Seeing as the venue for last year's celebrations has been reduced to smoldering ashes

I thing a massive rebuilding party a la the Barn Building in Seven Brides For Seven Brothers which would not only be constructive but plenty of fun too.

Get you hard hat on and start sawing.

I wondered what the smoke I saw on Saturday night was and why the bridges were blocked off on Sunday. Only found out this morning...amazing how ignorant you can be of something on your own doorstep.

Buck up, lad! When the sadhu has burned the muffins and the monsoon has drowned the peonies, always dress for dinner, because tradition will always see you through a tight place and our fathers may have been drunk and barmy, but they knew how to throw the caber so it landed on the right foot, if you catch my drift.

This hogmany, you must make a pudding and bury a farthing in it, then whoever finds the farthing is permitted to hang their favorite Scots poet or doomed patriot from the nearest rowan tree. Further, you must wear your kilt and sporran, smoke a long-handled pipe and give all the wee ones a suck on the stem until they puke in the garden lane.

Afterward, gather with all your friends and relatives in the Great Hall, light the yule log, toast the king across the water, sing The Wee Bairnie's A' Gone Cock-A-Whoop and all the other old favorites. Then find a large dog for warmth, embrace it firmly and pass out.

That's what I do come hogmany and it never fails to flood my bronchial tubes and bring a tear to my eye. Good luck!

It's the Scottish term for New Year - it's a big celebration there.

Yeah, better than Christmas - way more booze.
