sunsets in the wintertime are best, watching the sun floating toward the horizon at 5pm is truly beautiful.

I miss Seattle.

that's a nice sunset lyra, it's kinda like the ones you see on the stretch of the district/piccadilly line between Hammersmith and Acton Town. I was the only one watching it once and I was quite annoyed that no one else seemed to be taking it in.

i live in a valley, so the sun's always officially "set" below the hills before the sky even starts getting pinkish. it's fun to be out walking when it's light but there's no visible source of the light.

Jel, that reminds me of a Situationist* cartoon I saw once that stuck in my mind, with a family sitting on the sofa smiling as the TV shows a beautiful sunset, which is identical to the actual scene outside their window.

* my reading - it wasn't in The Big Book Of Situationist Cartoons or anything.

The best part about living in Queens was standing on the pier in Long Island City, watching the sun set over Manhattan. Blinding rays of yellow and gold would shoot between the buildings, refracting off the glass as the sky turned slowly purple. If you get just opposite one of the major streets (42nd St or 57th St) you get this amazing canyon of fire effect.

I miss Queens for the sunsets and the Court Square Diner.
