Dusty Springfield

C J (C J), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 07:57 (twenty-three years ago)

or Edith Piaf

C J (C J), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 07:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Debbie Harry, Nico or Rita Hayworth singing 'Put the blame on mame" with gloves et al. Any of those would require wearing a big wig, which is something I love about fancy dresses, don't know why!

arantxa, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 08:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I was thinking of asking this very question! My friends and I use it to express our moods, eg. "Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be.... Morrissey" = I feel moody and unloved; "Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be.... Lauren Laverne" = I feel deadpan and glittery and "Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be.... Esther Williams/Brian May/him from the Everley Brothers" = I feel really random and bizarre.

Madeleine (Madeleine), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

john cage.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 10:22 (twenty-three years ago)

meat loaf!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually have to choose a "pop" song to sing in 4 weeks time. it's just piano accompaniament (sp?) -- at the moment I am thinking of singing either Lamb's Gorecki or Dusty Springfield (Carole King)'s Going Back. I have to get the sheet music either way.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 10:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Go for Going Back - you want something people know that will suit you.

Me, well tonight Matthew I'll be Father Abrahams.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Eartha Kitt, grrrr!

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

GOing Back is for when I realise that the Lamb song really sounds a bit rub and repetitious with just a piano, but I think I could carry it off, hem hem, (in another octave, obv).

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew Ridgley!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Get the Byrds version if you want some male range pointers, Alan.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:23 (twenty-three years ago)

But I've already got the wig to do it Dusty style :-(

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

alexander o'neill.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

me Jonnie and Dave were once going to be Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black mambazo doing "homeless" as Dave sings the harmonies so well.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

robert smith.

angela (angela), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Joe Longthorne. He's the only person in the entire universe that is worse at singing than I am. Although apparently Bill Tarmey has had more that one album out.... oh, the choices.

lol p xx, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

James McNew in Dump incarnation (since I refuse to be Howard Stern, for fuck's sake).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Ideally Debbie Harry. Probably Tori Amos.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no idea, but Rod Stewart.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Karl Hyde

blueski, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Which brings us to Underworld's fascination with the show, and the alleged fact that Beaucoup Fish was at one point going to be called "Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be Underworld"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, I had fantasies about Julio turning up and saying "Tonight Matthew, I am going to be ... Derek Bailey!" Perhaps Marcello could do this?

I'd be Louis Prima, as middle-aged, out of shape and funny is my best bet.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Jim O'Rourke, alas.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't apologize, Tom, he was looking great at the Sonic Youth show.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Mike Skinner

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey, what next, Jeremy Beadle in the CPGB(M-L)?

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

flamin mongrel pinkoes!

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Beadle used to put on rock festivals in the early 70s with people like Beefheart on the bill. FACT etc.

Venga, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

And, er, I'd want to be Chris Lowe (if he'd spent the previous week in a pie shop alas).

Venga, Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Ideally Richard Harris. Probably Bonnie Raitt.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

The Legendary Stardust Cowboy

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

is it me, or does anyone else wish mathew would stop fondling the contestants?

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 02:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Stephen Merrit would be too easy. Keiji Haino would be too hard.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 03:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Haino would be easy for halloween tho! embarrassing tho', unless you would not be embarrassed looking like a jim morrison fan goth.

spectra, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 05:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I would want to be Tiny Tim as produced by Lee Perry instead of Richard Perry.

Or perhaps even Einar Orn!

Ashley Andel, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 06:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Odelay era Beck. I've already got the cowboy hat!

kate, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

''Haino would be easy for halloween tho! embarrassing tho', unless you would not be embarrassed looking like a jim morrison fan goth.''

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)
