I hate it, it's like Birds of a Feather if they got sent to prison. And the people all talk like they failed an audition for The Bill. And its part of 30 something pop culture which killed youth culture and is killing us all slowly.

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

God, Bad Girls is what Tuesday nights were made for and they are not the same without it. Every time I get the bus past Holloway Prison I imagine that they are living the dream. They are all my favourite characters. Shell and Dennie torturing Sylvia and her husband - fantastic stuff. When is it back?

Emma, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"And its part of 30 something pop culture which killed youth culture and is killing us all slowly."
A teenager laments. Heh. You will be 30something one day too Ronan and realise what bollocks you are talking. Birds of a |Feather is GRATE. Of course I never watch it of course.

mark s, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can't wait to get older, it sounds dead exciting, what with the prospect of realising all the bollox I've been talking

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am only 26 and not yet a thirty something. So there. Maybe I wuv Bad Girls because I am very mature.

Emma, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just think its really boring. Its funny because I just got back from lunch and my eh colleagues were talking about Bad Girls, then the Bill, then ER, then some mini series, if I had had something nice to eat I could have tolerated it, but it was vegetarian canneloni. It picked up though a bit when I got all the attention because my boss started asking me about Uni. It's great the way everyone follows the bosses conversation

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So Ronan. Where/when are you going to uni. Let us coach you on that difficult first day.

Pete, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aw even the people who hate me are so helpful here. Dublin City University, doing Journalism, if I start calling it Journo then shoot me. It starts the 24th of September, which is shit because it means I've to work in this job till then, oh the dizzying highs of the oil industry......well I don't have to stay on I suppose but I can't justify sitting around the house when I could be making money, I want to go to Prague again this winter sometime, so tips on the first day then Grandpa?

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yes yes but buffys on tonite. ye-ah!

gareth, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

make sure you have plenty of passport photos it seems like colleges eat them or something.

And have a badge printed saying what A-levels (or whatever you do in Ireland)you got on it to save about 500 people asking you.

cabbage, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do not be rude about a fellow first year one week into term in front of a man who writes the college gossip rag as when he gets his leg broken the following week by the biggest bloke on the rugby team and becomes a hero you will be loathed by your peers and have to hang around with Pete for the rest of your life.

Emma, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Come on you're just trying to scare me now, nobody seriously has to hang around with Pete for the rest of their life do they?

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

8 years so far, 3 of which have been sharing the same house. But they have flown by. And stop being rude about him or I will punch you.

Emma, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What a fine gossip magazine it was too - if I say so myself. I was excrutiably rude about people who are now my close friends in it. I think I was particularly nasty to Tom way back when...

Hey don't think this having Emma slung around my neck like the proverbial albatross has been anything but a curse for me either.

Journalism eh? Do they have to teach that these days. Pah! In our day it was something you just picked up, like syphillis. And Emma.

Pete, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You started it in fairness, what I said was in good spirits, no rudeness intended. No need for the punch then is what I'm trying to say. 8 years is a long time, you must have had to punch many people for each other over the years.

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I could be arrogant and say they don't have to teach me it. I don't think you pick up Journalism the same way as Syphilis exactly, unless you sleep with Jeremy Paxman or something.

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ha, I feel like me and Pete are doing virtual tag team bullying. For the record I have never hung around Pete's neck. And we have never fought people for each other (well I haven't, have you Pete?).

We're only teasing ya Ronan.

Emma, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know. I won't slit my wrists just yet...I haven't done any work all day. They know at this stage Thursday is a non starter for me, so noones asking me anything-

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You were indeed very rude about me Pete though looking back it may not have been entirely undeserved. And I did go out with Tanya after all. That said obviously I still bear a grudge.

I think watching Pete and Ronan is a lovely spectacle. It's like the grizzled old dog teaching the young pup his tricks. But one day the young must challenge the old and what then eh.

Tom, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete will just unveil his alternate personality of The Barnet Ape, and that will be that for Ronan.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We'll see............and when the revolution does come I'll remember Ned Ragget famous ILE contributor and Freaky Trigger writer said I'd lose.......

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom's line above abt the 'grizzled old dog' made me laugh out loud, which is nice 'cos the nastiness elsewhere on this board today has been a real downer...

Andrew L, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, you can talk about that Ned Ragget clown as much as you like, he's a jerk. Anyone with only one t in his last name can be killed. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So Ned when are you going back to Kilkenny, I was there earlier in the year to see Ryan Adams, Marah, and Paul Burch. The Kilkenny Arts Festival. It was great I must say

Ronan, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would very much love to properly visit Ireland sometime, especially now that I've got a growing passel of friends who either live there or are from there. Possibly next time I'm over, though at this point Italy and Spain are the two most likely destinations (though I will spend at least a little time in London for Trig Brother II or whatever).

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

make sure you have plenty of passport photos it seems like colleges eat them or something.

YES! Why oh why did I have to spend so many of my hard-earned pairs of pounds on the photo booth at Sainsbury's when all my id cards and student records feature a grotty black-and-white pixellated photocopy of the first one (which looked nought like me anyway and is unrecognisable now my hair's different)?

Um, yeah. Go to freshers' events and drink and talk to people even though it feels scary and horrible and not your scene at all so that two years later when your mates are having a "ha ha ha, wasn't freshers' week weird and scary?" conversation you can join in. Do not stress about being unable to remember people's names all at once.

Drunken capers might be fine, some people claim it's all part of the fun, but futile and slimy leching over anyone and everyone female is a bad idea (cf Least Popular Bloke In My Year At College, as despised by all my friends largely due to acting such a jerk in the first week, who later decided he fancied someone in the society dedicated to the favourite thing in my life which I'd been on the committee of for a year and attending religiously since my first term, and so despite knowing sod all about said favourite thing he started going every week and became president so it would look impressive on his CV and not only did I have to get annoyed at him every week but I also had a choice between not going to society events and having fun and trying to defend the stuff I was interested in against committee members like him who'd never heard of it and didn't think it would be popular enough to bother with or looking like I was deliberately choosing to go places with him and being seen by college friends walking places with him and talking to him and going to his room for meetings. Aargh!).

Sorry, you wanted to be helpfully patronised, not hear about my bitterness, didn't you? Oops.

Oh yeah, and try to do some work, 'cos realising halfway through your final year that you're going to fail, having a nervous breakdown, and being sent back home in the middle of nowhere, far away from your friends and your shared house in the centre of town and any semblance of social life and freedom, to live with your parents who are dead peeved at you being selfish idiot dropout child is pretty damn dud, take it from me. Doh!

lazy serf, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nine months pass...
well, that was a thread hijacking and a half. well its back, but no more shell dockley, this is a crime. however fenner is being sexually harassed by a homo. yay. i hope yvonne isn't dead.

di, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

seven months pass...
I've watched a couple of episodes after someone's recommendations (with the Blake's 7 style disclaimer that the fourth series was not much cop). Yvonne Atkins is one scary lady, and I quite liked the conceit of Kate O'Mara (facelift went somewhat awry)cast as a wheelchair-bound brothel madam.

I believe that Stephanie (Tenko, Colbys) Beacham is joining the cast in the new series. Might be a reason for watching.

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Sunday, 19 January 2003 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

come back bad girls.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought this was going to be another Mary and Felicity in London thread.

Paul Eater (eater), Sunday, 19 January 2003 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)
