and you can't wish for more wishes. so...what would you wish for?

fred solinger, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

8 hours of sleep a night for the rest of my life, a small gallery w. living space in Manhattan and maybe , no i cannot think of anything else.

anthony, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hmmmm...I guess I'd wish for happiness for my friends and family, no major problems, and a laptop computer.

jel, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A 007 licence

dave q, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My frivolous meglomaniac wishes would be:

a) Super intelligence
b) A castle
c) Lots and lots of cash

In other words I would become Dr.Doom.

jel, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

An orange for a head.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1) For my parents to win the Powerball. They have promised me $6m if they do. Plus, then they could pay for the wedding, which I'm a bit worried to tell them because they're going to have some bad expenses next year already.

2) A brownstone.

3) A magical closet that refills itself whenver I get tired of it.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1. an infinite amount of wishes
2. for my wishes to be granted according to the intent of the wish with no negative or unexpected side effects
3. that I would live until the time I specifically wish to die, in which case I would like to pass on peacefully in my sleep.

Genie's are tricky. You gotta watch 'em!

Nude Spock, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No genie can limit your wishes! Your his master!

Nude Spock, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(I have worked out how the tricky genii cd anyway shaft you Nude Spock but I am not going to tell how haha)

mark s, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, I would reword #2 to say my true intention with no unexpected side effects for according to me. In other words I would wish for no added consequences except what I wish for. So, if I wished for $1 million, I would have $1 million, period. It wouldn't be stolen or counterfeit, it would simply be $1 million. I would make each wish very obvious, intentional, etc. and would think very, very carefully before opening my mouf. Perhaps a fourth wish would be that I would have to ability to speak aloud any time I desired and my fifth wish would be that all wishes granted from this point onward, will only be granted when I verbally wish for them aloud of my own free will.

Nude Spock, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the wedding? whose wedding? something tells me i've missed a post or two.

fred solinger, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1) 12 pounds to go back to wherever they came from and STAY THERE
2) my mother to be much happier
3) some do-good-for-the- masses wish, I'm not sure what. Most things that I dislike about my life or want to change are under my control completely, so there's no point in wishes. So is number 1 but I'm too lazy.

Lyra, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1. I wish Laura was here. 2. I wish Laura was here. 3. I wish Laura was here.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'Bout says it all.

To Fred -- yes, wedding. Yes, you missed something.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude Fred, where were you?

*cyber-hugs to Marcello*

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

marcello, you can have my three wishes if you'd like.

re: wedding. did i miss "the wedding" thread? keep in mind: i only read threads that have vital interest to me (namely, threads i start myself) or have clever subjects. if someone would care to point me in the right direction...

fred solinger, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jeez, you are self-centered, only reading threads you start yourself. You miss out on vital info that way.

Ally, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

anyone see the x-files where that kid and mulder get wishes and the genies a biotch?

kevin enas, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would wish to have the best male figure in the world, infinite money and the power to shoot lightning from my fingertips. Just to zap Tim Burton for that Planet Of The Apes rubbish [GO SEE JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS INSTEAD!]

DG, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would wish that everyone knew it was funny

maryann, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

an electric guitar, a fourtrack, and vegan cheese. my life would be complete.

lady die, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1 To have the numerous silent phone calls stop RIGHT NOW.
2 Find my significant other

This is too silly. I wish Marcello my wishes. I have been thinking of you.

nathalie, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish Spencer an uncomplicated and fantastic life, with happiness, enough money to keep him and his family comfortably and the love of a good person.

I wish I could live happily ever after with that one person.

I wish my parents and siblings to always have everything they need.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

there was another a thread similar to this, on it i think i questioned whether wishing for anything that would affect other people would be a good idea. good excuse to just focus on yourself anyway...

i) ability to slow down time as wanted

ii) ability to teleport to new locations of my choosing including any period in history with whatever else i'm connected to by choice at the time

iii) perfect health until i'm ready to die

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

2. this includes a certain wonderful person

3. a happy life together with #2

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I could make a "who does #2 work for?" joke, but that's actually v. sweet.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Everlasting life. Yeah, I know, it's really a curse and all that. What the fuck ever.
2. Some startup cash. Maybe, like, 100 million.
3. To accept the things I cannot change, change the things I can, and know the difference.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

1. ability to read by osmosis.
2. free pass to pick up any recorded media free anywhere.
3. ability to sleep/eat only if I feel like it.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Good health. It doesn't even have to be perfect health, but good enough so I don't end up becoming ill as often as I do.
2. Enough inner calm/peace to prevent cockfarmers and the annoying little things from bothering me and bringing me down.
3. A long and happy life with Dan (not Perry of course -- I couldn't live with a Cure fanatic in the short term let alone the long term).

Larcole (Nicole), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

1. a world-class golf game, enough to get me on the PGA Tour, win a few majors and live the good life off the winnings and attendant endorsements.
2. the ability to shoot laser beams out of my eyes
3. a side-kick. I think everyone needs a good side-kick.

3. A missile silo home/lair

Everything else I'll figure out on my own.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 21 August 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

1. control of space-time (first put down 'ability to time-travel and teleport' and 'ability to control matter', but this covers both I think)(I think then I'd be able to get anything else that others here have asked for, ie more time, love, wealth, health, lazer-shooting eyes, etc.)
2. be given the answer to every question I ask (first I put down telepathy, but if I had this wish instead, I could just ask 'what's he/she/it thinking')
3. ability to enjoy anything and everything, no matter how many times I experience it

oops (Oops), Thursday, 21 August 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Enough money for my family and I not to worry

2. mental health

3. A time machine so he and I could have met three years ago

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 21 August 2003 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Only thing I can think of at the moment is getting my eyesight back the way it was.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I would wish for a enough cash to help us out & maybe get married & that the people that we're buying our house from would hurry up & find a house. Also that me & my family were all healthy all of the time.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

1. For Everyone to be happy and content

2. For America to sink without a trace into the ocean

3. For a giant spork.

Nellie (nellskies), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

1. city in space that looks fucking cool and has all the things I think about right before I go to sleep at night
2. this includes a certain wonderful person
3. a happy life together with #2

Wait, is #2 wishing for that person to be included in the city in space, or just wishing for the existance of that person? Or something so secret that you can't tell us what it is except that it involves a person you can't tell us about anyway?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

haha #2 is just me reiterating in case the fish didn't notice the most important thing abt #1 - otherwise why include the word 'certain'?

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, two of my original wishes came true!

now my wishes are: about $4000, another amplifier, an extra two months in the year.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

1. all the money
2. for nellie to sink, w/o a trace, into the cat pee
3. for minna to clean up the cat pee

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Then you have an extra wish, Millar. Pick me! Pick me! (er, for the city)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

OK #3 all my posse get to live in said city (#1) and rock out. It is discovered by science that all booze and all soda water can be easily synthesized from random galactic minerals so all the essentials are free. The chief industry is growing hot peppers, ginseng and gaurana in yr backyard. Big loaves of rye and pumpernickel rain out of the sky every Tuesday. Pigs and Cows reach adulthood and automatically die at which point their bodies miraculously slice into enough pieces to feed 100 people. Socialism works and everyone is unbelievably content. All my friends meet the person of their dreams. Our civ model conquers the universe and at the end we all get a big pixelated "A WINNER IS YOU" plastered across our line of sight for 15 seconds right before God starts over with another tank of schmucks.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

a winner is Millar

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I had no wishes on this thread? Huh.

1. Renewable resources perfected for all
2. Food distribution similarly perfected for all
3. Chris's first wish

(The pop-cult angel in the sky appears and tells me I have to do three selfish wishes instead and I can't wish for a million wishes, so FINE:)

1. ALL the Prince master tapes. (I'll then use these to trade with other people for all the other rarities and things one could want in the musical world ever.)
2. A house like Bongo's dream house in that one Life in Hell panel, though specifically customized for my own needs.
3. The mysterious never-dropping-below-$20,000-no-matter-how-much-I-withdraw-from-it checking account. Large enough for comfort, small enough not to be readily noticed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to live in Millar's world. And I want Ned's checking account.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think raining loaves of bread would be dangerous.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Rye bread will certainly kill you.

Larcole (Nicole), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe if it was the dough, it'd be kind of ok?

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

But if you had to die, wouldn't that be how you would want to go?

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Dough would be worse. One time at work, one of the bakers got angry and threw a ball of dough, and it went right through a wall.

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's just not have it rain food.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

but it would be like that alternate Simpson reality where it rained doughnuts.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just thinking it could result in massive, massive injuries to innocent people, that's all.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think anyone was injured in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

kirsten (kirsten), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you guys realize that in real life, it rains water? Water! What could be more perfect than that? Soda? Wine? Beer? No! It would be sticky and start to smell bad. Dough? Bread? That would hurt, you morons. Water tastes good. It doesn't smell like anything really, except wet. I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Enough money. However much "enough" is at any given time.

2. A way to push the coasts closer together (without sacrificing some of the cooler middle states).

3. For every song to be as good as the version of "Died For Love" on Doom and Gloom From the Tomb, Vol. 1.

BLACKOUT '03! (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Nick on this one. I like water. I toyed with the idea of suggesting vodka but realized that'd probably be awful for the skin.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, if it rained vodka, there would be no ice or snow.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa. That'd be my vision of the worst thing ever.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm glad I could be the Clarence to your George Bailey.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm ringing bells like MAD right now, how many wings have you sprouted???

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to revise my wishes down to just one.

1. Fulfill everyone else's wishes on this page.

Just cut me in on 5% of the cash. Also I wouldn't mind the occasional rain of food.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Every band to sound more like Dimmu Borgir.

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And i wish that my bottle of grape Juicy Juice hadnt fermented. Im thirsty.

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

1) To be a Black Belt in karate.
2) To have perfect 20/20 vision, without LASIK or anything like that.
3) To be a be a size 6 again and stay that way.

I definitely need more than just 3 wishes!

Jasmine U. (Jasmine U.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

2. For America to sink without a trace into the ocean

Hey, I live there!

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

3) A magical closet that refills itself whenver I get tired of it.

OMG this wish of mine came true. I shouldn't have asked for this.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

1.  Good health and happiness for myself and everyone whom I care about.
2.  Financial happiness (or at least stability and security and the chance to do more than just pine for things I want).
3.  For that Certain Special Someone, so I can hear sweet romantic things and feel someone's warm love.

*crosses fingers like crazy for these wishes to happen*

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 21 August 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish i could find the time or someone who could teach me some music theory to the point where i could listen to it on records and i could get to appreciate things more. I'd love to learn how to play piano someday.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio, you appreciate what's-going-on-in-the-music WAY more than a great many people I know who studied music theory at university.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks nick but i somehow feel there is a lot to learn.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 22 August 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Well that's a very good attitude, and there certainly is always a lot to learn...shit, not just about music but about everything.

Oh I haven't done the 3 wishes yet! Hm, I'm gonna fire 'em off willy-nilly like a good little typical stupido Homer Simpson American gringo:

1. the ability to manifest cheeseburgers and/or falafel pitas in my hand on command
2. a baggie that's never not got scooby snacks in it
3. to quit my job & receive massive paychecks from God

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently God runs the Publisher's Clearing House.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

1. the ability to manifest cheeseburgers and/or falafel pitas in my hand on command

You damned motherfucker, that wish is beyond priceless. Why did I not think of it? I WANT IT. (The cheeseburgers have to be from In-n-Out in my case.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 August 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

nine months pass...
1. Health
2. Independence
3. Love, love, love (preferably accompanied by kinky, epic sex on a regular basis)

I was going to be specific but this pretty much covers what I would ask for. And I don't think it's too unrealistic.
My bonus would be spiritual enlightenment, but I think that is better attained with one's own effort, like most things.
