".

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 2 February 2004 07:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm inclined to agree w/ that, I've experienced his gift for overstatement.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 2 February 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too, I think.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 4 April 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

and/or 'Hysteria', for that matter

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 4 April 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Stevie, my "hey" thread has more messages than yours! But weren't you meant to be making ME CDs of some sort? Cause I got tapes to do your Cale tape today, if you still want it.

Livvie (Livvie), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

ha and something for me at some point about 2 years ago!

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

dude even *I* don't have Dare or Hysteria.

i have yr cdrs sitting about in my room, livvie. i'm the worst cdmaking person in the world & only tend to do it if I see you out all the time & you come & dance in my room & say "hey that track's pretty great" & stuff (tho I made the mayer one for andrew didn't work, thus sending me into a black pit of despair).

etc, Monday, 5 April 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

This Andrew?

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 April 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

no, notorious beatfreak and0ru w1lson. of course it was for you! i think the failure might be coz my computer can't handle superhuge files (i got the mayer fabric thing as one huge mp3 so it'd be SEAMLESSLY MIXED'n'stuff); o might have to go round to the d0n to make it.

etc, Monday, 5 April 2004 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

10. L'Trimm - We Like The Cars That Go Boom (3:50)

haha am i the only one who downloaded this a million years ago after seeing it attributed (on napster or something) to LE TIGRE?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Monday, 5 April 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

etc you haven't even told me if you ever received the stuff I sent via E; if I have to see you about in order to stay in your consciousness or whatever then okay but don't say you're going to send/make stuff if y're not - not that I haven't done the same but I'm trying to improve!

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Monday, 5 April 2004 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I just found that Cdr. So, it doesn't work? Should I hazard it?

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 April 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

It worked! I liked it! Take that! Esp "1 2 3 No Gravity" and another track, next time I listen to it I'll work details out/ask properly. Thanks, tho.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 15 April 2004 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
I don't get why anyone wouldn't have "Dare" actually

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 04:14 (twenty-two years ago)

That and "Arrival".

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 04:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Not in a bad way, just sort of interested

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

lack of money?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 28 May 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Well maybe, I mean I don't know what the prices of these are like on Cds

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 09:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i almost bought it yesterday but it was $15!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

JESUS! You mean US$, right? Oh that's just ridiculous, I mean it's good enough to justify that but FUCK you can get it ANYWHERE nearly on vinyl for like 50c or so, geez. I found the gatefold edition cover at an opshop today, I should've got it for someone cos it SO beats the regular (four pics not just Phil) cover

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha even I have Dare! Andrew and Elisabeth gave it to me so I'm lucky I guess.

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 28 May 2004 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah EVEN YOU

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

well i think it was a two-albums-on-one-CD deal, to be fair, so it's not a complete ripoff. i'll try to find a used copy on amazon.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Was the other one "Hysteria"?

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

My entire record collection is stuff you guys bought me.

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No it isn't! What about um that Gun Club record and "The Idiot"? Yr fuckin full of it

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have a Gun Club record!

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

And to be honest I wasn't being literal; I thought you might've picked that up.

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I'm doing that annoying there where I insist on taking everyone else literally, it's very very funny I seem to think

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

THING

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

It gets you a lot more compliments, I guess.

Livvie (Livvie), Friday, 28 May 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

justyn do not pay A$15 for dare, hysteria OR arrival. thats just criminal. buy a record player and get em all for 50c.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 29 May 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Seconded, EVERYONE should do that anyway

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 29 May 2004 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Um I don't mean that to sound like an order or anything tho

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 29 May 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

mine was supposed to sound like an order.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 29 May 2004 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

diff between cheap cds & vinyl = CHEAP GREATEST HITS; with the human league reduced to their purest pop essence (or "p", if you will), who needs albums? tho I've got crash on cassette. when I get money for music (I haven't purchased anything in months & months & months - I don't think I've walked past the flyer-festooned entrance of RG in forever), I'm all about kid creole, duck rock & a big microhouse order. but that'll be ages away, & contingent on getting a second job.

when i get money for postage, i've got cdrs for liz & livvie. hope i find a flat soon . . .

etc, Sunday, 30 May 2004 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

hurray!
I tried to make my sonic youth tick $ by having a garage sale but I only made $twenty. But I'm trying really really hard from now on, I am determined to go. I have a month to go! I need a job so bad

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Sunday, 30 May 2004 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"Seconds"

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 31 May 2004 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Tho actually and I'm not meaning to sound any more than enjoyably argumentative (it's not like I'm all that into MORE people checking out RG vinyl), I'd say "Dare!" is closer to any kind of DISTILLATION/SUMMIT of the Human League's POPNESS than any Greatest Hits where you get later not so hot (or too reaching for the charts)/earlier not so unabashed singles etc, anyway. Except um quite a few songs but Y'KNOW. 'Seconds' may still be the best objection, however. In fact it IS, I think.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Fuck everyone" Stevie interjects, half-mocking himself "It's a meta-discouse on the nature of the Auckland scene"

Oh yeah

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 13 June 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Stevie you're so WRY and SARDONIC.

Livvie (Livvie), Sunday, 13 June 2004 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

hey stevie rang me to say he was listening to my radio show. that was damned sweet! i couldn't understand a word you were saying tho! cos i am retarded and i was thinking "oh no that songs gonna run out soon and i'll have to press start on another one and turn it down and shit blaarrrrgggggHHH!" were you at yr work or something?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 14 June 2004 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

next time i am doing a radio show i will let you know, then if you want to request a song i can prepare and bring it to the studio with me.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 16 June 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I was at work at the k rd bookstore! luckily not many customers (or my boss). I didn't know how long yr show was on for but when I tuned in "love action" was playing & it was pretty obvious! yay! I was gonna request the futurians but I felt stupid after the pete shelley & blackstreet requests but you played them anyway! btw you have to listen to justus köhncke ft meloboy's "frei / hot love" - it's a boy-on-boy squelchy/shuffly germanic version of the t rex song!

well this seems as good a place as any to tell people I dreamed Marc Bolan changed his last name to "Boogie" and threw a party in my vicinity in celebration. Unfortunately I had something growing out of my back and was on drugs for the surgery I was meant to be getting only the surgeon tried to rape me, so I was too traumatised to enjoy the Marc Boogie party.
And holy underpants Stevie, you're...wearing...not much.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Put em away darlin

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't forget the Stevie-cise pics. That looked like fun. Even though it included a photo of someone dancing with a cig in their hand, which really annoys me.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been trying to, actually. I ONLY dance w/a cigarette pretty much so watch out

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

marc "we love to" boogie. heh.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

how are the secretaries going, btw?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 17 June 2004 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah after I posted that I thought 'that might be Andrew dancing with the cig'.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I kinda doubt I'd be dancing at that to be honest

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

If I feel like hazarding a dance at Sy I'll get out of yr way, if you like. Or smoke two at once if I feel like being a dick, in which case throw something at me

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

No I love being singed by flailing cigarettes at gigs.
Please be careful not to burn a hole in my Jim fan banner though.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't flail at all, I am almost liquid in my control and grace

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha that's interesting Spectra, as so far the responses to Stevie-cise that I've heard have ranged from "soul-destroying" to "I nearly cried".

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a bridge too far, really.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Also I promise to smoke absolutely stationary at SY, though probably more out of my hatred of dancing than anything.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

well then Andrew I'll know you burned me on purpose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Won't you be persuaded to sway, Livvie?

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

whilst wearing suede

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm I dunno! I can PROBABLY handle that; last time I was forced to attempt any kind of controlled dancing I CRIED and I'm not the kind of wuss that just cries at anything, it's a phobia.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm lost as to the significance of suede, however.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

YR SCARED OF DANCING?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

stick to the uncontrollable dancing

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

it was my unstoppable poetry: persuade/swayed/suede

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember the word for that, assonance?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

well the last two are homynyms anyway

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah assonance.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, go me. The "-suaded" was the thing

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'M SCARED OF NEEDLES but needles are scary

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'M SCARED OF NEEDLES TOO. At least I'm no longer scared of going to assembly, woo.

Livvie (Livvie), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Needles are scared of me.

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Who isn't

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Spectra's not scared of anyone. She's too busy being aggressive.

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 17 June 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'll probably dance heaps at Sonic Youth because I've found myself getting very very excited.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Friday, 18 June 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh also! You wanted me to tape you both Blue Nile records, right? In case I forget. I'll stick the "Downtown Lights" bsides on it too, of course.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey has anyone heard the ad on bFM for the alt music festival? It's a bunch of I guess Auckland scene-y type questions, one of which is "have you made friends with dancing Stevie yet?" Ah, notoriety.

Minty (Minty), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my god.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

how horrifying.
Is it just me or is Auckland more scenestery now?

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

dude stole my schtick

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it definitely is, and it's a much much worse scene. Makes me cry into my pillow at night.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus all those scenesters are like real behind on everything anyway, like they're into stuff that was cool in the US two years ago, haha!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The US/us. WHEN will they finally start listening to Fleetwood Mac?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Auckland's gotten more and more unpleasant in the last year and a 1/2 or so, I think.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude Where's My Schtick?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate how auckland male musicians all dress the same.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

or at least they do when they play in dunedin. that whole "intellectual" look, you know, the black mod trousers and tidy shirt, sometimes with the big black framed glasses.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

you makin' fun of androu di?

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

haha wtf?!?! this still won't trick me into listening to bfm, anyway.

andrew I was just after "hats", but the b-sides'd be nice. tho I suppose if it fit on, the first album'd be appropriate (I don't listen to it enough, & I've only got it in mp3 form anyway).

um anyway, so auckland got worse once I arrived? THANKS.

etc, Wednesday, 30 June 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it had started already.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

And you provided a window onto its horribleness

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

So, maybe it's always been this bad. Hey S I tried to do that Burger Ink/Bill Direen tape, wouldn't fit. Would the Bill be better on this NEW tape than "Walk Across"? Or "Sheath"?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 1 July 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i wasn't just making fun of andoru. pumice too!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 1 July 2004 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought steffan dressed like a bearded hippie?

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 1 July 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

when he was last here he dressed like an auckland musician for a gig.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 1 July 2004 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, keep it w/the other blue nile. tho I would like to hear sheath . . I've had it half-downloaded for ages @ cybergates, better find a user who hasn't deleted their account.

etc, Thursday, 1 July 2004 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
hey elisabeth/andrew, could I take a peek at yr proposed setlist/ideas for thursday? email it to stevie dot kaye at gmail if you want, &c&c&c.

ps : andrew what do you think of illmatic?

etc, Monday, 30 August 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Never heard it, I guess I'd kinda like to. The setlist isn't on computer at all as yet, what sort of thing do you want to know?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Also it needs a few finishing touches, wanna play JUST THE RIGHT Cat Power song, y'know

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe we should play "Yeah", actually. Did you ever play that? I fixed the bside (I like the Pretentious Version as much as the Crass one, I WOULD), needed .5 lighter needle. Also maybe my needle needs replacing.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

matthew tends to play it all the time, tho he plays the STUPID VERSION (haha, bad associations with the c-word obv). like . . . any particular focus/era/style/blah? tho if he's already played one version, playing the other later in the night would be pretty fucking cool (& fuck lyrics (tho I like the stupid version)).

"n.y. state of mind" is one of the high points of the nineties, man.

etc, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, fuck it then. We're on first, right? Focus/style no just some crap we like, incl most of the obvious stuff, KLF/Fall/Andrew WK/Donna Summer/St Etienne/Strokes/Iggy Pop blah blah maybe Jay-Z, if I get the record tomorrow.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 05:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"Stupid Version" is also a MUCH funnier title. If Crass weren't boring they'd cover "Yeah".

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

you can be on pretty much whenever you want, yr the GLAMOROUS GUEST DJS (tho i'm probably tag-teaming w/dunc4n dnx, if he can get a babysitter). yr set sounds great, I probably won't bring any klf/st etienne/&c anyway, tho I might play brian eno's "third uncle" WATCH OUT. or some BIGGIE, yeah.

etc, Tuesday, 31 August 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Play "Mo Money Mo Problems" please (he's on that, isn't he? Maybe just in spirit tho). Glamorous, this sounds like a job for my Star Wars: THE PHANTOM MENACE tshirt! Thanks, the set looks good to US, not enough new/familiar stuff for KAMU prob (not that I've been in months), tough luck. Eno, great! We should play "King's Lead Hat".

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone has any better ideas for what top I should wear go ahead and suggest yr brains out

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 31 August 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Juicy

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I still kinda want to see the squirrel shirt!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

biggie biggie biggie can't you see, sometimes your words just hypnotise me

etc, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

S have you heard the remastered "Ready to Die"? Shit it's good.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It's actually thrown me into a bit of a 90s hip hop kick. Why o why did I ever sell The Chronic? Etc.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Roo you should wear something that accentuates your spectacular nipples.

Minty (Minty), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh in light of that idea GO PHANTOM MENACE

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, didn't even know it was remastered. I should really stop by beat merchants sometime.
after seeing him on letterman tonight, I think I'm gonna have to play ladies love cool james' "mama said knock you out" or "around the way girl".
you can sell the chronic as long as you have a copy of doggystyle (or the still dre/forgot about dre singles).

etc, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I really want to hear his new album (LLcoolJ)

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

hey spectra! you going to meatwaters? my flatmate's band (goldenaxe) are playing, & I wanna see them/cortina/disasterradio . . . if I can scab a ride down, &c&c&c. tho it sucks that there's none of the dunedin contingent who were there last year.

etc, Thursday, 2 September 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for the thought S, but selling The Chronic is still up there along with giving away my Black Sabbath box set on my "st00p1d things I've done" list.

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

hey you'r flatting with one of the goldenaxe guys?, have those dudes done any interviews or anything yet?

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 2 September 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ess: they're taking over Enjoy gallery huh?
sux that Beth's not gonna be there.
Clayton is playing though.
I'll prob only go on the Fri night - gfrenzy, claypipe, band that plays coltrane's ascension.
MW poster here

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Thursday, 2 September 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Jews for Jesus! That looks great!

Minty (Minty), Thursday, 2 September 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah that looks real cool. It will be the first meatwaters ive missed. damn. oh ah spectra u can chek clayton and his wife - they are going to be on their honeymoon at it!no shit. goldenaxe had a nice looking page in the last low hum. gfrenzy was the best at last years meatwaters.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Saturday, 4 September 2004 07:07 (twenty-one years ago)

this girl (see below - thanks, friendster!) was v.drunk & was telling matthew & me that "everyone hates their set, nobody's dancing, you have to go & tell them to stop, you have a responsibility!" & shit, tho everyone was dancing. when I was DJing, this random uk-looking indie girl asked me if I had any smiths (this was near the start of my set), then about six songs later asked if I was going to play any rock music. & tim asked me to stop playing dance music, but he came back & said he liked the headman remix of "matinee" more than the original, wtf.

http://photos.friendster.com/photos/85/46/1446458/5863500812405l.jpg

etc, Saturday, 4 September 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the key to being a DJ is to keep your eyes on the dancefloor and not listen to what people say about your set, unless the dancefloor has cleared. great setlist!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 4 September 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Man friendter rules. I can't believe you posted her picture! It makes it look like she's plotting more terrible things to say.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Sunday, 5 September 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hey ess you still possibly coming here? 'cause I'll be out of town wed - sun.

cuspidorian (cuspidorian), Sunday, 5 September 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah that's her!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 5 September 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like her much

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 5 September 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I am however impressed she owns a stereo

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I was tag-teaming w/dunc4n gr3ive in three-song blocks, tho I can't remember how long we actually played - about seven blocks in total?

u.s.e. - emerald city
avril - sk8r boi (synthpop rmx)
da hawnay troof - jump n bump
ll cool j - mama said knock you out
dresden dolls - girl anachronism
ikettes - i'm blue (the gong-gong song)
franz ferdinand - matinee (headman vocal remix)
electric six - danger! high voltage (soulchild 12" blitz mix)
daft punk - digital love
basement jaxx - romeo

+ um two more, maybe the dfa rmx of jnr snr's "shake yr coconuts" or the tiga edit of lcd soundsystem's "burning down" or phoenix's "if I ever feel better" (actually, did I open w/this?) or um. too long ago + too drunk. duncan was on a fairly dancehall/dirty south/OMD tip, I think.

also somebody (who hasn't got any REAL PICTURES on friendster, maybe I shld report her for all her pictures being of a famous actress (& she must have deleted her profile then created a new one, haha)) was complaining to my flatmate today that I played too much dance stuff (again, wtf) & they just wanted to come along & dance to [80s stuff/the smiths/britpop (wtf)] & that my set wasn't keeping w/K+MU's tone (or something). I hate this town, blah blah why can't we have our own optimo/hollertronix/&c.

btw andrew & elisabeth, yr set was awesome (despite my incipient panic re : the secr3taries), I went nuts to the wire & b-52s, & it got me to check out a whole buncha stuff I hadn't bothered w/! (hadn't listened to "fascist groove thing" due to phil oakey loyalty; hadn't listened to much post-tiger bay etienne; hadn't listened to anything from the black album (& it was great dancing to "99 problems" in costume w/the synth); &c&c&c (is the subway sect song a kid creole cover?).

spectra, um I can't afford to go to wgtn anymore, sigh.

etc, Monday, 6 September 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

We played Subway Sect? Go us! It's all kinda blank. No it's orig, they're a pretty jumpy/dancey band really, like rock bands should be more often (any of their tracks would've worked as well as that one)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"Penthouse and Pavement" is as good as the Human League's greatest work which is of course "Dare!"

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah our set was kinda wishful thinking Optimoish, I think. Oh well.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Lisa said I looked really annoyed during yr set, haha.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't, I just look that way, obv

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

fair enough. btw I have to make you a cd w/"cola bottle baby", some big & rich & some u.s.e & shit (maybe some misc dfa stuff?). wrt/that exchange w/the girl on yr LJ, I read it initially as her saying she didn't have to be so mean! oh I wish.

etc, Monday, 6 September 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, i have that single... never listen to the damn things i guess

yeah, most of those 'This is Hardcore' b-sides were pretty damn good

Bill E (bill_e), Friday, 2 September 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

it's the original version of "glory days", much more stomping/rocking/whatevs (wailing sax!), & v.stinging lyrics. probably the pulp track I listen to the most (w/maybe "the last day of the miner's strike" & "this house is condemned" trailing behind), when all's told (tho I tend to hear "disco 2000" & "common people" DJed all the time).

etc, Friday, 2 September 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

i spy was always my fav pulp track... some of the early tracks like 'blue girls', 'they suffocate at night' and 'my lighthouse' are kind of guilty pleasures though too...
