I'm in desperate need of some advice here. I've been sort-of seeing a girl three years older than me (25/28). So far things have been very casual, tho last night they escalated a bit. Nothing serious happened, but I was picking up on signals that I would normally interpret as "Hey, let's take it a step further!" My only hesitation comes from the age difference, and, frankly, she's a bit out of my league anyway. I've pursued one older woman (by 6 years) in the past and she enjoyed the attention for awhile before letting me know nothing was going to happen. So now I'm hesitant to make my feelings clear since it would probably mean ruining the rapport we've established, and even if I can't have a relationship I'd hate to lose a friendship.

So, has anyone out there been in this situation? Ladies, what's your take on dating younger men? Is there hope, or should I be content to have a stunningly gorgeous, artistic, intelligent, caring pal?

The age difference between 25 and 28 is a lot LESS than the age difference between 18 and 21. Don't sweat it.

I'm 22. My girlfriend is 26. I didn't even consider the possibility of doing anything at first, because I thought she was out of my league and would never consider the possibilty herself. Then she hinted that she was considering the possibility. We have been going out for 15 months.

i don't think your friend would care if she saw this thread cos she would know that you liked her. But she would probably bring up the title of it later in arguments once the thrill had worn off. Three years is nothing, nothing, nothing. She probably thinks that you won't like her cos she's too old or something. It's ridiculous cos if the genders were the other way round it would seem like an 'appropriate' age gap. But think of the frisson your very slightly unusual situation could create. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW HARD I AM TRYING TO AVOID WORKING ...

There's no danger of her finding this thread, and I think she'd get a kick out of being called Miss Robinson anyway. I does seem silly now to be worried about a three year age gap. There are other factors at work here: her last relationship w/ a man was w/ a guy 13 years her senior and lasted 5 years (she's had other relationships w/ women in the meantime). But anyway, thanks everyone for helping me straighten my head out a bit.

As some on this board will know, I seem to have a worrying attachment to the homme of 27 (vingt-sept) years (ans). This has been a constant in my life since I was 17. I wonder if it will stay constant as I continue to age and then men in my life will STILL be 27 even when I is 72.... this could be a BLESSING IN DISGUISE no?

Three years is an amazingly good age gap. Then again, I have only ever dated a boy younger than me once. He was younger than me by two weeks, and that's how long we lasted as well. YEAH!! As Daft Punk surely said, don't hesitate, don't wait too late. Then agane, as those of you foolish enough to listen to my karaoke warblings can gather, I is not very good with song wurds.
