true dat.

i prefer the xeroxable stuffs. web art is fun like that too. "free" to look at.

in college we used to cover the walls with whatever strange stuff we could find. like grocery store circulars with large, illustrated slabs of beef and pork... a friend worked at a portrait studio and they were throwing out there old backdrops... very fuckin hilarious shit to have these wall-sized trees and sky... or a backdrop of a bookcase!

i never get away with shit like that nowadays with the wife. she's got good taste i suppose, but yeah, i guess that my humor for tongue and cheek got old with her. that's funny for only so long i suppose. i still have a nice collection of illustrated directions... like how to operate your walkman in The Universal Language of Symbols... etc etc...

http://www.hennesseyingalls.com/design/1556709625.htm

the text of that book is pretty blah... nothing new... but the graphics are great. nothing like the barnes and noble bargain section... $4.98!!

A friend of mine had a show recently and while I was proud, I was also dismayed by the ridiculously unrealistic prices attached to the pieces. I mean, I spend weeks on realistic paintings and probably wouldn't charge that much whereas some of these were works that I had personally seen be created in under an hour. It's odd to think that being fresh out of college, someone considers their sloppy doodles worthy of $700 / hour.

Not at all what I was saying. I was talking about comparing two artists of similar pedigree with vastly different styles. Obv, there are other factors, but I don't think it's an outrageous arguement to make.

Besides, that is mostly a commentary on this particular person's work and not some expose for the benefit of internet doods.

I bought a print of this:

http://www.edwardfausty.com/images/a111/images/longworkroom.jpg

for $50, and another one of his for another $50. He and a bunch of other JC artists were losing their studios and he made a special edition of a bunch of his photos (each is 1/1) for the closing of their space. I saw a slightly larger print of the same one on an auction site with an estimated value of $800, so yay me, I guess.

He uses some unusual inkjet printing technique/paper, so the effect in person is more interesting.
