But how did it all begin?

I just finished Roberto Calasso's *Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony*, and think it's the best book I've read in quite some time. I was wary going in, since I mistrust a lot of syncretistic mythology writing (J. Campbell, et al), but Calasso was far more interested in tracing what is peculiar about the Greeks, and I thought this resulted in his bringing attention to a lot of neglected aspects of their thought that I at least was never introduced to in college (ie, the importance of taking the etymology of "metaphysics" *literally*).

So, what are your thoughts, on this book and on Calasso in general? Interested especially in hearing what the ILE pynchon/sinclair cartel* thinks...

*said with affection, of course, esp since I think calasso could be (loosely?) bracketed with these two quite nicely.
