Which was the most kickarse fighting religious order?

The Templars obv. cos they had the SEKRIT of the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail and kicked Cathar butt. One became known later for attending to the sick, whilst the other became The Saint. Easy fite.

Weren't the Teutonic Knights well 'ard too?

let's not forget that the Knights Hospitaller had a huge navy and spent a lot of the later middle ages kicking arse in the mediterranaean.

The Knights Hospitalier of St John hung out on Malta and so probably had wicked cool tanning opportunities. Also a better fancy cross insignia. Templars suck!

I would have just looked this up yesterday if my internet access had been less sporadic.

Let's talk about the Templars. They invented the travellers cheque, you know. In fact, they may have invented modern banking as we know it. They brought down governments! And then the government brought down them!

The actual Inquisition never actually got its own hands dirty with the torture of their suspected Witches and Heretics. They brought in psychopaths to do the nasty unpleasant business of torture and execution for them.

Well, it provided kind of an early precursor of the current situation in Iraq where the armed forces can say "it wasn't us that ordered the torture and murder of those prisoners, it was External Civilian Contractors".

The Hospitaller co-cathedral in Valetta on Malta is amazing as are their Auberges there. The Nights of St. John, have got it going on (just like Stacy's mom). Still, the Templars seem to have more staying power in the public consciousness for no particular reason.
