and we have killed him.

rener (rener), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 10:42 (twenty-three years ago)

That story is very funny; what a hapless character the reverend is.

'I did not realise how young some of them were and I am sitting here now wondering how I managed not to realise'.

Surely he would have been on perfectly legit. grounds if he had said 'there is no santa, only God, you pagan fucks'. This would have been much cooler.

alext (alext), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 11:15 (twenty-three years ago)

The Metro version of this story has added sleb value and informs us that Ulrika Jonsson's kid, Cameron, 8, was in the congregation. Apparently he still believes in Santa (well he did until Reverend Meanie shattered his illusions). I am sure I twigged well before the age of 8. What is wrong with kids today?

Emma, Wednesday, 11 December 2002 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

My little cousin was basically told at birth that Santa doesn't exist and that he's a pagan idol. I always felt sorry for her.

Of course, when I found out Santa didn't exist, I got terribly upset and exclaimed to my mom, "Next you're gonna say reigndeer can't fly!" And she nodded her head. Then I said, "Next you're gonna say Jesus is fake too!" And I got in lots of trouble for that for some reason...

The idea of reindeer bursting into flames has rekindled my holiday cheer!

They are both "animated" reindeer.

The doe nods its head up and down. The buck swings its head from side to side in majestic ecstasy.

kate, Wednesday, 11 December 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

is telling children there is this Santa Claus guy who is going to bring them presents really such a good idea?

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

DV thats something i ask myself all the time - is it really worth keeping this whole Santa thing up anyway? i dunno, i got SOME level of enjoyment and excitement out of it as a kid but i think i could have survived and been just as happy had i never caught on to the whole myth...and i certainly didnt burst into tears when i found it was all just make-believe - it just didnt seem to matter, Christmas always feels 'make believe' anyway.

i did think if i had kids what if i told them categorically that Santa wasnt real when they were very young, what would happen? i figure they would be in school and i would then get complaints from other parents cos my kids made their kids cry or fight by telling them Santa didnt exist...oops. i think if i ever get to that stage i wont encourage the big Xmas myth much anyway but if they ever ask 'is Santa real' i'll just give it the old 'he's as real as Jesus son!' and that leaves it a bit more open to intepretation

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm all for it. i mean, what would you rather have?

-kids who believed in santa clause

or

-kids who believed that priests told the truth?

kate, Wednesday, 11 December 2002 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

or the third option - neither. but i know we cant really live without fantasy

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 11 December 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

eight years pass...

I image that santa's obesity is not unhealthy in some magic way

During quiet and contemplative moments, I often wonder whether Santa has an omphalos.

Aimless, Thursday, 9 June 2011 18:05 (fifteen years ago)
