ethan, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it look s lame

Mike Hanle y, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just saw it, and basically enjoyed it. It was entertaining and sometimes funny -- more so in the middle than at the beginning (which was clunky) or end (which was overblown).

And I really don't see what GLAAD are up in arms about...did someone remove the word "satire" from their dictionary? Anyone who leaves that movie thinking that it encourages homophobia either wasn't paying attention, or is lacking certain cognitive abilities.

Phil, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh man...just found out this film doesn't come out over here til October/November! and Ghostworld is not released til November 16th!...:(

jel, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

GLAAD makes sure everything is bland and biege. Any outrageousness both by fags and about fags is slapped on the wrist.

anthony, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony, stop this outrageous behavior! *slap*

turner, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

harder baby harder.

anthony, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't make me take out my handcuffs, naughty boy.

Ally, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

last time i checked you had tits. I am sorry , i am so not into handcuffs and tits.

anthony, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dammit Anthony, you mock my dream? Well, okay, maybe not my dream per se.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know, but it's fun for me to say "Don't make me break out my handcuffs", I look to use that line at every opportunity, with men, women, gay, straight, whatever. I just like saying it. Besides, who said I wasn't just going to chain you up and then let someone else finish the job? I'm all about helping.

But you're right about GLAAD, or any super-political activist organization, really. They don't like anything at all, it's like they've had their senses of sarcasm and satire removed entirely.

Though Jay & Silent Bob the Movie probably still sucks, for entirely different reasons.

Ally, Sunday, 26 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ally, i think you'd like it, really. and hey, judd nelson is in it.

ethan, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

is Judd actually wearing his "breakfast club" outfit or was that just another one of those whacky interweb rumours? anyway, as J&SB are the only redeeming features of any of the KS ouvre, surely a *whole film* of them must be pretty kewl. Apparently the film aslo contains "more swearing than South Park", i'm sooo there ;)

carsmilesteve, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

THat man is NOT fit to play me. Oh, but JUDGE REIHNHOLD>>>!!!!!

Mike Hanle y, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

JUDD NELSON IS IN IT?!?!?! Oh, I guess I'm going to have to end the boycott and go see it. Judd Nelson is dreamy.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

jay and silent strike back was GRATE. the beginning was a bit rough, but then it took off and hit its peak in hollywood. judd nelson is in fact in it, but he was damn near unrecognizable. the best parts were with james van der beek as jay and jason biggs as silent bob and, surprisingly, matt damon and ben affleck on the set of good will hunting 2. the latter just continue to grow in my estimation -- self-deprecation does them good.

i can actually see why glaad singled this film out out of the kevin smith oeuvre. the problem isn't with smith but with the audience: half the crowd were high school kids enjoying their last days of vacation who've tired of seeing american pie 2 each weekend, while the other half were kevin smith fans who "got" the jokes.

fred solinger, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

GRATE = quite possibly the most annoying slang to permeate this message board.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

really? i'm sure there is more annoying slang out there. yes: i'm sure of it.

fred solinger, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Blame Molesworth for GRATE. Or Pete or MJ or somebody -- me, I like it.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, I'm not blaming anyone, and indeed if it was only one or two people it'd be cute or endearing, perhaps. I just dislike everyone around here ripping off everyone else's little quirky traits - can't you people come up with your own personalities? Plus, I despise bad spelling (sorry, Anthony, it's not personal), so to see a huge massive deciding to purposely misspell a word for no apparent reason other than they saw someone else do it all cheekily - total dud.

Get your own catchphrase, that's all I'm sayin'.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But i have my catchphrase- New Theban Horde !

anthony, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like your phrase.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alright then, no more GRATE, instead I shall say 'Nearer and nearer crept the ghastly THING'. Happy now?

DG, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, that's good.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I just came back from a movie and it was nearer and nearer crept the ghastly THING."

I dunno, seems unwieldy and counter-intuitive. Or am I being a dumb ass?

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dan = dumbass.

fred solinger, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well, you don't use it like that.

Ally, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i have never used, and will never use that 'lashings of ginger beer' spelling of the word great.

gareth, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I saw this movie, it ruined my day, fuck fuck fuck. Violently unfunny. (With the exception of "would you like your ass licked by a fat guy in a trenchcoat").

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 29 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am SO MAD you didn't wait til the weekend to see the movie. JUDD NELSON HELLO!

Ally, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You're so irrational.

Don't worry, we still haven't seen Summer Catch or Bubble Boy, and Jeepers Creepers comes out Friday. The weekend still has promise.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i will go to see summer catch

anthony, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I use both GRATE and great. They have different nuances.

Tom, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

GRATE does grate after a while. I used to use it quite a bit when it first hit the Belle & Sebastian list and then it became ikky.

Anyway, when it comes to having your own ideas you can talk, Miss Charo rip-off.

Nick, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh my goodness, ally's an even grate-er grammar nazi than me!

i look fwd to jay and silent bob with much eagerness, although KS's last couple of films have strayed somewhat from the excellence of Clerks and Mall Rats.

and i have a sherry hangover. lucky i didn't decide to break out the port hey ricky t??

katie, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Port = evil.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick's just mad at me cos I'm engaged to someone else.

Anyhow, Bubble Boy, that's happening, we have to go see that. I'm still mad about this Jay & Silent Bob & Judd Nelson shit though.

Ally, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There are no showings for 10 am . Whats a bored housewife to do.

anthony, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
