If by "white people" the thread title is generally meant to indicate people of European descent, then classic, by all means.

The fact that Europeans have created empires over the past few centuries that have dominated much of the world means that they have acted quite badly in order to acquire and to keep those dominions, but this is not an exclusive trait of Europeans or others of European descent. A cursory acquaintance with the history of the world prior to European domination will show that everyone who seeks similar power has acted just as badly.

Europeans have also created some of the world's most amazing things and ideas, which can be put up against anything the rest of the world can offer.

What really, really sucks balls is the whole social construct of "white people" as it has been applied in the USA. That has been an ultra dud from the get-go.

This suddenly seems headsmackingly obvious to me, but it just occurred to me that Europeans probably only started to see themselves as racially similar when they came into regular contact with "dark" people. And even then, even into the 20th century there were a lot of ethnic distinctions made in Europe that you don't see in America among white people for the most part.

so tired of the whole white/suburban/middle-class people wanting to be "bad" thing in t.v. and movies. i feel like every time i turn on the t.v. amy poehler is yelling "suck it bitch!" to someone. is it MORE prevalent now in a post-Breaking Bad world or do i just notice it more because i watch so much t.v. the anarchists and freaks used to upset the normals a la Marx Brothers and then it just seemed to be drunk people who were the safety valve and said things and did things that you can't say or do (a la AbFab and all the drunk don't-give-a-fuck women who came after them) but now its just normal/boring people who want to get back at/freak out other normal people and be gangster or criminals or something.

i don't know if it means anything. it might just mean that you can be a more awful person on cable/streaming/netflix than you could be on network t.v. so everyone has to keep getting more and more awful. out-awful the other guy. all i know is these kinds of people rarely exist in the real world because if they did they would get beat up a lot. but people love the idea/fantasy a lot apparently. i thought The House was a funny movie. because the people in it were funny. but yeesh i'm just kinda sick of it. i love that The Good Place is like some sort of weird corrective to a show like The Mick. but there is only one Good Place. and there are a WHOLE lotta Micks.

it just seemed so depressing when i heard there would be an american re-make of Shameless. one is plenty.

i realize that the nerd becoming a badass goes back a long way. and "bad" equaling "urban" does too. just seems like an oversaturation of this line of thinking and i was wondering if there is some collective subconscious thing going on.

i could just blame the sopranos. and larry david.

also you never have to put the scene where someone smokes pot for the first time in a long time in your drama or comedy anymore. after the 400th time its not THAT cute anymore.

I hadn't considered this as a white thing per se, but have def noticed it and think of it as a kind of pathetic dying reaction to just how domesticated and hyper-managed people's lives have become, and I think the white aspect is probably just that the classes of people who feel this way are disproportionately white and tv is disproportionately white.
