YES DDB, THE 1st THIN LIZZY ROOLZ, OTHER BANDS DROOLZ.

First three records actually, I can't enough of that trio era. "Look What the Wind just Blew In", "Remembering", that goofily titled "Klontarf Castle" one kicking off the album in Hendrixian glory, "Honesty is My Only Excuse" .. it just doesn't quit.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 13 May 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Arnold Dreyblatt "Animal Magnetism" - put this on again after years of sitting on the shelf, whoops, this is GREAT

dood, that was mac asking you!

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 13 May 2005 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I start thread on Dreyblatt

don't know what Radigue you've heard: her stuff is similarily drony since 1970, and some of it whines a bit, I can see how Adnos might a bad impression, but Trilogie is the one

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 13 May 2005 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

hard to pin down lungfish records to two when many of the early records each had some really strong tunes.

but i'm a big ass lungfish fan with a bunch of danny higgs poetry books sitting around.

quatermass and the pit is definitely one of my favorite films ever, I could listen to Cary's insect-kill-drone at the end of the film for hours

sugarpants: baby's face on football! (sugarpants), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i like a couple songs on that nin record pretty good. ninny ninny boo boo! it's like something james murphy said in a 'fork interview thingy last week...

As for Trent, I like him, I think he's a really interesting guy. I don't know if the stuff he makes is for me. I don't think it's supposed to be for me. I think it's for somebody else, and for somebody else it's a lifeline. It's not my lifeline, [but] I think it's lifeline music. That kind of heavy just goes by me. I just don't quite get it. But he's an interesting character, and I don't ever discount him.

there's a similar thinking that runs through my head.
m.

msp (mspa), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not much of a pitchfork fan (who the hell is?!) but I see his point. in fact, i think it's this very reason that kept my from listening to much NIN in my late teens/early 20s. and those "lifeline" people — i have difficulty connecting with them, let's just say. i would write more, but that wouldn't be very noize-board-y. anyway, the new album is much more interesting sonically, and it's too bad NIN conjures up visions of fat goths in black lipstick. somebody buy those people some type o negative albums! for fuck's sake.

MELVINS - HOUDINI

SAD FACE x 1,000,000,000 (ddb), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"i'm not much of a pitchfork fan"

well, james murphy is the lcd soundsystem guy... his insights/opinions to me come more from a dance floor/producer perspective. i guess any way you go, it's just one person's opinion and something about it jived with my own feeling. i find myself able to admire some of the things trent does, but at the same time i can't identify so much with where it comes from. i've always liked some industrial, but have never been much of a skinny puppy tshirt dude. i was a pailhead tshirt dude. (the mackaye/jourgensen collaboration.)
m.

msp (mspa), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

m is partly right...James Murphy is ALSO the portly/hippyish drummer from the terrible indy/pixies rip-off band PONY.

SAD FACE x 1,000,000,000 (ddb), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"metal" is from this heat's "repeat" cd. what's the last live show recording? is that the krefeld, germany one?

TIM ELLISON

how is Traffic Sound's Lux?? I am dying to hear that. It is on my "to-buy" list. I have the '68-'69 CD on Backgroudn that FE used to distribute and it is a personal favorite. "Mendocino" rock! totally one of my fave psych-tracks of all-time. Always wanted to hear that 3rd one but never got around to it; DustyGroove here in Chicago actually carries the thing! and they just got in the new CD comp of the first two, I guess. I will keep my older Background edition for hip points, of course. You know I was all over this shit like 8 years ago or whatever. but anyway they rocked heartily. Fucking "let me down .... Mendocino!!"

Stormy, OMG, Lux is great. Funny, I always thought Tibet's Suzettes was supposed to be their great psych album/crowning achievement and Lux was some hard rock album they made afterwards. Not so. It is greater than Tibet's Suzettes. They just throw you one rad curveball after another on this album. I mean, this was a band with no musical formula whatsoever.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Jack, really, I don't see why you wouldn't love "Arroyo" (which is a good gateway into the rest of that album).

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

to be honest tim, i havent heard that SWA album, though the one's i've heard . . . urm.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim, Bill Berry's hi-hat play reminds me very much of concurrent Pylon drumming!

also, if you have can't think of a band influenced by early REM you need to hear to those early GBV records again.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? I don't know them, actually. I've only heard some GBV records from the early/mid nineties which I didn't like very much. The early records actually sound like early R.E.M.?

I can't stop listening to this two-CD compilation called NEW WAVE OF BRITISH HEAVY METAL '79 REVISITED. On Metal Blade. It is outstanding. A MUST. ALL NOIZE DUDES MUST OWN.

If you don't know Tygers of Pan Tang doing "Killers" or Girlschool doing "Demolition Boys" or Def Leppard doing "Getcha Rocks Off" or Raven doing "Don't Need Your Money" than you are NOT METAL

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 26 May 2005 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

STORMY, IS THAT THE ONE WITH DEF LEPPARD ON IT?

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You bet your ass it is! It has Diamond Head, Sweet Savage, Saxon, White Spirit, Raven, Paralex, Def Leppard, Weapon, Samson, Hallow Ground, Girlschool, Witchfynde, Iron Maiden, Jaguar, Tygers of Pan Tang, Gaskin, Sledgehammer, Venom, Angel Witch, Trespass, Holocaust, Vardis, Blitzkrieg, Fist, Black Axe, A-11-Z, Dragster, and Witchfinder General.

How can you go wrong with a line-up like that?? What happened to Britain to make it suck since then?? METAL UP YOUR ASS
