I hope they get more paying punters than they did in Leeds a couple of weeks ago. 9 of us plus the sound guy. Though they say on their site the tour was "a roaring success", so maybe it was just the usual club-addled Leeds thing of not understanding the concept of live music.

chris j (chris j), Sunday, 8 December 2002 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

where they play in leeds?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 9 December 2002 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nov 18th, Joseph's Well. Toilet venue to the gentry.

I saw a Lollies review in MOJO and felt semi-famous for posting on the same board as Kate. I'm like one of those people that's gonna get famous just cause I hob-knob with celebs.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 9 December 2002 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

we were in Mojo? when? dammit, second time today we've caught our press agent napping on the job. apparently, we're in vogue, as well. THAT impresses me. fuck the nme if they won't touch us. WE'RE IN VOGUE, MWAH HAH HAH, sweetie darling! if we're going to be a fashion band, we'll have to get better haircuts... does anyone know what stylist the strokes use?

erm, yeah. anyway. i've just checked our website, and yeah, we're carting indie-pop to newcastle. indeed. (bad when you have to check the website to find out yer own social life) oh, and sheffield on the 19th, we'll expect some ILE massive at that, ho ho ho.

leeds was interesting... nine men and a dog and all. i did like the venue, and they had a cute bartender. the rest of the tour rocked though. except for birmingham. went to birmingham and understood why duran duran wanted to get the hell out...

Haha I can beat yr low attendance rekkid Ms St Claire, when we played in Sheffield (Hallamshire Arms, which I believe no longer puts on gigs) we played to ONE person! I'll come to the ncle gig, but might be all nervous & shy, like.

Pashmina, Monday, 9 December 2002 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

don't be shy. come and say hello! harrass me while i clear up me pedals!

kate, Monday, 9 December 2002 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 9 December 2002 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

btw, what did you think of 99?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 9 December 2002 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

wow, i didn't see that. nice. i WISH that my skirt was vinyl, but unfortunately, it's just cotton. though sheesh... is it just me, or has every review of that show that i've read spent about twice as long talking about my OUTFIT than they spend talking about our music?

i liked ninetynine, they were very nice people. it's funny, cause our tour manager/soundguy apparently toured with them in the states, and i'm lead to believe that it didn't end happily... so who knows what went on there. i thought they were lovely. good scary, wild, music.

kate, Monday, 9 December 2002 23:57 (twenty-three years ago)

their drummer *is* as crazy as he seems

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i know. trust me, i know. i knew that from a ten minute conversation at canada house. lovely fellow, but mad as a snake. he did carry danny and trent all the way from canada house to oxford st, so he's in my good books.

kate, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Shall I bring TC Electronic Mk12 Phaser and Crowther Audio "Prunes and Custard" waveshaper pedal for you to play w/ kate? (NB this is a serious question)

Pashmina, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 00:14 (twenty-three years ago)

uuuuhhhhhh... ::drools:: i don't know how much time i'm going to have at soundcheck to play with pedals and things, but i wouldn't mind having a look at it!

kate, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

SO it's a ladyfest AND we get to see N's equipment

* bugger* i'll have to buy a round

Grace R., Tuesday, 10 December 2002 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I demand scans of said article. And i further request it be placed next to Julez arse!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 23:28 (twenty-three years ago)

it happened. twas wonderful to meet norman and sean, and to PLAY NORMAN'S PEDALS, WWWHHHEEEEEEEE!!! he so nearly didn't get the prunes and custard pedal BACK at the end of the night.

downside: too many pedals = mucho technical problems = poor musicianship quality of set. ::embarrassment of looking like crap in front of friends:: plus cuntish bar manager who threatned to turn off the power, cutting our set short of the really psychedelic songs. poo.

upsides: grrrrrreat support bands, yay! ladyfest types i could actually talk to without wanting to punch! dedicating songs to the all the ilm'ers in the audience! CUSTARD AND PRUNES!!!

newcastle is one giant shopping mall cunningly disguised as a town centre. it's very strange. but they have a yummy tapas bar and a record shop with an amazing collection of 60s vinyl type stuff. yay!

wow, it's far north, though. i thought i was gonna get an altitude headache.

kate, Tuesday, 24 December 2002 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate is being way, waaay too modest. The Lollies rocked pretty hard I thought, & she is a very good guitarist (EG she took weird
Crowther Audio hyper fuzz wall of noise type b0x she'd never used before & incorporated it into the set at the EXACT RIGHT TIMES!) She was very nice & gracious & all that, which was v good, b/c I had never met anyone from online-ness in real life before & I was v.shy, in fact SHIT SCARED!@# Sean is a super fellow also!@# If you do not like the Lollies then I aint got nothing to say to you, h4t4!@#!@#!@##!@#!@#@ (BTW the other 2 bands - "The Four Marys" and "We Start Fires" were really good as well. What a good night....

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 24 December 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
gentle readers, I have eventually sobered up - great to meet Norman and Kate - how shy was I - 'er, you must be...'. Both charming. I really enjoyed the gig and slurred my appreciation to innocent bystanders. Remembered saying to Christianne of The Four Marys: 'I'm looking for a couple of people I've typed to on the internet' - dodgy or what. God knows what the barmaid gave Norman when I went to the bar. We Start Fires were much better than I expected after seeing their previous incarnation. Respect to the Lollies for wrestling with the sound.

btw..'Taste' is F**kn great - especially 'Everybody's Trash..' and was a perfect birthday prezzie for our little riot grrl. Get a copy!
