I'm studying journalism, working part-time in a newsagents.

Not many of my friends are as big into music as I am, so I was drawn into ILM for reasoned musical debates, and have gradually just crossed into ILE as well.
Dreams, eh? To be wealthy (to a certain degree) and happy with a stimulating career, and no children.
No pets!

If the fault was yours for late books...PAY PAY PAY. Sorry, I've dealt with enough people trying to sneak their way out of legit fines.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 31 October 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

What do you DO?

I write. Sometimes I post to my blog. I do temp jobs. I watch professional wrestling on TV (don't laugh, Kurt Angle is the shit).

Where did you come from?

Me mum! Har har. No, if you mean where I live, it's St. Paul, Minnesota (1980s baseball superstar birthplace capital of the world - Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield, Jack Morris, take yerselves a bow). If you mean how I found ILx... I'm not sure. I made a really stupid post in December of 2000, then didn't visit or do anything else until this past spring.

Why are you here?

Well someone has to stick up for El-P.

What are your dreams?

That I am a world-famous rock journalist and I pay Jim DeRogatis $50 an hour to wax my collection of '70s Italian pointy-looking supercars.

Do you have pets?

No. I was thinking of getting a ferret, but those have unfortunate hippie associations. Maybe I could get a badger instead.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 31 October 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

How are you feeling, Donna? I was thinking about you today, and hope you're not too sad :(

Okay..... all you ever wanted to know about C J

Name : C J
Sex : Yes please. Oh no, wrong answer - I mean "I am female"
Age : 34
Lives : Oxfordshire, UK
Work : I run my own property management company.

Pets : One utterly bonkers dog called Chester - a German Wirehaired Pointer - and two cats. I rescued one cat from having been dumped in a plastic bag in a rubbish bin at motorway services. This cat is vicious and ungrateful, and hates me. Other cat is a little tiger, but also very affectionate. And a bit mad. And he loves Chester. Chester unimpressed.

Favourite drink : Anything really. Vodka, I suppose. Or Gin & Tonic. Pimms in summer.

Favourite dessert : My home made ice cream. Yum. I like profiteroles, too.

Favourite city in the world : Hong Kong

Favourite sport : Watching - rugby (this is probably due to Welsh blood in my veins and the fact my Dad was a former Welsh international player. Rugby is a religion in my family). Favourite sport to play - tennis.

Favourite holiday : Christmas

Can I stop now?!?!?!

C J (C J), Thursday, 31 October 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

CJ, if I ever move to the UK, can I work for you?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 31 October 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Favourite city in the world : Hong Kong

CJ = MOMUS!!

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Thursday, 31 October 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Course you can Dan! I'm great to work for. It's not so much "work" as nonstop comedy plus coffee all day. Plus posting here, of course. Doesn't leave much time for anything mundane like actually, er, working. Which is good.

CJ = Momus?????? Nooooooooooo!! (Though I do like Momus' voice)

C J (C J), Thursday, 31 October 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I like CJ as the ILX office manager. We'd do a better series than that one thing you people over there in the UK are talking about, I'm sure. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 October 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

yes cj, thanks im ok, just glad to have been involved in her life.
haha i also rescued a cat, the only kitten i could catch out of a litter had by a stray. she is mad, and was ungrateful too but came around slowly. she is old now too, almost 16. she hates everyone except me and her dad.
dan?

donna (donna), Thursday, 31 October 2002 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

* I am a real estate assistant but I like to think of my job as something I do on the side (40 hours a week on the side). What I really love to do is play music in my band. Other things I like to do include: reading, journaling, going to shows, and coming up with a zillion different creative projects to entertain myself with.

* I am from Virginia in good ol' US of A.

* Why am I here? I guess you're not asking about why I exist... I'm on ILE because I get bored at work and would much rather be making conversation with polite strangers (that all seem very bright & interesting I should add).

* My dream is to keep doing what I'm already doing. I hope I don't sound too annoying, but I really like my life as is... Ok, so I could handle working a little less...

* I have 2 cats. Well, I really only have 1 - Pepper - but I live with my bf and he has a kitty too - Lucy.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 October 2002 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

where did you come from?

London

why are you here?

I think I googled upon a list of albums which then led me to Tape Exchange which led me to ILM which led me here.

what are your dreams?

I used to be quite good at painting, when I get a place with a bit more space I'd like to do that again. I have this idea of applying a Mexican Day of the Dead theme to the London rush-hour.

I love making music, I'd love to have the time to do more of that. One thing I'm particularly interested in doing is looking at different scales. The standard twelve-note scale is based on simple ratios, I'm intrigued to know what would happen if you had a fifteen note scale, for example.

I'd love to know more about philosophy and anthropology. I'm reading some Lévi-Strauss stuff on myths at the moment and it's fascinating.

I have a miserable home life at the moment - my next door neighbour snores so loudly that I have trouble sleeping. I dream of moving.

To get through the next couple of months and then live a quiet, normal, boring, life (you know 2.4 kids, house with white picket fence etc etc)
I have this idea that my life to date might make an interesting book, purely because of the multitude of weird/freaky/bad things that have happened to me in my short little life, but maybe that's just totally naive and it's only interesting to me, so I may attempt it one day or I may not.

do you have pets?

I am on a mission to convince my fiancé that a bunny wabbit is a good house pet, but his stance so far is "the bunny arrives and I leave", so at the moment I'm petless

I would like to see free food given to every inhabitant of the world, initially for a year to see what effect it had.

My nomadic lifestyle and the quarantine rules would mean that any pets I had were permanently two countries behind me, meowing pitifully.

Hey, I have the famous Proust Questionnaire on my iBook, I'm going to start a new thread for the really adult and ambitiously self-absorbed amongst us to answer that!

Miss Laura, Monday, 4 November 2002 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

only problem is that we don't have pint glasses in mallorca, but size shouldn't be a problem. and there's the best tapas bars on the same neighbourhood! (ned to thread?).

er, martin, if you don't know whether your new girlfriend is fond of you, how can she be your, uh, girlfriend?

Denise Lambert, Monday, 4 November 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

DUD! My parents just sold their house in Majorca and bought one on the mainland, I could've offered accomodation. Def up for a med FAP though!

Plinky (Plinky), Monday, 4 November 2002 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Man, don't tempt me even more! With Tom's announcement of the party in November, I am seriously considering visiting there and then swinging down to Spain and maybe Italy for at least a week, maybe more.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey joan, i should be in malaga in a month or so, maybe i could swing by and we could set up a medit. FAP

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 08:36 (twenty-three years ago)

ok, know they're not right next to each other but much closer than addis to mallorca

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 08:39 (twenty-three years ago)

At the moment I am a temp who spends her day typing. From Monday I will be organising an international conference on early childhood development. I come from Woking, but have also lived in Florence, Manchester, Bergamo, Paris and (currently) Glasgow. I am here because I am bored at work and because this is where a lot of my friends are. Last night I dreamt I was addicted to heroin. I dreamt I was shooting up, then later I went cold turkey. Then I woke up desperate for the loo and lying on my back (perfect bad dream conditions for me). I have no pets.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 09:58 (twenty-three years ago)

definitely, malaga is closer than addis :-)
any ideas for a med FAP, let me know and i'll provide the free drinks.
each one will pay his/her own tapas, though.

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm up. :-) I like planning FAPs a year in advance!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 15:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Joan I'm so sorry but I can't hold this off any longer: I keep reading yr email address as:

primero spasitos

AND I KNOW it is primeros pasitos but I have been finding this HILARIOUS for AGES and I can't hold it in and aaarrghhh primero spasitos hahahahah I'm sorry!

*dies*

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't get it, but i'm glad it makes you laugh - it was intended as a joke from the beginning, only not that one :-)
we have received letters in the mail at least three time, addressed to primeros parasitos
which i've always found really hilarious. we were thinking about changing the name, in fact.

ned, i don't know if i'll still have a bar in one year, but let's make some plans.

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I come from Woking, but have also lived in Florence, Manchester, Bergamo, Paris and (currently) Glasgow

you missed out London, Madchen.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I was a bit worried it wouldn't come across in translation :) It's a very immature and slightly un-pc joke...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm up for immaturity!
and anti-pc, of course.

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

what do you DO? I touch computers, sadly
where did you come from? I was hoping that I sprang from some novelist's pages (like in Queneau's Flight of Icarus)-- but apparently out of my mother. Icky.
why are you here? Because I love everything.
what are your dreams? To become a recording artist of small age and advanced renown. No, seriously, I'd love to own a business of some sort in Tokyo.
do you have pets? I have a cat that came along with a wife.
