I was just sent a text document from an Apple. I am working on a PC. How do I open this doc. without all of the annoying blocks where spaces and new paragraphs are supposed to go? Maybe if I open in notepad...?

Ok that didn't work...

What program did you create the text document in?

Get them to resend in Rich Text Format.

It's a doc I originally wrote in Microsoft Word on a PC. I sent it to this dude, who managed to open it on his Apple. I'm not sure what program he uses, but I think it's the standard Apple word processing program. He sent it back to me, and I'm trying to open it in Word again.

If I can avoid trying to get this guy to do anything, that would be great, since it takes him a long time to get back to me. And I don't think he knows about computers. When I open it up, I can see the text, there's just a bunch of crap mixed in. So I'd probably rather retype it myself than try and get this guy to resend it.

He needs to save it as either text (which will kill the formatting) or Rich Text Format (which should keep the formatting). Or, if he's using Word on a Mac he can save it as a Windows Word file. If he's using Appleworks he should be able to as well.

(Just saw yr post... I dunno Nick. Are you double-clicking the doc or are you going to File... Open... within Word? That does make a difference (the latter is preferable))

Nevermind. I called loser and he's going to resend it in body of email. Crisis averted.
