I need to know numbers. It'll probably be on Saturday 16th and you'll need afternoon and early evening free (until about 8 or so probably).

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I can do this, especially if it's an afternoon thing.

Graham (graham), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe. If I have to work the earliest I can get out is 2.30. Where will it be?

alix (alix), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know where yet or even if it'll be a big thing - I just want to know how many ppl would be interested.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

50-50. may be working...

gareth (gareth), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be there.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm up for it, provisionally - looks fun.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 28 October 2002 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be in Manchester that weekend.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

(Really?)

Travel arrangements on a weekend are looking a bit dodgy (cos of Train engineering nonsense I guess), and I've resorted to looking up FLIGHTS.

Graham (graham), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

GRAHAM DONT BOOK ANYTHING!* I am not sure if it'll be then or whether the logistics of doing it in a FAP size group will even be feasible.

*not that you were about to but just in case, talk of flights is worrisome.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I'm just looking at the moment. But journey options seem limited and spending 5-6 hours each way on a coach is starting to seem like a viable plan.

Graham (graham), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

It all depends, I might be going to the theatre that afternoon.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:57 (twenty-three years ago)

(no, I am not having an operation)

jel -- (jel), Monday, 28 October 2002 18:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm very on indeed, and keen. That's fortunately one of the two days that week that I'm not at a Film Festival movie!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 October 2002 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is this? Do you have to know all the songs beforehand?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Monday, 28 October 2002 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

D'oh. Antifolk at the Jug on the 16th, so it's Brum for me...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 28 October 2002 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope not, EK, or I'm out!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 October 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

EK:

1. Don't know yet. Somewhere reasonably central in London.

2. No though youll enjoy it more if you have an interest in chart pop.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 October 2002 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll do it. I like chart pop.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

How does it work?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Just putting this in new answers for ppl who didnt see it yesterday.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

What be this Focus Group VII thingy then? Forgive a fool. However, if it onvolves shiny pop madness I may well be interested, if not interesting.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The Focus Group: A Brief History

- six-monthly Freaky Trigger feature whereby pop pickers dissect recent hits eg at http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/focus6/

- occurs in two stages, a "live group" with actual playing of the records and boozing; and an "online group" where ballots are sent to people or posted online and votes are collected. The results are an amalgam of these.

- previously the "live group" has been me and mates at my house or a mate's house.

- this time we're thinking of getting a room in a pub and doing it there. Hence it would be more 'open to the public' than before and more people could come.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

yes please.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be in that New York. I take it there won't be Live Aid style UK / US simulcasts?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, but might have to dash off early to see the Dudley Corpo

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

like, if I can't attend, is there anyway I could get a CD of the songs?

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)

When are the Dudlies playing Rick? As in when do they go onstage? I can tweak the start time of the F Group a bit - it's started late the last couple of times.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Not until gone 8 I would imagine. They're third on the bill of the last night of the Strange Fruit festival. It's a bit annoying as I have no interest in seeing either Melys or BMX Bandits who are playing after them.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:47 (twenty-three years ago)

As I believe I am co-in charge of logistics timings are very, very easily played around with - though earlier / finishing earlier is usually better because if we are using an upstairs room of a pub they might want it from sevenish for average punters.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Sometimes living in NZ feels like a bit of a curse.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

People interested in hosting their own live focus groups should pipe up and CDs can probably be arranged!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

No, really? How many people does a "group" require?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

There's no set requirement! A few mates who like some pop music is all you need.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

blondie is a group!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Will The Perils Of Drink Revealed be included at all?

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Live Focus Grouping usually results in prime examples of The Perils Of Drink being Revealed anyway, so I hardly think any artificial injection of Endless Art into proceedings would make that much difference.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall attend with notebook and pen.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I can definetely make it on the 16th!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

OK this is 95% definitely happening, we're just sorting out a location. I will NOT be posting the location here, I'll be emailing interested people so if you might be interested and you haven't replied yet please do so.

I've sorted out a shortlist, too. It's the worst ever!! Oh dear.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 1 November 2002 01:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the date for this fixed? Any idea what time it will start? I'd kinda like to book travel now.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not quite absolutely fixed, sorry Graham. Hopefully by tomorrow.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll rock up and announce my views on pop to a packed room ov mentalists, rar!

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey yo, is this thing on??

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 7 November 2002 21:40 (twenty-three years ago)

...?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:50 (twenty-three years ago)

apparently tom and pete have to organise a pi$$ up in a brewery before they organise this ;)

i am desparately trying to think up an hilarious FNV joke/extended punne for when it inevitably turns up in the group...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 November 2002 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete was going to be organising it but he hasnt (through no fault of his btw) - I am shit at organising these things, we need a space on next S'day afternoon for about 15-20 people: any ideas?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 November 2002 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Islip village hall.

alix (alix), Friday, 8 November 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

OK it is DEFINITELY going ahead. I'll email the people who replied to the thread tomorrow night.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

yay!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm fairly certain I can't make it now, after all, annoyingly. Oh well, give Nelly a big fat 0 for me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never seen a wang called a "0" before.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

great! look forward to it.
