Mixing Ethnicities in Food: Classic Or Dud

There's burrito place right down the road that serves a Red Curry Chick Pea Burrito. The mixture of the Indian Red Curry with the Mexican wicked hot ranchero sauce with rice, pico de gallo and a large blob of sour cream wrapped in a flour tortilla gives me multiple food orgasms!! Anyone have an extra cigarette for when I'm done eating....

"Wraps" - dud

Kris (aqueduct), Sunday, 20 October 2002 20:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Classic or dud really depends on how it's prepared and who's preparing it. The road to hell is paved with wraps stuffed with mango salsa and bok choi, slapped together by work-study dining hall drones. (Ughh.)

Most brilliant fusion-cooking innovation of the past century: the pizza bagel.

"Wraps" - dud

One of the happiest days of my life was when the glitzed out 'wraps' place that took over what was actually an enjoyable little sandwich and ice cream place across from UCI collapsed after just a few months. Heh heh heh.

"Wraps" - dud

classic except when you go to a greek restaurant and ALL they have is moussaka and then tons of spaghetti and pizza and stuff. grr

I was up in Santa Barbara last night and on State street had a "wrap" type thing called "The Barbarian" that was a flour tortilla wrapped around three different kinds of meat and bbq sauce, and that's it. It was perfect for my drunken state and I really like it, but I'm a little uneasy about it now. The "burrito" stand that made this also served champagne out of paper cups. I'm currently extremely hung over.

I'm still perplexed by the massive influx of "Chinese-Spanish" restaurants in the city.

Ally, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew an italian place that incorporated mexican food into their menu and changed their name (it went from something like Gianelli's to Gianelli's Tacos and Cuisine -- I don't remember exactly). Anyway, it was a bad idea because while their italian food had just been mediocre, the mexican food was downright nasty. Try to get one type of food right first before you move on to others.

Around here the places that served both Chinese and a full range of donuts always bemused me, until someone noted that the connecting factor was the deep fryer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 October 2002 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I found asking people if they wanted mayo on chicken tikka sandwiches when it was obvious they weren't listening and would say yes helped my day go more quickly at work.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 21 October 2002 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Marketed and sold that way, doubtless.

That is easily the most idiotic connecting factor I've ever heard in my life. That's like me opening up a crystal meth lab because, well, I just happen to have a bottle of Nyquil here right at the moment.

Ally, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

you can synthesize crystal meth from nyquil?

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I am at work at 1:30 am and this thread has made me all too hungry.

Never said it was a good reason, dammit!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you think I'm going to tell the truth on this NOW? Not after reading the other thread. Damn freeloaders.
