Was Pingu really talking Finnish or was it just bollocks?

I appreciate that Americans/non-students might not know who Pingu is.

I had a Pingu pencil case once.

I bought a pingu pencil case in the czech republic for my girlfriend. it said 'please remembver pingu is your friends.' and 'swirl your pointed pines.' on [I haven't errored].

I don't think 'meep-meep' and 'honk-honk' are that widely used in day-to-day finland-talk.

I love Pingu. Curiously enough, I understand everything he and his friends say (despite the fact I don't know a single word of Finnish) so I am inclined to think it may be some made-up hybrid mish-mash of words which sound vaguely European in origin and which spark some sort of recognition in my tiny brane.

I heard a story once about a little girl (aged about four, I think) who loved Pingu. Her parents were divorced, and her Dad took her to the zoo on one of the days he was allowed to see her. They were momentarily separated in the crowds - Dad searching frantically to find little daughter - and eventually found her with soaking wet clothes which she refused to explain the reason for, and insisting they went straight home because she was tired now.

As they walked back to the car park, Dad heard a little meeping noise coming from the rucksack on tiny daughter's back. She had somehow managed to kidnap a baby penguin. (He made her take it back).

Finnish is a fascinating, unique language. Pingu doesn't sound Finnish to me.

I just asked Erika who sits next to me and I can reveal that Pingu is talking Gobbledegook.

Pingu uses no language so as to have universal appeal. It's truly a series of well-structured grunts.
