Wow, after reading the coverage of the Australia vs Pakistan match on here: http://sport.guardian.co.uk/cricketworldcup2003/overbyover/story/0,12864,893294,00.html

I so wish I was watching it, it sounds amazing.

Who's going to win it then?

chris (chris), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Stralia, I reckon. Arrogant fux0rs to a man, but quite tasty on the wicket.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

They came back from 84-4 today to make 310, bloody impressive stuff.

Can't wait to see Waquars beamer that prompted Umpire Shepherd to all but send him off!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

The total is massive, Australia I reckon. Scott Styris for NZ yesterday was fantastic, pity no-one felt like batting.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

god i enjoyed watching andrew symonds bat. he's been such an underachiever at international level and his selection in the squad was contentious to say the least and he's finally played an innings everyone knew he was capable of. it's helped take some of the sting out of the shane warne news earlier today. waqar bowled two beamers at andrew symonds and i don't think i've ever seen an umpire so livid. pakistan are their own worst enemy. at 4-86, they should've bowled the aussies out for a low score but eased up at precisely the wrong time and ended up imploding like they invariably do. you know the story - bickering in the field, too many no balls and wides. he beamers are an interesting new touch though. my bet's pakistan barely make it past the 120-130 mark.

angelo (angelo), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm a kiwi - the pathetic support offered to scott styris yesterday was gutting.

we could win the whole tournament if we just played to our strengths and played consistently
for the whole month or whatever...sadly we are totally incapable of doing this. ah well. australia will win again

Ben, Tuesday, 11 February 2003 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Pakistan are getting battered.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but maybe Akram can save them Styris-style! And, maybe not! In fact no way, really, he'll probably go out for 12.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Nope not yet... he's batting beautifully. They're still going to lose, though.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 15:22 (twenty-three years ago)

blooming heck, a 54 run stand off 4.5 overs! I wish I was watching this even more now! Now that Latif has gone though, I'd say it was all over.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

There you go, Akram caught. It has been fun, though.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

an 82 run win, not what was predicted when the Aussies were in the shizzit earlier on, just goes to show how good they are I suppose *sigh*

chris (chris), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Something something, though. I say that way too often! Now I worry about NZ, they're missing some games so they have to win their next one or get knocked out, I've been told.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Sri Lanka could win, outside bet West Indies.

But probably Australia :(

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Canada just beat Bangladesh by 60 runs after being all out for 180. Maybe this world cup will throw up a few surprises.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

England vs Pakistan game has just got VERY interesting. Pakistan 24/3 after five overs in reply to Englands 246/8. Anderson got both Inzamum and Yousuf Youhanna out first ball.

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 22 February 2003 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish I was watching

Ed (dali), Saturday, 22 February 2003 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Pakistan now 59/6 in the 18th over. Anderson is on fire, but has only one over left. Pakistan surely up the crapper unless the rest of the England attack have a total nightmare.

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 22 February 2003 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

England win by 134 runs.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 22 February 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

yay! I'm very happy abt this. two weak teams but at least good easy starts, which at least gave the players some confidence ahead of today's match.

England have found some players recently in colligwood and anderson and they've thankfully not neglected Vaughan. Filntoff is back too.

Hopefully trescothick will regain his form.

Come on England!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 22 February 2003 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm excited about this india game. Its just started 7-0 2 overs. Both myself and the guy next to me have the ticker running.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 12:40 (twenty-three years ago)

india 24-0 after six

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I reckon england only have a fair to middling chance. They need early wickets or they're doomed.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

im watching my first cricket match ever. bangladesh vs. new zealand. i'm rooting for the bangladeshis. slowly starting to understand how this game works - not impressed though.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:05 (twenty-three years ago)

we have a good chance as India haven't set the world alight with their cricket but in their last match ganguly and tendulkar both scored hundreds.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

phil- keep watching. (NZ should win that one easily BTW).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd like to see a wicket before the 10th over, that would set england up well but things don't look good in that respect.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

The NZ/Bangladesh game isn't a good place to start.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:10 (twenty-three years ago)

71-1 in the tenth over, now I feel a little happier.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

and relieved too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

although india got 15 off the following over.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

ouch, they're really getting after us. If you haven't been reading the Guardian over by over coverage then you should, it's excellent.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, I'm following it on their webpage as I can't get off work unfortunately.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Guardian over by over is so much better than BBC. Thanks

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Tedulkan's gone after getting 50 from 50 balls, opeing balls. This is shaping into a good game.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

a third wicket and india have slowed down: 134-3.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Well done Freddy, my new hero.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

and irani isn't doing too badly (so far).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

um, he's just been hit for six. india are 175-4 with 10 overs to go.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Final score I hope for 225, I reckon more like 240 though.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

we need some quick wickets as they started scoring heavy again.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

250-9 50 overs. That last flurry of wickets should be good for morale. The total is not insurmountable. It'll be a good innings I hope.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

yes. four in one over.

a tough target but by no means impossible (the indian attack isn't the grebtest!). come on emgland!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

7-1. Its time to throw up our hands in dispair.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

No it's not! Have a little optimism!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

its only one. nine to go.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Trescothick was probably better out than in.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

this does indeed look like an exciting cricket match, which I once thought impossible. Pity it's at the expense of england though. 18 for 2 ouch....

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

still early doors, judge the innings at 30 overs.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I need to get home in about ten minutes, rather than the two hours it'll most likely take me :o(

chris (chris), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Hussain and Vaugn may be able to pull it back, but the guardian guy is not impressed.

(he does have a youngish picture of Thora Hurd up though)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

not going so good, oh well. It's only a one day match.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Go Black caps! Go!

88 for 7? Australia you say? Shane Bond? 6 for 23 off 10? fantastic stuff

chris (chris), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 10:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh it's just beautiful!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 10:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Why do I have to be working when these games are on. Australia pulled it back and are probably going to win now with NZ on 83-4. But what a game.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

90-5.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

102-6! This is some NUTTY stuff. Great, Australia continue to loom over this game turning it into an easier version of solitaire

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

If only NZ could make their tail wag like austrailia's

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

We put our tail up at the head. Hey let's leave nothing in reserve!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Y'know Australia're kinda scary

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

God I'd love to punch Brett Lee, though. Oh you CHAMPION, you got rid of a number nine batsman! Why don't you just cum all over the pitch next time? Still think the team overall are absolutely incredible, of course.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, that's that... what are those dogs for?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Holy FUCK! Daniel Vettori is SO CUTE.

http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2002/sep/23vet.jpg

bearded

http://www.webulagam.com/cricket/profile/images/newzealand/vettori.gif

Too bad they didn't make the semis.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 20 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Bearded!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 21 March 2003 03:40 (twenty-three years ago)

So is the World Cup over yet? Did Australia smoosh the other guys?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 21 March 2003 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

final's on sunday

Ed (dali), Friday, 21 March 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

And it should be ace.

Matt (Matt), Saturday, 22 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)
