Annoying GAP clothing ads

In a better world, they would be directed by Guy Ritchie or Quentin Tarantino, with a techno soundtrack and strobe lights.A sort of 'Blade' meets 'Man at C&A' scenario. And Wesley Snipes in a full-length black leather trenchcoat and wrap-around shades, with a fetching hat and matching scarf combo.Would soon wipe the smile off those cheesy model's faces.

*GAP model:"Ooh!Look at me in my lovely sweater...AAAARRGH!VAMPIRES!"

Eugene Speed (Eugene Speed), Monday, 30 December 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah. That one where impossible scrubbed youngsters of different races sing a Mariah-ed up song. I want to punch each and every one of them till they will never model again.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

One of them is one of Quincy Jones' daughters.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

(The preceding was not offered in an attempt to change Mark's mind, BTW.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

the amusing thing is in the scarf ads--with all sorts of people looking all cute and dancing...there's all sorts of midriff showing. how could those women be warm? they're advertising winter clothing, after all.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Those multi-colored scarves are the absolute pits, IMHO.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

One of them was a high school seductress on _Boston Public_. She boffed Joey Slotnick, got him fired, and then BECAME a teacher! (I think.)

I love their version of "Love Train", esp. the "let it riiiiiide" part. And I'm all for Dr. Who scarves blessing the lithe & boney shoulders of America's youth.

Off topic: Do guys ever look good singing? The ones in this promo sure don't.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 01:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Rashida Jones (the school secretary and aforementioned daughter of Quincy)?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 02:11 (twenty-three years ago)

My fiances mum bought me a GAP stripey scarf and matching gloves for xmas, I have to wear them now, HELP!

smee (smee), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, they are trendy now...at least you can't be singled out in a crowd and larfed at because loads of people will be wearing them.

That stripey stuff just reminded me of the Levellers for some strange reason.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Darn it, Dan, I think you're right.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I have a stripey scarf. And a hat, and gloves. They're not from the Gap though. What am I, a fashion whore?

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not saying it's bad or fashion-whoreish, it just seems...Levelly.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I know, I know... I resisted. I swear. But then there was a sale, and the scarf looked so cozy and cheerful (it's like tropical lifesaver colours), so I relented.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

i think she's the secretary on boston public.

that commercial should die for placing annoying song in my head for months on end.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 03:40 (twenty-three years ago)

The song caused me intense pain...it made me want to put on something dark and evil to blot out all the cheery hippy vibes.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This last post makes me sound more goth than I really am.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:01 (twenty-three years ago)

That's never a bad thing.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:04 (twenty-three years ago)

one could definitely be forced to turn goth by that commercial.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:05 (twenty-three years ago)

At this rate I will be Robert Smith by the end of the week.

stevo (stevo), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Gah. You were all creaming yourselves about stripey scarves a year ago. I bet you only like bands when they're small and shit too.

That's a ;) on the Raggettometer.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd love to be in that commercial "People all over the world, join hands and form a love train...!" Except when they panned to me I would be doing my best running man.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I think they should put the Hitler thing in magazines (yeah I know it's not theirs). I wonder if it would improve sales by making people laugh. Or if they'd just get sued or something.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Sort of brings us back to my first message, just substitute Hitler for Snipes, the techno would be German, and the vampires are all Nazi's....not much difference there, then.

Eugene Speed (Eugene Speed), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I bought a stripey scarf two years ago, and I still love it.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Everybody in stripey leather-and-corduroy scarf-vests!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

taking out the garbage in Burberry plaid trash bags!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

All of the people and voices in the Love Train one are lovely. It's a shame that all the clothes they are wearing are rub.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I like how the sistah dances -- the white girls are dreadful.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 2 January 2003 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

have you seen the white guys? best dancing ever.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 2 January 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I would be doing my best running man.
ha ha ha ha HA!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

my stripey scarf would be blowing in the breeze.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

No! Stop! Too much!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

i can picture myself doing this commercial and I'm laughing at myself. Right when they cut to the guy with the beard I would be next.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a blonde feller in a blue jumper in the middle of this advert, who doesn't sing, but he does this weird sort of dance thing... why?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, yeah. that guy. his moves are sweet.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 2 January 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the blonde girl. That's Quincy Jones' daughter, right?

jm (jtm), Thursday, 2 January 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
I am transfixed and brainwashed by the new Gap ads with "Summer Breeze" and the girl twirling around on the beach. It's not even that I think she's that beautiful, but for some reason I can't not watch it when it's on.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 16 May 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's "Summer Breeze"!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 16 May 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I know it's "Summer Breeze"! You mean it's the song that's so transfixing? I think it's the spinning. I'm not as transfixed by the one with the girl taking her shirts off.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 16 May 2004 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I figure it's probably the combo of the gently hypnotizing spin and the gently hypnotizing song.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 16 May 2004 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

it makes me want to spin around myself. but not in skirts.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 16 May 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

skorts then.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 16 May 2004 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Is she a celebrity? The best part of Gap ads is identifying the young B-list celebrities they use.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 16 May 2004 02:20 (twenty-two years ago)

skorts then is huge in her native finland

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 16 May 2004 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

is John Mayer sposed to be hot, or just punchable?

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

The "Everybody in Gap" as should have ploughed a new way forward for all television advertising, Sadly it was not to be. Oh, the 90's, when you get revived we'll all be wearing Khakis.

I know, right?, Saturday, 29 September 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)
