HILARIOUS.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 9 December 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron McGruder, hero.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 December 2002 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Boondocks = Classic

H (Heruy), Monday, 9 December 2002 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

but do black people like you?

Queen G (Queeng), Monday, 9 December 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

ditto to Ned, I just hope McGruder doesn't burnout.

James Blount (James Blount), Monday, 9 December 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

best US strip at the moment.

Ed (dali), Monday, 9 December 2002 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

The Daily News has stopped carrying Boondocks with no ceremony or explanation but they still carry One Big Happy and CURTIS, WHAT GIVES!!!!!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 9 December 2002 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Has Curtis's dad stopped smoking yet?

Also has it ceased to be 1984 in there?

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 9 December 2002 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Were there no jokes in 1984 or something?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 9 December 2002 23:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Was 1984 The Year of the Obvious Left-Wing Beef?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 01:09 (twenty-three years ago)

is this really the best comic in the US?

ron (ron), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

David what does Curtis have to do with winged cows?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 03:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I refuse to read another daily comic after having Bloom County cruelly taken away from me. Boondocks seems funny enough though.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry. Doonesbury is way better. I've read a few good Boondocks but I get tired of simplistically shouting his political message through Huey and following it with a quick snappy line from somebody else. It's like a bumpersticker with a smirk sometimes.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Remember the few days or so last summer when Macgruder was just drawing huge pictures of Ja Rule and saying, you know, what the world needs right now is a lot more Ja Rule and we're going to give it to you !

I *still* laugh every time I think about that.

daria g, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

He's at his best (and provokes the most controversy, in Atlanta anyway) when he takes on BET

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 04:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I get tired of simplistically shouting his political message through Huey

But I think that's part of the joke -- namely that Huey isn't automatically McGruder's voice per se, that he's just as apt to completely and thoroughly go over the top in grand Conspiracy Theory style as to deliver a more cogent criticism. It's very reminiscent of Berke Breathed, as McGruder would easily be the first to admit.

I almost felt that if anybody was McGruder's voice in the strip, it would be Caesar -- aware but easygoing and urging Huey not to forget to stop and smell the roses. He's the real heart of the strip.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 04:41 (twenty-three years ago)

What IS Curtis, anyway?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 05:50 (twenty-three years ago)

It's comic strip - (Boondocks - Bloom County)/Family Circus

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 05:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, even better considering the Billboard awards.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 06:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Doonesbury is loosing its edge, there are occasional good moments. The boondocks also seems to have a shorter lead time

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 09:26 (twenty-three years ago)

This seems about as good as Bloom County, i.e. not.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, wait! Curtis is the strip that reminds me of Gasoline Alley! Never mind.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I almost felt that if anybody was McGruder's voice in the strip, it would be Caesar

(I kept forgetting to ask...) Wasn't Caesar a relatively late addition to the cast, though?

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 19 December 2002 05:06 (twenty-three years ago)

He apparently was already a regular of some sort in the pre-syndication days and incarnations of the strip, but I admit I'm a bit slack on some of my history there...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 December 2002 08:11 (twenty-three years ago)

There was a regular crew of about six or seven kids in the pre-syndicated version of the strip, including Cesar. Aaron had plans to reintroduce all of the characters after going into syndication, but decided to stop after adding Cesar (don't know why).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 19 December 2002 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

four months pass...

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh lord. I read the word in the final version as "companion" initially.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

(Not version, panel. Jeez, brain seizeup there.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Definately the second best strip at the moment.

Second best I hear you say. IF..... by Steve Bell is just so good at the moment. Unfortunately its not online because I'd love to share the delicious surrealism of a penguin and a dolphin locked in the Camp X-Ray Maximum security Creche being forced to play on their culturally sensitive Bouncy Mosque.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 3 May 2003 06:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron McGruder = Personal hero after seeing him on Bill Maher's Real Time delivering the beat down to Maher and motormouth Michael Graham

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 3 May 2003 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't remember Thalia being the singer in the BBK. I thought it was a female midget.

Roman (Roman), Saturday, 3 May 2003 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

woops! Wrong thread!... supposed to go on the Fuck/Come thread....

Roman (Roman), Saturday, 3 May 2003 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Wonderfully weird to see here, though. ;-) So Chris, did he take them to task over anything in specific or just in general?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

The discussion topic was initially about racism in America, but spiralled out to encompass the entire Current Situation. McGruder is the only person I've silence both Maher and Arianna Huffington in one shot.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Indeed. I like a comic strip that make me laugh, and makes me sad, and makes me fear for the fate of humanity.
