It has become harder to tell the novelty songs from the non-novelty songs. I'd be tempted to put Whigfield's "Saturday Night" in the category of novelty and Aqua's "Barbie Girl" in the category of non-novelty, but to say that both are novelty (or both are non-novelty) is a valid argument. So maybe the distinction began to blur in the early 90s. I don't think anyone would seriously contend that the Firm's "Star Trekking" or Starturn on 45 (Pints)'s "Pump up the Bitter" aren't novelty songs. Both of these date from 1987 as I recall.

it's a fun group watch! i screened it for our friend group's virtual bad-movie night and i think it went over pretty well. it's all very stupid and tedious, but a number of talented people inject some energy into their scenes, Chubby Checker and Little Richard have small parts, there's a car chase with the Weinermobile etc.
